Single night stay for the Cardiff Half-Marathon

The hotel is situated very close to Cardiff Central rail station and is also in close proximity to many of the city centre attractions. As expected, the rooms were very comfortable and clean. I was primarily in Cardiff to run the city half marathon so requested a late check-out in order to have a shower afterwards. This was given without hesitation and without charge. The staff were always polite and friendly throughout my stay. I didn't dine in the hotel restaurant so I can't comment on their food but I would expect it to be of a similar high standard.

The staff was most helpful and concerned to answer to our comfort needs. The location is perfect as the train and bus stations are within five minutes walk from the hotel. If you are a shopper then all your dreams will have come through. St. David's Center is almost next door. If you like Italian food it's there in plenty! The breakfast offered each day was top class.
We were more than satisfied with everything about the hotel and in particular the great staff.

The pool and spa facilities were first rate. The specials on spa treatments were a very appealing perk. Staff at the fitness center and front desk were especially helpful and friendly. Location was great for shopping, tourist spots and buses out of town to see the uniquely beautiful countryside.

The extra large top floor apartment at the Acityabode@Ocean House has it all.Next door is a beautiful cafe and only minutes walk from the centre Cardiff Bay and all the wonderful restaurants. Parking is also available and a 15 - 20 minute walk into the city centre or you may want to catch the Cardiff Bay ferry to the city centre, right next to Ocean House.

Cardiff Bay train station is 500m away and only takes 4 minutes to get into the city centre, or you can walk which would take 20 minutes.

Budget hotel, good standard of room and room facilities much better than expected at the price. lack of restaurant was slightly inconvenient, but we knew about that when we booked. Difficult to find but otherwise very satisfied.

Description
The Sandringham is a well-established, family run Hotel, with good service and friendly atmosphere. It is situated in the heart of the City of Cardiff and only a few minutes walk from the many Shopping Malls and Arcades, of which the City is justly proud; and just a "long pass" from the famous Millennium Stadium.
Please note that we have five flights of stairs but unfortunately no elevator in the building.
Amenities includes Banquet facilities, Bar Conference facilities, Dry cleaning, Internet access Wireless, Non-smoking rooms, Reception, Restaurant.
Breakfast is included.

Good value, though not perfect

Overall, I liked my stay here. I booked a single room but ended up with a nice, big double which has its own good-sized bathroom. It was all very clean and reasonably quiet, and the location is excellent, really close to Cardiff Central Station, not a far walk from Cardiff Castle, and in the midst of many restaurants and shops. The breakfast is yummy, too.
The cons: supposedly there's free wi-fi throughout the hotel, but my hotel room was at the end of the hall and I got no reception whatsoever. If I walked a few rooms down or to the lobby I could usually get a decent signal, but it was awkward and inconvenient to not be able to be in my own room.
Also, maybe it's just me but I found the beds hard and super uncomfortable. I was glad I had two beds, because this allowed me to sleep on top of one duvet and use the other as a blanket.

I would recommend it to a friend. It was more than expected when I saw my room. Good room size, good service and very helpful and friendly staffs.
Could hear movement when people walking and talking on the stairs, corridor and from the next room snoring! Poor floor and wall noise insulation. Otherwise it was a nice hotel to stay. No regrets.
