Good but not great.

Great location, friendly staff, but only one small elevator for the entire building - and some maintenance problems like shorted lamp cords, sewer gas smell, dirty woodwork, etc. Hotel Manager should be on top of these things. Those concerns aside, I would stay here again.

A great place to stay

  • FlyOverGirl
  • May 13, 2012
This hotel was on the new town side of the city. It was extremely accessible, not far from the train station and provided easy access to shopping and easy places to grab a bite. it was also very simple to get to old town Edinburgh -- just cut right across the gardens (which made for a pleasant walk!) Hotel staff were great, the room was perfect, and the price was nice as well. Would stay here again!

Great for a hen weekend

  • TMCL
  • Jan 31, 2012
Location perfect for hen parties (although not full of hens, actually didn't see another one while there!) - perfectly located to nightlife and shopping!! Downside --- shower is not great, temp gauge not working very well... Cheap when compared to hotels on George Street despite being located at the top of the street (side entrance actually on George St). Stayed in another hotel (more expensive) previously and this one was much, much better :-)

Great location, lovely Hotel. The rooms were very clean. The only downfall with the hotel was the fact that there were Christmas parties on in the hotel on the saturday night and we could hear the music/disco. would be better to put guests not going to parties in rooms furthest away from functions rooms.

Great location, Spacious rooms, but...

  • Mike
  • Aug 9, 2011
The Blue Rainbow Aparthotel in Edinburgh is a converted apartment house. Its kitchen/dining/living area is separate from the bedroom. It is perfect if you want to invite co-workers over discuss work, eat or watch TV. It is big enough for a small meeting. The hotel is centrally located, the train station and shopping are only a short walk away. The price is on-par with traditional hotel rooms in the same area. I would caution about making reservations at this hotel if your plans are not firm. The hotel has a 100% cancellation charge policy. You should inform your boss about this policy. Even if you cancel weeks in advance, you will be charged, and cannot apply the funds to other hotel nights or services. The facility is old, and things break. During my stay the elevator, TV and Internet broke, and took days to be fixed. My reaction to the staff was mixed. We took a side trip to Inverness, during which they stored my wife's insulin in the fridge. On the other hand, the staff have been to told to never remove a charge from a customer's bill. So while the staff giving us updates on when things would be fixed, they were also telling us that we would have to talk with a manager to get charges for the Internet (a separate charge) from our bill. Eventually cooler heads prevailed. Taken as a whole, I would recommend this hotel. It is particularly nice if you need room to discuss work with co-workers, or just would like to have an intimate, breakfast with your spouse.

Wat een ruimte en wat een uitzicht!

  • Angelica
  • Aug 7, 2011

Wonderful Find!!

We stayed at The Howard for personal travel and we were NOT disappointed. It was a beautiful "old style" hotel made of connecting town houses located in new town. We had wonderful service and a gorgeous room. The view wasn't anything to write home about, but we didn't stay there for the view. It was away from the hustle and bustle of old town, yet close enough to still walk everywhere. The hotel provided a restaurant guide that they had put together and we ate a wonderful local pub. The atmosphere was inviting and restful and the included breakfast the next morning was great!! We are already planning our return back to the hotel and think that the hotel is absolutely worth the five stars!

Beautiful hotel in a beautiful city. The Howard Hotel was only outdone by the city of Edinburgh. The service at the hotel was unmatched in my travels. I have stayed at other 5 star hotels that have had great service but the Howard being quite small enabled the entire staff to provide my wife and I an unforgetable experience.I have also payed more than twice as much for a less enjoyable hotel stay.

STRESSFUL stay in Edinburgh!

  • Will-Jay
  • Oct 8, 2009
The check-in location was changed [...]. An extra taxi ride was required. The accommodation we had booked and paid for well in advance was not available and we were placed in a less desirable apartment in a distant location. After complaining, we were told that the booked apartment would be available at 1 PM the next day and that our luggage would be moved by the rental company. Upon arriving the room was not ready and our luggage didn't show up for another 1 1/2 hours. In addition the breakfast site for the included breakfast opened at 11 AM and was about half-way down the Royal Mile from the apartment. Obviously we did not use the breakfast coupons. The time wasted over two days meant that we were unable to visit sites that we had planned during our stay in Edinburgh. [...]

El apartamento está muy bien situado, sin embargo no estaba todo lo bien equipado que debería. La entrega de llaves no se hizo según lo acordado.

LEGALLY! Staff where all foreign which wasnt very much help when I did get paid double what I was ment to pay for the hotel and had to phone my bank and try and get a member of staff to explain the hotel had accidently over paid me.
