Stayed here for only one night on our anniversary - wish we had stayed longer. Facilities in the hotel were good - well equipped gym, small family pool, quiet restaurant and bar...Hotel staff were super helpful. Within walking distance of bars, restaurants, shops - we parked our car in the car park and walked everywhere. Only draw back was having to pay £20 for parking - it would have been nice to have it included in the price of the room!

I have paid more and got much less

  • Liamski
  • Jan 10, 2012
The staff were friendly and helpful; however, they were not over bearing. This place was good value for money and although I got it at £103 for 3 nights it would have been worth more. When you think the travel lodge around the corner would have cost £30 more it is amazing to stay here for this price. Some might complain that the room was to the back go ahead, or that the room was smallish go ahead but for me the fact that it was clean, in a good location and i could come and go as i wanted was perfect. As a room only option it is great because the sea and the cafe's are literally across the road and there is even coffee republic in the hotel. If you want over the top pretention i suggest you pay for it and if you want the cosyness of B&B then go for that, otherwise this is a perfect place to stay and explore Brighton. The only things to remember are ear plugs as clubs near the side may get a bit noisy, and the swipe card for the room sometimes needs doing at reception but the staff are attentive. (it ran out twice on me during the stay of three nights). Towels are chnaged daily when you reqeust and the cleaner will even leave you to sleep in the afternoon if you put a sign on your door.

Located by the sea side in front of the second pier. It is 15-20mns walk from the centre (Brighton isn't very spread so it isn't a problem) and location is perfect for a romantic weekend away. Pleasant staff, room clean and quiet. Hotel has a nice Business / corporate look and feel. It is part of a chain so you know quality will be here.

  • Nov 20, 2011
All in all a tired hotel,as clean as is possible though,Staff efficient rather than friendly. The biggest problem was the huge amount of drinking that spilled out from the bar into the lobby band outside with those drinkers that smoked. Very noisy in the corridors with doors slamming and very loud voices well into the night. Management were not available and night staff could/would not do much if anything. Constant police sirens through the night.

Excellent location, but a shadow

  • Anonymous
  • Apr 4, 2011
Excellent location, but a shadow of its obvious former glory. Busy, under-staffed reception area. No clear communication about breakfast or checking out times. No one answered when telephoning the reception desk from the room. The hotel just needs a bit of modernisation, or just more care and attention. The room was basic and 'tired'. I would consider staying there again, but only based on the cheap rate and not because of the facilities or service.

as a elite radisson member and a frequent of this chain, my wife and i were incredibly disappointed with this hotel. this is in fact the first time i've been disappointed enough to write a negative review about a hotel. we arrived and were told that their comptuer systems were down. some people would say that this is not there fault, but i feel in this day and age this is no excuse - a ruined trip is a ruined trip. we were unable to stay at the hotel. the one bright note is the staff were amazing however and did their best to find us another room. this unfortunately took 3 hours. we ended up checking into another hotel after 11pm, which basically ruined our trip. it would have been better to just arrive the next day. what a waste of time and money. we will definitely not be staying here again and would recommend anyone else staying there.

Disappointed that we were told

  • Ann
  • Nov 22, 2010
Disappointed that we were told it had smoking rooms but on arrival were informed all rooms are non smoking. The view from the window was of a roof and some part of the hotel maintenance area. The hotel is old as the housekeeper pointed out and has a lot of history attached to it, however the floor in our room was sloping so the drawers would not shut on the bedside cabinet and our room door had to be slammed heavily to close it which I am sure was not enjoyed by our neighbours. These are factors that some might describe as giving the hotel character, however I felt they let the four star rating down. The room was comfortable, clean and tastefully decorated. The staff were pleasant and the bar area was lovely as was the restaurant however as to be expected the prices in the hotel were a tad expensive. It was a good base for a short break.

The room was great, the staff were excellent, value for money was good. The downside was that the bed was really lumpy and uncomfortable, which was surprising considering the room & bathroom had been newly refurbished. The full english breakfast and the scrambled eggs were awful, but the fruit & yoghurt was great! Would recommend it as a value for money hotel in a great location but dont pay extra for the breakfast.

Beautiful hotel and room but small details missing

A beautiful hotel and room, excellent breakfast, spa fantastic and staff very helpful. The small things let them down in the room - no sink plug, toilet didn't flush properly, stained carpet. However, this wouldn't stop me staying again as the overall package was lovely.

My daughter and I stayed here

  • Joanne

My daughter and I stayed here when travelling around country England. We enjoyed our stay and the young gentleman in reception could not have been more helpful. I wish I had his name to mention here. The hotel was once houses and this adds to its charm. The room was very large and comfortable. The bathroom was fine. We would stay there again however it was a reasonable walk to Brighton Pier and centre of town. But it was not onerous.

I thought that for a 2* hotel, the stay was very good. Although the building could do with some modernisation and redecoration, the room that we had was large, with views over the beach and sea. It had a great ceiling to floor bay window and a recently renovated ensuite bathroom with a spacious shower. The staff were friendly and the buffet breakfast had a good range of options. We had a great stay.

The room turned out to be a closet

The room turned out to be a closet with minimum space. The bathroom facilities were functioning, but makeshift. Quite nice public spaces at ground level do not correspond to the habitacle we were supposed to sleep in.

Good value for a sea front location. The small bar is smart & comfortable but sadly no real ale ! My room was quite small so a larger person or someone with loads of luggage may find it cramped. Staff friendly & helpful

5 star service, but not 5 star room

  • maria
  • Aug 30, 2010
It was our 10th wedding anniversary so we decided to treat ourselves to a night in a five star hotel, The Grand in Brighton. Although the service we received was in deed very good the room wasn't. We were situated in room 132 on the first floor and it was very hot and the windows were screwed shut but the worst thing was the noise of the hotels main air conditioning unit situated outside, it did in fact keep us awake most of the night, We did mention in on check out and the receptionist said oh yes that's because we have all the internal workings of the hotel on the ground floor and they would of provided us with a mobile air conditioner for the heat but that would of made the noise twice as bad!! All in all we were a little dissapointed with our 5 star experience, although as mentioned the service at breakfast and in the lounge was good. Granted we did book late and though another web site but was still hoping for a wonderful night. Also decor getting a little tired looking could do with a paint and their were loose tiles in the bathroom. Nice hotel but dont feel it was 5 star.

Being a top hotel in this region

  • Brian
  • Jul 17, 2010
Being a top hotel in this region we expected to at least have a room that you could see out of the window, the room had a fridge but only contained 2 bottle's of water, whereas for the amount of money spent for the room, we expected to have the fridge full that would have been used making more money for the hotel. The hotel also needed quite a bit of renovation
