Palm Springs
Palm Springs is a resort city in the California desert.
During the 1950s and 1960s, Hollywood movie stars flocked to Palm Springs
hotels in droves putting the city on the map. Nowadays, the area offers
entertainment for all ages, although the most common visitors are retirees.
Palm Springs offers a wealth of indoor and outdoor activities. Known for its
hiking, mid-century modern architecture, stunning natural beauty and sparkling
pools, Palm Springs has the perfect blend of outdoor activities and casual
relaxation.
While visiting Palm Springs hotels, make sure to explore
Joshua Tree National Park. This desert
park is a great day trip to take while in Palm Springs and you can get there in
less than an hour by going north on route 62. Take a minimum of four hours to
do the loop from the north through the south of the park. Camping is allowed as
well as rock climbing. You can also visit the mountain resort of Idyllwild. Approximately 45 minutes away on the beautiful
Palms to Pines highway, it can also be reached by a scenic 10 mile hike from
the top of the Palm Springs Tramway.

While I do miss the Agua room restaurant at the Spa hotel, the restaurants at the casino across the street more than make up for it. the Steakhouse is one of the best in town.
The pool area is past it's prime, but the friendly vibe of the pool bar makes up for it.
The hotel is far enough from the main drag to avoid the crowds and noise, but close enough that it is an easy walk.

Excellent Resort - Perfect for a Wedding
-
ATLVacationist
- Mar 28, 2012
The Riviera was excellent. We stayed there this past weekend for a wedding, which was being held on-site. From the food and cocktails to the rooms (The beds were extremely comfortable) and the full resort's decor, it all screams luxury with a fun vibe. I really don't have anything negative at all to say about it.
For the event capabilities, I'd also say that the Riviera is top notch. The wedding we attended was stylish, fun and an over-all excellent experience.

We loved the Zoso--great location, comfortable bed, spacious. WiFi didn't work the first night but was fine for the next two. Only three stories so it was curious how slow the elevator was (and it appeared that only one of the two elevators worked). Great service.

Spend six nights March/April 2012. Great central location in Palm Springs - walk to restaurants, bars, casino, shopping etc. Suites were huge (I was in a one-bedroom). Dated decor, but clean (and aside from a nasty carpet patch job in the living room they were in good shape).
Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Note: Internet assess is only available in the lobby, and they have a daily resort fee of about $10 (unfortunately, this seems to be an industry-wide trend).

Palm Springs Birthday weekend

- Oct 10, 2011
This was my wifes 40th birthday weekend. We stayed at Marquis Villas last year and wanted to return there again. The room size and proximity to downtown are great. We did ask to switch rooms once we checked in because when we had stayed there before we got a renovated room, this time we were not given one and the room was much smaller than the room last year. The management was more than happy to help us. We got a renovated room and the larger one we had before. We do look forward to another return trip.

Relaxing, Fun in the Sun

We were there for one night, saturday to sunday, and arrived early and were delighted to hear our room was ready. We dropped our bags and headed straight to the pool with our cooler and drinks (stopped at the ice machine on the way). Used the towels from the room as the front desk was out, but they came around an hour later to replenish. The pool was super chill - no one patrolling and asking you to put your drinks away as long as you're responsible and not obnoxious. We made new friends with some others. Brian, the manager, gave us great tips for the evening so we spent some time out and about. The next day, we were able to get a late check out for a small fee, so we got a second day by the pool - awesome! All in all, the hotel is a little old school, but has had a recently renovated lobby. The restaurant that was there was also renovated, but never reopened so the space is open, and a little out of place. Our room was a king suite, so it was spacious with a separate living area. A little dated, but still spacious and comfortable. Overall, had a great time and would like to go back!

My parents and I stayed at Caliente Tropics Resort for 3 days. Sunday - Wednesday. The rooms were very clean, and exceptionally nice, and comfy for the price of 68$ per night. They allow animals for 25$ per night. It was surprisingly quiet, and the front desk associates were somewhat friendly. The beds were very comfortable. I think it was probably the best sleep I got in a hotel. My only complaint was the pool area. Dirty.. cigarette butts all over the place, trash, and kids every where. Kids over populated the pool. So there is a lot of screaming, running, and splashing, which to me is extremely annoying considering that I am on vacation. Oh, and their WIFI sucked. Over all, very nice place to stay.

Overall, hotel was lovely. Great balcony & view, lovely pool ... lack of free internet in rooms was surprising for a hotel of this caliber, plus cleanliness (cobwebs in corners & dirty carpet) & lack of supplies (we ran out of toilet paper in the middle of the night!) wasn't so good.

