Great Night at the Orchard Garden Hotel
-
Rita 'n Roger
- Dec 24, 2012
We were greeted warmly at the desk when we arrived hours before the official check-in time at this newish hotel located in the heart of downtown San Francisco. We were immediately given a room that was ready and everything was explained quickly and thoroughly regarding our room, checkout time, room key which turned on the electricity only when it was placed into a slot just inside the room. We were impressed that it was a "green" hotel and the staff made every effort to be energy efficient. The room itself was smallish which was fine with us because it was immaculate, and the bed was so comfortable that my husband and I slept 8 hours that night--rare for us even in our own home!
Justine and Bina at the front desk helped us with our directions, the best shopping in downtown San Francisco, and were very professional as well as friendly. We will definitely return to this lovely hotel.

The title says it all... great location in the Financial District, bordering Chinatown. Close to Muni buses and subway. The staff was wonderful... very friendly and helpful to us SF newbies. And the hotel itself is nicely-appointed, comfortable, clean, and quiet.
I stayed here with my wife and 2 young children, and would certainly stay again!

Weekend Tourists

LA Tourist Couple
- Dec 10, 2012
We came up from LA for the weekend to just be tourists in San Francisco. The OMNI is located within walking distance to so many areas (China Town, Financial District, Fisherman's Wharf, Embarcadero, AT&T Park, Little Italy) and is only 4 blocks from a BART station if you're wanting to go to other areas. We took BART to go to/from the airport and to the Orpheum Theater to see the Lion King. There's also a cable car stop right outside the hotel.
Since the OMNI is right in the heart of the Financial District, a lot of things in that area are closed on weekends since they cater to the Monday-Friday crowd, but you'll find lots of things open just a short walk away. It was nice to stay in a quieter, less touristy area actually.
The staff at the OMNI is the best you'll find, from the doorman to the front desk to the maids to room service. Upon arrival into our room, we had a hand-written note from the maid along with a note from the hotel staff welcoming us and telling us to not hesitate to let them know if we needed anything at all. Anytime we would pass a maid in the hallway, she would say hello and ask us how our day was. The doormen asked us if they could point us in the direction of anything each time we left, and they welcomed us back each time we returned. We couldn't believe how friendly everyone was, and how each person seemed to be in such a good mood, enjoying what they do.
Our bed was very comfortable. We can't stop talking about the pillows! The room itself was spacious and everything was in perfect working order.
Be sure to join their rewards program (it's FREE) for complimentary in-room wireless and daily morning beverages and newspaper (weekdays only) delivery.

We stayed as a Starwood Preferred Guest and could not have had a nicer room or view. Overlooked Union Square with the beautiful Christmas Tree and Skating Rink. The in hotel dining is always excellent; as is room service. This is our favorite getaway spot in the City.

Green boutique Nob Hill hotel blends history and eco-consciousnessGreen is the reality at the Hotel Carlton, a Joie de Vivre property. The Nob Hill hotel is certified by the city of San Francisco as a green business, is one of the few hotels in town to have solar panels, and was the first hotel in the U.S. to receive the LEED EB O&M distinction. The structure itself is historic, and dates back to the early 1900s. Inside, the vibe is international, as walls are adorned with art photos from the American Himalayan Foundation. Highlights Located mere blocks from City Hall and the Federal BuildingComplimentary nightly wine hour; free guided tour of the cityOn-site restaurant Saha offers Arabic fusion cuisine Rooms The majority of the Carlton's rooms offer guests expansive, unobstructed city views (a rarity in this district of San Francisco) because the hotel isn't flanked by adjoining buildings. Each of the 160 rooms (and the lone suite) includes an in-room laptop safe, a ceiling fan, and a CD player that is MP3 compatible. Decor in these rooms is soft; soothing tones of light blue and cream are punctuated by touches of glowing colors, such as saffron, Oriental red and a cheerful persimmon. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available. Pets are welcome (fees apply). Features Without question, the Hotel Carlton's attention to conservation is a major accomplishment. Nearly one quarter of the hotel's energy is generated by the rooftop solar panel installation. All guests are invited to a complimentary wine hour every night, and are entitled to a complimentary tour of the city with a Golden Gate Greeter (a volunteer local expert). Also complimentary: morning towncar service to the Financial District, and shuttle service to and from the San Francisco Airport. The hotel Hotel Carlton offers adjoining rooms, ideal for families. This is the 2nd time I have stayed at the Carlton. I arrived around 11 pm and presented myself to the hotel consierge. I gave him my name and the paperwork from the online travel company I had booked through and he told me that he did not have any reservation. I told him I had booked through a popular travel booking site and he again said that I was not listed. Luckily, the hotel was not full and he was able to give me a room and honor the travel site receipt. I was up and out early the next morning with no complaints about the hotel; I was only upset that the travel booking site had not provided the hotel with my reservation. Why is that?

Charming Hotel in Charming Union Square, SF

We spent one very lovely evening at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel on Union Square in between visiting family up and down California. The room is very stylishly appointed with great beds, pillows, and linens. The only down side for room amenities was there was no coffee maker or mini-refrigerator in the room. The other disappointment was that the Starlight room is closed on Sunday nights so we were not able to enjoy any time there. We were looking forward to having a cocktail there and taking in the view. Oh well, on another stay. Otherwise it was a really nice holiday splurge to stay here the one night. Got a good price for the one night. Additionally, valet parking including tax was $57 per night. That seems steep even for San Francisco and I live in Manhattan. The staff at the hotel are all super friendly and helpful.

Overall we had a great time. Amazing location, right smack in the heart of Union Square area of San Francisco. The room was very comfortable. Only downside was our bathroom was super small. It was a solid stay for the price we got. If I were to have paid more I would of been a bit disappointed.

