Perfect location, iconic Granada hotel

  • Corporate Mum
  • Jun 3, 2012
A very central hotel in the heart of the city. We were able to comfortably walk to all the major sights including the Alhambra. I felt glad we weren't further along towards the Plaza Nueva as the NH Victoria is in a more upmarket area. The great location meant that we were able to pop back to the hotel in the middle of the day for our young daughter to take naps or to change nappies, etc. [Warning to parents of babies, there appear to be very very few baby changing facilities in Spain which is v strange given the number of parents/babies we saw walking around. On a couple of occasions during our tour of Andalucia, we even had to find a sheltered corner, recline the pushchair and do an open-air change as there was literally nowhere else to go!]. We had only a couple of concerns about this hotel. One is that the rooms were not very large compared to UK/US hotels but that is pretty much always the case in Europe. The staff were generally helpful and gave advice on places we had planned to visit, providing directions and maps to various locations. Our major gripe was that on arrival there was no-one available to help getting our suitcases from the underground car park (3 storeys down) to our room on the 2nd floor. It was a Sunday and there appeared to be minimal staff on duty. They did take our luggage down when we checked out and were helpful in many other regards but we were quite shocked when my husband found he had to push the luggage trolley back and forth himself. The car park is very convenient although it is a public car park and is pretty expensive at EUR20 per 24hrs with no special discount for hotel guests. The central location means that there was a lot of people/vehicles passing by our window pretty much all around the clock but the windows were v effectively soundproofed and even our young daughter was not disturbed by outside noise. There are places to eat literally on the doorstep of the hotel which is why we didn't eat at the hotel. Like some travellers' reviews I saw on other sites, on arrival at the hotel we were offered a 'special' EUR10.80pp breakfast rate as we had booked room only. We ended up not taking it as we were able to eat at one of the pavement cafes for EUR12 for three of us (although that was just croissants, toasted buns, tea and juice rather than a full cooked breakfast offered by the hotel). Overall, we were happy with this hotel and felt that it was a very convenient, safe central location and we would happily stay here again.

Great hotel

I really enjoyed my stay in this hotel and would definitely use it again if I returned to Granada. The rooms are excellent and the staff were great, very welcoming. The location's busy, but good for getting most places that you might want to go and it's got a great wealth of dining options nearby as well as good quality food in the hotel (the jamon and cheese plate that I had the first night was just what the Dr ordered after a long day's travelling).

wonderful hotel, great location

  • Jul 9, 2011
the hotel was perfectly located on a small, well-known lively street with lots of bars/rest. They gave us a complimentary bottle of bubbly to celebrate our honeymoon. They have free wi-fi in the rooms, which were tidy and clean. As with the other hotels in Spain, they have 2 twin beds pushed together which they describe as a 'double bed'. I would highly recommend staying here.

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The staff were very helpful and the internet blazingly fast. Parking was easy in the area and the bus downtown came every 15 minutes. We didn't even bother with a cab. The buffet breakfast was reasonable and if you just want coffee and toast, it was included without charge.

Great place to stay

  • Jul 6, 2012
Hotel Juan Miguel is located close to the Cathedral and is not too difficult to reach. The staff is courteous and incredibly helpful, especially since they are there 24/7 to assist with anything. The breakfast buffet (which I did not end up taking) seemed a little bit expensive for what was offered, but I'm sure it would have been fine if you wanted it. The staff is excellent and professional-- would recommend it!

The staff was very helpful and great at answering any questions that we had about the area as well as addressing any issues that we had. The location is convenient and located near a couple cafes. Also, the fact that the reception is 24 hours is great. The only thing is that the breakfast was a little overpriced, I think (we only glanced at it, but it didn't seem like anything exceptional to be worth the price), but it was optional for our reservation so it wasn't a big deal.

