Scottsdale is home to many galleries, high quality resorts,
and golf courses. High end shopping destinations are one of the primary
attractions of the city, and the Fashion Square Mall near downtown Scottsdale
is one of the biggest malls in the United States. The extensive galleries to
the west of the downtown also offer upscale shopping and strolling. The
galleries in this area display works both from local artists and from around
the world.
The valley of the sun has over 130 miles of canals, most of
which were built in the last 100 years to provide water for the irrigation of
farm land. Now that the valley is much less agrarian, the canals are primarily
used to carry away storm water. One can take in the beautiful desert scenery
and fresh air while strolling along them. They provide walkers, joggers, and
bikers with a nice refuge from traffic.
Downtown Scottsdale, and the neighborhood south of downtown,
are each served by a trolley. Both are free and usually come by every 15-20
minutes while running. In the summer however, outdoor activities are usually
far more pleasant in the early morning when it is still cool. Because the
temperatures in the desert swing so much between night and day, morning
temperatures can be quite pleasant even during the height of the summer.

Nice, but needs help

Rooms are large and well designed, nice setup. Kitchen has dishes, pans, etc. but no paper towels or dishclothes. No ramp or elevator to third floor rooms, dragging luggage up was no fun although staff did volunteer to help with that. Comfortable room, safe area, nice amenities. Older place, but rooms have been remodeled. Our bathroom wasn't thoroughly cleaned and dinette table wasn't washed, but otherwise looked clean. Location and price were reasonable for that area. Maintenance staff was working on sprucing up every day we were there.

I thought this hotel was great. There were only a couple of minor "hic-ups". The room they originally put me in was a regular king room, on the bottom floor. It was tiny and almost underground. I upgraded to a King suite on the top floor and LOVED it! I wish I could have stayed longer. Everything was clean, and all of the staff was very friendly adn helpful. I liked their transport service as I didint know the area and I wanted to have a drink without worrying about driving. There is some stuff to see and do close by, but if you want a casino, its about a half hour drive.

Great location for Old Town Scottsdale

The rooms were very nice and the grounds were very clean. We were very disappointed about the breakfast. When we went down for breakfast, there were no plates. So we went to our room to get our own plates. When we returned, there was not food left, so we had to go elsewhere for breakfast.

With 54 rooms , only two years old, the Sundial is perfectly located, has friendly and personal service and is reasonable in price. A breakfast in the morning and free coffee all day help make up for not having a restaurant on premises. Basically at the intersection of the two main roads in town, you can walk to restaurants or Fashion Square , and drive anywhere else. We are not golfers, just art aficionados and sightseers, so a huge resort would have been a waste of money. I'd recommend this hotel to my friends, even the picky ones.

The resort was great! Everything was clean, staff friendly, location was also great...and quiet. The only thing about the resort that was not the best was that we were not there to gamble and the resort has a casino in which one had to walk through everytime you entered or exited the resort...smokey and gross. The only other thing about our stay that I would have a "complaint" about is that our thermostat didn't work and we had to call maintenance 3 times on 3 separate days before the faulty part was replaced. We had no issues with the thermostat after that. Other than those two inconveniences, our stay was great!!

Have to say, was very pleasantly surprised at how nice the hotel room was. Well-sized, very comfortably and nicely furnished and a super bathroom on a par with Ritz Carlton and 4 Season Rooms I have stayed in. Was in Scottsdale for a quick trip to visit extended family and while not exactly central within Scottsdale, it's a very easy and short drive to the thick of things. Well Placed to go to Phoenix, Chandler, Tempe and even Carefree.
The Staff were all extraordinarily nice and helpful from the chambermaids to the valet.
If there is any downside to this resort, it is that you must go through a very smoky casino to enter the hotel ( which is itself entirely smoke-free, thankfully), but otherwise this was a great stay in a lovely hotel property.
One little tip...neither the resort or hotel seems to register for GPS directions, but the Talking Stick Golf Club does....

Nice Spot But Attenion to Detail Needed

The Clarion is nicely located in Scottsdale, close to lots to do. The hotel's restaurant is nice. The food was well prepared. The room was unacceptably noisy, with a horrible sounding air conditioner that was ineffective. The carpet and bath tub were stained. At 9:00 pm the first night someone with a sledge hammer was pounding on a concrete tire stop in the parking lot just down from our room. The racket, while not as bad as the air conditioner was horrific.

We booked this hotel specifically for several reasons. The locations, the shuttle service, the refrigerator in the room and the price. When we checked in, we found out that in fact the rooms do not have fridges and that you have to pay extra for them, despite their website stating they do offer fridges. They are $10 more, but I refused the fee and they ended up supplying the fridge anyway. The shuttle wasn't running because the employee didn't show up to work. We eventually talked them into having the maintenance guy to drive us to our destination. If we had had to get a taxi or pay for the fridge, it would have cost us way more to stay here than it was worth.

