A close walk to PHX convention center

  • Apr 1, 2012
at .9 miles away and for a lot less $ than the bigger hotels, it was a value and I got some exercise. The outside looked like any other budget hotel, but the inside was nice and the A/C worked great. Free coffee, OJ and some packaged pastries in the lobby for breakfast. No swimming pool, but plenty on channels on a fairly large TV. Some traffic noise, but this is Phoenix. Would stay again,

Hit and Miss

  • Apr 3, 2012
Pros - Front Desk staff, bar/cafe staff, location, minibar, workout facilities and large pool area. Cons - Gift shop and Valet staff, plain rooms, lack of drawer or cabinet space, leaves in pool. Each time we went to the reception desk, (checking in/out, basic questions), the staff was extremely knowledgeable, efficient, and friendly. Various hotel employees we encountered throughout our stay (in the hallways, in open areas or workout center, etc.) were friendly and took time to ask how we were doing and if we needed anything. On the flip side, the lady working the gift shop was fairly curt in asking us to leave as closing time approached, not bothering to give us a few minutes warning or to ask if we intended to purchase anything. Upon arriving to check in, a valet demanded our keys to move our car ~50 feet, which seemed to offer no real benefit over where we parked it. He later seemed upset that we did not tip for the relocation. Pool was large and nearby hangout area also large for a downtown hotel, but pool seemed not to be cleaned often as little green leaves were noticeable throughout. Nearby workout area was well stocked with plenty of cardio equipment and machines, though we would have also liked mattresses for floor workouts (minor inconvenience). The room itself was fairly basic, obviously designed for the business traveler. Bed was very comfortable and executive chair and desk were good quality, but room had only 2 small drawers under the closet for clothes. No drawers or cabinets of any kind in the bathroom. I don't mind but my gal likes to unpack and organize her things to feel at home. The mini fridge was actually empty, allowing us to stock it as we saw fit, which we appreciated having instead of the overpriced minibars many hotels offer. Overall, pretty decent hotel, and pretty good downtown location (we walked the 6 blocks to a Suns game, hit a sports bar on the way home, and felt safe walking back). At the same time, the experience was not quite as ritzy as some other 4-star hotels I've visited (e.g. Omni and Hyatt).

No Frills Value

  • Mar 20, 2012
The room was clean, which is my primary concern. The only thing that bothered me was that there were no drawers to keep clothes tidy. But that'a a small thing to me. There wasn't a coffee pot in the room, but there was an iron and board. The bathroom was tiny, but clean and did what it needed to do. The front desk people were nice and helpful. It was generally a good stay for a very reasonable price.

If you expect compromised quality because of the low price, you are in for a surprise. Amenities are simple but very clean and well maintained. The whole place has been newly remodeled so it is bright, cheerful, remarkabley quiet for being located on a street. Staff was courteous and attentive. I will actively recommend this accomodation to my friends who stay in the city.

The location is good and the history behind the hotel is interesting, but the the actual room was pretty ordinary and felt more like a motel rather than a hotel. It's worth to experience if you're into the history behind this place, but if you're looking for comfort and good quality you may want to look elsewhere.

It's not what it seems

  • Orchid Lady
  • Oct 22, 2011
I usually choose hotels from the Choice Hotel group. I also know that Quality Inns can be inconsistent. This hotel was more on the less likeable side than others. Hotel not secure at night - back doors left open and key entry did not work. I paid $89 per night. Minimum rate posted in the room was $49. The overall value I received was not worth what I paid. Clerk couldn't understand that the AC unit with a thermostat would not turn off when the set temp was reached. This ultimately worked out as the unit itself was quite noisy when running.

It is a OK place to stay. Not fancy. The interiotr halls are very dark. The location is very good, close to downtown Phoenix. And the best thing of all is that they provide transportation to/from airport and courtesy transportation to downtown. This is not clearly advertized and is a good deal that can save you good money.

Description
High style meets old-fashioned customer service in downtown PhoenixHigh style meets old-fashioned customer service at this downtown Phoenix address. The hotel is the winner of an American Society for Interior Design award. Sharp details such as cobalt blue granite and hand-blown glass lighting adorn the hip lobby and carry over into sleek guest rooms. A heated rooftop pool is a respite from urban hustle. The dry sauna and full-service hair and nail salon await to pamper off the lobby. Two on-site restaurants satisfy food cravings. Full convention and banquet facilities offer a peerless locale for events. Highlights Starbucks kiosk in lobbyHeated rooftop pool60,000 square feet of event and convention space Rooms Most of the 532 rooms and suites were recently updated in chocolate brown hues with splashes of signature cobalt blue and rusty orange. Expect embossed wallpaper, Herman Miller ergonomic desk chairs and upholstered headboards. Luxury bedding sits atop Serta mattresses. True Blue bath products beckon in the decked out bathrooms. Free high-speed Internet access, a spacious work area, and two-line speakerphone offer convenience. Upgrades include one- or two-bedroom suites with two or three full bathrooms. Dining The restaurant is near many downtown Phoenix restaurants. On site is the Icon Lounge, a hangout serving small dishes with global infusions. Marston's is known for its breakfast buffets, but it serves American fare at lunch and dinner, too. The Starbucks in the lobby has the wake-up stuff you need after a night on the town. Recreation A heated pool and terrace sits on the 19th floor. The dry sauna and full-service hair and nail salon await with more pampering just off the lobby.   Transportation Phoenix Sky Harbor International AirportScottsdale Airport Attractions Downtown Phoenix (0.0 mi/ 0.0 km)Heard Museum (1.7 mi/ 2.8 km)Phoenix Zoo (8.5 mi/13.7 km)Desert Botanical Garden (9.4 mi/15.1 km) Business 60,000 square feet of flexible and funky spaces with full event services for eight to 1,100 peopleSpecialized group outings planned by Wyndham Meeting ConnectorsFull-service business center Policies and fees Parking Fee is $23.Additional adult charge is $20.

A very nice Downtown hotel. Walking distance to the US Airways Center and Chase Field. Hotel staff is very helpful and professional. Clean room. I will stay there next time we visit Phoenix.

The hotel was fine and the staff was very nice. The location is the key positive thing though as it is walking distance to convention center and the arena.