A bit difficult to find if you have rental car but hotel directions were good. Problem is related to street signs ( lack of them). Excellent location very close to the Alhambra and a lot of restaurants. Staff was very nice, especially Elisa. Restaurant next to it was very good with good early hours. Away from busy area so room was very quiet. Room was nice and functional. Only problem was shower door did not close properly so water leaked out to floor. Would stay there again.

cute rooms. windows that open. plenty of parking. little fridges to cool drinks. The location is fantastic. it's about 50 - 75 yards to the Alhambra entrance. There's also a fantastic pizza joint just down the street. The pool is great as well. Rooms are shaped differently, but we had a great time staying there. Just park the car and walk to the Alhambra. Also take the public bus straight into old town Granada for the sights.

The door of the Granadas indeed!

  • HawaiianPun
  • Aug 22, 2012
Puerta de las Granadas does, indeed, provide the perfect doorway to so many parts of Granada, sitting as it does almost equidistant from the Alhambra, Albaicin, and Sacromonte, plus Plaza Nueva and the Cathedral, the areas of which hold all the shopping and restaurants you could possibly need on your visit. Great deal, great location.

Greeted by pleasant staff who notified us that our tour company contacted them. Our room was perfect, however the bathroom needs a new ventalation system and new shower doors. We were only in Granada for one night with Alhambra being our focus - the hotel is a ten minute walk down Alhambra with little shops to stops at on the way down. Also very close to Plaza Nueva and the Cathedral.

Escape to La Alambra

This hotel was the best one of our two week stay in Spain. Extremely clean, updated, very nice and helpful staff. If you are driving a car, you will have to pay 15 euros a day to park your car in their very cramped parking garage. It is quite a LONG walk from the Alambra, but there is a bus that goes there nearby. Very nice exterior with a fountain. Had a kind sized bed, fridge, and a big window with a nice view. We would stay here again! Very good value for what you get!!!

The hotel was clean, upgraded nicely. There was a safe in the room-perfect to lock up the valuables we left in the room. The "queen bed" was two twins pushed together, but it was comfortable. The front desk staff was very helpful--most spoke some english. There was a bar in the hotel that was open at night to get drinks. The hotel also offered a 'breakfast,' but we did not buy it. The location of the hotel is somewhat away from the 'center' of town--on a quiet street. It was a safe and easy 20 minute walk to get to the more lively part of town. There were a few hotels closer to town--but we saw people dragging their luggage from small alley ways to the main street to get a taxi. we didnt have to do that--we had the front desk call for a taxi and it was there to pick us up within 10 minutes. It was a good value. we would stay there again and recommend it. it has a beautiful pool (no spa), but it was too cold for us to swim.

We were staying in Granada for one night and this hotel was the best value for the money. It is very nicely decorated and staff is helpful. Hotel room was comfortable and the bathroom was beautiful. The pool area was beautiful with fountains and great after a hot day at the Alhambra. The only drawback is that it is not too close to the center of town; however, it is one block from the bus line and the taxi stand.

Hard to find due to lots of construction but a very nice hotel. Excellent staff, very helpful. Room was very small but nicely decorated and furnished. Internet on TV. Good lighting for reading, etc. Parking cost and breakfast at reasonable prices. Room cost was VERY low and a great deal considering the quality.

Aside from this hotel being surrounded by construction making it nearly impossible to reach, the place was great. Spacious rooms, friendly staff, and a decent restaurant made our stay enjoyable. Free parking would have been nice, but it was cheaper than any nearby garages.

The staff was helpful. The only problem was the extra charge for parking...18 euros per day but it was conveniently located across the street from the hotel. we had breakfast at the cafe on the corner of Madrid st and gran via...it was the. Best toast I've ever tasted! Fresh orange juice is a must! We had an easy time driving intro & out of the city.We walked to the cathedral for Mass and everywhere else including the Alhumbra. We were there for 3 days. Granada is a wonderful city!

Our family of four traveled through Andalusia by car and stayed 2 nights in Granada mainly to see the Alhambra. While this hotel was not close it is on a major street and relatively easy to navigate from and to. Unlike other 3-star hotels we stayed at there were no hair dryers or in-room wifi but otherwise the rooms were clean and comfortable.

