Nice room, no A/C, but cool at night in 50s. Stayed 3 nights July 14-16. The Inn was right next to Monterey Library so useful for free Internet. There was a Trader Joe's a block await to get good food. Room had refrigerator and microwave. Breakfast was great --cereal, fruit, OJ, grain muffins, yogurt. Fresh cookies put out in afternoon. Highly recommended. We would stay there again.

This hotel was in a great location, just a few minutes from the beach. The hotel was very clean. The sheets were very soft and the bed spread were feather bed spreads. They gave us free movie rentals. We also got free breakfast, which was quite good. The only complaint I have was that we found three spiders in our room during our stay. Other than that, I would recommend this hotel.

A great location for all points around the Monterey Area.
The breakfast was the usual Cereal, Rolls Coffee & Juice. We ate in our room a couple of times due to limited seating in the breakfast area.
The room was very quiet except when the room above flushed the toilet.
The room was our home for a week and was overall very nice.

Room was large and had all the amenities we desired. Good bed, mini fridge, fireplace, very nice bath, second sink outside the bathroom. Room was very clean. Only complaints were there was only one mirror in the room - in the bathroom. There was the second sink, but no mirror for doing hair or makeup. The reception on the flat screen was poor.
Overall we were really comfortable in the room, I would stay there again.

We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights. Great location with access to cannery row shops and restaurants. Room was very comfortable and served as an excellent home base for our day trip to big sur and surrounding areas. Only complaint was the "Resort Fees." I was under the impression I had paid in full and then was charged additional daily fees when I didn't use any of the resort facilities. I think such a fee should be based on actual use of a service; since I didn't gain any benefit from these amenities, I don't think I should have to pay for them. Thanks for a great stay overall though.

The room was nice and clean. We had a fridge, microwave and coffee maker. This made it easy to have a meal in the room rather than going out. We were too busy going back and forth to my niece's wedding to think about going out to eat. The breakfast offered at the motel was excellent.

Everything in this hotel is almost perfect. I love the fact that pets are allowed. The only thing faulty was the hair dryer. It was not working.

My 12 year-old and I stayed here overnight, and we'll definitely come back -- hopefully for a longer stay. We've had plenty of disappointing online-booked hotel experiences in the past, but were pleasantly surprised this time. Comfortable, CLEAN, quiet room in spite of the hotel (and all of Monterey!) being fully booked for the holiday weekend. The pool and jacuzzi were at perfect temperature for the evening and cloudy morning weather -- just wish they could stay open later than 8 pm. Breakfast was decent and well staffed. Located within generous walking distance of Fisherman's Wharf and downtown; a hike to Cannery Row and the aquarium, but possible if you want to avoid parking hassles (and fees).

we had booked a double bed but when we sat in our bed it was Sandy like someone had gone to the beach and the staff didn't change the sheets. We called to complain and they upgraded us to a king bedroom with fireplace. That was a nice gesture and made the trip worthwhile. The room was clean and the decor was nice. We would come back again.

My mom and I only stayed one night, but we really enjoyed staying at the Mariposa. We had a double queen room with fireplace and balcony that was very modern and clean.
The front desk worker was pleasant. He helped us make a best POA for the night and next day and even gave us a coupon for free appetizer at a restaurant.
Our only complaint was the continental breakfast was slightly picked over by the time we got there at 9am.

We have stayed at the Park Crest a number of times in the past. This time there was a marked improvement in the facility. Apparently they have new owners who seem to be doing an excellent job. The rooms were very clean, and the Breakfast (included) was great. Overall I think it is a very good value!

Short walk to Aquarium

As with all the Holiday Inn Expresses we've stayed at, this hotel was clean, in good condition, perfectly adequate, with good staff, decent breakfast and a reasonable rate. Very conveniently located close to the aquarium and lots of restaurants. Our only complaint: the walls were a little thin, so one could hear road traffic and a swinging metal gate on the premises. Worth it anyway.

My bf, our kids and I were looking for a decent place to stay near Cannery Row that a) wasn't going to break the bank, and b) met a minimum with cleanliness and overall appearance. We knew it was only going to be a place to sleep at night, but I'm picky. ;)
Maybe it's because it was recently renovated, but this place was PERFECT. Super clean, room didn't give me the heebie-geebies at all, and I had a great night's sleep. Continental breakfast was pretty good - I think I was more wowed by the pancake machine than anything else, though. hehe.
Overall, probably the best bang for your buck if you want to be within walking distance to the aquarium. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

I stayed 1 night at this motel with my kids. Everything was perfect except the fact that I was on the bottom floor and I heard everything from above. I called the front desk and they must of informed the people on the second floor and the moving stopped. The room was spacious, affordable, and had everything that we were looking for.

