We had a very exciting get together after the cruise at this hotel. We gathered in our Room #701 and had pizza delivered from Papa John, which is around the corner of the hotel. It is very accessible to eating places and market. It is a walking distance from the casino and shopping places. The clerk (Jill) is very helpful and the rooms are huge.
I will recommend this to my friends for a short stay.

Very nice hotel. Nice staff, extremely clean hotel. The pool set-up is not the greatest, but not a big deal because huge beach is great as well. Hotel is in a very nice area, with good local restaurants nearby. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel!

The hotel and grounds are beautiful. It's right on a very nice beach which was made even better by the chair and umbrella service offered by the hotel. The staff was polite and attentive. We enjoyed several meals and happy hours at the hotel. I highly recommend the Japanese restaurant! The best part about the hotel was the location. There are so many bars and restaurants within a short walk it was hard to decide where to go first. I would definately stay here again.

Wonderful Family Getaway

- Jan 26, 2012
We were 7 people and had a great time. Outside area is terrific. Dining is so so except for Lemongrass which was great. It would be easy to improve some of the things that were not the best. No nightlife. Spa not very clean. Water in pool is too cold. Take a cab and travel in the area for things to do and places to eat. Weather is fantastic always. Check all bills - there are errors and if you have a package you must check to make sure they credit you.

This was the perfect accomodation for myself and friends. We are not super high end, but also want to stay somewhere a little better than just "nice". Great price. Great location. I LOVED the mattress! Staff was polite. Drinks and food were more expensive than I think they deserved to be. Lots of shops and starbucks are convenient within the lobby. Overall, we had a great stay. I love how there is a pool and small beach option, depending on what kind of water you would like to be in. The pool is freezing and the hot tub is barely warm, but I am not hard to please . The beach area had warmer water. I would definitely stay here again.

This hotel is beautiful and the staff is warm and helpful. The decor throughout and in the rooms is beautifully modern without being sterile or sparse. The biggest negative is the hotel's restaurants. Apparently, each of the restaurants within is operated by a different company, and therefore are not supervised by hotel management as a whole, and it shows. Service can be spotty, and the food is mediocre at best. The worst was the Saturday morning breakfast I spent $30 on at Aqua, one of their main restaurants that services the entire pool area. 2 weak cups of coffee, 2 glasses of orange juice from concentrate (it's in the tropics! why aren't those fresh squeezed???), an oatmeal, fruit dish, and the capper... POWDERED EGG OMELETTE. You read that right: powdered eggs. (the irony of course being that there are Cock Fight establishments on the island and chickens roaming around free, and yet Aqua chose to pour something from a box.

Good location - right on the beach and very close to airport. I was upgraded to a Jr. Suite that faced the ocean. The room was huge and very nice. Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to enjoy much of the hotel, as I arrived at 8pm and had to leave at 9am, but the pool looked nice and there are a few restaurants within walking distance.

Great location close to "Old San Juan". Room was clean and comfortable, but a bit small, and there was only a "full size" bed, as advertized. (We had not paid for the optional upgrade to a king size bed.) Staff was very friendly and helpfull. Good choice if you want to just have somplace to sleep and spend your money on other things.

We went to Puerto Rico with the plan of "winging it" but wanted a for sure place for the first night since our flight got in late and after searching online we settled for Casa Condado! It was clean, and had air conditioning! It had everything we needed and was super close to the beach and a 24 hr store that has all you need. We ended up staying a second night in the hotel. Seemed like a safe neighborhood and there were quite a few things to do all within walking distance. The hotel is a walk up (no elevator), which I have noticed some people complain about, but whats wrong with a little exercise when you're on vacation!