Really enjoyed our stay at the Clift. Excellent location, pleasant staff, and terrific design (thank you Philippe Starck). The hotel has a basic fitness centre, and the bathroom had a rather inconvenient layout. But the beds are comfortable, the food was good, and the service friendly.

The Prescott is pretty neat. Located on Post St not far from Market St and the Ferry Building as well as BART and many Muni lines. The room was a little small and lacking a mini fridge, BUT the tub in the room was a spa tub which is a VERY nice perk. Free WiFi and nice little rooms and toiletries. The only downside was that I did not get T-Mobile reception in the hotel except for the lobby. All in all, a good value and a good location if Downtown SF is where you want to be. I'd definitely stay again.

Historic grandeur overlooking the Golden Gate City This Nob Hill mainstay, dating back to 1907, blends contemporary and historic tastes. Decorative touches such as marble floors and Corinthian columns evoke turn-of-the-century grandeur, while modern conveniences such as high-speed Internet and a full-service fitness center and spa keep travelers grounded in the present. Three well-regarded restaurants offer options for every meal, and the city's oldest Tiki bar provides a break from the formality of the hotel. HighlightsThe hilltop location delivers panoramic and breathtaking views of San Francisco BayHop on any one of the city's cable cars right out frontUnion Square shopping is only a four-block walk from the hotel Rooms Accommodations -- 591 rooms, 62 of them suites -- span two buildings: the original, circa-1907 structure and a tower built in the 1960s. Rooms vary in size (325-425 square feet; up to 6,000 for suites), but all come with flat-screen televisions, Frette luxury linens, MP3 docking stations and Miller Harris toiletries. Many also offer stunning views of San Francisco Bay, while Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet access are available in all (fees apply). Features The hotel has received numerous awards, including the AAA Four Diamond Award and ExxonMobil Four Star Award. Marble floors and Corinthian columns trimmed in gold accentuate the ornate Main Lobby. This area, spruced up in 1999, transports guests back to 1907, when the hotel opened. It may also transport TV fans back to the 1980s: Aaron Spelling's "Hotel" series was shot here. The United Nations Charter was drafted in the hotel, and even the concierge service is historic. East Bay Getaway
- Dec 17, 2012
The Fairmont is a great place to base a visit to San Francisco at any time of year. Lots of hustle and bustle particularly during Christmas/Holiday season. Surprisingly, you have to request coffee set up in your room in advance. When we ordered a pot of coffee, it did not arrive for over an hour and only after we called about the order to Room Service. They did comp us for the coffee, however. But it remains a beautiful hotel albeit a pricey option.

Anniversary Getaway

- Oct 17, 2012
We chose the Mark Hopkins to stay at for our one year wedding anniversary trip to SF. When we checked in I asked for a room on a high floor to take advantage of the views, the front desk said all they could do was floor 6 and I was slightly disappointed but figured it would be okay. When we got to our room we were so disappointed, it was at the end of the hallway crammed into a corner with an adjoining door. I made my husband do something we have NEVER done before and call the front desk and ask for another room. They said they had a room available outside of the elevator on the same floor and we agreed to take it. When we opened the door to the 2nd room it was amazing; spacious with a huge bathroom, plenty of room around the bed and great views outside of 2 windows. I was just surprised that when asking for a special room we were given something small and cramped when something else was available.
Other then that our 2 night stay was fantastic. Definitely check out the views at the Top of the Mark bar and DEFINITELY ask to be switched to a different room if you are not pleased with your original. I don't think I would stay here again due to its location (at the top of a steep hill) but no complaints otherwise.

Hotel is perfectly situated by Union Square and close to cable cars and great food.only negative is it is a tad noisy if you are a light sleeper due to deliveries and trash pickup around midnight to 2am to other stores, etc.everything else was amazingly positive. The staff was awesome from the second we walked in the doors.we loved our room and had decent view of city.area is very clean with a great fusion of people and culture.will definitely stay here again. Also if you need a ride from the airport and plan on a cab, they can schedule for a towncar or suburban for the same price.

Hotel very central to Union Square, shopping, restaurants and China Town. Hotel very clean and staff very friendly and helpful regarding directions, places to visit etc. Hotel is an old (by American standards) building and therefore furniture & furnishings are quite dated. Beds could also be more comfortable.

Centrally located, and a well trained and interested staff. I would definitely stay there again. Walked to Fisherman's Wharf from there, and to Ferry Building. Clean room and nice people.

We stayed on the 6th floor in a junior suite. It was worth the extra money. Breakfast was danish, croissants, muffins and fruit. Wine and cheese and nuts was very good. Lots of wine and plenty of snacks. After a long day out and about is was nice to come back to the hotel and relax. Very clean place to stay. Walking distance to transportation. I would definitely stay here again.

We recently stayed 7 nights at the Beresford Arms Hotel. We could not find fault with it at all. The staff were excellent and extremely helpful.
We had an excellent holiday and the wine and cheese late afternoon was an excellent touch.
There was no problem with the area if I had to make a critisism it would be that some of the usrrounding areas are less selective so you had to be aware of the route you were takinng but it was ot a problem.

Lovely big room with comfortable kingsize bed.
Shame the bar area was small and closed at 9pm.
Great location at the corner where the cable car runs. Luckily only one uphill block to climb! Also handy having a Starbucks down the hill for breakfast.
Would stay there again.

The hotel staff was very nice, other than the fact that even though you pay for your room ahead of time, they still take a card for "incidentels". This is fine, but there should be a clearly visible sign that notes you will be charged160.00 for those incidentels, and the difference in using a credit card and debit card should also be clearly noted. Without notification by hotel staff. Room was great, location awesome! Perfect for young couples!
