The hotel was easy to find from the train station and mere blocks from the Abbey and Roman Baths. The room was simple but beautiful. It was very clean. No mini fridge to keep food in, but we were only staying one night so that was ok. It's also right next to a large grocery store so it was easy to run out and grab food. I would definitely come back.

Description
The BEST WESTERN Abbey Hotel is in our humble opinion the best located tourist hotel in Bath - the Roman Baths, Abbey, Pulteney Bridge, Thermae Spa, shopping and a varied menu of restaurants nearby make it almost impossible to come to any other conclusion! The great news is that tons of tours leave from the hotel to make sure your stay is packed to the stylish rafters with even more interest and intrigue! Train and bus stations are no distance away, and public parking by the Police Station means you'll enjoy reassurance while you rest. Built as part of the Grand Design in 1742, BEST WESTERN Abbey Hotel is crammed with character, but offers all the modern convenience you'd expect from a friendly 3 star hotel. We also play host to the delightful Bath Tearooms (in the same Georgian building), so traditional tastiness is never far away! Weather permitting; all our food can be served on our terrace - but come rain or shine our modern British lunches and suppers will be a breath of fresh air!

Best location in Bath!

  • Sylvain C.
  • Jan 12, 2012
This hotel is very well located, just in the middle of the historical section, i.e. the Roman Bath, as well as the new Thermae Bath Spa. The City tours are starting just in front of the hotel. You can just walk around to appreciate the beautiful architecture of that city, near the water channel and the Pulteney bridge. There is a bunch of very good restaurant around the hotel too, including one in the hotel. The hotel is comfortable and the staff is pleasant and accomodating too. Very good stay at this hotel and in Bath city!

Description
Renowned for its hot spring baths dating back to Roman times- Bath is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating towns in Europe. The equally impressive Royal Crescent Hotel invites you to a journey back in time to the 18th century. This majestic residence is one of the major works of the architect John Wood who- at that time- was commissioned by the Queen to give the medieval town a facelift. With its splendid manicured gardens and its chic- opulent interiors- staying at The Royal Crescent Hotel is like stepping straight into the pages of a novel by the famous local writer Jane Austen. The hotel has a highly reputed spa of its own and charming- supremely elegant rooms. Venture out and explore this fascinating Georgian town- with marvels like the fan vaulting in Bath Abbey- the temple of the Goddess Sulis Minerva- the arcades of Union Passage- and the typical charm of George Street- Milsom Street and Queen Street. On your return- retire to the Spa for the very best in pampering and relaxation.

Homewood Park is a very gracious country house hotel near Bath and one of the loveliest country house hotels in the West Country. Set in beautiful countryside it is only six miles from Bath and only 30 minutes from the M4. Homewood Park has received many accolades and much praise for the service and facilities provided and guests always appreciate the warm welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. Indeed many tell us its their ideal home in the country Homewood Park Luxury Country House Hotel Hinton Charterhouse Near Bath. Guests always enjoy a stroll in the ten acres of beautiful gardens which under the supervision of Steven Hargreaves were awarded 1st prize in the actively contested Bath in Bloom competition in 1998 1999 and 2000 2005 creating a wonderfully attractive and peaceful environment for the hotel and restaurant. Although the main part of the building is Georgian with some Victorian additions the foundations of the original building date from the 13th C when we believe the house belonged to the Abbot of the nearby Carthusian Priory. The Priory may be seen in the direction of Hinton Charterhouse village across the A36. The drawing room study and bar are furnished to ensure guests enjoy comfort and unassuming luxury by the log fires during the winter months. For the warmer months of the year the award winning gardens offer privacy and interest.

Purpose of my visit was tourism and a little "me" time. Facility is gorgeous, truly a great environment to relax. Room was spacious, well kept and contained the most comfortable hotel bed I've slept in. Food was great, staff was very accommodating. Only negative would be location (a bit out of Bath if Bath is your main purpose). But the grounds, scenery and facility are top notch.

Tiny rooms!

