Scottsdale is home to many galleries, high quality resorts,
and golf courses. High end shopping destinations are one of the primary
attractions of the city, and the Fashion Square Mall near downtown Scottsdale
is one of the biggest malls in the United States. The extensive galleries to
the west of the downtown also offer upscale shopping and strolling. The
galleries in this area display works both from local artists and from around
the world.
The valley of the sun has over 130 miles of canals, most of
which were built in the last 100 years to provide water for the irrigation of
farm land. Now that the valley is much less agrarian, the canals are primarily
used to carry away storm water. One can take in the beautiful desert scenery
and fresh air while strolling along them. They provide walkers, joggers, and
bikers with a nice refuge from traffic.
Downtown Scottsdale, and the neighborhood south of downtown,
are each served by a trolley. Both are free and usually come by every 15-20
minutes while running. In the summer however, outdoor activities are usually
far more pleasant in the early morning when it is still cool. Because the
temperatures in the desert swing so much between night and day, morning
temperatures can be quite pleasant even during the height of the summer.

Nice Spot But Attenion to Detail Needed

The Clarion is nicely located in Scottsdale, close to lots to do. The hotel's restaurant is nice. The food was well prepared. The room was unacceptably noisy, with a horrible sounding air conditioner that was ineffective. The carpet and bath tub were stained. At 9:00 pm the first night someone with a sledge hammer was pounding on a concrete tire stop in the parking lot just down from our room. The racket, while not as bad as the air conditioner was horrific.

We booked this hotel specifically for several reasons. The locations, the shuttle service, the refrigerator in the room and the price. When we checked in, we found out that in fact the rooms do not have fridges and that you have to pay extra for them, despite their website stating they do offer fridges. They are $10 more, but I refused the fee and they ended up supplying the fridge anyway. The shuttle wasn't running because the employee didn't show up to work. We eventually talked them into having the maintenance guy to drive us to our destination. If we had had to get a taxi or pay for the fridge, it would have cost us way more to stay here than it was worth.

Nice Get-Away

MaryJane
- Apr 25, 2012
The room was clean and nicely furnished. We had a King bed, it was quite comfortable. The front desk staff were very nice and welcoming. The lady in the gift shop was on a personal phone call and never greeted me, she was complaining about the hotel. The cooked to order breakfast was fantastic, something for everyone. Our bedroom window unfortunately faced the street and we heard sirens and a motorcycle revving its engine at the traffic light through the night. The pool was refreshing, the fountain and flowers were very pretty. Just several blocks away from Old Town Scottsdale, lots of great shops. The farmers market was also a nice venue to walk through. I would go back.

I was in town for work by myself, and was able to find plenty of things to do during my off time, whether it was shopping, relaxing by the pool, catching a baseball game at the 4th story grill, or enjoying the many bars and clubs right up the street. Although the hotel was packed, the line for breakfast was never long and the noise level was kept to a minimum. I would recoomended the hotel for people travelling alone, with golfing buddies, or with their entire family.

Great hotel!

This hotel was the PERFECT location to walk to and from the bars in downtown Scottsdale. It was great because I did not need to take a taxi OR risk getting a DUI. The hotel is very nice and recently redecorated. The rooms have a small kitchen with a full size oven and decent size fridge. The "living area" includes a couch with a comfortable pull out queen mattress. The the actual bedroom was a decent size and the bathroom/walk in closet was a nice touch. The grounds were well kept, clean, and there was a cute fire pit for people to lounge around. They also offered a HOT free breakfast; however, I did not wake up early enough to partake in such festivities.
The staff was nice and accommodating. I would definitely recommend staying at this hotel!

Overall a nice place...

Moms week off

Overall this was a nice place to get away. It would have been close to perfect but for a few kinks. The staff overall was very accommodating. They do use your name regularly which does give you a feel of service and comfort. The rooms were standard, but the bathrooms were fantastic. The bed left something to desire...very squeaky..and kind of slumped in the middle. Pillows were great, which can be hard to find. The pools are nice and the grounds pleasant. The spa was pleasant but very overcrowded..almost felt uncomfortable. It was waves of people in and out. Also a bit overpriced for my taste. Facial was about $180 including tip..which is ok. The facial was wonderful. I was going to have a massage, but couldn't part with $200 plus for a 50 minute. Have them at home for about $100-150..Their restaurant was the worst. Prado...it left everything to be desired...the caesar was soggy on wilted lettuce.. the tuna was not seared correctly..and the melon salad which was said to be grilled was not... Grilling would have given it some smokey flavor which it needed as there was no depth to this dish at all. It was amateur and not cooked correctly on any level. The chocolate cake was great, perfect, but the gelato was grainey..several other people throughout my trip had told me the gilato was not good...so I conquer...not good.
Overall I would stay again...maybe!

Great place to just getaway and relax! Hotel is very modern looking and comfortable. Nice pool area, great little bar/restaurant with outdoor seating. The location was fantastic, just a 15 minute walk to the Fashion Square Mall. Hotel is surrounded by plenty of bars and restaurants, which is nice but noise can be heard most of the night. The hotel does provide you with complimentary ear plugs, which I thought was hilarious! Other than that great place to stay, would definitely go back!!

