Exactly what you'd expect from a Kimpton hotel - clean, hip decor, well-appointed comfortable rooms, and a good location.
The only complaint I had was that people in the hallways can be LOUD. I get that it's something of a party hotel, but wow it seems like the doors must be made of paper for all the good they did in blocking noise.
Side note- If you don't want to hear bass thumping in your room, make sure you request specifically not to be placed on the 5th floor overlooking the pool. It wasn't overwhelming, but it wasn't helping my hangover any while I was trying to sleep it off on a Saturday morning.

Hip, open-plan hotel in historic Gaslamp QuarterThe Keating is a small, 35-room hotel in the center of the Gaslamp Quarter of downtown San Diego. Designed by Pininfarina (read: Ferrari and Maserati) and opened in 2007, the hotel prides itself on its unconventionality and caters to people with active lifestyles. On site are the Sway Lounge, a chic nightclub with an underground NYC ambience, a spa offering Swedish stress-relief, a pizzeria, Club diVino and the MerK restaurant. The Keating also offers meeting facilities and in-room couple's massage and aromatherapy. 3 Reasons To Stay: Cutting-edge, Pininfarina-designed boutique hotel in a listed, historic 1890s building Located in the vibrant Gaslamp Quarter near San Diego's major attractions and entertainment venues Fine dining, Italian wine collection and exclusive wine tastings from local wineries The Keating RoomsThe 35 luxurious 'stanzas' (guest rooms) and suites feature customized furnishings, such as spacious closets, ergonomic chairs, and custom-design beds by Pininfarina. Many aspects of the 1890s building, like mahogany fittings and stainless steel, remain. The loft-style rooms feature no interior walls: the traditional bathroom/bedroom division is replaced by an open floor plan. Resin and concrete floor treatments eliminate the need for carpeting. Expansive ceilings and the building's original exposed brick walls complement the decoration. We stayed overnight to attend the Holiday Bowl so the Sofia Hotel was perfectly located with the restaurants of the Gaslamp District, Seaport Village, and the trolley station all within a very short walk.
Our double bed room was quite small (thank heavens there was a sliding door on the bathroom!) but the bed was comfy and the room very clean and quiet. Brian at the front desk was helpful with tips on riding the trolley. Our stay was definitely good value for the money.

It is centrally located for access to many things to see and do whole in San diego. It is also near the water which is also nice. I am happy I picked this hotel and would like to return to that hotel when in San Diego.
The only issue I had was the fact they charge 20.00 a night for parking when that should be included in the stay as they have ample parking.

Our experience was very good with the hotel and staff. Front desk was very friendly. Our room was clean however the heating probably needs to be looked at. It did not seem to adjust to the control on the wall and the room seemed kind of cold even when set on 82. Overall great value with our additional discounts and a great location.

I found the staff to be very helpful and pleasant. Parking allowances for extended fishing trips and access to various eateries, docks/fishing fleets, makes the Yacht Harbor Hotel a perfect place for me to start and end my trips. The mornings breakfast bar is a real plus.

Hilton Bay Front for a Staycation
-
Dr DaveS
- Nov 23, 2012
I live here in San Diego so I'm a little spoiled for the views but he Bay Front location is just wonderful. Great for a stroll down to Sea Port Village or downtown/gaslamp district. This would count as our third staycation here so they must be doing something right. Can't figure out what about their beds & sheets are the most comfortable I've experienced in any hotel save for maybe J.W. Marriott. Their downside is the fees for this & that are too high and you get a little feeling of being nickeled and dimed if you want something anything....e.g. parking, room service is too high, wi-fi, etc

We had a great veiw of San Diego Harbor which was just across the street! There was a great walkway along the harbor with picnic tables and places to sit and a small sandy beach if that what you like. Always large Navy and Cruise ships silently floating in and out of the bay which is fun to see!
The breakfast buffet was delicious and always a friendly wait staff to help with coffee and drinks.
There is a 5 dollar a day parking fee if you park in their lot. But there is public parking on the side of the street and across the street in the park. 5 dollars to park in San Diego is CHEAP! and they do have security watching the lot.
Great location it took 15 minutes to get to the convention center , Embarkadero,Midway, and same to Cabrillo National Park in the opposite direction if you like Lighthouses and a wonderful veiw of San Diego and the harbor. The Sunset Cliffs are a must see just north of the park.
We would definatly return to the Bay Club again.

