Description
The Generator hostel offers a unique experience, and has established itself as the place to stay in London for young visitors. There are four public areas: Fuel stop (Self service breakfast and dinner), Chill out lounge (with sofas, movies and inter-net terminals), Turbine 1 (eating area with pool tables) and then there is the Famous Generator Bar, open from 6pm till 2am.
A travel shop is also available every day for theatre tickets, travel passes, tourist information and most travel essentials.
All bedrooms are basic with bunk beds and a wash basin. All rooms have shared facilities in the communal area and showers and toilets are available on every floor. Towels not included in rate, we recommend guests bring their own or if preferred these can be purchased for a small fee at the in house travel shop.
Sport / Entertainment: The bar is open every day from 6pm 2am and has a team that run nightly events each night from Quizzes to Karaoke. Cheap drinks and lots of fun guaranteed. Also movies shown every day in the chill out lounge from 4pm.

l auberge a un emplacement ideale , personnel tres acceuillant et parlant correctement plusieurs langue rien a redire sur les chambres privatiser. Seul petit bemol seulement 2 douche sur les 5 ne fonctionnaient.

Friendly and clean hostel very conveniently located near Kings Cross, which puts you within 15 min of central London.
Would recommend to budget travelers looking for a convenient location as a base to explore London.

You essentially are getting what you pay for, which is somewhere well located in South London. The place was reasonably clean and the staff reasonably pleasant -they didn't go out of their way to make you feel welcome.
Continental breakfast was adequate, but some juice and fruit would be welcome.
The room was extremely cramped with no storage space for bags and really warm!
Nonetheless if you are looking for something cheap and cheerful for good location then this is the place for you!

For me, the location was excellent. Waterloo, BFI, National Theatre, Westminster, all an easy walk. But 15 people in a 12x12 foot room? Tiny bathroom facilities and no water pressure. Certainly not worth more than the cheap price.

The price gouging that occurred for this place was outrageous. I am still appalled at what was charged for what we received.
The location was perfect- on a nice quiet street with a 5 minute walk to a Tesco, the underground, pubs and cafes.
The breakfast leaves a lot to be desired- toast with cheese. One day there were hard boiled eggs. Not exactly something to get excited about.
Rooms are tiny- you've been warned. Also do not expect any air conditioning- it would be nice if it said that on the website.
The ladies who clean the room were very courteous and nice. They really did a nice job. You're also given plenty of soap and shampoo for your stay ahead of time. Nice if you use a lot of shampoo.
The shower does flood and if you're up before 8 am be prepared to wait a good 10 minutes for hot water.
The front desk staff was interesting. I especially like when they tried to down grade us to 2 twin beds. Also just know that the double rooms are just two twin beds shoved together. But it was nice that they went ahead and shoved them together for us.

Location is great and easy to find. Of course we knew we would get what we paid for. Basic room with a large window which was nice. Bathroom was small but modern. My fiance and I work on a cruise ship and laughed when we saw the 'crew cabin' style bed sheets. The hotel definitely needs to invest in QUILTS! We were only supplied with two, thin pillows, when we requested more, they gave us one haha! We'd heard breakfast was simple, that it was indeed. Boiled eggs, toast, choice of one cereal, tea and coffee. We also read breakfast is very busy. It wasn't so busy, just in the smallest room in London!! It was like an obstacle course to get around with your hot cup of coffee!! Man at reception was quite grumpy. We didn't feel safe to leave our luggage with him for the day, so dragged it around Londons galleries!! All in all, was fine for one night in a great location.

Das Hotel wird noch immer renoviert.
Wir hatten ein Zimmer im Keller mit Ausblick in den Schacht.... Fenster wurde wahrscheinlich
noch nie geputzt. Im Badezimmer hatte es einen muffigen Geruch, was wohl an der Lage des Zimmers lag. Das Zimmer war zwar sauber, wir würden aber nicht mehr in so ein Zimmer einchecken. Die Zimmer im oberen Bereich sind bestimmt besser.
Das Frühstück sehr einseitig. Toastbrot, Butter und Marmelade. Am Sonntag gab es aber auch Croissants und Käse.