Sleek San Juan hotel on Condado Beach with a floating restaurantEverything about La Concha flows -- from its landmark seashell-shaped restaurant, to its open air lobby and its sleekly appointed rooms. Best Birthday Vacation

Miss Monet
- Feb 1, 2012
I traveled to San Juan, PR for the first time for my birthday and WOW was I blown away by La Concha Renaissance Resort. I hadn't done too much research on the property and relied on word of mouth before booking. First off the pictures don't quite do this place justice. It's HUGE. There are so many lounge areas, four pools and its beachfront. Perfect to lay out all day. The atmosphere is wonderful as there is always a cool crowd of locals and tourists in the lobby. There is a casino on site (I visited and won $65 in the slot machine) also varied restaurants and no shortage of bars. I only ate at Solera and Voga, and in my opinion Voga isn't the best cuisine or worth the price. Try a few other local eateries - there are so many offering cuisine ranging from Indian, Chinese, Italian and of course authentic Puerto Rican !. The staff was fantastic although checking in was a little lengthy. I requested a room upgrade (well worth the $30 a night for ocean view with a balcony) so that might be why. Overall no complaints whatsoever about this hotel ... the only downside was the resort fee and $300 incidental hold placed on my credit card on check in. I recommend a visit here and I can't wait to return !.

We spent one night here post cruise. The staff was very friendly! We were able to check in early and the concierge was full of ideas for the last day of our vacation. We didn’t really use the hotel amenities (i.e. pool, restaurants), but everything looked great! Wish we could have stayed longer.

Caters to Business Traveler

Enjoyed the grounds, staff, amenities and food...The hotel was very nice and the grounds were luxurious, but it appeared to cater to conference attendees and business travelers rather than the leisure resort traveler. While we were there, the hotel booked a major conference that overtook the grounds and closed most of the pool area off to other guests. Management was responsive to our complaints, but it was unpleasant and disruptive nonetheless.

The staff and hotel are great. Very clean and attention to detail is spot on! It can get a little crowed at the pool with people reserving their spots early in the AM and not showing up till the afternoon. The beach is the best bet.
We made a reservation to go on a zip-line trip for the day at the hotel tour desk. The trip was great, but was surprised to learn that we were charged more because we were staying at the Ritz. The people from other hotels were charged less for the trip. That is just wrong! It is a shame that such a hotel with high standards would let this happen.

this budget hotel is centrally located with easy access to public transportation and to old san juan. Staff were great...especially Susie, Pablo and Tatianna. The service was good, but from the previous reviews I was expecting more. The wi-fi is not free and its somewhat expensive to pay for. I liked that it had free parking for our rental and free continental breakfast with a decent amount of options. We got there and requested a king size bed and the accommodation was not available so we ended up in a bedroom with two double beds which are too small in length for us. Aside from these things it is in a great location near restaurants, beach and airport, has a pool and basic necessities to have a place to stay and go out and explore.

Comfortable place and good value

I like a clean room and El Portal features carpet and tile that are modern and spotless. The beds are fine.
Water pressure in San Juan is almost always an issue, but it's adequate here. The linens were better than some expensive hotels.
The continental breakfast is way better than most places . The views from the terrace at the top of the hotel are spectacular.
The location is superb. Taxis and buses are nearby as well as the new Museum of Contemporary Art.
The staff is friendly, courteous and always helpful.
Most importantly, my wife likes enough to want to go back.

Upon arrival to this hotel we were greeted with much attention. At opening our apartment a WOW factor came to our mouth as the good taste decor, cleanliness, open feeling of the place warm us to feel at home (great views @ 5th floor). The apartment was spacious, the full kitchen was very well equipped (including some soft drinks and water); the decor at the kitchen also at high-end. We immediately look over all the place had to offer to make us feel comfortable and our expectations were met. Since we are not fan of the sun, we don’t miss to be right on the beach as the Old San Juan area and Condado are within a short driving distance; including great dining places. We would repeat our stay. **Looks great for long term stays.

The area seemed very nice. The car rental agency also told me we were in a good area of town. Our plane landed in the late evening and by 10 pm when we got to the hotel area, the ONLY place to eat anywhere nearby was Burger King.It was only a few minute drive from the hotel to Old town. We parked in a garage in Old Town then took the free trolleys. One important note: My Garmin GPS couldn't recognize the hotel address. I finally called my brother who also was staying at this hotel and had arrived first. He told me to use JUAN Ponce de Leon Avenue instead of Ponce de Leon Avenue. With that change, the GPS found it fine. The rooms were nice. The wi-fi worked great. Overall an enjoyable stay.

Room was nice, but ocean-view king ended up being on the first floor so view was obstructed. Only one outlet in the room worked to run the fridge, and the security keys kept failing (a little inconvenient). Hotel staff took care of it all. The Hotel allows use as a club for locals so TONS of kids by Saturday & Sunday and no chairs available by the pool. Noisy at night in the halls. We loved walking the property several times during the day to catch the critters wandering around. Food in restaurants is overpriced, so we found several places off-site to eat for less and bring in our own snacks, drinks and liquor.

