Description
Historic grandeur overlooking the Golden Gate City This Nob Hill mainstay, dating back to 1907, blends contemporary and historic tastes. Decorative touches such as marble floors and Corinthian columns evoke turn-of-the-century grandeur, while modern conveniences such as high-speed Internet and a full-service fitness center and spa keep travelers grounded in the present. Three well-regarded restaurants offer options for every meal, and the city's oldest Tiki bar provides a break from the formality of the hotel. HighlightsThe hilltop location delivers panoramic and breathtaking views of San Francisco BayHop on any one of the city's cable cars right out frontUnion Square shopping is only a four-block walk from the hotel Rooms Accommodations -- 591 rooms, 62 of them suites -- span two buildings: the original, circa-1907 structure and a tower built in the 1960s. Rooms vary in size (325-425 square feet; up to 6,000 for suites), but all come with flat-screen televisions, Frette luxury linens, MP3 docking stations and Miller Harris toiletries. Many also offer stunning views of San Francisco Bay, while Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet access are available in all (fees apply). Features The hotel has received numerous awards, including the AAA Four Diamond Award and ExxonMobil Four Star Award. Marble floors and Corinthian columns trimmed in gold accentuate the ornate Main Lobby. This area, spruced up in 1999, transports guests back to 1907, when the hotel opened. It may also transport TV fans back to the 1980s: Aaron Spelling's "Hotel" series was shot here. The United Nations Charter was drafted in the hotel, and even the concierge service is historic. Dating back to 1973, it's the first formal concierge desk in the U.S. All guests have access (fees apply) to the on-site Club One at Nob Hill Health Club, a full-service facility with spa and fitness center. Grab a Mai-Tai at the Tonga Room and Hurricane Bar, a kitschy-but-lovable Tiki lounge on the site of an old (circa-1920s) indoor pool. Holiday visit...

East Bay Getaway
- Dec 17, 2012
The Fairmont is a great place to base a visit to San Francisco at any time of year. Lots of hustle and bustle particularly during Christmas/Holiday season. Surprisingly, you have to request coffee set up in your room in advance. When we ordered a pot of coffee, it did not arrive for over an hour and only after we called about the order to Room Service. They did comp us for the coffee, however. But it remains a beautiful hotel albeit a pricey option.

I checked into the Four Seasons to celebrate the end of a tough semester of studying at UC Berkeley. I didn't travel very far, just across the Bay, but the Four Seasons provided a delicious escape. Even though I arrived in somewhat scruffy clothes, with just my 'Go Bears' duffle for luggage, I was made to feel completely welcome and 'at home'. I didn't want to leave my room at all, just to relax, so I ordered a decious dinner from Room Service, which I ate while I enjoyed my room's fabulous view over Market St to Chinatown and over the rooftops around Union Square all the way up to Nob Hill. My bathroom was perfect, lots of room and everything I needed for a relaxing soak in the bath. Best of all was the bed, huge and so incredibly comfortable, heaped with luxuriously soft bed linens and pillows. I had a wonderful, perfect stay at the Four Seasons. I'll be back!

Family Vacation

Paddle pro
- Aug 12, 2012
Our family of 4 stayed 5 nights at this beautiful hotel for our annual summer vacation. We loved our 2 bedroom accommodations. Everything was so 1st class and the beds were extra comfortable. After walking all day, it was a joy to sink into the cozy sheets and pillows. Although we had a city view, we were steps away from the Mustard lounge on the 2nd floor. What a great place to have a drink and watch the world go by below at Ghiradelli Square. The view from the Mustard lounge was spectacular!
We booked the complimentary bicycles and had a great adventure riding to the Golden Gate bridge. The hotel should probably inform guests that the ride on the bridge is chaotic and children under the age of 16 may have problems navigating through the numerous walkers and other bikers.
The breakfast at the Fairmont was perfect for our family and we enjoyed it every morning outside on the terrace.
The staff was exceptional and were eager to offer help or suggestions to restaurants or fun places to go.
We enjoyed our stay so much that we are looking into the Fractional ownership offered by The Fairmont Heritage. We will definitely stay here again!

