Comfy king bed. Helpful staff. Good ice machine. When I left my keys in the door twice the front desk let me know. Cheap room price. The bad, creepy people around the parking lot but I had no problems with anyone. Just be aware they rent rooms by the month so there are a few seedy types around.
Oh ya someone set off the fire alarm at 3:30AM and it was nice to see 5 police car show up. Still had a good time and will stay there again.

The bathtub was dirty and the shower was cold, but the staff was simply excellent once we found the RIGHT Howard Johnson's. If they'd adjust the water & clean the tub, it's otherwise a fine place to stay if you're doing something at the university, as I was. The staff was superb! (They may even have made these improvements if I had bugged them about it.) OH: and it was a SMOKING ROOM with a QUEEN BED, when we asked for non-smoking and a KING bed. Argh...

The Cabrillo Inn and Suites is a 2 story hotel that has been newly remodeled and painted in 2008. We also have new linens, 18 rooms, free covered parking, in room safes, air conditioning, mini refrigerators, microwave ovens, TVs, heaters, ceiling fans, wet bar in mini suite, king and queen beds, connecting rooms, and continental breakfast. Our common porch has a view of the beautiful San Diego harbor.

This hotel was a major disappointment. It claimed that it was recently renovated, but it seemed run-down and old. The concrete at the top of the stairs was crumbling and the wallpaper was peeling in the room.
Cons:
– no alarm clock in room!
– no hairdryer in room!
– very small soap bars and no conditioner
– funny smell in the room like smoke had been covered up
– no “Do Not Disturb” placards for the door
– covered parking is under the building and extremely cramped; compact cars only with limited spaces available
– it took three rings of the doorbell to get someone to come to the front desk even though the manager lives in an apartment behind the front desk
– the paperwork to fill out with ID information must be from the 80s
I chose this hotel over another because it said it had “free continental breakfast.” Buyer beware! This consists of a coffeepot (only regular, no decaf) and one tray of square, store-bought pastries (all the same kind). I was very disappointed and had to go out to eat every morning, exactly what I was trying to avoid.
I do not recommend this hotel – stay at one of the many other ones in San Diego and get a better value with the amenities standard in a hotel (alarm clock, hairdryer, etc.).

I really enjoyed that your rooms were clean I felt really comfy falling asleep. But I was disappointed that no one went in the next morning to take out the trash or check If we had toilet paper but those are flaws that can be fixed so I will be using you again!

A conference hotel on Coronado had sold out. (did not want to pay over $200 a night either). This one was about 15 minutes away. Was quite (especially being so close to I-5) The painters got a bit carried away during the last overhaul and could stand some cleaning up on the stray paint. The HBO guide was for the previous month, but I didn't have the inclination to watch TV anyway. Since it had some age, the room size was large and the water flow was high. With my schedule, did not have much interaction with the staff.

I was put in a small queen room that felt like more of a closet than anything else, after being told I had a "free upgrade" on the website. Turns out, I got stuck in a tiny room between another room and the engineering room, so between the banging and loud noises from both rooms, didn't get much sleep to say the least. Staff is friendly and was helpful and offered for me to change rooms if I extended my stay.

It's hard to be the price. The hotel is right on the beach, ocean front. It's a basic place, nothing fancy. If you want a place to crash, shower, and head to the beach all day, this is it. VERY friendly staff.

Das Motel liegt mit dem Auto ca. 10 Minuten vom Flughafen entfernt. Die Zimmer sind sehr klein und die Ausstattung schon ziemlich veraltet. Vergleicht man den Preis mit anderen Motels, kann man sagen, dass man, wenn nicht gerade Hauptsaison ist, leicht ein Motel mit besserer Ausstattung und in gleicher Lage zum gleichen Preis bekommen kann.

We were in town for business and wouldn't be spending much time in a motel room, so we were looking for something inexpensive. This motel was that. It was clean and the bed was comfortable, but it was a little run down and pretty noisy. But since we basically just needed someplace to sleep, it worked okay.

Not the worst part of the trip

I went to San Diego to stand vigil at my father-in-law's bedside while he wasted away and eventually died from lymphoma. That was the worst part of the trip.
Compared to that, my stay at the Days Inn was decent but nothing to write home about. The deadbolt was broken in the room I was in and there was a huge gap under the door, making me feel slightly unsafe. Thankfully I had other things to occupy my mind and didn't care much.
The staff was reasonable. They got me in and out without much hassle, and that was good. They gave me extra pillows when I asked, too, which was very nice of them.

I loved the kitchen with a stove, microwave, and a full size refrierator. It provided the other necessities of a hotel room. The freeway is nearby, but you don't hear the noise. Its an easy drive to Seaworld, the zoo, etc from here too. The one bad thing was the toilet didn't work on our 4th of 5 nights at about 12am and when I called the front desk I was told maintenance would be told in the morning. When the 3 of us left at 930 am the toilet still wasn't looked at.