The Scottsdale Resort and Athletic club featured a comfortable room, good size bath and easy access to a fairly decent, large pool and hot tub. Very quiet atmosphere in this out of the way resort. Did not try the tennis rackets court (lots of them) or the health club due to short stay and visiting our son at ASU-but all was nearby. Room air was blowing hard though - cooled off nice though. Close proximity to restaurants and shops = very convenient. Good service and welcoming reception! Would stay there again. Sparky Bob

Exterior was a little dated but the room was very nice. They upgraded us and the room had a kitchen with refrigerator, dishwasher, etc, a dining area, nice living area, patio with table and chairs. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was large with a jetted tub. Large pool and the athletic club was also very nice. Not sure what the regular rooms are like but ours was great.

Very impressed that room had fridge and microwave. I did have issues not in your control ~ around 2AM someone banging on room door next to mine, and the walls must be thin because I could hear them talking every AM. The coffee maker cord is pulled so tight it was hard to pull it away from the wall so you could pour the water into it. I was suprised on check in to have to leave a $100 incidental depost and have now have to wait for my "refund." But it's a great value stay for Scottsdale

The hotel appearance was very nice along with the location. However the refrigerator was broken so we had to make many trips to the ice machine. And the iron was also broken. We also did not have the greatest view and they did not have shuttle service. The visit was nice either way…

My husband and I came from Tucson and stayed there for 2 nights and had the best time ever! We went to see the DimondBacks vs White Sox on Father's day. One of the hotel worker told us about a resturant that was having a Father's day brunch for free! She didn't even knows us but was soooo friendly. In fact the whole staff were very helpful. I hope to stay there each time we come to town.

First trip to Arizona and went mainly to watch some spring training baseball. Hotel is within easy walking distance of the SF Giants training facility and Scottsdale Stadium (Fantastic !)
Hotel is very clean, nice looking, great pool and breakfast. In addition I give all the staff 5 stars (especially the help desk) as they answered all my questions, provided good tips on restaurants and did it all with a smile.
I definately plan to return to Arizona and will surely stay at The Hilton Garden Inn in Scottsdale Old Town

Very nice, clean hotel. Nice open "courtyard" area with pool, hot tub, trees and grass (in Phoenix!).
I especially liked that our room had two doors, one open to the parking lot and another open to the courtyard.

the bungalow was a single room with a patio door as an entry door. The room has a fridge, microwave, flat screen TV, a desk with two chairs, two armchairs, iron board with an iron, a coffee maker (12 cups). The bathroom was clean. Shower head was a little low (and I'm not a tall guy: 5'7), but that was not a big deal. The glass patio door opens to a nice sort-of private patio with a patio table and two chairs. Bushes around serve as a green fence. Overall, I was really pleased.

Upon first impression, I thought this would be a "motel 6" kind of experience. I was very pleasantly surprised. Rooms were clean, beds comfy, with extra touches here and there that really added up to a very pleasant stay. Staff was friendly and accomodating. Nice. Planning to stay here again. Great value.

Big Suite for Relatively Small Bucks

We booked this hotel for a one-night stay at the start of a vacation, and liked it so much that we came back at the end of a week and stayed two more days. It is a true suite hotel -- the bedroom, which was generously sized, had a very comfortable King bed with nice linens, a sink and counter with a mirror, a blow dryer and nice lighting, a chair, desk, and the other usual hotel room features.
The door from the bedroom led to a short hallway, off of which was the bathroom, which was just a typical bathroom, and then the hallway opened out into a small living room with loveseat (sofa bed) and armchair, round table with four chairs, kitchenette with a sink, microwave, and mini-fridge, counter and bar area, and another large TV. This living room featured glass doors with louvered wooden shades that could be adjusted for privacy or light, or even swung completely open. The living room furniture was quite comfortable, and the lighting good for reading -- they even provided a powerstrip for convenience, and a cable for those who didn't want to use the wi-fi.
The only room downside was that the mini-fridge did a very poor job. I finally put a can of soda into the "freezer" area, which was the only way it seemed to actually chill anything.
The included breakfast was served in a large freestanding building in one courtyard. Eggs (scrambled, or easy over,) bacon (ok, but not great), sausage (quite good), hash browns (pretty good), toast or English muffins (they do the toasting, but were happy to re-toast the English muffin to my desired dark toast), french toast, (didn't try), bananas, grapefruit slices, and mini-muffins (mediocre at best), a couple of cold cereals, and packets of oatmeal and cream of wheat seemed to be the food offerings, along with juice and coffee (okay but not great... many of the Arizona hotels have gone to the machines that make coffee from instant mix on demand, and this is one of them.) I don't think that the menu changes very often; it was the same each of the days we were there.
The evening cocktail reception was the one weak (literally) point in the stay. The other half of the breakfast room building is opened up, and a "bartender" serves small plastic cups of beer, and a handful of very weak and poorly flavored mixed drinks, and a few sodas. Everything seems to come out of one of those gizmos where the bartender just needs to press a button, and one thing flavors the next. Popcorn was the only food, and overall this "cocktail hour" was eminently skippable. Kids did seem to like the arcade games in the area, and there are pool tables. I'd much rather gotten a voucher for one decent drink or beer.
The rooms are all organized around two different patios, each with swimming pool, hot tub, and some lovely fountains, one of which was visible from the living room area of our room ...quite pleasant.
Staff were very nice and helpful, and the main lobby is quite attractive. Parking was easy.
The resort itself is on the main road, about 3/4 of a mile north of Old Town Scottsdale, and even closer to the fashion mall.
Overall, we were quite pleased at the accommodations and the value, and would happily stay there again...though we'll skip the "cocktail" hour next time.
We really enjoyed the separate living room and the comfortable furniture...made it easy for one of us to sleep while the other read or watched TV, and the ability to open the shutters allowed for very pleasant natural light in the room.

