Great location if you are in a cruise. 5-8 minute walk and you are in Las Ramblas. Also a 10 minute walk from Maremagnum Mall. Ask for a sea view room. The views are breath taking.

Description
The Ohla Hotel is built on the site of a former Roman water canal and the palace of the first Count of Barcelona, Guifre el Pilos. The current building dates back 20 years and was initially the site of Barcelona's first department store (Casa Vilardell). The building was renovated under the direction of Alonso, Balaguer y Arquitectos Asociados with artistic assistance by Frederic Amat. During the renovation, the historical building facade and other historical elements of the initial building have been preserved in their entirety, whilst the interior design of the building is avant-garde in its approach, combining different white and black textures with oak wood. The end result is a 74-room boutique hotel with conference facilities, a wellness center, sundeck and a variety of dining options in a luxurious setting with all of the details and personalized service one would expect from an establishment whose goal is nothing short of excellence.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay at Ohla in Feb 2012. There are several reasons why I think this should not be rated a 5 star hotel though.
1. We had booked a Junior Suite and was given a room on the third floor. While we are from NYC and used to street noise, the low floor and poor insulation made for a tremendous amount of noise at night. Additionally, you can hear and feel the Metro underneath. Asked to switch rooms after the first night and was accommodated to a new room on the 4th floor the next day. The new room was minimally better in terms of noise, but a lot larger. I don't think there should be this much discrepancy in the size of the room when they are both suppose to be junior suites. I would not consider any of the x06 rooms suites.
2. Concierge - While they were all nice and helpful, they lacked some basic knowledge. I had asked to book some day trips to outer Barcelona and was told only the Montserrat trip was running and was told to go to the central tourist information in placa de catalunya. I thought the point of a concierge at a five star hotel was to take care of this for me. Not being satisfied, I did a brief (5 minute) google search and found a travel site with an office 3 blocks from the hotel that offered day trips to not only Montserrat, but Sitges, Costa Brava, Pyrennes, etc. The concierge should be able to find these things out for me and not blatantly tell me no day tours exists.
The good:
1. While there were problems with noise, the location in the heart of Central Barcelona, within walking distance of Placa de Catalunya and Las Ramblas is hard to beat.
Other Comments:
1. Tried Sauc, the 1 Michelin star restaurant in the hotel. The ambience is lacking with low ceilings (secondary to it's Mezzanine location). Food is average.
2. Breakfast was average to a little above average. Can't really go wrong with breakfast.
Conclusion:
While the location in the heart of the city was good and allowed for easy access to most sites, I would likely stay elsewhere on a return trip to Barcelona. Hotels such as the Mandarin Oriental and Hotel Arts de Barcelona are only minimally more expensive. The Mandarin Oriental has an equally good location. If Ohla hotel fixed the noise issue and knowledgebase of their concierge staff, I would consider them an above average 4 star hotel.

The Alma Barcelona was perfect for my short stay. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the rooms were large and comfortable, and the location as good as possible - I could not recommend it more highly.

The main reason for the trip is to get spa treatments in the hotel. It was plus having the hotel right next to the beach and port. Nice options next to the hotel for restaurants. The consierge was real helpful with any questions we might have in regards to good within the area to try for whichever evening we wanted to go eat. I love this HOTEL! I can't find anything I would want better. Everything was perfect.

Nice location just away from the craziness and noise of Las Ramblas. In the midst of the higher end shopping zone and a moderate walk or short taxi to all of the sites. Everything about this hotel is a class act. Pricey but worth it.

We stayed at Casa Fuster for two nights after our 7 night Med. Cruise. The cruise had a very early departure and we pretty much stubbled in sleepily into the hotel. Not expecting our room to be ready in anyway they promised to get it ready as soon as possible and set us up in the 1st floor lounge which was super quiet at 8am and wonderful couches to catch some light sleep on till our room opened. The staff was always extremely courtious to us while we waited. After probably two hours one the front desk staff saw us and called down to the front desk asking if our room was ready, it was YAY!.
Our room was even better than the photos online if you can believe it! Extremely comfy bed and we didn't mind it being two separate beds pushed together as my husbands has a tendency to steal the covers in the middle of the night, so I didn't have to worry about cover stealing, YAY again!
The room had a little foyer if you will and then led to the main room with a walk in closet/dressing room and a gorgeous bathroom with separate jacuzzi tub and huge shower. The shower we couldn't ever figure out how to turn it off completely, so it would drip a little. They gave us more plush robes and slippers than we could even ask for.
As it was raining we ordered room service for lunch, I got pizza and my husband got a fillet steak, both which were very delicious! It also arrived within 25 mins of ordering on a beautiful table.
The only issue I had with the room is the speaker for the tv is located in the bathroom. Not really an issue unless someone closes the doors to the bathroom when in use, then it was difficult to hear the tv.
The staff always knew us as we came and went, went out of their way to help us with baggage, give us suggestions on places to go and give us a map with directions.
Is it more expensive than some hotels in Barcelona, yes, but you definitely get what you pay for and more. Plus internet is Free. Which I couldn't believe when searching for hotels that many of the 5 star hotels charged for internet. We stayed at another hotel closer to Las Rambals one night before the cruise, a 4 star hotel. The walls were so thin, we heard every single noise and conversation around our room. In comparison, Casa Fuster was heaven.
After a few hours there resting we agreed we would never stay anywhere else again in Barcelona. Thank you to the wonderful staff and hotel for making the final days of our vacation so wonderful and relaxing.