While the hotel seemed like a good deal in terms of comfort and convenience, the choice of a 15 pound order in advance breakfast or an 18 pound in the morning breakfast didn't seem like much of a choice. I wanted something light, not a full buffet, and I object to having to pay for way more than I can eat.

Be careful - there are two Holiday Inns in the area, and a cab ride from one to the other is quite expensive. The room clerk gave me a non-functional key, which led to a long trudge back to the front desk and a stony stare, no apology. The restaurant was a bit expensive, but had a lovely buffet, filling and tasty for 20 GBP, about $30. Service was diffident. Internet is quite expensive and even the TV channels weren't free! The Hoppa bus takes you to the airport for 4 GBP which was a reasonable price; cab fare is much more.

Il y avait des souris dans notre chambre qui n'ont pas hésité à venir se servir dans nos sacs...
La chambre était vielle, délabrée et sale, la literie était très mauvaise et les sanitaires si peu rassurant que nous n'avons pas pris de douche.

The hotel will be completely renovated and needs this very badly. The staff is magnificently trained to meet needs. The price reflects the condition of the hotel. The staff patiently showed us 4 rooms on a busy Saturday night before we found one we could live with.

The hotel is located in a great area. However, the bathroom was covered in mold and the carpet was filthy in the room. The hotel room temperature couldn't be adjusted. The room was freezing! The free breakfast was decent. The hotel needs many upgrades. If you are looking for a cheap place to lay your head for a night and don't care what the room is like, it isn't bad. I wouldn't stay here again, EVER.

Pros: The concierge was very friendly and the hotel is in a great location, making everything very accessible for the first-time London visitor. A cab was ordered for us when we asked and the rooms were cleaned every day.
Cons: The rooms were very small and the service left a little to be desired. The soap was not replaced in the bathroom, despite asking twice.

For an pretty low rate, even by non-London standards, we got an adequate place to sleep, in a very convenient location, with a staff that was helpful and responsive. But, as you might expect, the room was small, there wasn't enough space to do anything but sleep (no place to sit, etc.), and there with issues with a running toilet and flickering lights. But, bottom line, for the money, I'ld stay there again.

Ein Zimmer mit drei Betten im EG mit einem sehr kleinen, hoch oben angesetztes Fenster. Sauberkeit war ok. Es wurde jeden Tag die Tücher gewechselt,Dusche geputzt und auch die Betten gemacht. Nur der Zustand des Zimmers war nicht so schön. Das Frühstück..na ja, man kann es essen. Man sollte einfach nicht zuviel erwarten. Das Hotel ist an einer ruhigen Strasse gelegen und auch die Bahn ist schnell erreichbar. Aber alles in allem...für ein paar Nächte und nur zum schlafen ist es O.K.

Wouldn't print out my boarding pass to the US which complicated my travel. Had to find internet cafe w/ services. Tiny room and bath.

I could touch both walls in my single room. The room was as deep as my twin bed. Not much room for luggage, but it did have a bathroom attached. For the price, it's pretty typical London. They never changed my sheets and no air conditioning.

It's been quite a few years now since I started coming to this hotel. It's always been pleasant to stay there, good location and friendly staff. However, this time I found the hotel rather shabby and the cleaning staff didn't do their job properly. The breakfast place was changed and that made it less cosy although the food is still OK. So I would like to tell the hotel, shape up concerning the cleaning. This would make it nicer to stay in.

As everybody notices, this hotel is located in a not so nice location - a laneway with large rubbish bins nearby. However, once inside, all is ok. The (free) breakfast was good and even included scrambled eggs (but made from powder I believe- based on texture, appearance and taste!) and bacon, sausages etc. Room was spotless. One of two lifts was not working for most of my three day stay. Staff were helpful and friendly. No fridge in room Overall, a good experience.

Hotel en condiciones deplorables. Ruinoso. Habitaciones en estado lamentable. Desayuno servido en la misma recepción del hotel sentados junta a la mesa del ordenador del recepcionista en 20 m2. Ideal para recomendar a tu peor enemigo.

This is the worst hotel anyone can be in. They moved us from room to room everyday. No telephone in the rooms, the televeisons do not work. The rooms are dirty and smelling. They allowed customers smoke cigerates and ganger in the rooms.