Very nice, very clean hotel with plentiful complimentary breakfast & courteous staff. Within walking distance of town (though a bit of a hike; not actually "on the doorstep"). Hotel has no restaurant & bar doesn't serve bar food, but they do have a small "mini-grocery" & microwave to facilitate snacking. Sole complaint was size of quad room - smallest I have EVER encountered in a lifetime of family travel. Only one person could walk at a time (literally) and suitcases had to be stacked 4 tall on the one surface big enough to accomodate them. Biggest problem was that 2nd bed wasn't a sofabed (so that it could be folded out of the way until needed) - just a thin mattress on an exceedingly low, uncomfortable frame. My sons said it was the most uncomfortable night they'd ever spent in a hotel. Proprieters should probably stop advertising quads and stick to catering to singles/couples.

This was a standard Holiday Inn Express. For US folks, be aware they do not have eggs/bacon or cinnimon rolls like we have...just the basics for breakfast (cold rolls & simple bread for toast -- no bagels or english muffins). Also, they charge 6 BP (as I recall) per night to park. The price for what you get is high -- but you're paying for location. A slightly creepy detail for those that care (which I didn't) -- there is cemetary behind the hotel - made me think of that commercial on TV.

Over all the experience was fine. Take a GPS cause it is hard to find without one. We came in from Stonehenge side and would have never picked that road to look down. Thank technology for GPS. Nice location, had just been painted. Rooms were small and the floors were uneven. For the age I guess you kind of have to expect that. Beds need a little help. Over all for the price - nice stay

Good Things include; Walk into town not too far, beautiful scenery on the way too. £5 parking for entire stay, that's great for Bath. Lovely building, restored well and decorated tastefully. Got some nice photo's outside the next day. Molton Brown Toiletries were great. Robes included made the visit to the spa more comfortable. Decent sized pool. The outside pool at the spa was gorgeous both at night and during the day. The spa was well maintained. Things for improvement; At time of booking it wasn't clear that breakfast was not included. No indication about it being room only. I politely mentioned this to the check in staff and she looked at me like she didn't care at all. Otherwise all staff were lovely - again in my opinion ignore any previous reviews in this respect. We ended up having breakfast in town for £4.95 each much better than the hotel at £16 each. Check in and out required waiting in line for a while - not really a problem but I couldn't see why it was so slow. Very few TV channels if your interested in that, we weren't but we did want the TV to have some radio stations which it didn't. Light bulb blown in room and TV remote control missing. Had to contact reception 3 times. Switch to listen to TV/radio in bathroom didn't work. No biscuits with tea and coffee making facilities and very little milk. Drafty window/doors - thankfully the curtains were really thick. Mattress really soft but adequate. Phoned ahead to request a double room (i.e. double bed) and still got two single beds made up together. But the lady on the phone was lovely. The bathroom tiles around the bath could do with a bit of a scrub.

We stayed in Bath one night to get an early chance to get to Stonehenge. The hotel has gorgeous landscaping. It is quiet and pretty. The room got warm and the thermostat was not the best especially considering the price of the hotel. Most of the staff were very pleasant but the 2 women checking us in were almost rude. We were excited to be in Bath so we didn't let the rudeness and impolite behavior bother us.

Description
The Redcar Hotel is an elegant Georgian Town House Hotel in the lovely city of Bath and situated beside Henrietta Park. We can be reached by a pleasant walk over Pulteney Bridge into the largely traffic free city centre. Henrietta Street, on which The Redcar Hotel stands, was designed between 1788 and 1792 by Sir William Pulteney and named after his daughter Henrietta Laura Pulteney. Three Georgian town houses were first converted into a Hotel in 1949. It was later sold to an organization owned by the famous entertainers Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdinck, who then spent a large amount of money extending and developing this fine hotel.

One of the worst mattresses I have slept on in any hotel. Very lumpy and well past it's useby date. Wi-fi did not work in my room - had to go down to the ground floor.

Useless if you have luggage

  • Dave
  • Dec 22, 2010
Hotel was as expected and did the job but we were disappointed that having arrived in Bath in the morning before the check in time, the hotel refused to let us store our luggage anywhere. They let us check in early which we did reluctantly because they charged an extra £10 for this. Having also booked an evening train on the day we left we had to drag our luggage around Bath for the day. I think Travelodge were expecting us to wear the same clothes day and night during our stay!