Excellent séjour à Barcelone, accueil agréable , ville magique, etc.... L’hôtel et son personnel sont très agréables. La seule remarque négative concerne les toilettes. Toilettes dans la chambre dont la porte est en verre dépoli et ne ferme pas complètement. En clair, lorsque j'étais allongé sur le lit , je pouvais voir ma compagne sur son "trône" ... c'est là où la promiscuité empiète sur l'intimité. c'est déplaisant et c'est la seule fausse note....

Great Price close to airport

We stayed here in order to stay near the airport, but within 25 minute metro ride to Barcelona. The hotel was very clean and has a fantastic bathroom. Although you have to take the metro or their shuttle to get into the city, it was an easy 4 minute walk to the metro station.
The major drawback is the cost of the breakfast buffet. We found a grocery store in the neighborhood and just brought in our our own breakfast goodies. Also, don't count on taking the shuttle FROM the airport as you won't be able to fine it. The cab is 25-30 euros which is exorbitant considering how close the hotel is to the airport...oh, well!

We where there to early to check in. They held our luggage so we could go see the sights while the room was prepared. The room was just fantastic. PRISTINE!
The Service desk was very helpful and fast to act to every demand. The soak tub was fantastic. The terrace was so relaxing to drink our tea.

Right off Las Ramblas, the main street in the center of Barcelona one block from the highly efficient metro, near many restaurants and bars. Internet provided but you must re-log on every 30 mins. Barcelona is a walking town (in our case the weather was perfect) and this hotel made the Gothic area as well as the shopping areas readily available. Also, do not miss the "farmers market" about a block down Las Ramblas toward the sea.
Barcelona is a great city, not to be missed. Excellent architecture of well built and well kept buildings and very clean streets. At the top of my list of world favorite cities and I have been to a large number of major cities in the world.
The Gaudi church and the Roman Ruins were my favorite visits.

We had a greta time at the hotel, the staff were very helpful indeed and the entire site kept to a high standard. You will definitely enjoy your stay, just be careful at night when walking back to the hotel as there are some not so welcoming pickpockets and 'working ladies' close by...

Mineralwasser im Kühlschrank und ein "Bettmüpferli" auf dem Nachttisch sind geschätzte Aufmerksamkeiten. Ein superfeines Morgen Buffet mit frischen Beeren und was das Herz sonst noch begehrt.
Gut gelegen Shopping und Kultur in nächster Nähe.
Etwas wenig Platz um die Kleider aufzuhängen und persönliches einzuräumen. Dachterrasse kompensiert den fehlenden Balkon.

The hotel is located right in the center of the city within easy walking distance to most attractions (Placa de Catalunya, Sagrada Familia, La Rambla etc.). The train station is also just a block away which makes it very easy to get to and from the airport.
Currently the hotel is being renovated and there are scaffoldings all around the building but I did not notice any noise early in the morning or at night so it was not a problem.
I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

A group of Wonderful and helpful people at this hotel. The hotel rooms are modern with bi-lingaul TV for English and other European languages. Lovely roof top pool and food and bar services.

Very Friendly welcome and staff. Food in roof top restaurant superb, atmosphere ok but very cold needs better insulation! Bedroom was clean, bed not the best sloped to middle! very minimalistic lacked luxury certainly not the best 5star i've stayed in. Television channels limited only news channel in english again would expect better choice of english channels/movie choice of a 5star. Also disappointed that Pool was empty guess out of season, but should state that that in hotel details. Very good location easily accessible to Metro. Nice area. Would definitely go back to Barcelona but probably wouldn't choose this particular hotel.

