Lovely and convenient place - only one problem
-
ChicagoKathy
- Dec 11, 2011
Our double room wasn't available upon our midnight arrival, so we had two single rooms the first night. In a generous gesture on the hotel's part, we received a (hearty) complimentary breakfast every morning. The location is fantastic, the rooms clean, the beds firm, and the building gorgeously refurbished on the ground floor. The only negative is that the rooms are so small that it's difficult for two people to move around at once in a double room. I know that's typical for London hotels, but I was a little surprised this qualifies as a "four-star" hotel.

The room was a little small and didn't have the greatest amenities, but who's in a room when you're visiting London?
Great location, very close to public transport.

Not quite as impressive as the web site phot's depict but clean and presentable with an excellent view of Hyde Park. Staff helpful and provided free upgrade. The hotel is well placed for two tube stations so access to the city is very straight forward and a range of shops pubs etc within walking distance. There is some road noise but this is normal for the area. Only downside is the cost of breakfast, £15pp is about on par for other hotels but there are many alternatives within walking distance. Car parking is secure and cheaper than most at £25 per 24 hours.

Our room was not ready when we arrived, so we got an upgrade to a deluxe room with a view of Hyde Park. It was a very comfortable room. The staff was friendly and helpful. The Island Grill restaurant was great for breakfast. Lounge comfortable and quiet. There are a couple other options for breakfast nearby. The location of the hotel is great, right around the corner from the Lancaster Gate Underground stop. Less than a 10 minute walk from Paddington Station and the pubs around there-Easy access from Heathrow Express.

Location is ideal, being close to London's attractions, tube station and Paddington.
There are plenty of shops/restaurants nearby too.
On the downside, the room had no towels, which I didn't notice until I needed one. Also the bathroom had a small trail of ants marching through it.
Room is small but otherwise fine.

A gem on Cleveland Park

The hotel at which the conference was being held wanted L400+ for a room for a night. This hotel was much, much more reasonable! And more beautiful, and simpler, and more functionally pleasing.
This hotel is one of a series of flats on a long block which has been renovated into an utterly charming and adorable hotel.
My room had a kitchenette discreetly hidden behind folding doors. The bathroom was fine, with a shower stall and requisite hand-held shower head (a most civilized accessory). The sink was tiny, but did what it was supposed to.
My bed was reasonably soft and fresh, the pillows still had the new springiness to them. And there were plenty of pillows, always a predilection of mine. The lighting was particularly interesting and flooded the whole room in a gentle luminescence. I also found the floor lamp next to the glass-topped working desk a nice piece of functional and artistic design.
The hotel offers a fine continental breakfast of pastries, yogurt, juice and fruit for an easily accepted price. I've seen menus at other hotels where an ounce or so of juice, an egg, toast and a small piece of bacon is gouged at $25 US. Outrageous.
British TV is a hoot. A lot of American programs (unfortunately) to be found as well. Large LCD TV on the wall.
All in all a wonderful place. If you speak Lithuanian, there are some friendly people on the staff there who are Lithuanian. I would recommend this place to anyone.

first time I'd stayed at this hotel , my single room was very small but adequate as I didn't plan to spend too much time there.hotel has 5 floors and no lift and when I asked I was given a room on the first floor, when I first went into the room the heaters were on full in the bedroom and bathroom and for me the heat was too much but the receptionist was helpful and I was able to turn off the heaters which was fine, a very large window in the room but unable to open it but fine as heaters could be controlled. breakfast adequate for me best to get down early as you might have to wait at busy times, location excellent for 3 tube stations Queensway, Bayswater and Notting Hill Gate.No 390 bus from Bayswater Road to Oxford St, and Euston , a large selection of restaurants of all types in the area and it felt a very safe area to walk alone at night.

We enjoyed our stay at the Days Inn Hotel. We arrived at the hotel at 11:30am (check in is at 2pm) and the staff allowed us to check in and leave our bag in our room before it had been cleaned. This was great as we were not expecting to return to our room until 11pm that night. Location wise the hotel was ideal for us as we were attending a concert in Hyde Park. It's very close to Paddington tube station. Facilities were fine for us, and the room was clean. Breakfast was continental buffet style and had a decent range of items, including a pancake machine which my daughter enjoyed. We were also near enough to walk through Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens and down Portobello Road on Sunday morning which we hadn't planned and were able to leave our bag with Reception until we returned.
I would use this hotel again as it was an ideal base for us.

Staff was very polite and helpful. We had a lower level (garden level) room that I was a little leery about initially, but turned out to be very nice. It had a kitchenette, table and chairs, sofa bed and two twin beds pushed together to form a king size bed. There were 4 of us sharing the room and we had plenty of space. Fairly close to the underground, restaurants and shopping.

