Good but not great.

Great location, friendly staff, but only one small elevator for the entire building - and some maintenance problems like shorted lamp cords, sewer gas smell, dirty woodwork, etc. Hotel Manager should be on top of these things. Those concerns aside, I would stay here again.

Nice Minus

  • J. G. C.
  • Mar 31, 2012
Well-located and reasonably priced. Not a 5 Star property. Stayed here for 5 days, and they didn't bring in another shower cap or bar of soap until we requested one after three days. The first 10 tv channels didn't work for 2+ days. Wi Fi was free in the lobby but required repeated requests for a password which changed every hour or so. Bathrooms were very modern and attractive while hallway carpets were tattered. Major deficit was no luggage rack. No air conditioning but room cooled with the window open. Bed was comfortable. Small exercise room with adequate equipment. On site free washers and dryers. Neighborhood restaurants were varied and some were excellent. A ten minute walk from the high-toned George Street shopping district. Altogether, a nice and reasonable priced hotel, but not as luxurious as one might have expected with a 5 star rating.

Great city center location!

  • CPC1
  • Mar 5, 2012
My daughter and I spent 1 night at this hotel. Location is perfect, right in the middle of the historical center of the city. All the attractions are walking distance. Very quiet. We were there on a Saturday night and the city can get a little rowdy, we did not hear a thing. The entire place is spotless, beautifully decorated, very calming and relaxing atmosphere. Staff is always available and helpful. Our room (304) had a little kitchen area which could come handy if you plan on staying for a few days. THIS HOTEL DOES NOT HAVE A PARKING. If you have a car, you will need to go and park it about 1/2 mile and walk . This is not in the hotel description and we found out the hard way. Overall a very good hotel if you do not have a car.

Great location. Room service needs a little help.

  • Albert A.
  • May 16, 2012
The Apex International was a very nice place to stay in Edinburgh. Great view of Edinburgh Castle. Close to everything. Room was clean, quaint and quiet. Hotel restaurants had nice views but food was nothing special and way over priced. Plenty of better or at least equal options for far less money all up and down he street. We ordered room service one night. It was something very simple, a pizza and an order of fish and chips. They brought us a pizza and chips. When we told them there wasn't any fish, the guy said " oh, ok I'll take that off the bill so you don't pay for it". However, we ordered that because we wanted it and it took 3 phone calls for them to figure out that we didn't want it taken off the bill, rather, we wanted the fish. So, I had to wait for my wife's meal to finally arrive and I ate a cold pizza. They did nothing to compensate for this. Beyond this, I have nothing but good things to say about Apex International.

Edinburgh apartment stay

  • Traveler from Texas
  • May 12, 2012
This was an excellent choice for us for a two-night stay in Edinburgh. This particular apartment was on Simpson Loan, west of Edinburgh University and south of the City Centre of Old Town. It was an ultra modern 1 BR 1BA with kitchenette, comfortable leather seating in LR/kitchen combo. HDTV with cable. A washer/dryer was available but we did not use it. We were particularly impressed by the office staff and their helpfulness when we picked up our keys. They provided a map of the city and other useful information. There was also a folder in the apartment with every conceivable piece of information you might need, including how to work the thermostat, adjust the water temperature for the shower, etc. We would use Edinburgh Apartments again in a heartbeat--and plan to do so! Too much to see in a day and a half.

A great place to stay

  • FlyOverGirl
  • May 13, 2012
This hotel was on the new town side of the city. It was extremely accessible, not far from the train station and provided easy access to shopping and easy places to grab a bite. it was also very simple to get to old town Edinburgh -- just cut right across the gardens (which made for a pleasant walk!) Hotel staff were great, the room was perfect, and the price was nice as well. Would stay here again!