This hotel is located away from the crowds of Ramblas, but is convenient by taxi and tour bus. There is always a taxi line outside, the tour bus picks up 1 block away, and there is a nice view from the upper floors. The staff was multi-lingual and quite friendly, and the room was very comfortable.
The only complaint is that the pool and jacuzzi are part of the spa, and are not free. The jacuzzi water is barely warm, and the pool attendant said that it is supposed to be 30 degrees, and no warmer, and it closes at 9:30. The breakfast is quite good, and the orange juice is even better, but the drinks at the bar are 10 Euro each. Quite expensive!
Overall, I would recommend this hotel and would stay here again, but would have avoided the hotel bar and not planned to use the jacuzzi unless I was planning on a spa experience.

Overall good. location excellent and staff very friendly. Only issue is that the room I was given had no windows...... Unfortunately I could get a normal room (with window....) only for the second day. So watch out when you book this hotel because there are about 7 rooms (out of a total of about 35) that have no windows!!!

Great location with easy access for walking to landmarks, great shopping and resturants, metro, or buses. Hotel staff was very accomidating and friendly. Room and bathroom were well appointed with a comfortable feeling. Room was facing Las Ramblas, and was pleasantly surprised how well the room was soundproofed. We could also open the door to the balcony to experience the city sounds - best of everything. Lovely additional touches from robes and slippers to nightly turn-down service. As mentioned by another reviewer - the one thing that is hard to see in pictures is that the bathroom door is completly see through. Put a towel over the door to provide some privacy if needed.. Hotel provides 1 hour a day of free wifi. They provided a LAN cable for all day internet access at no charge. Also provided complimentary wine and drink at the bar for special occasion. Would stay there again.

The hotel location is truly magnificent with fabulous views over the city and the sea beyond.
The downside is the time, distance and cost of getting down to the city centre. Taxi fare is about 20 Euros and can be as much as 25 Euros on the return journey, depending on traffic. It is possible to use the funicular railway+ the bus +the Metro but this is a bit arduous if you are going out for dinner. Bear in mind that you will only want to make this journey once a day as it will be too costly and time consuming to return to the hotel after sight seeing and then change to return to the city for the evening.
The food prices at the hotel are extortionate. Breakfast is €28 and it is a buffet, not waiter service !!!
If you are visiting Barcelona to spend time exploring the city centre, then this is not the hotel for you.
However if you want to laze around the infinity pool and soak up the views and the sun it is just the place to be....... Provided you have unlimited funds to wine and dine in the hotel. Alternatively a company sponsored visit may be the ideal solution.
Beds are super-king size and comfortable , shower was excellent and air-con efficient. TV has only News channels in English so a bit disappointing !
If the hotel re-introduced a regular shuttle service to the City centre and offered meals/drinks at realistic prices....... It would be Perfect.

The top level professionalism & hospitality provided by the hotel staff led by Giselle, Anna, Violetta, Hugo among others makes this deserve 5 stars. Well worth the 20 minute/20 euro taxi ride from the city center to top of Tibidabo, with panoramic views and complimentary use of pool and spa with reasonable prices this puts some of the big chain so called 5 star hotels to shame. The wireless Internet did not work in some parts like lobby / bar / spa /restaurant areas and although ok in rooms signal was slow and weak.

the luxury of this hotel is outstanding... if you plan on never leaving the hotel, this is the place to stay. however, plan on paying for wi-fi in your room, which is ridiculous for a hotel of this stature. Location is not good if you plan to wander around central barcelona. It is located at the end of a peninsula and you always have to travel along the whole peninsula to get to and from the main shopping and nightlife areas.

I had to personally go down to lobby to get luggage delivered to room after waiting more than three hours. Telephone system did not seem to work properly. Room was very noisy. A wedding played loud music all night long, keeping us awake even though we were on the eleventh floor. When we left for the airport the next morning, the music was still blaring. Although the hotel was top quality we had a bad stay.

Should be nice to be able to order twin bed. It was really diffficult to arrange it at the hotel. Too few pool chairs, ectra cgarge for fitness center and breakfast.

Well situated in a quiet neighborhood. Staff are friendly and speak enough English to assist English speaking travelers. Easy to walk to major Barcelona attractions and metro stops. Lots of restaurants in surrounding blocks. Great shopping nearby. Rooms are quite small, but comfortable and the bathroom is a nice size. Jetted tub a nice plus. Not sure how this compares to other hotels in the area as this was our first trip to Barcelona, but would stay here again and recommend.