The Orchard was clean and quite nice. The staff were very friendly and helpful! The room was big for a European hotel and was well furnished. The hotel is a ten minute walk from Paddington station - so very convenient if flying in from Heathrow (the Heathrow express drops you off at Paddington) and it's very easy to get around London from there using the Tube. It's not far from Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens too. I would definitely there again! The only thing that was a little disappointing was that you had to pay for wifi if you wanted to use it in the room, but there are plenty of cafes in the area who have free wifi....

We arrived early in the morning, and were unable to check into our hotel until around 2 p.m. The hotel staff was very friendly and kept our bags while we went out for the afternoon. Upon checking into our room, I was very pleased with the size of the room and the bathroom. The (twin) beds were comfortable, and the bathroom was plenty big (for European standards!) The room was very clean. At night, we could easily hear people on the floor above us. There is a computer at the bar for guests to use. From Heathrow, we took the Underground to Paddington Station, and the hotel is a very close walk. Hyde Park was very close, as well as some pubs. We had dinner at the Victoria, and it was very good! Overall, a very nice hotel.

I called in advance about early check-in and was told there would be no problem. Upon arrival at 8:00 am, we had to wait and complain to the staff until I upgraded to another room that was available. Not one time did the desk acknowlege I had called to pay for an additional night and was told I did not need to do this.

This place is in a really good location if you're not looking to stay in the direct middle of London. It's in a really nice area of Westminster near Kensington Gardens/Hyde Park. It's close to Paddington Station or the Totteham Court Underground stations. There's plenty of good places to eat nearby. Even the restaraunt and bar in the hotel are also very nice.
The rooms are small, but no smaller than you find anywhere else in London for this price. They are clean and nice though. The staff is friendly and helpful.
I would gladly stay here again or recommend it to a friend. You should be pleased if you stay here.

Hotel is ideal for Paddington station and accessing the city. Hotel was very nice. Not cheap but then this is London. Rooms are very clean and tidy and nice showers. The rooms are small but just big enough. Ideal for short stays but would be cramped if you had a lot of luggage. Would stay here again if in London.

We stayed at this hotel for the first night of our honeymoon. The location was great for us, a few minutes walk to Hyde Park or a short cab ride to basically anywhere we wanted to go. Reception had no problem with us dropping our bags off early that morning and even offered to hold them for us after we checked out the next day if we needed them to. The room was really beautifully decorated and super clean!

The hotel has a great location near two tube stops. Room was typical European in size, but apportioned well. My only downside to the room is that it didn't have air conditioning, then again in the UK one doesn't really need it. It would have been nice though. The hallways are small (and the elevator), but again that is typical in European hotels. Hotel staff was courteous, bed was comfortable, and room was clean. Food around hotel was Eastern European and Asian, and quite plentiful. Other food is just a a tube stop away. I thought paying for internet was a bit expensive.

A Solid Budget Option
-
First Timer in Edinburgh
- Oct 3, 2011
My wife and I had a very nice stay of 8 nights at the London Elizabeth in September. This is an aging property, without particular frills, but it's a very good budget choice (for London prices anyway).
The hotel is around the corner from the Lancaster Gate tube stop and an easy walk to Paddington Station. The street it's on is busy and the extremely busy road along the top of Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens is just around the corner, so do yourself a favor as we did and request a room in the back. The walls are a bit thin regardless, but we never had any particular problem with sound.
Our room was small, but not tiny. Everything was clean, although some of the decor was a bit worn. The room had a safe, a trouser press, a television (only 4 channels, but we didn't vacation in London to watch TV), and plentiful hot water (if anything the pressure was too high) at all times of day. The bathroom was very clean, and my only issue was with the shower, which was high and a bit difficult to clamber into, and then so slim that it was difficult to stay out of the shower curtain while showering.
The continental breakfast was adequate: four kinds of pastry, cereals, two juices, toast, tea, coffee, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, and mixed cut fruit. By the end of eight days, a little variation would have been welcome, as would a bit of cheese, but everything was always fresh and service was good. A full breakfast was available for 6 pounds more. We didn't eat in the restaurant otherwise.
We got good help with restaurant recommendations from the concierge, and there are plenty of options in the neighborhood, particularly if you like Middle Eastern and Asian food. Several decent pubs were an easy walk away.
Don't be mistaken: this isn't the Ritz, but they took good care of us and we never had an issue in eight days that required remediation. This is a solid budget option in a good location in a city of expensive hotels. I would stay again.
