The staff were very accomodating, the room clean, bathroom spotless. Location : a 10 minute walk into the heart of York. Only negative was the lack of Wi Fi which I need when abroad even though it's a vaction I need to be able to connect with loved ones and clients back home. BTW the "lounge" is an amazing space in oak panelling with very comfortable armchairs. Breakfast was good too.

Middlethorpe Hall is a William and Mary country house, built in 1699 of mellow red brick with limestone dressings, for Thomas Barlow, a master cutler from Sheffield. It was bought in the 1980s and reopened as a luxury Hotel, Restaurant and Spa in 1984, rescued from decay, caringly and lovingly restored by Historic House Hotels. There are ten elegant guestrooms and suites to be found in the main Hall, with further delightful guestrooms in the restored 18th Century Courtyard and cottage. Guestrooms are all en suite and furnished in a country house style, with antiques and fine prints. Middle Thorpe Spa is housed in a Grade II listed cottage, which has been carefully restored and modified to house a large indoor swimming pool, spa bath, steam room and sauna, gymnasium and three beauty treatment rooms.Middle Thorpe Hall is well known for its comfortable, luxurious atmosphere, as well as its beautifully restored walled gardens with 18th Century Dovecote, lavender walk, rolling lawns with ha-ha and parkland landscape.

The Groves is a very nice small

  • Anonymous
  • Jul 20, 2010
The Groves is a very nice small hotel. We spent 2 nights in July '10 here and found it a very pleasant experience. There is a main building and 2 annexes with more rooms across the car park (no charge during your stay). One of our party had a 2nd floor room in the main building and the other 2 were in one of the annexes. We found that the main building room was smaller than that in the annexe but both were quite adequate for a short stay. Obviously, room sizes vary so our experience may not be typical. The breakfast choices were excellent, from a full English to a continental, as was the breakfast itself. There is a small bar, open till around 11.00pm, at normal pub prices and a lounge to relax in. Staff were all friendly, polite and very helpful. The hotel is located in a quiet side street and it's a 10-minute stroll to the city walls and Minster, 15 mins to the centre. We have no hesitation in recommending this hotel for a short, or even a longer, stay in York.

In 1806, it became the official residence of the Assize Court Judges and remained so until the 1970s when it was converted into the small & friendly hotel it is today. Service... At the Judges Lodgings Hotel, you can rely on unobtrusive, friendly service and keen attention to detail from the hotel's new management team. Car Parking... Last but not least is the limited car park available by prior arrangement at the time of booking. Charges apply. Alternatively, there are numerous car parks nearby, and the hotel is just a short walk from York Railway Station. You will be able to see for yourself soon, when the hotel new improved website goes live, but in the meantime please take a look through these pages for a flavor of what you can expect.

Standing in the shadow of York Minster, the BEST WESTERN PLUS Dean Court enjoys, without a doubt, the finest location of any hotel in the city (if not the country!). History and heritage lie on our doorstep, with the county capital's major attractions, boutique shops and eateries all a short walk away. Speaking of walks, the city's famous ghost tours are well worth joining, while plenty of parkland can be enjoyed on a relaxing stroll through the nearby museum gardens. York Races is of course a draw if you fancy a flutter, but the safest bet of all is our award-winning cuisine and fine wines! Leeds, Harrogate and Knaresborough are all within easy reach, but we agree with the Vikings and Romans. York is the place to be!

Really enjoyed the hotel, very welcoming staff, helpful and hotel clean although i would have expected white robes in bedroom . The bedroom was clean but dated and not in keeping with a hotel of this star rating .The breakfast was good and on a whole hotel good and family orientated. The children really enjoyed the swimming facility and Josh on reception at the pool was great advising us on local attractions and the best places to visit ,All in all would recommend

The Family room was next to the large venting ducts and hence very noisy at night. Large room and spacious and reasonably clean. Restaurant pricey considering mediocre presentation and taste of food.

This was a great hotel and since it was a Best Western, we expected to find a standard hotel but this was not the case. It was more like a first class Bed and Breakfast, great restaurant with gourmet chef for both dinner and breakfast - great room with a charming, four poster canopied bed! Made the stay in York even better than we expected.

Description
Just a mile from York city centre (and the many attractions you'll find there), lies BEST WESTERN York Pavilion Hotel. This beautifully appointed Grade II listed Georgian country house is located away from the hustle and bustle to ensure a peaceful night's sleep, but close enough to the museums, walls, parks and shops that make this ancient city so appealing. York Minster and the free Railway Museum are both a mile away, the racecourse is two miles away and Leeds, Harrogate and Knaresborough lie a little further afield for yet more shops! And getting to these points of interest could not be easier, with free parking making travel by road a relaxing reality, and a ten minute bus service or a calming riverside walk providing equally easy alternatives. And when you return, our friendly and welcoming staff will provide memorable service that'll make you feel utterly at home!

Sadly, what started as a very pleasant evening away turned into an unpleasantly noisy night. The sound-proofing in our room was completely inadequate and we scarecely slept, finding the noise from TV and guests above us starting 1t 00:30 very intrusive, snoring continuing until 5 when we gave up trying to sleep.

We spent New Year in York and based our stay here. It was a well-placed hotel for city access with a regular bus service to York city centre. The hotel is a delightful Georgian building with sympathetic colour schemes and furnishings and good facilities including parking. Anne took us to our room which, although small, was well decorated with abeamed ceilings in the bedroom and en-suite. Although the room was at the front of the hotel traffic noise was not noticeably intrusive. Anne was very welcoming and booked a taxi to take us to our evening restaurant and made us feel part of a 'family'- in fact the hotel has the feel of a country house hotel. Restaurant and reception staff were excellent as were the arrangements for a 'late breakfast' on New Year's Day! We would recommend this hotel strongly.

Good deal for a short break

  • MT Hip
  • Mar 2, 2012
We were pleasantly pleased with the hotel although it was a fair walk to the centre. The swimming pool was a let down as it was not heated enough to swim and the shower room was very dirty. However we only stayed for a night so it was reasonable with what we paid for. Car park was cheap compared to what was in town and the staff kindly gave us extended parking after checking out without paying extra. Breakfast was good although it was £10 per person. Recommended for a short break.

Just returned from a 2 night stay. The hotel, located right on the river, is in a great location, to be able to walk into the city centre, etc which takes about 5 minutes or so. It is perfectly situated for restaurants and bars along the river banks. and the shopping areas are accessed easily. The hotel is clean, the rooms are clean and we were very happy with our stay. Would definitely stay here again in the future

A small resort hotel with relaxing atmosphere. Next to the hotel is a large garden that provides a good feeling of York countryside. The hotel is about 20 minutes' drive from York city centre. You need to have a car to stay there, otherwise it might me difficult to get around. The room is clean and comfortable. The staff is friendly.
