Wow, not what was advertised

I have never felt compelled to review a motel before but after our stay here, I need to speak out. Checked in this afternoon and the place did not look like the pictures on line. We reserved a "2 Queen Room" but were given a room with 2 full beds. The front desk clerk argued that all their rooms had queens. She gave me another room which also had 2 queens and was horribly dirty and stinky. The 3rd room we were given had queens but again was very dirty. I hate to take my shoes off because the carpet is so dirty. The toilet is cracked, light bulbs are burned out. Yes we only paid $58 plus tax, but I'm not sure it was worth it.

I got this room for $100 a night so it was a great value. No free internet or breakfast, but I can't expect them to lose money.

The staff was very accommodating, and gave us a room on the pool deck with a sliding door. They did this because I am a smoker and the rooms are not smoking, made it very convenient for us. My only complaint was that there was no microwave in the room.

I was only in Modesto for one night on business. The motel was average, nothing special and I have to wonder about the location when there is a $150.00 refundable security deposit. Never before did I have to pay a security deposit at a motel.

SpringHill is a great place to stay. The rooms are very comfortable, nicely decorated and are spacious. The bed is divided off from the seating area. The bed and bedding are very comfortable. Their are little touches like a light on the lightswitch near the bed, a great shower head in the spacious bathroom, full length mirror in addition to two other mirrors, a bar sink and cabinets with fridge and microwave, lots of lighting. The lobby is large and very comfortably furnished. The breakfast is one of the best. We had eggs benedict, melon balls and a good cup of coffee. There was a lot more to choose from. We would definitely return to SpringHill when in the area.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights. The beds were extremely comfortable. There was free wireless internet, and the room was large with plenty of furniture and room to move around. It is VERY well located, near shopping and restaurants (Black Bear Diner is just a few steps away). Friendly staff.
Only thing missing was a some fruit on the counter or a continental breakfast, but tea and coffee were available in the lobby.

they got the reservation wrong, wrong type of room and needed to be handicap. the room they moved us to was and ugly location. the food was good staff were good. I wasn't very happy and may not stay there again.

It's really a recycled motel

The staff were friendly and tried to please. The continental breakfast was okay, but the juice machine was out of order with no attempt to provide juice. The room was clean and well-equipped -- coffeemaker, microwave, refrigerator, working TV and DVD player. I'd stay again if I had to. A definite minus: It's right on Hwy 99 and the traffic is pretty loud even at 3-4 in the morning. I was surprised that a Howard Johnson's wasn't one of those newer express hotels. But I don't really mind old motels because parking right in front of the room is always convenient. Oh: good Internet WiFi.

I felt that it was a nice place to stay. The room was clean and everything in it worked fine. The staff is couritous and the continental breakfast was good. It is very close to the freeway. I could hear it from inside my room. It did not bother me, but you may want to ask for a room in the back if that would bother you. There is a Denny's nearby as well as other places to eat. I would stay there again.

My experience at this hotel was okay. I guess, you get what you pay for. The location was convenient, right off he freeway and close to our family. As sson as we got there i was not impressed by the smell of the room. Even though I requested a non-smoking bedroom, the room smelled like smoke. My kids, right away noticed it also. I also booked two other rooms for family members and only one other room smelled the same. The free breakfast was okay, had a small variety but everything my kids eat. From cereal to self made waffles and boiled eggs and toast. The best of It all was the sandwich shop right next door... We were there twice in one hour. We stopped by and tried their club sandwich which was amazing!!! Once we got to our room and tried it, we called and re-ordered it for dinner since they closed at 5:00 on Saturday. All in all, it was good for the price!

This hotel came well recommended by people in Modesto and it really wasn't any more expensive than the others when you consider a nice breakfast was included every morning and snacks with drinks every evening. Very clean and a very nice staff who were happy to help with any questions. USA Today was deliviered to the room each morning. Modesto lays along Highway 99 and the hotel is only a block off of the highway.

The Cigarette Smoke Smell was Unbearable!

