Fantastic weekend getaway
-
Bbgirl505
- Jun 7, 2010
My hubby and I went on a weekend getaway and decided to stay at this hotel.
The short drive from the main gate to the hotel was quiet with nice sceneries. By the time we reach the hotel, they were ready to take our bags and check us in.
The room is amazing! We had a view of a garden and the golf course. Marble flooring, small screen TV, duel sink, and a telephone in the bathroom. Fluffy bed, pillows, comforter, and towels (The pillow and bed is a little too soft for me but it's okay). There is even a mini/wet bar~!
The staffs are very friendly and helpful. While we were checking out, they went to get our car so we didn't have to wait~!!
The pool was nice and empty, which was kind of cool.
We didn't use the fitness center but we went in there just to check it out. The equipments are very clean and it doesn't look beat up.
We wanted to eat at Addison but we didn't bring the appropriate clothing so we went to Amaya instead. The food was very delicious!!
We would definitely go back when we need another quiet relaxing getaway!!

Pretty Good Choice in San Diego

The hotel was lovely and the wine hour was great. They don't have self-parking so prepare to pay $40 each day for their valet service or "park at your own risk" across the street.

Hip hotel at a great price
-

- Dec 10, 2012
Exactly what you'd expect from a Kimpton hotel - clean, hip decor, well-appointed comfortable rooms, and a good location.
The only complaint I had was that people in the hallways can be LOUD. I get that it's something of a party hotel, but wow it seems like the doors must be made of paper for all the good they did in blocking noise.
Side note- If you don't want to hear bass thumping in your room, make sure you request specifically not to be placed on the 5th floor overlooking the pool. It wasn't overwhelming, but it wasn't helping my hangover any while I was trying to sleep it off on a Saturday morning.

Hip, open-plan hotel in historic Gaslamp QuarterThe Keating is a small, 35-room hotel in the center of the Gaslamp Quarter of downtown San Diego. Designed by Pininfarina (read: Ferrari and Maserati) and opened in 2007, the hotel prides itself on its unconventionality and caters to people with active lifestyles. On site are the Sway Lounge, a chic nightclub with an underground NYC ambience, a spa offering Swedish stress-relief, a pizzeria, Club diVino and the MerK restaurant. The Keating also offers meeting facilities and in-room couple's massage and aromatherapy. 3 Reasons To Stay: Cutting-edge, Pininfarina-designed boutique hotel in a listed, historic 1890s building Located in the vibrant Gaslamp Quarter near San Diego's major attractions and entertainment venues Fine dining, Italian wine collection and exclusive wine tastings from local wineries The Keating RoomsThe 35 luxurious 'stanzas' (guest rooms) and suites feature customized furnishings, such as spacious closets, ergonomic chairs, and custom-design beds by Pininfarina. Many aspects of the 1890s building, like mahogany fittings and stainless steel, remain. The loft-style rooms feature no interior walls: the traditional bathroom/bedroom division is replaced by an open floor plan. Resin and concrete floor treatments eliminate the need for carpeting. Hilton Bay Front for a Staycation
-
Dr DaveS
- Nov 23, 2012
I live here in San Diego so I'm a little spoiled for the views but he Bay Front location is just wonderful. Great for a stroll down to Sea Port Village or downtown/gaslamp district. This would count as our third staycation here so they must be doing something right. Can't figure out what about their beds & sheets are the most comfortable I've experienced in any hotel save for maybe J.W. Marriott. Their downside is the fees for this & that are too high and you get a little feeling of being nickeled and dimed if you want something anything....e.g. parking, room service is too high, wi-fi, etc

Nice clean hotel in a great location. All staff were friendly and helpful. Room service was hot and tasty. Only thing I can think of is it costs $4.50 for a 20 oz plastic bottle of water in the room, sheesh!

We loved staying at the Hard Rock in San Diego Gaslamp District! Hotel was steps away from many restaurants, bars, and shops. Rooms were modern, clean, and comforatable. We got a quiet room on the 12th floor overlooking the stadium. Pool was cute and the lounges were a lot of fun! Will definitely stay here again next time.

Upscale and affordable
-
Patwill9

A surprisingly affordable slice of luxury in downtown San Diego. The rooms are spacious and attractively decorated, there's a friendly vibe among the staff and guests, the marina is a 10 minute walk away, and there's a terrific brewpub next door.
There is a downside to all this value: not an awesome location if you are a fun seeker instead of a businessperson. You'll have to cab or walk to the Gas Lamp district and there is zero shopping other than the chain store laden mall.
I was happy to make the trade off to stay at a hotel I couldn't otherwise afford.

Great spot to stay for a short vaca! My room was clean, staff was nice and location was satisfactory. Minutes away walking to the Gaslamp District. The new 'rooftop' lounge is a nice spot, even though its not literally on the rooftop (2nd floor). Very posh.
The gym has minimal equipment but enough to get by. They have a nice foosball table close to the pool which is always fun. I would recommend a stay...