Good hotel, nice grounds, more expensive than it should be.Problems: 1) the "villas" in the property name is incorrect. A villa is "a detached or semidetached dwelling house" ([@]). This just a hotel. 2) The "ocean view" is not guaranteed. We were given a "lagoon view" having rented an "ocean view." The hotel said, "the lagoon is also an "ocean view" because the lagoon is off the ocean."Our sheets were not changed. The carpet was not clean (hairballs) until asked to vacumn and the tile floor not mopped. Room service at the pool took 45 minutes to deliver.

- Feb 2, 2011
Honestly the room needed a lot of work. We are simple travelers and don't mind staying at cheap hotel rooms. The beach front seating and bar are beautiful at their worst. Tiki torches and candles add to the romantic feel. We lost power for a few hours and the staff promptly appologized and gave us a discount. It looks as though the management/owner wanted to make this hotel the best beach destination they could and did a fine job. Hopefully they continue to get funding to add to the hotel rooms. They are simple yet pretty but need work to make people feel more comfortable. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a great beach location and aren't concerned with simple room amenities like great water pressure and nice rooms. The bed was clean and the room safe but lets just say it's like a motel 6 with a fantastic beach.....

Even though it was economic, I expect a little more for the price. If you want to expend a night because you want to be near the airport, you can use it. But not recommended for anything

Christmas in San Juan

After a very short drive from the airport we were at the hotel. The staff was courteous and receptive. The hotel was clean and modern. The room was basic but it had everything we needed to base our vacation right there for 5 nights. As soon as we cheked in we walked across the street to the beach. It is great to have Carolina Beach, the upscale neighborhood, and all the food choices within walking distance. Lots of American food chain restaurants and a bunch of local places as well. The only dings are for the pool being cold, and the air conditioning being too cold on the 6th floor and our room. It had two settings, off and freezing cold.
But all things considered it was a great location. Even had a Walgreen a block away. From here you can find a number of car rental places

Perfection

Even with an extra hour and a half wait checking-in (our room wasn't ready and the check-in time kept being pushed back), our stay was perfection. Our room was grand with large windows looking out onto Catedral de San Juan Bautista. What a view! The staff was helpful and the complimentary drinks/bottled water a plus, but the nightly complimentary wine and cheese reception was our favorite part. It is not to be missed.

Great value, great location, friendly staff

Look, Hosteria del Mar is not the Ritz Carlton. You may have to endure a low-pressure, cold shower or two (the hot water is provided by solar), the linens are not Egyptian Cotton, and you won't find a mint on your pillow when you return from the beach.
The location, however, is amazing. Hosteria del Mar is directly on the beach in the neighborhood of Ocean Park - about half way between the more tourist-packed areas of Isla Verde and Condado.
The staff is very friendly and helpful, and everyone's English was considerably better than my Spanish so it was not necessary to embarrass myself.
The restaurant attached to the hotel is a bit pricey for dinner, but both food and service is excellent and well worth it. There is also a walk-up bar next-door for drinks on the beach.
There are several more wallet-friendly local restaurants a short walk away (we recommend Kasalta on Calle McLeary for breakfast and lunch), as well as a grocery store, corner market and Walgreens nearby.
We would definitely stay here again.

Paradise for Relaxation
- Devine Traveler
- Apr 25, 2011
This is a hotel for couples and a perfect place to relax. Set in a gated residential area, safety is not a problem. The beach is frequented by locals, which adds to the experience. Located 10 min from the airport and 15 from Old San Juan City, no problem getting a taxi quickly. Also. a tour picked us up for a rainforest visit.
We did not get breakfast, as it begins at 8, but there is a local bakery within a 3 block walk. Sunrises are deserted and sunsets can be enjoyed with a bottle of Medalla, on a pillow or chair right on the beach. All dressed in white the bar, the restaraunt and our room were inviting, but with no frills (hairdryer, phone, clock). Don't need them when you are here to unwind. There was a flat screened tv, but didn't need that either, with a room overlooking the beach. A real paradise that I plan to revisit soon.