The sunrise in front of the hotel is breathtaking. All public spaces are appropriately updated, but the room smells and feels old. The king room is very generously proportioned, but the was little furniture in the room to fill the space (a loveseat or sofa would have been nice). The buffet breakfast is great, and the staff is one of the most helpful that I have encountered.

The hotel looks and feels dated, but it is all about the location.
It is located right at the bay. Horton plaza (heart of downtown) and Amtrak are within a mile.
The hotel provides shuttle to the Zoo, Horton Plaza, Amtrak and the Airport.
The staff were really nice, it was getting late for our flight, so the staff put us on a taxi and made sure we made it on time.
The furniture, decor and comfort were below par.
Overall the experience was pretty pleasant.

This is a clean and comfortable hotel for the money. It's located 3-4 blocks from the trolley. You can park your car, if you've brought one, and take the trolley throughout the city. The cost (as of this posting) was $5 a day per person for an all-day pass. The staff was very courteous and helpful. We chose not to eat at the restaurant associated with the hotel (only because we have our favorite places), so we can't comment on the resturant. The hotel is located in your "typical" downtown neighborhood in any large city--meaning you'll see all types of people (tourists, families, business people as well as homeless individuals). We took the trolley to Petco Park, the Gaslamp District and to the Fashion Valley Mall (a very nice place to shop). My husband and I have stayed at many upscale Marriott, Westin and Sheraton hotels on business. However, for our personal travel, this is a nice hotel for the money. I don't believe it has a fitness or business center, but does offer free wi-fi, although it seemed a little slow when used with our iPad. We'd stay here again.

A surprisingly affordable slice of luxury in downtown San Diego. The rooms are spacious and attractively decorated, there's a friendly vibe among the staff and guests, the marina is a 10 minute walk away, and there's a terrific brewpub next door.
There is a downside to all this value: not an awesome location if you are a fun seeker instead of a businessperson. You'll have to cab or walk to the Gas Lamp district and there is zero shopping other than the chain store laden mall.
I was happy to make the trade off to stay at a hotel I couldn't otherwise afford.

Great spot to stay for a short vaca! My room was clean, staff was nice and location was satisfactory. Minutes away walking to the Gaslamp District. The new 'rooftop' lounge is a nice spot, even though its not literally on the rooftop (2nd floor). Very posh.
The gym has minimal equipment but enough to get by. They have a nice foosball table close to the pool which is always fun. I would recommend a stay...

San Deigo Visit

The hotel is well situated to most of the attractions. The only draw back for me was that the building I stayed in (Casa Marina) was at the far end of the complex. This meant you had to walk a fair distance to the lobby/restaurant and pools. I also paid for a deluxe waterview room and was given a room on the ground floor facing the marina. Nice view of all the boats in the marina but not what I would call a "deluxe" waterview room. The selection for breakfast menu was a bit limited and the service a bit slow at first. I would return to this hotel again but I will ask for a second or third floor room. I would recommend this property to others, as it is a close location from the airport and surrounding attractions as well as a pretty decent value for your dollar. The front desk staff were all fantastic. When I checked into my room, the clock wasn't working well and they sent someone to fix it right away. They were also very helpful in providing answers to any questions that I had. Great job all!!

The staff was excellent and so friendly. I would recommend getting a room on the marina side. The large pool was clean and not to cold. Going back

Although a large hotel, the Marriott Marquis & Marina never felt crowded or frenetic. The room was very comfortable, staff pleasant and location unbeatable.

My wife and I decided to travel to the San Diego market on q whim and were very pleased when we checked in. This hotel offers a great location, convenient to the beach with a fantastc staff. The only downside is the absence of nicer restaurants within walking distance. In general we were very pleased and are planning our next stay for the same location.

MCRD graduation family

Hotel was fine, beds comfortable. Bathroom fan made noise but that was all it did. Bathroom smells lingered for hours literally as did shower humidity . Windows of room dripping with moisture, too too humid. Otherwise, great location. Also, my 80 year old parents needed shuttle to airport but were told that with MCRD graduation, their staff would be too busy to provide that service on. That day.

Very Classic Hotel
-
Anonymous
- Dec 6, 2012
The furniture, moldings, and even the door keys scream classic charm. They try very hard to make this a five star experience and come very close. Much of the staff is young (not always a bad thing) and may still be searching for their own careers outside the hotel industry. Since they're not fully committed, this shows through just a bit from time to time and only creates a minor tarnish. Overall, great place to stay if you want to have easy access to areas outside downtown.