My husband and I always stay at this hotel when we come to Palm Springs for golf. The views out the balconies on every room are incredible. Every room overlooks the pool, hot tub, and barcecue/lounging area. It is a nice quiet hotel...at least while we have stayed there. Good location for scenic walks. We are gone most of the day golfing, so we don't need all the extra amenities with some hotels. Finally, the only complaint I have is that the showers are not great - water pressure, sudden dramatic temperature surges hot/cold, etc...

I bring my own connection but, if I am staying there - at least partially - because of internet access, it should be working.

Old and beat up but its was okay.

It was a good price but it was just a beat up old hotel. Shower curtain kept falling, sink was clogged, bed was rock hard. If you need somewhere cheap to stay at last minute and don't mind not having lots of comfort, then this place is fine. Just don't expect much and only plan on being there for sleeping and nothing else.

We stayed for our anniversary and had a very pleasant stay. It was quiet and restful and central to lots of attractions. The staff was extremely helpful and attentive. Pet friendly accomadations are not always easy to find but the Plaza made our "fur babies" feel right at home too! They had a list of resturants with patios that welcomed our dogs as well as a list of the dog parks, which by the way, are great! There was fresh hot coffee each morning. The suite we stayed in was comfortable and spacious with patios outside both our living room and bedroom. It is located off the main highway so it is quiet with no traffic noise. We were really impressed with how spotlessly clean our rooms were. The grounds are beautiful. The hotel is older but very well maintained. The only thing that disappointed us was that there were no "adult hours" for the pool. There were always a group of children splashing in the pools so we did not get to enjoy some quiet time by the pool; however, we would love to stay again in the future.

Experience the genuine romantic charm of The Alcazar Palm Springs, an intimate Spanish Colonial boutique hotel, ideally situated where the Uptown Art and Design Gallery District and downtown Palm Springs meet. This vibrant area is lined with antique shops, art galleries, boutiques, restaurants and the spectacular Spa Casino. Inside the privately gated grounds, guests can relax in one of thirty-two uniquely appointed guest rooms and suites - all hand painted to reflect the adobe construction style of old Palm Springs. Many of the rooms have their own fireplace, private terrace, and/or in-room Jacuzzi. Alcazar Palm Springs guests can choose between two groupings of rooms - POOLSIDE ROOMS nestled around the chlorine-free saline swimming pool and Jacuzzi, and the SAN JACINTO ROOMS, featuring breathtaking views of the towering adjacent mountains. Either way, guests can find true relaxation in The Trees serene inner courtyard, complimented by lush landscaping, colorful inlaid stone tables, trickling fountains, cooling misters, soft music, comfortable loungers, and giant canvas umbrellas. The Alcazar Palm Springs embodies the best of Palm Springs past and future ... a time and place to relax and enjoy life at your own pace. Whether your trip to Palm Springs is for a week of adventure, a quiet romantic getaway, or a weekend of golf, you can ... The Alcazar Palm Springs was originally built in the 1950s on the grounds of a former clinic owned by Dr. Pepper not the same as the soft drink. Today - the only remains of the original hotel are the fireplace and old wooden beams in Room 37 - the One Bedroom Suite. You can see the rock chimney from the pool. A large pepper tree, from which the hotel got its name, stood for many years in the west courtyard area where the fountain is now. By the late 1990s, the hotel had fallen into disrepair. It was essentially demolished in 2000, reopening in 2003 in its present form.

The hotel was great. The staff was friendly and courteous. The Manager (a little creepy). But all in all it was a nice place to stay. Cable TV and Pay Preview would have been nice to have. My boyfriend and I thnk that should be added.
I highly reccomend the bar area Birba.
As far as the restaurant... Cheeky's, NO WAY!!!! These were the unhappiest set of employees I have ever had to deal with. Not one waitress or waiter knew how to smile. They were rude, acted like they did not want ot be there. There are so many other places in Plam Springs to eat. Please choose another restaurant to eat at.

My husband and I prefer small boutique hotels whenever possible because they're unique, have friendlier staff, and good locations. The Alcazar is a winner on all counts. Our room was huge, The hotel's decor was inventive and striking - all white with black accents. A heated salt water pool, whirlpool, and lovely sitting area was just steps from our door. The Hotel offered the complimentary use of bikes, and was adjacent to one of our favorite restaurants, Cheekies. The manager was welcoming and even told my husband how to build a duplicate of one of the water features on the property when we both admired it. I would highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed there for a night and had a wonderful time. This hotel is not like a typical hotel. Each room is a sectioned off unit (one floor) and has a patio. We liked our room, which is at the back and not facing the pool, as we had more privacy while having breakfast at the patio looking out the mountains.
Overall, very satisfying stay. Great for those looking for some quiet and relaxing time.

