Romantic stay

Booked this hotel due to its central location. We were surprised at how quiet it was as this hotel is located in Cardiff City Centre. Trains to Cardiff Bay are very regular and a night out at the Glee Comedy Club was fantastic. A comfortable nights sleep in the hotel , clean room, would definitely book this hotel again. Pity it didn't have spa facilities.

Feiner Aufenthalt in einer feinen Stadt

  • Tom Beutler

I stayed at ML Lodge for one night

  • Anonymous
  • Nov 7, 2010
I stayed at ML Lodge for one night and it was pretty good. Check-in is at the Sandringham hotel, and the staff there were indifferent at best. Oh, and expect stairs at the Sandringham (to reception) and at ML (to get to the rooms). The room itself was spacious and relatively clean - while in some parts the place is showing its age, some of the fittings are new and there has been some efforts made to update. Location couldn't be better - right in the middle of Cardiff Central. Nice place, decent rooms. Recommended!

The hotel is conveniently located

  • Anonymous
  • Oct 30, 2009
The hotel is conveniently located on the main street, and I had a room which looked onto the backyard, so no noise whatsoever at night (except from the neighbouring room...). Good points: The room was large and clean, nicely furnished, comfortable bed and Freeview TV, with coffee making facilities. The staff were helpful and friendly. The breakfast was huge and included in the room price with very good choice. Bad points: I was on the top floor and there were numerous stairs to get to the room. Not ideal if you have luggage, but quite alright if you're travelling light. Secondly: there are serious problems with plumbing in the shower. The water would turn from icy cold to boiling hot in 30 seconds, with no possibility of adjusting the temperature. The thermostat is probably broken. Be careful not to get scalded. All in all: not bad at all for a couple of nights, and highly recommended if you can get a fully-functioning shower and a quiet room at the back.

Fantastic, we were able to check in early and also leave our cases before our train left The staff were wonderfully polite and helpful 2 minor observations only, the toilet roles were a bit 'cheap' (we like really soft ones..) we were given a map with instructions to the inernatioal arena, but we didnt realise at first that there were 2 entrances, and the map reflected the journey from the opposite enrance to which we entered

This hotel is fantastic. Everything was comfortable and clean. The bathroom was great, with a nice big tub. The staff couldn't have been more helpful, first with saving me a spot in the car park and then upgrading my room. location overlooking Bute Park was great considering you are right in the center of the city. You can walk from the hotel along the river taff in 10 minutes and you are in the High Street.

For: perfect location, next to the historical Cardiff castle, walking distance from the city centre with all the shops, restaurants, bars, etc.. Good value for money. "Mostly" friendly staff as they tried their best to see our comfort. Against: Had to request twice to have bathroom well cleaned. Heater wasn't working, but the staff managed to find a solution. Paid for the Executive Room option, excellent large room with big comfy bed and large bedroom. Room was at the back, some noise from Bar below but not obtrusive. Good (if a little pricey Restaurant), nice Bar that also offered a cheaper menu. Would definitely recommend, if you want to explore the City Centre. Short walk to Aquabus, a great way to get to the Bay Area.

The hotel was wonderful! I was a tourist and the location was superb to see Cardiff Castle, National Museum, and hop on the Red Tour Bus. It's close to shopping. I didn't use the spa, so I can't comment on it. The shower/tub combo was great. The tub was wonderful for soaking. Room service was very good. Great room, but costly extras

  • Anonymous
  • Oct 10, 2010
I stayed in this hotel for a week since I was working in Cardiff. I chose this one since it fit my company budget (<$200 daily), and it was a 10 minute walk to Cardiff Central rail station. I requested early check-in at 11 am but no rooms were available. That wasn't a negative since the check-in was clearly at 3 pm. I was offered a secure place to store my luggage until my check-in was ready. They had two iMac computers with free internet access in the lobby. For doing business, I did not like the fact that I had to pay for wi-fi. Also for business, I did not like that the breakfast buffet was a costly 13 pounds per day. I was never disclosed this fee and did not find out until I checked out. After 5 days, that certainly adds up. I would have preferred a free continental breakfast option, especially since time is crucial in the morning and can't afford to spend time eating a large expensive breakfast. The front desk was friendly with check-in, check-out, and calling for taxis. They all had warm smiles. The cleaning service did a good job with room cleaning. Overall, I enjoyed my stay in this modern-decor hotel, but if I could find a hotel with complimentary wi-fi and breakfast, I'd choose that one over the Novotel.