Great location/good price/helpful staff

  • World travellers 2009
  • Sep 20, 2009
Our experience at the Fountain Court Apts EQ2 was very pleasant. Our apartment was very lovely, modern, and clean. The location was great, very close to Old Town and within walking distance of just about everything. Several restaurants are right across the canal from the apartment complex, so very convenient. Our 2nd night in the apartment, we had a gas leak in the gas meter. The person in the reception office handled the situation very well, calling the gas company and moving us into another apartment for the remaining 3 nights of our stay. Overall, the experience was very nice and we would highly recommend this property to anyone traveling to Edinburgh, especially for a longer period of time.

Have stayed here several times

  • Brian
  • May 24, 2009
Have stayed here several times - it is a good base for business users. Can seem a bit off the track but in fact centrally located. The location is ideal for a city centre base - no traffic noise and very little pedestrian noise too. Very noisy early morning carpet cleaning in the hallway and being phoned up by reception 5 minutes after the due checkout (making me go back into room I was exiting) were only two niggles. They seem to have stopped leaving breakfast items in the fridge - no great hardship as there are several minmarkets nearby including a Sanisburys and Co-op. Pleasnat, reasonably kitted out, anonymous accomodation near Edinburgh city centre at a reasonable rate (for the UK).

Best Experience so far!

  • GMaz
  • Jul 15, 2011
The good: first of all, Edinburgh is so awesome, I want to move there. The hotel looks like a castle outside and inside is very well taken care of. With the exception of the night receptionist, the whole staff was very nice and helpful. Our room had a beautiful view, was VERY spacious and we had all that we needed. The bus stop is literally down the steps and it is a 10 minute ride to the city center. The bad: NO ELEVATOR. So it was not fun pulling our suitcases to the third floor. No Air conditioning (although it is cold enough in Edinburgh) so we had to open the windows, which face the street, so it was pretty noisy.

Generally quite nice, but the seating in the room was so uncomfortable as to be unusable. It may have been the chain's top designer who picked the chairs, but the designer could never have sat in them and tried to read. Otherwise, quite nice, with a great (though expensive) restaurant in the hotel.

Great hotel, even better service

  • Anne P.
  • Nov 1, 2011
We stayed at Hotel Missoni for three nights, and we were honestly blown away. I'm not a fan of the Missoni color/pattern palette, but the hotel is beautifully done, even tasteful (!) and the layout is comfortable but chic. Our room was perfectly sized, with a nice big bathroom and modern fixtures, and the restaurant and bar (we visited both) were also lovely. But the kicker is the *thought* for guests: the staff is lovely, warm and helpful, and there are little touches that make you feel welcome left and right (the minibar is complimentary, they do 2 pieces of laundry/night, again complimentary, they supply significantly more than the minimum toiletries, etc). The location is great too – right off the Royal Mile but on a less-than-touristy side street. In all, we loved staying here. Sure, it's a bit spendy, but if you're looking for a romantic getaway and planning to spend a bit more money, go here and skip the 'old glamour' (which can be a bit stale) of the more established institutions.

Hotel was acceptable but they "swiped" my credit card in case of incidentals but did not inform me that they would automatically charge 3o pounds and this resulted in a message from my card company and I had to call Scotland from London for explanation. I should have been advised of the charge when it was made.

Great Location

  • Jennifer
  • Sep 23, 2009
Had to spend the first night at another hotel d/t overbooking- all arrangements were made by Princes Street Suites personel. When I finally got to check into hotel the next day, they did upgrade me to a very large suite, which was more than expected. Everything was nice, except the floors were dirty and the beds weren't the most comfortable I've slept on. They are fairly new, so maybe a few wrinkles to iron out yet? You cannot beat the location for train station access, bus access, and a very short walk to either old town or new town. I would reccommend this hotel, just call or email before hand to verify that you will have a room.

Princess Streets Suites Review

  • Aug 2, 2009
This was a one week research trip to Edinburgh. The room was spacious and comfortable. While we received an exceptionally good deal-possibly the best in Edinburgh-there were definitely some rough edges. The towel service came when it wanted and not every day, some of the furniture was in bad shape and was fairly flimsy. Still, we had a large, modern room. This is clearly a budget hotel that doesn't look like other budget hotels.