This is definately a bare bones place with only bar soap, and TP provided; not even a tissue in the room. The bed was soft but ok. The big positive was how clean the room was and the fact that they are pet friendly and have a friendly staff.

This is a motel that just provides the basics and that was what I expected. The staff was very nice and very helpful at several visits to the front desk. Our room was clean and it did have the basics taken care of. Three bucks a day for wi-fi and the location is excellent to get out and around by car. Great jogging area. Do not order food from the "Order Desk" food service. It is very expensive, small portions and horrible. I would stay there again.

The hotel was a fine place for someone on a budget. Its in a good location in regards to Seaworld and the Beach, and public transport is cheap to take you there. However, to get into the city and to the local baseball arena it was a $20 taxi ride. You get what you pay for and it was just fine for what I needed.

We really thought it was better than advertised,but we should have known better,we are used to staying at 4 to 5 start hotels ,so it was partly our fault.so we moved out and went to Courtyard of marriott for $250 a night and it was totally worth it.

The hotel was easily accessible to the trolley and downtown. However, when we asked for a room with 2 beds, they asked for an additional $15 dollars per night. On top of the already $90 spent for this type of accommodation, I thought that was a bit much for this location. But, because the HYATT lost our reservation, we were left with no real choice. Overall, the staff was nice and the room was clean.

We arrived on Friday night and stayed till Sunday morning. The room smelled old. And the coffee maker didn't work in the room. But the location was exactly what we wanted. Close to the beach and to the zoo and sea world. The price of the room was excellent considering we would rather spend our money on activities rather than a room to sleep. I would recommend this place.

We had read some of the other reviews and weren't sure if this was going to be a good fit. However, we only have two main requirements: Clean and Safe.
When we checked in the Bullet Proof Glass protecting the Front Desk was a little unnerving, but our room ended up being on the 3rd floor and they had several security cameras, so we were satisfied.
This was a great hotel for the price, especially with the included breakfast. Location was awesome because you can get to many of San Diego destinations with quick access to I-8, but quiet enough to not hear traffic noise at night.
The room was small, but clean and we were happy.

Chose this hotel as good value - I did not get a car as only there three days - about 0.7 miles to the Old Town Trolley stop giving a good service into town or out to the shopping areas. The walk seems OK but not sure I'd want to do it too late at night.

As long as go in knowing what you are getting (shared bathroom, nothing fancy, no A/C) you'll be fine. I think its a good value for the location. Its about 5 blocks from the gaslamp district. Stayed in a room with full size bed. Room is small, has small TV. Our room window was facing the street outside so it was pretty noisy. The shared bathroom situation was not bad except for the fact that some of the shower drains didn't drain quickly so the water accumulated and I was standing in water, gross! This happened in 2/4 showers we used. Def come prepared with flip flops you can use to walk around the room and while in the shower. The front desk staff were helpful and friendly.

My family and I had a very good experience here. The room was clean and comfortable. Mike at reception is great and very friendly. The cleaning staff id also very friendly and get you what you need right away. Breakfast was pretty good... And no, its not just Danish pastries.and coffee... There's several options... I was definitely satisfied with everything.. I will definitely come to stay here next time. The only thing that wad not too gray wad that the room is a bit small but still a very good deal.

Clean, safe, fine location close to trolley stop

The folks at the front desk were very helpful and nice to work with. The room was clean, simply a decent place to sleep and shower, etc. No pool or any other kind of amenity, except good coffee and a light free breakfast (hard boiled eggs, cereal, juice.) The free wi-fi was spotty at best, usually not worth the effort. I'd booked a single, got a double, with a refrigerator, tv, coffee pot (unused due to coffee all the time at the desk which was good) and a safe. The occasional train went by, but that wasn't horrible if you close the window. Harbor is about a block away, but it's a several block walk to get to anything interesting on the water. Little Italy with great food is a couple of blocks walk. Easy access to the freeway by a short, main connector. Easy access to the trolley, about a three block walk. All-in-all, fine if you're on a budget and don't want resort-style amenities.

Stayed at this hotel for two nights prior to going on a cruise. It is in a central location near harbor area, cruise port, Little Italy section, airport, USS Midway. Room a little small, but well kept. Staff was very courtious. As other reviews say, walls are thin and intersection of Pacific and Grape is very busy and NOISY. Planes landing at airport are very close as well, and very LOUD. Would stay here again for a day or two. However earplugs would help.

This is a no frills hotel, very close to the center of San Diego. For the price, I got everything I needed. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the room was clean, and had both a microwave and mini fridge. This isn't a fancy place, but it was clean and easy to get to all the best places in San Diego.

The hotel is a good hotel, but I only gave three instead of four stars because of the location of my room. My room was in front of the street and it was very loud. Even when the window was closed. And in the night it was sometimes very cold that I couldn't sleep well and I couldn't find any air-conditioner. But the location is good and you can reach La Jolla Beach in 10 minutes and Downtown San Diego in 20 minutes.