The staff were friendly and amenable. The location is good, easy walking distance to downtown Monterey. The rooms could be improved, the decor is old, the bathroom light did not work consistently or the heating. But for the price and location it was ok.

We stayed overnight for the purpose of taking two young grandchildren to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The location was convenient, adequate for our needs, quiet night's sleep. The manager was friendly and helpful.

Hotel was ok and we got what we paid for. The only issues I had was I could hear people flushing their toilets in other rooms and our bath fan was so loud it kept me from wanting to go to the toilet. This is just a pleace to lay your head. Overall this hotel needs some TLC...

This hotel is a great place to stay when visiting the Monterey/Carmel areas. It is on the bay with a lovely little beach that goes all around to the Monterey wharf (3.5 mi) if you are so inclined to walk. It has a nice cafe with excellent food, but be prepared to wait as the service is extremely slow. Rooms are clean. We like the beds because each has 4 fluffy pillows and a great thick comforter. Two down sides to this hotel: You have to pay a daily fee for parking. And, we had trouble getting the room to heat up. Take a sweater and some warm sock just in case.

Good location, within walking distance to the Monterey Fair Grounds. Friendly and helpful staff. The breakfast was good, and the pool was open. Everything was clean and in working condition.
Only downside was the lack of an air conditioner. It got pretty warm in out room and we had no way to cool off besides opening the windows.

The room was very basic. If you are looking to spend time in your room just for sleeping and changing of clothes this is the hotel for you. The staff were very nice and treated us with respect.

This hotel was an older property, and the room had a strong disinfectant odor when first opening the door to our room, but the staff was friendly, the hotel room and lounge were very clean. It was also a very large room. We were very comfortable and the location was convenient to all of Monterey Bay--and the price cannot be beat.

Front desk was friendly and helpful! Free breakfast snacks in tr morning. Waited for us on a late check-in. I often stay at westin, Hilton, and other nice hotels. You get what you pay for. I did not spend much time in room and had extra money for great food and wine!

Great experience! Quiet, convenient, and friendly staff. My wife and I have payed ALOT more for rooms in Monterey and this place was quieter and cleaner than some 3 and 4 star accomadations. The rooms are on the smaller side but it was perfect for our needs.

Comfortable Place in Monterey

The bed mattress was the most comfortable that I have slept on. This was one of the reasons for returning to the Portola. Service was very good. Only complaint I have is the price value of the movies offered, I paid $17.99 to watch an average box office movie (the "Traveler") and the selection was very very limited. The pool was not heated and the water temperature was cold. Nice English pub a block away called the Crown and Anchor. Decent selection of ales on tap and good fish and chips.

Every staff member was super friendly and helpful. Our room was elegant and comfortable. We knew we would be arriving late so we got a cannery row view room. The view was fine but I think next time we will splurge for oceanside. We will definately be going back to this hotel.

The hotel is extremely close to the wharf and canary row so that was great! However, we had the unfortunate luck of the water pipes bursting so we didn't have any water pressure. It wasn't even an option to think about showering in cold water because there was none. The staff did offer to let us shower at the spa but it was a cold walk to get to the shower because it is an outdoor hotel.

Only passing through Monterey, from Northern Cal down to Southern Cal, we needed a stopover that was easy to get to, close to restaurants and local attractions, and at a fair price. The hotel restaurant had a nice menu for our late dinner, WiFi, and very pleasant help at the front desk.

Great hotel, and friendly staff! The room itself was in a separate unit from the lobby/concierge, but that all the more made it more private. Great location from Cannery Row and downtown Monterey (only 2 miles!) and very clean (especially clean, spacious bathroom!). More like a fancy motel/inn than a hotel though.

We booked one night but ended up staying 3. There are a lot of things to see and do in Monterey. We paid $10 extra to book a king suite and the extra room and couch was worth it. Having a sink both inside and outside the bathroom was a pleasant bonus. Along a main road in town but no traffic or noise at night, and we never heard our neighbours. The bed was very comfortable. The staff was excellent and very friendly.

I was there on business and worked all day.
The motel was ok very thin walls and you could hear everything in the adjoining rooms.
I've stayed in better motels, much better for the price.
