Not quite as impressive as the web site phot's depict but clean and presentable with an excellent view of Hyde Park. Staff helpful and provided free upgrade. The hotel is well placed for two tube stations so access to the city is very straight forward and a range of shops pubs etc within walking distance. There is some road noise but this is normal for the area. Only downside is the cost of breakfast, £15pp is about on par for other hotels but there are many alternatives within walking distance. Car parking is secure and cheaper than most at £25 per 24 hours.

Fine for a stopover

Location is ideal, being close to London's attractions, tube station and Paddington.
There are plenty of shops/restaurants nearby too.
On the downside, the room had no towels, which I didn't notice until I needed one. Also the bathroom had a small trail of ants marching through it.
Room is small but otherwise fine.

I was disappointed in the hotel, the sheets were clean but there were stains on the other bedclothes, quite disgusting. It was hard to get the water running properly in the shower, so no decent shower. No tea and coffee facilities. However, the staff were very helpful and friendly. Location was what I expected, very easy to get around London from there and a safe neighbourhood.

Great Hotel
-
Aurelie

The Orchard was clean and quite nice. The staff were very friendly and helpful! The room was big for a European hotel and was well furnished. The hotel is a ten minute walk from Paddington station - so very convenient if flying in from Heathrow (the Heathrow express drops you off at Paddington) and it's very easy to get around London from there using the Tube. It's not far from Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens too. I would definitely there again! The only thing that was a little disappointing was that you had to pay for wifi if you wanted to use it in the room, but there are plenty of cafes in the area who have free wifi....

We arrived early in the morning, and were unable to check into our hotel until around 2 p.m. The hotel staff was very friendly and kept our bags while we went out for the afternoon. Upon checking into our room, I was very pleased with the size of the room and the bathroom. The (twin) beds were comfortable, and the bathroom was plenty big (for European standards!) The room was very clean. At night, we could easily hear people on the floor above us. There is a computer at the bar for guests to use. From Heathrow, we took the Underground to Paddington Station, and the hotel is a very close walk. Hyde Park was very close, as well as some pubs. We had dinner at the Victoria, and it was very good! Overall, a very nice hotel.

A Solid Budget Option
-
First Timer in Edinburgh
- Oct 3, 2011
My wife and I had a very nice stay of 8 nights at the London Elizabeth in September. This is an aging property, without particular frills, but it's a very good budget choice (for London prices anyway).
The hotel is around the corner from the Lancaster Gate tube stop and an easy walk to Paddington Station. The street it's on is busy and the extremely busy road along the top of Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens is just around the corner, so do yourself a favor as we did and request a room in the back. The walls are a bit thin regardless, but we never had any particular problem with sound.
Our room was small, but not tiny. Everything was clean, although some of the decor was a bit worn. The room had a safe, a trouser press, a television (only 4 channels, but we didn't vacation in London to watch TV), and plentiful hot water (if anything the pressure was too high) at all times of day. The bathroom was very clean, and my only issue was with the shower, which was high and a bit difficult to clamber into, and then so slim that it was difficult to stay out of the shower curtain while showering.
The continental breakfast was adequate: four kinds of pastry, cereals, two juices, toast, tea, coffee, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, and mixed cut fruit. By the end of eight days, a little variation would have been welcome, as would a bit of cheese, but everything was always fresh and service was good. A full breakfast was available for 6 pounds more. We didn't eat in the restaurant otherwise.
We got good help with restaurant recommendations from the concierge, and there are plenty of options in the neighborhood, particularly if you like Middle Eastern and Asian food. Several decent pubs were an easy walk away.
Don't be mistaken: this isn't the Ritz, but they took good care of us and we never had an issue in eight days that required remediation. This is a solid budget option in a good location in a city of expensive hotels. I would stay again.

The single room was definitely a single but with a decent sized single bed. Couldn't swing the proverbial cat.... Modern en suite shower room with lovely hot water. Friendly staff. I cannot comment on dining/breakfast facilities as I did not use them. The reception safe turned out not to be a safe but things kept behind reception! I think a room safe would a great improvement. I would stay again, without valuables.

