Mostly positive - Great Location - Confusing Housekeeping rules.

  • Texcs
  • May 22, 2012
Housekeeping rules are a bit confusing. "Leave this card out before 2 a.m. to have a green cleaning," "leave this other card out by midnite to have room serviced." We were never quite sure if our room would be made up or not. When they did service it, they did not restock basics like shampoo. Water was a dollar to purchase. Room service worked great one nite, food arrived quickly and was delicious, a little surprised at all the upcharges, like delivery and auto gratuity. Tried to order another nite, and kept getting routed to the restaurant that said they did not deliver?? Same number but we could not get room service. Location is excellent, right in the heart of Old San Juan, walk around town, walk to ferry, walk to trolley. Overall I would recommend.

Ideal location to enjoy Old San Juan.

  • MultiCityTraveler
  • May 18, 2012
Service in general was courteous and efficient; from the valet parking to reception, and restaurant. Room and halls clean, with all necessarily amenities. The continental breakfast was pricey, but complemented by good service. But after such a positive stay; the front-desk attendant didn't even looked at me while checking out; stayed at the phone on a lengthy personal/family conversation while handling my documentation.

We had a junior suite and it was basic. A queen bed, wall mounted flat screen TV, a small desk & chair, nice size private bath. I wasn't expecting much after I read through all the reviews. What sold me was the LOCATION! It was walking distance to restaurants, bars, forts, pier & bus station. I like that San Juan taxis have fixed rates to go to the major areas. Raymond at the reception was absoulutely wonderful for giving us ideas on what to do during our stay. Just a few suggestions though, try to put up pictures or paintings in the room, and an ice machine at the lobby area.

Interesting, quaint hotel

Very pretty, unusual hotel. Could use some rugs in the room as the tile floor is cold. Very damp. Pretty, just don't expect a room like a Marriott or Hilton....much more unique. Staff were great.

Unbeatable location for the price

  • Susie
  • Jun 6, 2011
The La Herencia was absolutely charming for a romantic stay for a couple. It was located right in the center of Old San Juan, across the street from the National Cathedral, and everything was within walking distance. In fact, we walked to the cruise ship pier with our luggage in tow. The hotel is 300 years old, with the rooms opening into a courtyard with a fountain. The rooms are small, but adorable, and clean. A nice breakfast was included, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The only reason I did not give a 5 is that they did not have hair dryers, or washcloths. But this was so much more fun than staying in a standard hotel room.

San Juan Park - Clean and Friendly

  • Weegieable
  • May 8, 2012
Nice small family type hotel. Clean, but beds were high and I felt hard, hubby found it comfortable. We avoid scented places, the lobby was intolerable but the room with balcony and opening door was excellent. The hotel lacks a resteraunt, but there's commercial food within 2-3 minutes walk that ranges from Subway sandwiches to the resteraunt at the Hilton. Pick your pallate and your budget. The included breakfast would only suit an american pallate, it was generally high sugar cereal, a sugaraed bun or an Apple or Banana. After the first morning we avoided it except to grab a single piece of fruit each. The location was reasonable, 50cents to old town on the bus, $12 taxi ride or a 20 minute walk. Compared to old towb or chain prices in the area it was very acceptable for the rate, we'd certainly consider staying there again.

Great location, comfortable accommodations

  • Northern Observer
  • Mar 23, 2012
This is a nice, clean, genuine historic hotel located right in the heart of Old San Juan. As you would expect, the rooms are smaller than modern construction, and you may need to share electric outlets to charge up all those modern mobile conveniences. The hotel lobby, halls, and roof top restaurant are all traditionally furnished (tiled floors and attractive art) and clean. Our room was nicely furnished, clean and plenty of hot water in the bathroom. Daily maid service for our two night stay was excellent. WiFi is available in the rooms and of average quality. This is an urban hotel, so we were pleasantly surprised that it was pleasant sleeping and quiet at night, even with the air conditioner off and windows open. Each morning breakfast is a very nice continental style and a step up from the hotel chain we had just come from. Even nicer is the indoor and outdoor accommodations on the rooftop restaurant. Staff were very nice and friendly. This hotel’s location is just outstanding for visiting Old San Juan. We would stay here again.

Charming

For our vacation, my dear wife and I were searching for an hotel in Old San Juan, and we found this charming one in the center of the old city at a reasonable price. We stayed for 6 nights. Our room was small but comfortable and very clean (they have larger rooms). The staff was very friendly and helpful. They serve continental breakfast every morning for a reasonable fee. They have Internet service. There is not parking facility in the premises but there is a public parking near by. Actually every thing is a walking distance from this hotel, and we drove our rented car only when we decided to go outside from Old San Juan. We were very satisfied and we recommend this hotel.

Positives: This was one of the best hotel stays we have ever had. The hotel is old but in excellent shape, located in the center of Old SJ and in walking distance to all parts of the old city. Staff excellent. Do not expect new hotel room size though. A/C worked great in room. Negatives: Parking at hotel $25/ day for guests. Friday night price triple any other day! Friday night noisey as they have ladies night in one of the restaurants.

Gutes Hotel + Lage für Kurzaufenthalt vor/nach Kreuzfahrt!

  • kinkerlitzchen
  • May 14, 2012

My classic room was on the 4th floor..it was pretty much a workout w no elevator. The contental breakfast at rick cafe suck..either coffee w milk no half and half or orange juice..no tea bag. You get 1 type cearal raisen brand and two toast bread w 1 little frozen butter and 1 jam.. everyday you get the same thing. So if your looking for meat and fruits for breakfast this is not a place to book..the lobby look nice only..rooms decoration is outdated and small with no sitting place byside sitting on your bed..shower presure on and off hot and cold water.

Location in Old San Juan was great but hotel needs updating. Phones were not working. Elevator was extremely small. However the staff was very helpful and friendly. All in all not bad for the price.
