We loved Inn on the Blue Horizon! Great location and beautiful grounds!! I loved the pool and bar area. Very helpful, polite and personable staff. The restaurant is very nice, expensive but so are all the other nice restaurants in the area. The remote beaches are a must see on Vieques. We went at the end of October and had the place to ourselves! We felt like we were in paradise on a far off island, which I guess... we were! Also do NOT miss the bio bay kayaking tour! Very cool experience they go at night and you can swim in the glowing plankton. It was surreal. We went with Abe's which was fine but you have to have a sense of adventure. Ask your hotel for the best company. Have fun!!

Amazing, Beautiful getaway

The place was great. The hotel beach was all right (once they cleaned out the sea weeds on the last day of my stay), but other beaches on the island offer so much more. I'd strongly suggest to rent a car and explore the island - you'll discover so much! I had lots of issues with the kitchen/restaurant: breakfast omelet served with wrong components a couple of times; room menu catalog differed from what they'd actually cook (they explained their menu changed, but the room catalog hasn't been updated yet); during a dinner - a waitress never came up to our table, then I had to go look for her, so I could sign the bill and leave. The hotel kitchen/restaurant was pretty expensive, but the food was worth it. The hotel itself is overpriced. Overall, it's a great place to visit. I strongly recommend it primarily because of the location.

The purpose of the trip was to spend a long week-end at a warm and relaxing beach in a comfortable hastle-free environment. The W in Vieques is set in a very beautiful environment, the 2 beaches accessible from the hotel are tiny but nice, although the resort is located on the North side of the island, so the waves were strong and the water colder than in other beaches I experiences in the Carrabean. Service was very kind and professional. Decor was perfect. The Mix on the beach restaurant does not have a varied menu but everything we tasted was delicious. For other food choices, you have to drive to Esperanza or other places on the island, nothing else is available within walking distance.
The main disadvantage of the resort is the difficulty to get to the hotel and away from it. The filghts out of the island to San Juan were all booked when we tried to make a reservation as soon as we arrived. The ferry from Fajardo is a risky option. You have to get to the ferry well over an hour in advance, otherwise, there is a substantial risk of not getting on board because priority is given to PR residents. Each time we asked for a cab to go to other places on the island or beaches, we had to wait from 30 to 45 minutes.
One other more minor disadvantage is that the spa has no steam room, sauna, or jacuzzi.
Generally a very nice stay if not for the stress of making it to the island and back.