Very Classic Hotel
-
Anonymous
- Dec 6, 2012
The furniture, moldings, and even the door keys scream classic charm. They try very hard to make this a five star experience and come very close. Much of the staff is young (not always a bad thing) and may still be searching for their own careers outside the hotel industry. Since they're not fully committed, this shows through just a bit from time to time and only creates a minor tarnish. Overall, great place to stay if you want to have easy access to areas outside downtown.

A guy with modest needs
- Dec 4, 2012
I greatly enjoyed my stay. The place was very nice, the room was very nice. The amenities were outstanding.
The staff was friendly.
The hotel lobby has a glass elevator that is very very cool.
A few small kinks caused some minor issues:
1. The breakfast in the cafe was terrible. I told them and they never got back to me about this, though they said they would.
2. The phone in my room did not work. This was fixed very quickly.
3. I asked for a few things (tissues, coffee) to be brought up, and they did not understand me - (?english as a second language problems?) but this got fixed pretty quick
4. I asked them to reserve a van to the ariport for me at a certain time, and they screwed that up twice, though it was ok because I expected that they would do that and I was able to catch a van on time.
5. On my way from the airport to the hotel, they claimed that they sent the van 2 times, so I ended up calling them 4 times, and waiting around at the airport for over an hour. Eventually they got me but there was very poor communication there.

We liked the hotel but we were not comfortable walking in the area because of the large number of homeless people occupying the sidewalks.
We had a good dinner in the hotel's restaurant, but we were practically the only people in the place. That detracted from the otherwise ok ambience.

So quiet, clean, and cozy that was tough to leave the bed, especially with the great channel selections on TV. Great location.

Parking: 35 dollars. It is from check in to check out but because I was watching a Padres game on day of check out, they allowed me to stay until after game without charging me again. This was really cool. Overall, the staff gets 5 stars, from check in, valet, room service to the poolside staff.
The best thing about this was the location. I went to a padres game without ever leaving the building, went to dinner, went to a club both which were walking distance.
The room seemed kind of small, but it felt clean. I guess I expected to be wowed a little more but it is just ordinary room with a good quality bed. The view was great, to the bay. I couldn't get a balcony room.
There was no key in the room for the minibar so I had to order one. Also, our radio speakers were bad so we ordered a new radio and they brought it up quickly.
A girl in our party said that it could use another outlet by the hall for hair drying by the mirror. IDK! Good overall.

We enjoyed the resort and the Pacific Beach neighborhood. Very lively beach community. The hotel is older and doesn't have all the amenities of a five-star hotel (eg, room refrigerator), but the location and pricing were hard to beat. Parking was $13/day, self-parking, more for valet. Easy driving access to downtown, Sea World, La Jolla coastline. Easy walking access to Pacific Beach and Mission Beach waterfront. If you just want to relax and not do all the San Diego tourist options, you could have a good time without a car. The resort has rental options for bicycles, skates, etc.

Wonderful fresh baked scones and a complete breakfast to start your day. A wine and cheese "happy hour" prior to a stroll in Balboa Park. Attentive staff and a chance to meet other guests whom you never would in other circumstances. Rooms very well decorated and the carriage house a bit small and perhaps could have used a ceiling fan, maybe not in keeping with victorian style? Convenient to Balboa park museums, the zoo, downtown and harbor area. Great restaurants within easy walking distance and felt safe even after dark. A very enjoyable stay.

Great Bed and Breakfast

Really beautiful property. Young, friendly, knowledgable staff. Tasty breakfast, but needs some variation. Each day was a scramble, eggs to order, or fruit and yogurt. Luxurious sheets!! Great location -- a short walk or drive to everything. A couple minor things were in disrepair: the front door knob, a slow drain in our room, and the piano is badly out of tune. The breakfast service on the last day was less professional -- he forgot about us a couple of times. Snacks and wine each evening were a delight. All in all, it was a great stay and I would recommend it and hope to return. The Gothic Room is very private and beautiful!

Very attentive staff and fabulous location RIGHT on Pacific Beach just north of the Crystal Pier. Lots of restaurants within walking distance. I rented a bike from Pure Life ($10/day for three days) and rode around Mission Bay and up to La Jolla. Great bike paths!

Good quality, small, boutique hotel with a minimalist design and friendly staff. The restaurant and terrace are great and the location is good for going out in Pacific Beach and the ocean is thirty seconds away. The rooms were too expensive however.

Nice hotel!

The hotel was very nice and had lots of amenities which we unfortunately weren't able to take advantage of because of the weather. This location was quite convenient to all local atractions but If I go back to San Diego again, I would probably choose to stay in the Gaslamp Quarter because of the better choice of restaurants, etc.
The staff was great and the room was very clean. We were upgraded to a deluxe room when we arrived which was nice because of the private balcony. One bad thing was that our time on the 9th floor was next to the elevator shaft which was noisy.
All in all, this was a good value and I would recommend.

Stayed here for Comic-Con 2012; be warned, it's one of the furthest from Downtown but still serviced by the free shuttles and is about a 30 minute ride one-way. The hotel itself was clean and the staff was very friendly. The room (2 double beds) seemed a little on the small side but the bathroom was pretty large. Would recommend if you're OK with the location and would stay again if it weren't so far from the Gaslamp and Convention Center.
