Fraser suites is a gorgeous hotel that is located on the royal mile. The window in the room was quite small but the view was great! The bathroom was gorgeous however the fixtures were a little confusing to operate.

Great hotel in a great location

This hotel was a great find when we traveled in October 2011. Rooms were modern and comfortable but didn't seem to have any air conditioning. Fine for the fall weather when we stayed. The location was perfect for everything we wanted to see. If you want to stay in the old town at a nice looking hotel this will be hard to beat.

My partner and I go to Edinburgh often and after trying several 4-star hotels found this one and we love it. The location is superb, the rooms are modern and well-furnished, the spa is nice (even if the pool is chilly and the area around it very small). Highly recommended.

Sadder but Wiser
- Aug 31, 2011
we left two spoons in the bathroom of the hotel on Day 2 of a 4-day stay. we had not had room service and these spoons looked nothing like the hotels -- we brought them from home. they were missing when we returned to our room. I reported it immediately to the front desk and said I presumed the maid picked them up by mistake and that they were in the kitchen. the next morning (Day 3), I discussed with the head of the cleaning staff on the floor. the maid was off that day and no one could fine these. i even showed her a picture of these spoons as thet are a Towle stainless pattern. The next day (day 4), when we were checking out, I finally talked to the head of housekeeping who had no ideas anything was missing as he had been out. Then he tells me I have to file a police report to get the two spoons reported -- come on!!! are they serious???? as we were checking out?? and I made it clear I wasn't accusing the maid -- just thought she made a mistake. we're out $70 for the replacement cost of the spoons. What a bunch of incompetents!!!!

Spotless bedrooms. Exceptionally
-

- Aug 28, 2011
Spotless bedrooms. Exceptionally comfy beds, luxurious duvets and pillows. Good location for the festival. We were upgraded to a double double superior.
Excellent cheap cocktails in the bar. Free Wi Fi and well positioned plug sockets in bar/lobby area so good for working.
Breakfast OK, if you let reception know the night before you will get a discount - not advertised. Otherwise plenty of cafes nearby.
Corridors and communal areas need a hoover and the tiles need a good scrub. Service in the bar was slow.
Bathroom very small for 2 people, considering huge room. Shower over bath so not to easy to get out, bath sloped and the partition door did not fully open. No fan in bathroom - or maybe it wasn't working.
Ear plugs provided, as was a fan ,as the room overlooked the castle and the street noise was loud. With window shut it was quiet so no need of the ear plugs!
Too busy to check out the TV - but huge TV screen provided.
Slow lifts.

It's not your run of the mill hotel atmosphere (no pool) but we had 2 bedrooms with 2 bathrooms. There was a washer/dryer and a full kitchen in the unit along with a living room. It was clean and convenient with a helpful staff. I would certainly stay there again in the future.

No internet for entire stay despite
-
Drew
- Jan 17, 2011
No internet for entire stay despite complaining 3 times. Finally tracked it down (myself) to the 2 ground floor routers not working but no-one was able to restart them. Staff tried to make me think my computer was broken (despite it working on the routers upstairs). I have a Computer Science degree so am immune to this sort of fobbing off.
The boiler seemed to contain a fairly small amount of water and the 'emergency' reheat only worked sometimes.
The watered down fairy liquid & sponge that had been cut in half were annoying.
The iron was broken on arrival but struggled to get another as staff seemed to think that irons are supposed to leak.
Car parking was around the back of building and the route was like an ice rink on arrival. No attempt had been made to clear or grit around the entrance to the building.
Some staff were very rude including one who started answering a question and then answered a phone leaving me standing for a couple of minutes before I walked away.

The apartments have off-road parking, within walking distance of Princes Street and the other city centre attractions plus four bus routes to venture further afield. They are clean and, whilst the kitchens are compact they are well-enough equipped to enable visitors to be reasonably independent for catering, especially with the petrol station opposite and Tesco store within a couple of minutes' walk.

Great for a hen weekend

Location perfect for hen parties (although not full of hens, actually didn't see another one while there!) - perfectly located to nightlife and shopping!! Downside --- shower is not great, temp gauge not working very well...
Cheap when compared to hotels on George Street despite being located at the top of the street (side entrance actually on George St). Stayed in another hotel (more expensive) previously and this one was much, much better :-)

Great location, lovely Hotel. The rooms were very clean.
The only downfall with the hotel was the fact that there were Christmas parties on in the hotel on the saturday night and we could hear the music/disco. would be better to put guests not going to parties in rooms furthest away from functions rooms.

This hotel from the pictures looks good, but in real life it is some what tired and dated.
Location is good, but that is the only positive.
Rooms are scruffy and general standards in the hotel are not great. No internet available at all.
Bar area used for breakfast smelt very poor.
I would not use that hotel again. A colleague who stayed at the same hotel different room on the same night thought the same.

The three americans
- Jul 20, 2011
We loved staying at the Ocean Apartments which gave us plenty of room for three grown adults. The view was wonderful, we looked out towards the city and right across from us was the Royal Yacht Britannia. The bus was convenient (#10) to take to Princes street, or we could switch to a variety of other buses (or walk about 15 minutes) to get to other points of the city (the 35 went right up Royal Mile). We used the kitchen everyday and the wifi. Tried to use the washer/dryer, but it is definitely different than the U.S. and ours gave us errors. Depending on how much cooking you do, or how many toiletries you need, you'll probably have to do some shopping, but the ASDA is nearby and we found a "Poundland" (Dollar store) where you could get toiletries and kitchen items for low cost (like measuring cups). The only real problem we had was the errors with the washer/dryer. The apartment staff said they would dry our towels and bring them back, but we didn't get them. It was not too big of an inconvenience, since we had also brought towels.
All and all, I would definitely recommend the apartments especially if you are staying for a while. You can get a RIDACARD for the lothian buses that will take you to a variety of places. Nearby are several restaurants within walking distance or a short ride on the bus. The buses run late, so we were able to enjoy ourselves in the city all day. And the staff was great and helpful. An the Leith neighborhood was fun to walk through.

