Wonderful Family Getaway

  • GailF
  • Jan 26, 2012
We were 7 people and had a great time. Outside area is terrific. Dining is so so except for Lemongrass which was great. It would be easy to improve some of the things that were not the best. No nightlife. Spa not very clean. Water in pool is too cold. Take a cab and travel in the area for things to do and places to eat. Weather is fantastic always. Check all bills - there are errors and if you have a package you must check to make sure they credit you.

This was the perfect accomodation for myself and friends. We are not super high end, but also want to stay somewhere a little better than just "nice". Great price. Great location. I LOVED the mattress! Staff was polite. Drinks and food were more expensive than I think they deserved to be. Lots of shops and starbucks are convenient within the lobby. Overall, we had a great stay. I love how there is a pool and small beach option, depending on what kind of water you would like to be in. The pool is freezing and the hot tub is barely warm, but I am not hard to please . The beach area had warmer water. I would definitely stay here again.

Great location close to "Old San Juan". Room was clean and comfortable, but a bit small, and there was only a "full size" bed, as advertized. (We had not paid for the optional upgrade to a king size bed.) Staff was very friendly and helpfull. Good choice if you want to just have somplace to sleep and spend your money on other things.

Wonderful, but the food could use some work

  • NYCfilmdude
  • Jan 23, 2012
This hotel is beautiful and the staff is warm and helpful. The decor throughout and in the rooms is beautifully modern without being sterile or sparse. The biggest negative is the hotel's restaurants. Apparently, each of the restaurants within is operated by a different company, and therefore are not supervised by hotel management as a whole, and it shows. Service can be spotty, and the food is mediocre at best. The worst was the Saturday morning breakfast I spent $30 on at Aqua, one of their main restaurants that services the entire pool area. 2 weak cups of coffee, 2 glasses of orange juice from concentrate (it's in the tropics! why aren't those fresh squeezed???), an oatmeal, fruit dish, and the capper... POWDERED EGG OMELETTE. You read that right: powdered eggs. (the irony of course being that there are Cock Fight establishments on the island and chickens roaming around free, and yet Aqua chose to pour something from a box.

Casa Blanca Hotel @ SOFO Area in Old San Juan unique!

  • Sep 13, 2011
I came in to check-in and Isadora(the girl @ front desk) was all smiles and attention. The lobby is full of art of different kinds but they seem to co-relate somehow. I explained to Isadora that this was our first time at the hotel and was all a surprise to my wife. I came in around 10:30 pm on a tuesday night and it was quite and nice that night. It's a very old bulding as any in the old city but this people has done a magnificent job of re-building this entire hotel inside out in a way that it does not have the old humid smell. The bed was confortable and the air conditioning could be freezing but you can adjusted; the bathroom entirelly renovated; the living room was simple and romantic with a balcony that shows you the city from the top and the moon! I can tell during the weekends can be noisy but is such a great location that you can ask for less exposed room to the street. Staff was nice and efficient. We forgot the name of the guy working teh overnight shift but also very nice and all smile when we can in late that night. In the morning the manager was serving breakfast and getting feedback of every guest and THIS WAS VERY NICE!! Spent the day shopping around and eating some real nice Puertorican food @ Manolo's restaurant very close by the hotel up the street and left like 2 blocks away. I am a lover of old history and even better when ios cleaned and does not have thesmell from old buldings.

Great stay - but pricey on food/drinks

  • Susan
  • May 30, 2011
Room was nice, but ocean-view king ended up being on the first floor so view was obstructed. Only one outlet in the room worked to run the fridge, and the security keys kept failing (a little inconvenient). Hotel staff took care of it all. The Hotel allows use as a club for locals so TONS of kids by Saturday & Sunday and no chairs available by the pool. Noisy at night in the halls. We loved walking the property several times during the day to catch the critters wandering around. Food in restaurants is overpriced, so we found several places off-site to eat for less and bring in our own snacks, drinks and liquor.

Good hotel, nice grounds, more expensive than it should be.Problems: 1) the "villas" in the property name is incorrect. A villa is "a detached or semidetached dwelling house" ([@]). This just a hotel. 2) The "ocean view" is not guaranteed. We were given a "lagoon view" having rented an "ocean view." The hotel said, "the lagoon is also an "ocean view" because the lagoon is off the ocean."Our sheets were not changed. The carpet was not clean (hairballs) until asked to vacumn and the tile floor not mopped. Room service at the pool took 45 minutes to deliver.

Very Cool Hotel in the Heart of Old San Juan

  • Rene'
  • Dec 10, 2011
Since I had no plans to rent a car, I wanted a hotel in the main city. I'm much more of a city than beach person. This place was just great! On top of a great location, I had a 'every other night free'. This brought my room down to 70. a night avg. This contributes to my rating. This was for an upper floor outside room, that had a shared terrace, although I never saw anyone else out there. Some of the reviews I read talked about a noise problem. I never had an issue. Maybe because of the top floor, or because I was seldom there before 2am! This place has nice artwork throughout and a great inner stairway. Remember to elevator!

Perfection

Even with an extra hour and a half wait checking-in (our room wasn't ready and the check-in time kept being pushed back), our stay was perfection. Our room was grand with large windows looking out onto Catedral de San Juan Bautista. What a view! The staff was helpful and the complimentary drinks/bottled water a plus, but the nightly complimentary wine and cheese reception was our favorite part. It is not to be missed.

The desk service was excellent and the man we had was very helpful. He gave us a map of places that were "must see" and places to eat. They also have storage for your luggage until you can check in which was excellent. The room was clean and it even had a futon couch. The hotel looks a little creepy from outdoors but its clean and nice on the inside.

Very pretty, unusual hotel. Could use some rugs in the room as the tile floor is cold. Very damp. Pretty, just don't expect a room like a Marriott or Hilton....much more unique. Staff were great.

Unbeatable location for the price

The La Herencia was absolutely charming for a romantic stay for a couple. It was located right in the center of Old San Juan, across the street from the National Cathedral, and everything was within walking distance. In fact, we walked to the cruise ship pier with our luggage in tow. The hotel is 300 years old, with the rooms opening into a courtyard with a fountain. The rooms are small, but adorable, and clean. A nice breakfast was included, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The only reason I did not give a 5 is that they did not have hair dryers, or washcloths. But this was so much more fun than staying in a standard hotel room.