Great location, but......

Great location close to major cross roads and old town Scottsdale. The rooms were just recently renovated and they didn't do a very good job. Pool was nice and so was bar and lobby. Price was too much for the room it wasn't a four star, but had a great location.

Great Stay with Minor Negatives

This was an overall great hotel and would definitely stay again! Great Service and Staff. They offered a great room upgrade when we checked in at no extra cost. Pool was excellent, along with food and drinks! The location was perfect too! Great for going out to dinner, drinks, shopping, etc. The free driving service was very helpful as well!
The only downfall for our stay was the room location. The room itself was great but we were located on an end unit next to hall entrance door. In the morning when we wanted to sleep in after a late night out, it was VERY noisy with the housekeeping staff slamming the entrance door open and close. The housekeeping staff also spoke VERY loudly to one another and made for a very difficult time to sleep in.
Other than that, it was a great time!

Overall, it was a great hotel. We did go during the hotest week of the year, so I can only complain so much about the AC. Still, my unit could only be set to 68 degrees, but it never got there (even over night). When it did occasionally reach 69, there is no way it was accurate. We brought our own fan from home and it helped a little, and I know the hotel has loner fans for guests, too.
I travel A LOT for work, so I am used to bigger rooms. However, the idea is not spend all your time in the room, so there is more than enough room to get comfy when sleeping.
The food at the hotel is VERY pricy (17 dollars for 2 eggs, 2 pieces of toast, and 4 slices of bacon). There is no usable fridge in the room (the fridge is the honor bar), so bring a cooler or plan to eat at subway if you are on a budget.
The staff is VERY nice, especially Andrew in the bar. Great guy, and overall great staff across the board. No regrests, would definitely stay again.

It was our intent to just lay out by the pool. The hotel was having a pool party that was fantastic. The hotel guest should be given priority to the lounge chairs at the pool and It would have been nice to have a few more large pool umbrellas, it was a very sunny warm day. This trip was really good one of our best.

the location was great walking distance to food,drink,and stores .hotel run down staff was asleep at desk one day .only one person was out going and freindly everyday after the room was cleaned the key card did not work had to go back to desk to reprogram card and then still sometimes only one card would work. over all vist was 5 for location with the city and 2 on room and staff the only one i would rate a 4 was the cont.breakfast staff was freindly and had room clean and full

Wonderful heated pool.
A rarity. I enjoyed swimming very much.
Treadmill should be updated. A little bit noisy.
And there is no air conditioning in exercise room, nor fan. Could be stuffy.
All else is well.

I stayed at the hotel for three nights for business. It looked like a small 2~3 star hotel, but inside is solid 3 star, 4 star hotel maybe. The room and bathroom were clean and complimentary hot breakfast was pretty good. Location is vey quite, even too quite, but it is not far from everything. Nice experience and would stay there again if I can.

I was at the Homewood Suites for a visit to the Mayo Clinic. Loved the breakfasts/dinners and
the ability to keep all my meds in a refrigerator
along with a few food items. The pool was Clean
w/adequate towels and lounging chairs! The motel
is centrally located to great restaurants and
the Scottsdale Mall. It's a home away from home!

Wireless Internet available at a charge of $6.95 USD a day. All of our resorts require a major credit card deposit for all guests. No cash or debit cards allowed. The deposit will be $100 USD and shall be returned when the rooms have been inspected and no damage has been done or items are not missing. If there is damage or items missing, the guest will be charged. Please note that this property does not have daily maid service.No pets allowed.

great value, friendly staff, average amenities, but for the price, lots of room, full kitchens and nice comfy furniture and bedding. close to all scottsdale has to offer, great price, nice parking lots, porches with outdoor furniture. kitchen has full size fridge, utensils, china, wine glasses even. even full roll of paper towels and a dose of laundry detergent for full size washer/dryer. could have paid twice or more for half or less the stuff in room, true condo living at less than hotel prices! will return. convenient to my business plans and golf! no kids this trip, but i could have brought them with ease and had plenty of room and fun.