We visited Edinburgh for sight-seeing weekend get-away. The hotel's proximity to the Royal Mile and Princes Street with easy access to public transit makes its location excellent--no noise of revelers but near the action. The hotel itself was comfortable. The hotel personnel were extremely hospitable. I really enjoy the full Scottish breakfasts as well. The rooms are comfortable. The hotel was accommodating in keeping our luggage so that we did not have to deal with it on our last day of sight-seeing.

We stayed for two nights in February
-
Michael
- Mar 22, 2011
We stayed for two nights in February 2011 at the Glasshouse paying £165 for a 'Deluxe room 1 -Queen". For quality and location this hotel scores very highly. The only downside is that for this price one gets little other than the room. Breakfast and broadband are extra. To be honest breakfast was not an issue (The Frankie & Benny's restaurant in the cinema complex next door is perfectly good and well-priced), but for a hotel of this calibre broadband should be free. Although everything they have is of the best standard, the Glasshouse lacks some facilities that some may expect, such as pool and spa etc. However, all things considered this is probably one of the finest hotels in Edinburgh (and I've stayed in a few).

On arrival we were met and welcomed by the entrance. The staff were very polite, friendly and helpful. We were shown to our room which was of a very good standard. The outlook over the garden space and carton hill was very pleasant, toiletries in the room nice and the room itself separated into a clothes, bathroom, sleeping and sitting area. We had a drink from the honesty bar which was a special touch and a wonderful breakfast in our room. Edinburgh itself is a beautiful city. We enjoyed a lovely few days at the glasshouse and would certainly return.

perfect location, right in the center of the city. Street noise was bothersome if the window was open, but otherwise no complaints. Very good value for the location.

The good: first of all, Edinburgh is so awesome, I want to move there. The hotel looks like a castle outside and inside is very well taken care of. With the exception of the night receptionist, the whole staff was very nice and helpful. Our room had a beautiful view, was VERY spacious and we had all that we needed. The bus stop is literally down the steps and it is a 10 minute ride to the city center.
The bad: NO ELEVATOR. So it was not fun pulling our suitcases to the third floor. No Air conditioning (although it is cold enough in Edinburgh) so we had to open the windows, which face the street, so it was pretty noisy.

Something different in the heart of Edinburgh The Bank Hotel, refurbished in 2008, offers something different to visitors of Edinburgh. The building was originally constructed in 1923 as a grand bank. An extensive renovation in 1998 turned the building into a boutique hotel and restored many original features. Guests can watch the hustle and bustle of the Royal Mile from the comfort of the Bank Bar. Princes Street and city-center amenities are within easy reach. HighlightsUnique historic city center buildingRefurbished in 2008All rooms are non-smokingFree Wi-Fi Rooms Each of the hotel's nine rooms, atop the original 1923 staircase, is named after a famous Scot. The individually designed double, twin, and superior rooms are modern but retain period features, such as wood paneling and freestanding bathtubs. Rooms are spread over three floors, tastefully decorated, and well furnished. Accommodations are equipped with private bathroom, television, safe, hairdryer, direct-dial phone, trouser press, tea- and coffee-making equipment, CD player, and bathrobes. Room service is available during limited hours. The hotel can arrange for dry cleaning. Internet access is available in rooms and public areas. Reception is open 24 hours. Features The Bank Hotel building, located at the junction of South Bridge and the Royal Mile, is a sight worth seeing itself. Doric columns convey an air of respectability that reflects Edinburgh's long history of prudent financial management. The Bank Bar extends over two stories and provides an excellent view of the Old Town, as well as breakfast (fees apply) and a wide choice of drinks and bar food. The hotel offers much more, right on the doorstep. The historic Royal Mile is the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town, a lively area with bars, restaurants, cafés, and attractions. Great place, staff and location

I LOVED this hotel. The staff were all young, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The location was literally in the dead center of the historic district with great views. The room was beautifully decorated, clean and comfortable with a great tv and dvd player.
I can't recommend this fun place enough-you should stay here. The only reasons it might not be perfect for everyone is there is no mini fridge or hair dryer and all rooms are up at least two long flights of stairs with no elevator.

The staff were very helpful and although I arrived early they very kindly allowed my wife and myself to go to our room even carrying our cases to the top floor.
This hotel is very central for sight seeing and well situated for eating and drinking. I will most certainly use it again.

This is my second time staying at Fountain Court Morrison. They have since moved their reception up the street. It's a bit of a walk to check in, but they now offer 24 hour service. The rooms are adequate but might be in need of some updating. Everything was as expected, but it was missing those individual touches we had on our last trip (EX: bread and jam left in the the kitchen for us) . I would have not problem staying here again.

Booked Morrison Street as we had

Booked Morrison Street as we had a wedding at Craighouse. So we went to Morrison Street only to discover we had to go to about half a mile away to check in. We were upgraded, which was nice of them, due to us needing the room quickly to shower and change, due to arriving at said wedding on time. Lord knows what the appartment would have been like before we got upgraded!!!
Perhaps we didn't read the booking form correctly but check in is not where we thought it was and they even have car park facilities. Would have saved us a tenner if we had known. Still the Fountain Court Cafe was excellent.