Room was clean and fresh towels next morning, TV was broken, you need to pay extra for internet (£1 or £2 for an hour), shower head didn't stay on wall because bracket was broken.. Kettle worked, hair dryer worked...
Never got up in time for breakfast, either day of stay... Lift was dodgy but worked (Slowly)...
Never set foot in the bar or food area...
Woke early Monday morning with construction noise... Our room was clean.. 24 hour reception... Location was brilliant... across the road from a little food shop... Everything is on Craven Road McDonalds KFC BK etc.. Couple of nice pubs and cafes.. ATM around the corner... The Paddington Hilton is practically across the road... 500 yards from Paddington station... Cant think of anything else but it worked for us because we wanted somewhere clean and close to the center with good tube access...

This place was the cheapest available on the date in the Paddington area. Previously I had trusted Rates to Go to have a minimum standard. This place certainly was below our minimum standard. We looked at the room and left and had to book somewhere else at walk in rates. It looks like one of those places being run down waiting for a redevelopment. Perhaps students and backpackers will accept the level of decor and cleanliness but for the rest of us I would give it a miss.

Our stay here was enjoyable but I don't know whether we would stay here again to go sightseeing as it took us quite a while to get in and out of central London. The decor leaves a lot to be desired but our room was clean and had everything we needed. The staff are extremely nice, pleasant, helpful and courteous. The food is very good and we couldn't believe how cheap the meals were. A chicken tikka masala comes with rice, salad, chips, naan bread, poppadums and chutney, all for £5.95. I would definitely stay here again if I was attending a concert or football at Wembley Stadium but not to visit the sights.

L'hotel est très bien placé.(arret de bus juste devant l'hotel). la chambre était au calme, le lit confortable.Propreté moyenne, la douche pas très bien entretenue avec du matériel vieillissant.La salle de petit dejeuner torp petite pour l'hotel.(on a du attendre debout que des places se libèrent.

very disappointing in general. I paid for a triple room with either 3 beds or 1 double and 1 single. My room had 2 singles that were crammed in such a small space I think they must have greased the door frames to get them inside. The hotel manager wanted nothing to do with my inquiry of why I was given a room with 2 beds when I paid for 3. He could not understand the fact that I paid for a triple room for more space even though only 2 of us were staying in there. His thinking is that it is prepaid [...] so he does not have to be considerate. He actually got nasty with me! He actually did the same thing to another person who had a similar complaint in my presence. Staff at breakfast seemed bothered by the fact that we actually took advantage of the free breakfast included. They were actually mad at us because we showed up 5 minutes before end of breakfast. They turned the lights off on us while I was sipping a coffee and having a piece of toast! Unbelieveable!Jolly Englanders they were not! Needless to say...never again and would not recommend! I hope the staff and the nasty owner reads this!

Hotel plutot bien placé mais de gros soucis niveau respect sonore mais aussi sur la qualité des équipements. Les lits ne possèdent pas de latte donc nous avons du mettre les matelas par terre pour dormir car tout couinait dans tout les sens. Pas de sanitaire dans la chambre et sanitaire sale.
Bref, rapport qualité prix 0

L'hôtel n'est pas vraiment à deux pas de la gare, meilleur moyen pour rejoindre Londres... La chambre était plus que petite, ne parlons même pas de la salle de bain où il était difficile de circuler à deux! Le plafond était sale, les rideaux défraîchis et le sommier du lit était une planche de bois... Heureusement que la fatigue du 31 décembre était bien présente! Les photos de l'hôtel sont trompeuses et la chambre "deluxe" n'avait finalement rien de luxueux.

The hotel is in need of a much more drastic make-over. We booked the room at the last minute but paid approx the same as a premier inn minus the breakfast. The shower in the room leaked so badly we had to mop up the water after showering. The window was difficult to open, and as there was no air conditioning we did need it open, the roof outside was covered in cigarette butts, obviously smoked in the room.The television aerial had to be hung near the floor and definitely bot walked in front of!
We arrived back at approx 11.30pm and had a drink in the bar, 2 glasses of Chateaux sarsons £7.50,
the bar girl was polish and as we tried to complain said her shift was finished and left. The continental breakfast comprised of tea/coffee, cereal and toast definitely NOT continental.We would definitely not stay here again.