Excellent rooms, great location and friendly staff. Breakfast was superb! Parking a tad expensive at £15 a night though.

Single night stay for the Cardiff Half-Marathon

  • Anonymous
  • Oct 18, 2011
The hotel is situated very close to Cardiff Central rail station and is also in close proximity to many of the city centre attractions. As expected, the rooms were very comfortable and clean. I was primarily in Cardiff to run the city half marathon so requested a late check-out in order to have a shower afterwards. This was given without hesitation and without charge. The staff were always polite and friendly throughout my stay. I didn't dine in the hotel restaurant so I can't comment on their food but I would expect it to be of a similar high standard.

First time in Cardiff

  • Hello BIG world
  • Sep 23, 2012
Maldron Hotel is very conveniently located one short block from Cardiff Central train station. There are a myriad of restaurants, pubs and shops within easy walking distance. Cardiff Castle and Bute Park are also an easy walk from the hotel. Our room was quiet and comfortable. We heard no noise from the trains coming and going. We would definitely stay again on a return trip.

Central location for any Cardiff events

  • Maria Teresa
  • Dec 7, 2012
Booked into the hotel, staff from beginning to checking out, friendly and helpful. Ideal location for any events in Cardiff, parking, had to use NCP car park opposite the Millenium stadium, but half price when using this hotel, bargin. Only draw back on the night we stayed, disco till 5-30 in the morning, but no big deal.

Good value, though not perfect

  • SweetNSour
  • Mar 28, 2012
Overall, I liked my stay here. I booked a single room but ended up with a nice, big double which has its own good-sized bathroom. It was all very clean and reasonably quiet, and the location is excellent, really close to Cardiff Central Station, not a far walk from Cardiff Castle, and in the midst of many restaurants and shops. The breakfast is yummy, too. The cons: supposedly there's free wi-fi throughout the hotel, but my hotel room was at the end of the hall and I got no reception whatsoever. If I walked a few rooms down or to the lobby I could usually get a decent signal, but it was awkward and inconvenient to not be able to be in my own room. Also, maybe it's just me but I found the beds hard and super uncomfortable. I was glad I had two beds, because this allowed me to sleep on top of one duvet and use the other as a blanket.

great hotel

  • Feb 16, 2012
Great hotel, large rooms with a sofa aswell which is nicer than having to sit on the bed all the time. Only gripe was that there are no radiators, the heating operates from the air con unit and room was cold as when you left your room you had to remove the key card and it turned the heating off so you came back to a cold room, a second card would be helpful, otherwise great stay, easy walk to the bay or centre of cardiff, will stay again

This is a great place to stay for a short visit to Cardiff. Close to the railway and taxis, very near the Millennium Stadium and only a short walk to buses and the centre of town-about 10 minutes walk to Cardiff Castle. Thoroughly recommended. (my only gripe: the bathroom is very small).

Friendly check in by cheerful and helpful staff. Put me on the second floor to enable me to get a good nights sleep without being disturbed by the noise from the pub below. Given that I needed a clean, comfortable bed for an overnight stay although basic this hotel offered value for money. Location is great close to the station and in the heart of the shopping and party area.

Travelodge Cardiff Atlantic Wharf

Very poor. Room basic - no wardrobe nor even shelves on which to put cases and no shelves in the bathroom. No bedside table, merely a niche in the headboard. Bedside lights badly located and very poor - it would be impossible for one person to read while the other tried to sleep as the light would be shining in their eyes. No account was taken of the ambient temperature on my visit, as the duvets were a 10.5 tog rating - far too hot. No air conditioning, unless you opened the window and then you had to contend with the noise of the traffic outside. I paid £141 for a twin room for 2 nights. Breakfast was £7.60 extra each, totalling over £170 for the visit. The previous 2 nights had been spent at the De Vere Hotel in Swansea, where the room was spacious, had wardrobes, the bathroon was large with plenty of shelf space, the breakfasts were included and there was use of the facilities, including gym, sauna, pool etc. All this for £161. No comparison. It will be a long time before I revist Travelodge - if ever!