New motel, still working out bugs, it is expected. Staff seemed a little flustered, still wrote off as newness. Room key took three tries to open door, with each failure another trip to front desk. We were not the only families with this problem at the same time.

What an incredible stay my wife and I had this past weekend. The location at this hotel in beyond belief. We were right across the street from Old Downtown Scottsdale, with every type of restaurant and the numerous art galleries available all within a 5 minute walk. We were also less than a 5 minute drive to a public golf course which was a great lay out. You cant get a better location than this in all of Scottsdale. I will admit that even with all of these ammenities the service at the hotel was the highlight of our trip. The manager was an absolute dream. She knew everything about all of Phoenix, not just her surrounding area. Her friendliness was and professionalism was completely shared by all of the staff at this location. We enjoed our stay so much that we are already planning a trip for later this summer and will definitely stay at this property.

This hotel is extremely well located with special grocery store, restuarants, shopping and bus stop on main highway that gets you to Old Town and Shopping Mall. the bungalow was a single room with a patio door as an entry door. The room has a fridge, microwave, flat screen TV, a desk with two chairs, two armchairs, iron board with an iron, a coffee maker (12 cups). The bathroom was clean. Shower head was a little low (and I'm not a tall guy: 5'7), but that was not a big deal. The glass patio door opens to a nice sort-of private patio with a patio table and two chairs. Bushes around serve as a green fence. Overall, I was really pleased.

This is a hidden gem. I lived in Scottsdale many years ago, but never really knew of this property other than the name. The grounds are BEAUTIFUL! There is a 1 mile walking path that is an absolute delight in the mornings - What a way to start your day! Although the property is older, the prices & service by the front desk staff are fantastic! There were a number of discounts & freebies that were a surprise when I arrived - 1 hour bike rental, $25 off a local spa, etc. The location is FABULOUS! Within walking distance - Walgreen's, Trader Joe's, shopping, Dolce' Salon, Houstons, Starbucks, J. Alexanders, Tacos & Tequila, etc.

great hotel with some quirks
-

- May 21, 2012
this really is a great hotel, but does have some quirks. it is really too bad that most of the views from the rooms are of a parking garage, or the freeway. we opted for an executive room and loved the balcony. so nice to be able to sit outside and enjoy coffee in the morning, or evening sunset. however these rooms have much smaller bathrooms than the standard, not a problem as we didn't care if we had a tub or not, but seems strange that the top end rooms have lesser amenities.

We had a great experience...the pool was big and clean and the pool servers always made sure we had everything we needed. during the week we basically had the pool to ourselves. The only con was the distance from the resort to old town, we needed to rent a car and take a cab which was pricey. The casino offers a free shuttle to the shopping square in the evening. If you are a big gambler stay here, if you're in town to explore the city it might be better to stay in old town Scottsdale.

Description
The Saguaro arrives in November 2011, bringing with it a new look to where Old Town, the Arts district and Civic Center Mall meet. Bright, lush and vibrant, it's a fresh face amid Scottsdale's downtown scene. Inspired by the contemporary architecture of Mexico and the Arizona desert, The Saguaro is designed around the color and light of the surrounding landscape.
The Saguaro experience begins, fittingly enough, outside amid the arid weather and brilliant sunlight of the Sonoran Desert. Each room exterior is accented by the color of a native desert flower, creating a visual spectrum throughout the resort grounds. Inside, your room's primary color is joined by contemporary and natural furnishings in wood and leather, including hand-crafted pieces imported from Mexico. A stay here is about relaxation, nature and yes, our two famous pools. Both are easy walks from every room, heated and ringed by cabanas. The Saguaro Spa welcomes you to de-stress you even further. When it's time to recharge, the comprehensive fitness center will get you looking your best for around the poolside bar.
The hotel features an onsite Jose Garces signature Restaurant, Food Network's 2010 The Next Iron Chef winner. Distrito, a modern Mexican restaurant and bar features the wonderfully diverse street food of Mexico City, known in that country as the Distrito Federal and Mexican Barbacoa, or barbecue. Distrito will also offer guests over 100 varieties of tequila and an exciting array of drinks. Enjoy a playful and relaxed dining experience offering a taste of modern Mexican street food alongside a dazzling array of mouthwatering fresh fruit margaritas and cold craft beers on an our outdoor patio with views of the amazing Arizona sunset. Also enjoy Saguaro's lounge Old Town Whiskey, a bar evocative of frontier drink parlors of old, Old Town Whiskey offers a collection of domestic spirits and artfully crafted cocktails alongside classic American dishes. In the morning stop by for a cup of joe from the Garces Trading Company, serving Chef Garces' custom-roasted GTC coffees and house baked goods.
Valet parking is available for a fee of $14.00 plus tax daily. Internet access is also available for a fee of $9.95 plus tax daily. Valet parking and internet usage are both payable directly to the Saguaro at the time of check-out.

We were at a party and looking for a place to stay before driving home to Tucson. We stayed here because it was near the party. However, we checked in late and were charged a "resort fee" of which we were not aware. I think you should put that in the price or notify us of the fee. We did not use any of the "resort" facilities.