Thistle Hyde Park offers a refined, intimate haven at the heart of London. The hotel, which dates from Victorian times, has a cosy, relaxed atmosphere reminiscent of a Pall Mall private-member's club, with the old and the new blending seamlessly throughout.
As the name suggests, our newly-refurbished hotel overlooks Hyde Park, once Henry VIII's private hunting ground and now one of London's most famous features. The Serpentine, Rotten Row and Speakers' Corner have been its defining landmarks since the 18th Century; a more recent addition is the memorial to Diana, Princess of Wales.
At Thistle Hyde Park, we have 54 luxury bedrooms, including Executive rooms, studios and suites, and three elegant meeting rooms, the largest seating 35 people. There's limited on-site car parking available at an additional charge.
With superb views over the Park and Kensington Gardens, we're a comfortable base from which to enjoy the West End's theatres and shops, with Oxford Street, Park Lane and Mayfair all within easy reach.

Nice and clean in a great location. Hyde Park is right across the street. Hotel is very close to Queensway and Lancaster Gate tube stations. Paddington is just a 15-minute walk. This hotel was really nice. We booked a deluxe double room and requested 2 beds, but our flight was delayed and we got there very late. I emailed the hotel to let them know we were still coming, no problem there. The room we got for the first night was very small with one full sized bed, we could hardly turn around in it. There wasn't even an extra chair in it, and we couldn't even have both suitcases open on the floor at the same time. The next morning we complained at the front desk, and the manager told us if we packed our things up, he would move us to a larger room while we were out that day, and he did. The 2nd room was much better, 2 beds, sitting area and a decent sized bathroom. It was clean, had much more room, and had a window that opened onto the street.
The staff was very friendly and helpful, breakfast was pretty good, too.
Internet was free, but did not work in the room, I had to go to the lobby and check my emails there. There is also a computer that you can put coins into and do some net surfing as well.
The location was great! 2 blocks off the Queensway station, very close to Kensington Park, and lots of stores and restaurants within walking distance.
Would definitely stay there again, just specify what kind of room you want.

The location of this hotel and the price cannot be beat. It is a short walk from Queensway tube station and the Bayswater tube station. Easy to find. I felt safe, and was not worried walking around. There are several places to eat very close by. The hotel is right across from Hyde Park, and there is a gate right there to go in a walk around. The room was a little small, but I only needed to sleep and shower. So it was fine! The breakfast wasn't bad either. They had cereal, toast, hard boiled eggs, crescent rolls, yogurt, fruit, juice, tea and most importantly coffee! The employees were ok. One in particular had to help us and was just fine. I would reccoment this hotel. Maybe not for an extended period, but a couple of nights it would be fine! Again, location and price can't be beat!

upscale hotel in sea of cheapies

rainy and cool for summer, lovely hotel but actually poorly sound-proofed in rooms (can hear noise in halls ways - other doors opening/closing, knocking), nice serene garden to relax in the morning, restaurant stops serving breakfast early (for us) - 10AM!, no ice machines as they want you to use minibar/room service

I only stayed one night at the Hempel, and it was an enjoyable stay. I mostly needed a nice place to sleep that had internet - it has a lovely ambiance, and the wireless was complimentary, which was a real treat for such a nice hotel.

Have stayed in this hotel for a few times, but the cleaniness standard decreases every time I stay with them.
It's a handy hotel with easy access to the city and paddington train station (why I stay there). Room is small but acceptable. Fair price.
I had very good impression with this hotel when I first stayed with them in 2008. However, my recent experience didn't impress me much due to the beddings (I'm happy with the shower room). The beddings looked clean and neat, however, both of my friend and I got itchy rashes after our first night sleep (we were staying there for 3 nights!). Apparently nothing can be done apart from changing room however they're fully booked.
May not stay there again with the cleaniness standard and the increasing price.