The Hotel has two small mudejar buildings built in the first third of the 16th Century. Crossing the small hall at the entrance, the voyager will be fascinated by the interior beauty of the Patio of the paintings with its fountain, columns, balustrade, ornamental tile and in particular by the renaissance paintings conferred to Alejandro Mayner and Giulio Romano, disciples of Rafael, who came to Granada in 1520 to paint the Peinador de la Reina in the Alhambra and... the Palacio de Santa Ins.

Perfect location for historic immersion

  • Anonymous
  • Oct 29, 2008
The Hotel Palacio Santa Ines is elegant & ancient - a combination of two 16th century houses tucked up a Cuestra (tiny connecting street) of the same name. It is a half block from the river and a view of the Alhambra and a prime walking street for a sense of old Granada. The room was very nice - beautiful (but not huge) bath. The public rooms were the classic center courtyards of the palacios, covered with skylights. All around the hotel is the historic district and just up hte hill (a bit of a walk but quite doable) was the Alhambra. The staff was very nice. My recommendation would be to park at the first car park you come to and arrive by bus or taxi, but the hotel did seem to arrange for parking somewhere.

Great location, amenities, and service!

  • monikak
  • Mar 6, 2012
We had a great experience at the Hotel Casa del Capitel Nazari in February 2012. We arrived very early (around 9:30 am) due to an early flight and assumed we would just drop our bags off so we could start exploring the city, but the reception clerks very kindly checked us in and gave us our room key right away. We were in room 23, which is small and and has two twins instead of a full or queen, but for one night it was fine. The bathroom is also tight, but totally serviceable. The heaters were on, so the room was nice and cozy as soon as we got in (which was great because it was an icy morning!). The wi-fi worked well (remember to ask for a password at reception when you check in or you'll have to go back downstairs to get one). Even though the beds didn't seem too comfortable when we sat on them, we had no problem sleeping at all. The following morning we had the continental breakfast because it came with our reservation. It was a really good hotel continental breakfast (quite possibly the best we'd ever had), but maybe not worth 9 euros each, given that most people wouldn't want to spend 9 euros each on any continental breakfast. But we did enjoy the variety of standard continental breakfast items (yogurt, granola, hard-boiled eggs) combined with some local specialties, like bee pollen, fruit and vegetable preserves, etc. We checked out at about 9:30 am, but left our bags because we planned to explore the Albayzin that morning and see the Alhambra in the afternoon and our flight didn't leave till late that night. Again, the reception clerk was very gracious, let us know what time to catch the bus back to the airport that night, and encouraged us to come back to use the restrooms, take tea/coffee in the afternoon, and relax in the salon if we needed to during the day (which we did). In addition to all this, the location really can't be beat. It was a great home base for exploring the Albayzin by foot, it was only a few minutes walk from the Cathedral and the buses to the Alhambra and Albayzin, and it was close to a variety of places to eat and drink. It's also easy to find if you're walking from the Cathedral where the airport bus lets you off. You just walk towards and through Plaza Nueva and then there are signs naming the hotel, leading you in the right direction. One last note is that although we were able to reserve the room with AE, upon arrival we had to pay for the room with V or MC. This didn't pose a problem for us, but seems like it could for some folks so I wanted to point it out.

Excellent Location

  • Jan 21, 2011
The hotel is located next to Plaza Nueva. Easy access to The Alhambra via walking. The staff is super helpful. I did not have reservations to The Alhambra and Rocio, one of the staff members, was able to provide a reservation and gave us an explanation of how to get to most of the sites. The Albaizin is a great neighboorhood to walk around and experience the feel for Old Granada. Many books say that it is dangerous at night, but we did not feel unsafe at all throughout the 3 nights we stayed. The rooms are small and there are not too many amenities in the hotel but it compensates with charm and cleanliness. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Granada.
