We visited this hotel for the first time 40 years ago. It was a lively and upbeat place then. Now it gave us the impression of trying hard not to slip away into oblivion. The room was small and the view out of the window blocked by a cement wall. The bathroom lacked ventilation. The food was good, particularly breakfast, which was the best we had in Switzerland, but the choices for lunch/dinner were rather limited. There was a small bar in the hotel, but no barkeep ever made an appearance. The room, however, did have a minibar. Parking was available. All in all an above average hotel, but nothing outstanding.

Magnificent location, a few steps from the center of Ascona and the lake Lago Maggiore. Restaurant with panoramic view. Rooms recently refurbished with bathrooms and balcony. Sunny spot. TV, radio, phone, mini bar, hair dryer, Internet access. Free pool, sauna, solarium, bikes and fitness. Special rate for families in villas. Great park/Botanical garden. Covered parking. Excellent starting point for excursion to Valley Verzasca, Maggia, Centovalli, Brissago Island and other typical Ticino Tourist attraction: great hiking, boating and sailing, vineyards visiting and extreme sports. Great Event: JazzAscona Festival New Orleans, Int. Film Festival of Locarno, Ascona's Musical Weeks. The hotel offers free shuttle bus service from Locarno train station.

schmudliges,renovationsüberdürftiges Hotel Schwimmbad ( mit Kunststoffklarsichtdach überdeckt) befindet sich unterhalb des Hotels in einem älteren Gebäude. Zimmerpreise und sind total überrissen. Parkmöglichkeiten für Autos nur für geübte Fahrer. Wie kommt ein solches Hotel zu dieser offiziellen 3* Bewertung?