The Fairmont Heritage Place was the perfect stay for our vacation. The suites were impeccable, with all of the amenities for our stay away from home. The beds were heavenly! The linen was crisp, fluffy and comfortable. The staff turned down our beds nightly and left a chocolate surprise on our pillows. Ghirardhelli Square was a perfect location to stay in San Francisco. Will definitely stay here again next time.

Great Night at the Orchard Garden Hotel
-
Rita 'n Roger
- Dec 24, 2012
We were greeted warmly at the desk when we arrived hours before the official check-in time at this newish hotel located in the heart of downtown San Francisco. We were immediately given a room that was ready and everything was explained quickly and thoroughly regarding our room, checkout time, room key which turned on the electricity only when it was placed into a slot just inside the room. We were impressed that it was a "green" hotel and the staff made every effort to be energy efficient. The room itself was smallish which was fine with us because it was immaculate, and the bed was so comfortable that my husband and I slept 8 hours that night--rare for us even in our own home!
Justine and Bina at the front desk helped us with our directions, the best shopping in downtown San Francisco, and were very professional as well as friendly. We will definitely return to this lovely hotel.

We took BART to go to/from the airport and to the Orpheum Theater to see the Lion King. There's also a cable car stop right outside the hotel.
Since the OMNI is right in the heart of the Financial District, a lot of things in that area are closed on weekends since they cater to the Monday-Friday crowd, but you'll find lots of things open just a short walk away. It was nice to stay in a quieter, less touristy area actually.
The staff at the OMNI is the best you'll find, from the doorman to the front desk to the maids to room service. Upon arrival into our room, we had a hand-written note from the maid along with a note from the hotel staff welcoming us and telling us to not hesitate to let them know if we needed anything at all. Anytime we would pass a maid in the hallway, she would say hello and ask us how our day was. The doormen asked us if they could point us in the direction of anything each time we left, and they welcomed us back each time we returned. We couldn't believe how friendly everyone was, and how each person seemed to be in such a good mood, enjoying what they do.
Our bed was very comfortable. We can't stop talking about the pillows! The room itself was spacious and everything was in perfect working order.
Be sure to join their rewards program (it's FREE) for complimentary in-room wireless and daily morning beverages and newspaper (weekdays only) delivery.

We stayed as a Starwood Preferred Guest and could not have had a nicer room or view. Overlooked Union Square with the beautiful Christmas Tree and Skating Rink. Fabulous views of the Bay and San Francisco including COIT Tower and the TransAmerica building. The staff is always a pleasure and always so helpful. The in hotel dining is always excellent; as is room service. This is our favorite getaway spot in the City.

Charming Hotel in Charming Union Square, SF

- Dec 26, 2012
We spent one very lovely evening at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel on Union Square in between visiting family up and down California. The room is very stylishly appointed with great beds, pillows, and linens. The only down side for room amenities was there was no coffee maker or mini-refrigerator in the room. The other disappointment was that the Starlight room is closed on Sunday nights so we were not able to enjoy any time there. We were looking forward to having a cocktail there and taking in the view. Oh well, on another stay. Otherwise it was a really nice holiday splurge to stay here the one night. Got a good price for the one night. Additionally, valet parking including tax was $57 per night. That seems steep even for San Francisco and I live in Manhattan. The staff at the hotel are all super friendly and helpful.

Overall we had a great time. Amazing location, right smack in the heart of Union Square area of San Francisco. The room was very comfortable. Only downside was our bathroom was super small. It was a solid stay for the price we got. If I were to have paid more I would of been a bit disappointed.

The Prescott is pretty neat. Located on Post St not far from Market St and the Ferry Building as well as BART and many Muni lines. The room was a little small and lacking a mini fridge, BUT the tub in the room was a spa tub which is a VERY nice perk. Free WiFi and nice little rooms and toiletries. The only downside was that I did not get T-Mobile reception in the hotel except for the lobby. All in all, a good value and a good location if Downtown SF is where you want to be. I'd definitely stay again.