A wonderful hotel!

The Piries Hotel was a beautiful, clean hotel in a gorgeous old building in a very central area of Edinburgh, a five-minute walk to Haymarket station with 24-hour convenience stores and restaurants and pubs all around it. It had every modern day amenity you could want, a restaurant, very cheap internet access, and a very accomodating staff. I have a family of four with two very young children and our room was extremely large and roomy, a very welcome break from the smaller rooms we've had to stay in throughout Europe! I highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Edinburgh!

The hotel was centrally located and everyone who worked there was really nice and helpful. The room was a good size and was cleaned daily. The trip was a lot of fun, and the only complaint I had was the lack of a top sheet on the bed because the comforter didn't look very new.

No internet for entire stay despite

  • Drew
  • Jan 17, 2011
No internet for entire stay despite complaining 3 times. Finally tracked it down (myself) to the 2 ground floor routers not working but no-one was able to restart them. Staff tried to make me think my computer was broken (despite it working on the routers upstairs). I have a Computer Science degree so am immune to this sort of fobbing off. The boiler seemed to contain a fairly small amount of water and the 'emergency' reheat only worked sometimes. The watered down fairy liquid & sponge that had been cut in half were annoying. The iron was broken on arrival but struggled to get another as staff seemed to think that irons are supposed to leak. Car parking was around the back of building and the route was like an ice rink on arrival. No attempt had been made to clear or grit around the entrance to the building. Some staff were very rude including one who started answering a question and then answered a phone leaving me standing for a couple of minutes before I walked away.

Great place, staff and location

  • Joshua S.
  • Sep 30, 2011
I LOVED this hotel. The staff were all young, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The location was literally in the dead center of the historic district with great views. The room was beautifully decorated, clean and comfortable with a great tv and dvd player. I can't recommend this fun place enough-you should stay here. The only reasons it might not be perfect for everyone is there is no mini fridge or hair dryer and all rooms are up at least two long flights of stairs with no elevator.

Big mistake, who's responsible?

  • Don't Lie to Me

Address printed in [...] reservation was wrong, registration office had moved. We backtracked to find them. Boss was kind enough to comp a late check-out. Clerk marked map with inaccurate directions, and was unaware of the great distance it was from registration office. Office had no familiarity with property when we asked about ground floor. Room 14 turned out to be up 4 flights of stairs! After losing precious hours of our one day in Edinburgh, we were exhausted and turned off the whole city. How do you comp for that?

Edinburgh Trip

  • Hamilton
  • Jul 25, 2010
[...]The apartment i was given was located about a 20 minute walk from the main location and was dark when i went to the room. The entrance had no light and my apartment was on the 2nd floor so i pretty much tripped up the stairs with my luggage since i couldn't see anything. When i got in the room it wasn' tthat bad. 17 in tv was pretty much sittin on the floor which made it impossible to see when laying on the bed. When I did actually pull the covers back to go to sleep there was stains on the sheets. looked like someone wearing makeup was rolling around in the bed. Once i layed down on the twin mattresses that were placed together, one of the mattresses was sunken in, in the middle which made it impossible to sleep on. When I woke up i had a crook in my neck which after a heat pad which i bought still is bothering me 12 hrs later. I will never stay in one of these apartments again due to my terrible experience that i had here. Also upon checkout I dropped my luggage off to be watched until I was to depart, when i paid the staff the 5 pound fee with a 10 pound bill [...] refused to give me a 5 pound note back and insisted that he give me a 5 Scottish pound note even though i told him i didn't want it. He told me he didn't have change and i had to take it even though I wanted a british note back. I had to find change to pay since he wouldn't give me the correct note back. Worse experience I have ever had and I have traveled all over the world. The price is not worth the stay at this hotel. Pay a lil more and you will get much more for your money.