The hotel room was THE smallest
-

The hotel room was THE smallest double room we have ever stayed in! I don't know how it can be classed as a 4 star hotel? It was the discounted price and location being near Paddington station for the heathrow express that attracted us so can't complain about the good deal through [this website] but it was so small it was almost dangerous - no room to put the laptop on the desk next to the kettle so had to put tea and coffee tray on the floor with the kettle whilst using the lap top. I have to give them credit for fitting as much as possible into such a confined space, however - but don't think I will return because of the size of the room.

Although the hotel is located

Although the hotel is located in a very convenient location this was somewhat offset by the service. To be frank, the staff were poorly trained and we spent hours (literally) sorting out payment. Our rooms had been prepaid by HotelClub and the hotel insisted that we be charged (again). Later the charges by the hotel were reversed but it took a great deal of time and effort to resolve this issue. I put this down to the lack of staff training. There was one staff member - a trainee who seemed to be the only one who knew how to proceed. Not an ideal sitatuation given we stayed for a short period and were in the middle of organising a wedding.

Great country Hotel in the City
- Horseman
- Feb 22, 2011
The Byron is like a congenial country hotel transplanted to the city. The rooms are nicely decorated and clean. We had a large bedroom and a large full bath. Very nice breakfast room. Helpful staff. This is as nice a small hotel as you will find. As in all hotels made from converted townhouses, the halls wander; and there are back stairs. But, there is a lift. The price has gone up lately; but I will use this hotel again.

Nice hotel situated perfectly for visiting london. Prices are okay, so are the rooms.
The people at the reception should be a bit friendlier, but overall: this is a nice hotel.

Nice, but unorganized
-
Traveling Teacher

The hotel did not have my reservation [...], which was strange. [...] Fortunately, they had rooms available, so it wasn't a huge deal. The guy at the check-in desk barely spoke English (he spoke Spanish), which I thought was a bit odd. He was quite difficult to understand. It's a fine hotel for a night or two, but I wouldn't say it was the best experience I have had in London.

On arriving at the hote lwe were
-
Anonymous
- Oct 19, 2009
On arriving at the hote lwe were offered the basement room or the 5th floor which had no lifts and seeing we had 2 heavy suitcases and had just got off a 13 hour flight we picked the basement room, the front desk person advised us that the room was very clean and tidy, I guess you know were this is going... The room was very small, the blinds didn't close, there was evidence of termites throughout the room. Showering was interesting, you either had boiling hot or cold water. I guess you could bypass all of the above as an experience,, until we decided to go to bed and discovered the pillowcases were filthy and in the early hours of the morning the hotel staff were using the room next door to get the breakfast ready and we were woken up due to the light filtering thru the blinds...
On the positive side the hotel is located very close to Paddington station and there are plenty of shops and food outlets. Breakfast was good and they also have plenty of tourist pamphlets.

Hotel is a good base
-
Azalea
- Sep 9, 2009
Hotel was a good base for family travel. It would be more helpful if you could book room type--double bed or twins--beforehand, though staff was helpful about moving us to a twin-bed room the next day. Hotel seemed to be occupied by mostly young adults on group holidays, so it was noisy in the evening when they were leaving; but we found it quiet at night and comfortable though hardly luxurious.

Good location and price
-
Stinkerbelle
- Dec 13, 2011
What we like about the hotel is mainly the location, it's around 8 minutes walk to the Bayswater tube which is surrounded by a lot of nice restaurants and close to Hyde Park. Room wise, you get what you pay for. We did not expect much, it's a place to sleep for us. It's clean enough, just imagine staying at your friend's apartment/dorm. Basically we didn't have any horror story to tell. We would stay there again just for the location. So in a nutshell don't expect a 5 star hotel, treat it as a good base to explore London.

The triple room was a bit small but adequate. Carpet smelt a bit musty. Overall good enough for a 2 night stay. Loved the easy walk to tube station. Would recommend the hotel