Upscale attitude but only fair value

Rooms in San Francisco are all expensive, so the Westin is no exception. But while it has an air of being more expensive at the lobby level, the rooms are only average in terms of amenities and comfort.
The best features are the floor to ceiling windows offering stunning views of the City; the comfortable linens; and the very quiet and efficient HVAC system.
The bathroom and furnishings are nothing special whatsoever. And the ridiculous snack tray can't be moved because it's electronically tethered so you have to stare at a mini-mart on the dresser of your $250+ per night hotel room.

Anniversary Getaway

- Oct 17, 2012
We chose the Mark Hopkins to stay at for our one year wedding anniversary trip to SF. When we checked in I asked for a room on a high floor to take advantage of the views, the front desk said all they could do was floor 6 and I was slightly disappointed but figured it would be okay. When we got to our room we were so disappointed, it was at the end of the hallway crammed into a corner with an adjoining door. I made my husband do something we have NEVER done before and call the front desk and ask for another room. They said they had a room available outside of the elevator on the same floor and we agreed to take it. When we opened the door to the 2nd room it was amazing; spacious with a huge bathroom, plenty of room around the bed and great views outside of 2 windows. I was just surprised that when asking for a special room we were given something small and cramped when something else was available.
Other then that our 2 night stay was fantastic. Definitely check out the views at the Top of the Mark bar and DEFINITELY ask to be switched to a different room if you are not pleased with your original. I don't think I would stay here again due to its location (at the top of a steep hill) but no complaints otherwise.

Wonderful. We wanted a fun getaway for our anniversary and that's what we got. Rooms were new and clean. Views were awesome. John the concierge treated us very nice. Location was perfect. Didn't need a car at all. Still doing construction but didn't bother us at all. Everyone was great.

This hotel is primarily geared to business travelers since it is located in the financial rather than touristic area. The beds and rooms are super-comfortable, very important for jet-lagged travelers.
Classic contemporary decor with nice art work.
Near good restaurants, many of which are closed on weekend.
Would definitely return, near Chinatown, North Beach, Ferry Terminal. Much quieter than tourist throngs in Union Square area.

This hotel met my expectations. Excellent location, the staff was very friendly and the rooms were clean. My only complaint is that they charge the guests $10/day to use the Internet in the room. It's free in the Lobby but that's an inconvenience. Overall nice stay.

We enjoyed our short stay at this hotel. The thing that really made our visit great was the staff. They were incredibly accommodating - from the front desk to the valet staff to the porters. We were very pleased with our stay and wouldn't hesitate to visit this location again.

While not really wholly the fault of the hotel, our first night was interrupted at 4:30am by a group of drunk neighbors that required two calls to the front desk to resolve.
Outside that the room was adequate.
Be careful when you order bay view. It is not the same as bridge view. While we could see the bay it was not what I anticipated. Still cool though

This hotel is conveniently located near the Ferry Building/Embarcadero. And is very close to lots of good restaurants, such as Slanted Door, Lamar and Boulevard. The hotel staff is very friendly and the rooms are clean. Also, during the holidays the atrium has nice Christmas decorations. I would stay here again.

The Palace Hotel is a good value. Significantly cheaper nightly rate than most of the other 4 star hotels in the financial district. Clean rooms, great service. The atrium restaurant is beautiful and the bar is great. Its an old hotel (+/-150 years?), but that adds character and prestige, not a detriment -- long history of many past presidents and heads of state have stayed there. Highly recommend.

Ideally located next to Montgomery Street BART station for this storied pre-1906 hotel. Truly grand in all respects although the modest sized rooms, additional wi-fi charges, and limited soundproofing between rooms might be a problem for some. That said, this is an exceptional hotel experience.

Lovely hotel, very accommodating staff. Great location near the museums and Union Square, but kind of sleepy at night. In-lobby DJs were a nice touch. Only thing we didn't like about this hotel are the crazy mini-bar prices - $8 for a tonic water, not to mention $12 for the little bit of gin to go with it.
Chilly and windy in this part of town (even in July) so make sure to bring long pants and jackets.
