Fantastic Location

Located 1 block from either the train station or bus station. We were there for the Loch Ness Marathon and staff was very attentive. It was my wife's birthday and they gave her a card and wished her good luck in the race.

Good hotel for a flying visit

  • hkconstance
  • Sep 5, 2010
Overall is a good hotel for it's location, close to the train station. My daughter and I came up for a wedding. We didn't get back until 1am in the morning. There was a little confusion about the second glass sliding front door to enter the hotel, as I did not realize we need the hotel card to open it. There was a staff came to open it for us, he was rightly point out the door need to be open by the hotel card key. But I was not too happy about how direct he was and not too friendly (without a smile). I have to say that all the other staffs are great and make you feel welcome. Hotel itself is clean and tidy. I will come back again, next time I will remember to use the hotel key or the sliding door.

Great base for the city and surrounding area

  • null
  • Sep 20, 2011
Not having visited Inverness before the location of the hotel was ideal. Obvious evidence of recent upgrading of 1st floor rooms which were very individual. Furniture, fittings and bathrooms very impressive. Nice touches e.g. courtesy tray with wide variety of teas, milks and coffees, quality biscuits and even sweets renewed daily. Even a pessimistic sturdy umbrella! Restaurant not used because of the wide range of quality catering alternatives in the city. Weakest aspect was the breakfast facilities. Staff not able to anticipate demand so bread, glasses, grapefruit all ran out and the problems took some time to rectify. Much better breakfast management required and a second day feedback to the hotel management brought some improvement subsequently on both supply and the quality of the cooking. Car parking outside could be a problem if the staff use too many of the 9 spaces.

Perfect location - next to the station

  • Jul 21, 2011
We arrived by rail from northern Scotland. It was a relief on a hot day to see the hotel right outside the station. We were in Inverness for two days - primarily to visit Fort George and Culloden. The hotel met our needs and was good value for money. Although it is an older hotel, that is also part of its charm. I would return.

Strathness House is a privately and family run guest house with all the facilities that you would expect from a small hotel. Set in a prime area of the city, the emphasis is on personal service with a homely, Highland touch. The services are personally centred around each guest. From small groups to the single business traveller, all are guaranteed a very warm Highland welcome. All guest house rooms en-suite, many rooms with river view Free wireless Internet access Single, Twin, Double and Family Rooms available Ideally situated in the centre of Inverness Strathness House was built in 1874 by Mr Matheson of the Merchant Shipping company Jardine & Matheson, founded in 1843 in China. Alexander Ross (an eminent architect of the day) was commissioned to design and oversee the building of the house. Mr Ross was also the designer of St Andrew's Cathedral that stands next door to Strathness House. Matheson was a highly respected local businessman who invested in the local community - though perhaps today he may have been regarded as something of a shady character due to his involvement in the opium trade! During World War II Strathness House was taken over by the Ministry of Defence as one of their residences, and after the war it remained a guest house until it was renamed the Tower Hotel in 1957. The name Strathness House was reinstated in October 2007 by its present owners Joan and Javed, who will be happy to tell you more about the history of Strathness House on your visit to Inverness.

ANNFIELD ROAD, Inverness, --

Description
Hotel is a more relaxing alternative to those located in the very centre of the city. (10.08rt) The hotel is a former 18th century town house and has managed to retain much of its charm and character. Even though the hotel is quite historic, it almost has a modern appearance about it. Ample parking available. This hotel is situated in a quiet residential area, but is only a 5 minute walk from the town centre.

Comfortable place after a longish train ride...quiet neighborhood, "suburban" atmosphere. In process of upgrading pub/lounge area [ which were a bit outdated]

7 NESS WALK, Inverness, --
Back to menu Return to top

Description
The hotel offers an outstanding location to visit Inverness and the beautiful surrounding area of the Highlands. The hotel has undergone a full refurbishment and is now one of the best hotels in Inverness. Complimentary access to Inverness Leisure Centre is provided, allowing guests to workout in the fitness suite or relax in the health spa and pool. With Loch Ness approximately a 30-minute drive and the historic sites that are dotted around the local area, there is plenty to keep guests occupied during their stay. (GW 09/2008) This is a traditional grey slate Victorian building in keeping with the surrounding architecture. The hotel is located centrally in Inverness on the banks of the River Ness, opposite Inverness Castle.

This hotel was great. It had a fantastic location. Our only complaint would be that it was not very sound proof and you could hear people in the hall and about you. The breakfast that was included was great.