I was miserable because of the cigarette smoke smell on our NONSMOKING floor! The smell lingered throughout the entire hotel. It was awful and felt dirty to have the smell so intense. I couldn't sleep, I couldn't concentrate, terrible stay!
The only upside was that the free breakfast was decent. But, I will NEVER go back there again. Yuck!!!

i was booked for a non smoking room. and when i walked in, i noticed the floor next to the bathroom was a lil wet. i tried to shrug it off (yes it was kinda gross but i didnt want to complain because i was tired). i unpacked everything and went into the bathroom, to my surprise, the entire bathroom was flooded!! it appeared that someone had smoked in the NON SMOKING bathroom. But no worries, i had my room switched, but i wished they couldve upgraded me haha. it was quiet, which i liked very much. i was there for business so i wasnt in my room much, and thats what it seemed perfect for, if you dont mind the outdated elevators and unflush paint. the bed was comfy! it was a good size for myself. places to eat are very close. freeway is RIGHT THERE. i'd like to give this hotel a 2.3

Our elderly parents changed their trip and without checking in advance showed up at the motel a day early. [...] A previous rater mentioned not feeling safe. The room style is typical old motel with one large window in the front. Security--while we were there--didn't seem like an issue although i'd not leave a bunch of electronics in my room if i was going out!The assistant manager was pleasant and helpful but new at her job. The continental breakfast a small cup of juice, coffee/tea, and one cellophane wrapped danish per guest. . .and yes, free.The pool was locked when we arrived and the heavy algae did not make it look inviting. A bit later there were kids swimming and someone told us they'd "shocked" the pool water with acid so it was okay for swimming. I decided not to try it. . .This is a very old motel which someone is trying to upgrade. The interior walls, freshly painted, are bumpy like the outside of a stuccoed house. The bathrooms have new mirrors, vanities, sinks, and faucets but the floors are so awful we didn't want to walk on them barefoot. The shower stall had huge cracks in the bottom.The small refrigerator was clean but did not have a thermostat and did not seem very cold. The bed was large and firm, the sheets were a bit wrinkled but looked clean. Two people get two bath towels, two wash cloths, and two soaps (plus a bath mat we put on the shower floor) but no shampoo and only one hand towel. This wasn't an error, it was done this way for a total of five days (between two rooms).There was no recliner (as stated in the ad on [...]) and the one upholstered chair was worse than something you could buy at a thrift store. It had a big hole in the front and dirty white padding coming out. The night life -- after all the noisy kids drift off to sleep -- is pretty active and may keep some people awake. Luckily, the motel was just minutes from my aunt's home where we spent most of our time.

Priced right, clean rooms with friendly staff, but I did not feel safe. No screens on windows, and doors were paper thin. I proped a chair up to the door while I slept because across the parking lot there was a very loud party with music. I believe the hotel is behind a bar. If you are traveling with someone and just need a place to sleep, but you plan to move on to your destiny, then this might work for you. For me, it was not worth the lack of sleep.Pool was well maintenanced. Price was best thing about this hotel.

To me along with being clean and convenient, friendly staff is just as important. And you wil find friendly, courteous staff at this facility.

The good, bad and ugly

I was in town to go to a birthday party in Riverbank the location was convient. The room had only one washcloth and one towel. There was no coffee maker. Coffee is offered in the morning in the office. The coffee was very weak and there were no lids to place over the cups,by the time you returned to your room the coffee had spilled out. The room overtop of the room i was in i could hear walking in the wee hours of the morning.

Hotel was one of few in Modesto that allowed pets. Located close to hospital, so sirens throughout day and night. Otherwise fine.

When we frist got there our room wasn't ready. Transfer to another room. There were a few loud rooms next to my room. So I requested to move to another room. The desk clerk was very nice and helpful. He did talk to the people that were being disruptive. When I got to my new room HBO wasn't working, there was no iron, it was missing the coffee pot to the coffe maker, and the dresser was missing a drawer. The clerk did get comcast out to fix the HBO issue. He did the best he could and was helpful. But I have stayed places nicer for the same price.
