Staff was rude at check in. Hotel reservations were not booked properly. Stains on floor were not appealing at all. We were comped a larger room for scheduling error on hotel's part. Hotel is insanely close to Sea World and Mission Beach. Overall, it was a place to flop and get some rest. Nothing fancy.

The hotel is located very centrally, we were very close to everything!! It's a beautiful hotel the only issue I had was our room was cleaned very late in the day 5 p.m and was not always done properly. Bath mat was forgot, towels were forgot, they turned our heat on....a few little things. We wanted to eat at the only nice restraunt Baleen and we were told they were totally booked so book your dinner early. Other than that nice place to relax, very quiet and you have pretty much everything you need there.

The location is really convenient to Sea World, Ocean Beach, Old Town, and Downtown, so that was a big plus for me. The rooms were kinda dumpy, but they were clean, and they had smoking rooms. The staff was very nice, and upon learning that we had just gotten married, they put together a little "newlywed" package of Cup O Noodles and breakfast bear claws, and a little handmade "Congratulations" card, complete with star stickers. :-) I thought that was so cute it was amazing. :-) For being kinda dumpy, the place was quiet and no one bothered us at all. I don't know i I would make it a vacation spot, but if you want one step above a hostel and one step below a Day's Inn, and cheap prices, it's an okay place, :-)

Overall very good

Location is perfect: walking distance to Sea World, close drive to Old Town, Downtown San Diego and La Jolla. We also liked amenities a lot - you have everything you need: outdoor pools, jacuzzi, very nice fitness center, restaurant and bar. View from the tower room was to die for. The only complain would be the cleanliness of the room: the night stands were dusty and we noticed some hair in the shower and on the bathroom floor after check in. Certainly not what you would expect as a standard to this kind of hotel. However, overall a great experience and would definitely come back.

San Diego is an amazing city with plenty of things to do and places to eat. This hotel is centrally located to just about all major attractions...would've rated it a 5. Although, there is nothing scenic to look at outside the hotel window--not the hotel's fault. The hotel was very clean, the staff was extremely helpful and friendly. We would certainly stay there again upon our next visit!

Not great, not horrible.

- Aug 17, 2010
We weren't at the hotel often, but when we were it was very easy to hear when everyone else was there too. Located right off the freeway, the traffic noise is inevitable, but the softball game across the road in the morning was unexpected. Guests' car alarms going off and people generally being noisy late at night and early morning were not the hotel's fault, but still made the stay less than enjoyable.
All the outlets in the room were horrible! We had a hard time finding an outlet that was not loose so we could charge our phones. That was a bad point.
A weird rip on my comforter with a stain around it weirded me out too. We would have liked a microwave in addition to the mini fridge to heat up our food, but there was none.
The location was amazing for us, right across from mission bay and a short drive to downtown. That was a redeeming point.
Staff was friendly and prompt. No problem there.
I would recommend if you are not expecting much from your hotel other than a place to sleep and shower or take a break during the day's activities, which is what we used it for.

We were pretty happy with the Dana; if we come back to San Diego we would probably stay there again.
First the positives:
1) Loved the location. Very close to Seaworld (which is why we initially chose it) and the beach. Not too far from downtown and quick access to I-8 and I-5.
2) Loved the grounds - they were VERY well kept and my wife loved the smell.
3) Liked the restaurants (we had breakfasts at the Pearl and dinners at the Firefly) . The dinners were a little pricy but the food was pretty good.
4) Staff was very helpful and responsive. The housekeeping and the engineer (see below) came very quickly when called.
5) The pool (we only used the one on the west side) was very nice; our son loved it.
6) The rooms were neat but small. With two queen beds there was barely enough room for the three of us. The bathroom did have two sinks along with the fridge and microwave.
We did have a few problems.
1) The electronic lock on our door malfunctioned one night at just about the worst possible time (9 pm after dinner with a cranky four year old and outside temperatures dropping). I went to the hotel lobby where I was given two new key cards neither of which worked. The engineer came and replaced the batteries (I think - not sure exactly what he did) and got us in the door. However, it did the same thing the next morning and the entire lock had to be replaced. My parents, two doors down from us, had the same problem with their lock although it did not require replacing the lock.
2) We went through towels quickly (we went to the pool twice a day) but the staff was good about providing extras.
3) The night before checkout I used the computer in the lobby to check in for our flights. I had to pay a baggage fee and used a credit card to do so. It is a card I use rarely (the last time was six weeks prior) and the very next day someone tried to buy $430 worth of stuff from Walmart with it. Could have been coincidence but seems unlikely.
4) Fitness area was off-site and involved a drive. There was a very nice path along the bay to run and bike on.

New sections provide great view of the bay. Rooms are nice and were well maintained. Staff was friendly and helpful. Location is great. We visited Old Town, museums in Balboa Park, Seaport Village and downtown area. This is our second stay at The Dana and we would recommend it.

I have definately stayed in much nicer, more comfy places. However, it served its purpose I wasnt looking for luxury this weekend I was celebrating my bday w/ friends and just needed a place to crash..... My biggest complaint would have to be the attitude of the staff... definately NOT very welcoming or friendly!!!!!! I got a very rude call to my room at 10:53 reminding me that my checkout was at 11am... the lady could have just said hey its almost 11 get the hell out.

Had to ask for clean towels everyday. 2 nights with loud music and people hitting walls and partying until 4:00 a. m. The room was dirty and even had dirty bedding that we did'nt use. The bed was like sleeping on concrete, very low grade bed. We were given 1 roll of toilet paper for 5 days. This is something that should be stocked in the room daily. It was a bad experience. I will never suggest this place to anyone!!!!

This place was not as good as a Motel 6. Outside looks like it has been under connection for years. No lamps for reading in room. TV was very high on a shelf and no remote control. Place was noisy. Beds and pillows not comfortable. It sure wasn't worth the $100 a nite.