I came to Palm Springs just to get away from Long Beach for the holiday weekend. The staff was wonderful very friendly [...] the manager went out of his way to see that my stay was great and [...] the night clerk was very friendly. I don't understand why the rooms are not cleaned everyday there is an extra charge for that this would be the only complaint I had about the hotel. Over all it was a great weekend stay.

Great Personality - Just a Couple Annoyances
-
East Coast Mid20s Couple
- Feb 15, 2012
The personality of this place is really fun (look at the website, and you'll figure out what they're going for in 2 seconds), and it was totally sincere. The rooms were comfortable and clean - not big or anything, but fine for my tastes. The restaurant onsite was awesome - great drinks, great food. The Pool and hot-tub were huge, and other people staying there were the folks you like to meet on trips. Bingo night was a totally memorable experience - Linda, the MC is an ex-broadway star, who couldn't be more perfect for her role in it.
My two concerns: (1) A $20/day Resort Fee that they didn't show in any pricing on their site or anywhere else, just tacked on once you get there. (2) The staff was great and very friendly, but for just a couple members of the staff (mainly one waiter in the restaurant), that attitude started to creep on arrogance, which is really a shame because that personality really defines the place and gives Ace its personality.
All that said - I would recommend the place in a heartbeat and would go back there if I'm back in Palm Springs.

A great drive to Palm Springs and was really made to feel welcome at the Ace by the friendly staff : )
Great room and very relaxed easy going atmosphere and lots of good music playing.
Went to the bar that evening and a great bartender made fantastic drinks and helped us plan our few days of hiking and gave us recommendations for places to eat!
There is a $20 a day resort fee on top that you have to pay for parking , pool , gym etc but well worth it and the facilities are really great even a ping-pong table!!!!
Go off-peak and relax or go at the weekend and party its your choice!

It is a nicely renovated old hotel located in downtown Palm Springs. It has a beautiful courtyard with a swimming pool and an outdoor fireplace. The room was nice and the bedding was great. My wife is considering tracing down the vendor. Free parking is available around the hotel. The staff has been very helpful during our stay. The hotel has a character that is just not there in large chain hotels. The restaurant is pricey, but it overlooks the courtyard.

Palm Springs is feeling refreshed. To know Palm Springs is to love it. Whether you come for the sun, the spas or the style, there's an undeniable lure to this oasis of desert modern in the Coachella Valley. Now there's new place to lay your head while soaking it all up. The Saguaro opens in February 2012, bringing with it a new sense of design, food and comfort. If you ever needed another reason to escape here, you have one now. Guestrooms and Suites Bright. Light. Colorful. The rooms at the Saguaro immerse you in the desert resort experience that is Palm Springs. Choose your view, mountain, garden courtyard with pool, or city lights. Nearly every room has a balcony or patio and is accented inside and out by the brilliant color of a native Mojave wildflower, creating a visual spectrum of light throughout the grounds. No one perspective is the same. Services and Amenities There are certain standards by which a visit to Palm Springs is judged. Such as pool time and the scenery that goes with it, the quality of architecture and design, and perhaps most importantly, the ability to enjoy the desert landscape and air, preferably with cocktail in hand. By all accounts, the Saguaro has you more than covered.
The hotel charges an $18 per night resort fee to all guests which is collected at check-out. The resort fee includes self parking, WiFi (basic), guest transportation (within 5 miles), daily yoga, and pool access.

Wow... Obviously Didn't Drink Enough
- laurievdb

Wow! That's the best word I can use to discribe the new renovations & name change to the the "Old Holiday Inn Express". The color scheme is like something thaken out of Disney's 1940 Fantasia...
With enough to drink, perhaps you can get past waking up in these obnoxiously decorated rooms! But that isn't going to make up for the poor house keeping, bad paint job and overal inability to get a decent breakfast before 11:00 AM.
With the new decore and name came, came a deep increase in price... for the money stay at the Hilton or someplace closer to down town.

Still have kinks to work out. Room not ready at check-in, hair dryer only blows cold air, only have one cup coffee pod ( for two people? ) and then the next day none. We asked for replacements but none ever came. Paint fumes were very bad in room. Small improvements would make a big difference. Don't be confused by overall high rating as it appears this includes previous years while under Holiday Inn brand. Read reviews since Saguaro opened in February. I hope things change here.
