Great for a budget getaway to Isla Verde. The Hotel is recently renovated but still you can see the old hotel in the building details, specially in the rooms. The Managers Cocktail was a very nice touch with complementary drinks and food. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Nothing to luxurious or nothing stunning about it, but for the money is a great place to stay, just a block from the beach and the other expensive hotels.

The perfect location

  • Chris Travlin Man
  • Nov 16, 2012
This is a very nice hotel. The security is excellent, from the pass key operation of the elevators to the safes in the rooms. The size of my room was also exceptional. Unfortunately there was no view as I was on the lowest floor and the hotel is shaped like a horseshoe and all I got was a view of the roof. There were some ginger plants scattered about but this could be vastly improved with the addition of several more potted plants if the roof could support them. The rooms do not come with microwaves or refrigerators but you could get a small refrigerator for an addional $10 per day. There are plenty of restaurants about for any budget so this is not really an issue. There are also convenience stores and a grocery nearby so you can stock up on anything you might need. They had cable with several channels in english although there was a problem with the remote channel selector but you could work around it. There were a few tours I could not go on because their seaon doesn't start until afer Christmas. So that's sometihng you may want to consider when planning your vacation. But insofar as Old San Juan is concerned, there's a huge police presence so I felt very safe wandering about. All in all, I really enjoyed myself.

Good Hotel, Bad location

  • abbaby
  • Dec 29, 2012
The hotel itself was good. The casino is disappointing if that is something you take seriously. And accessibility to places of interest (old San Juan, Condado, Isla Verde etc) is non existent. Need to take cabs (15-20$ worth one way) for each of these destinations. So need to budget that into trip cost before deciding that the savings in booking this hotel are worth it.

When we booked this hotel we knew it was a little out of the way, what we didn't realize was that it is REALLY out of the way. I have read reviews that also say other hotels are out of the way but we soon realized this is way worse. At least the other hotels have a beach. We got nothing, except an infinity pool. Also we almost got robbed walking back to the hotel because the Taxi driver said he can't take us any closer to the hotel because of the concert at the convention center. Moreover, the restaurants at the hotel are all rated pretty bad, so you are kind of forced to go out to eat. The hotel is really new since it was built in 2009, so that's a huge plus for us and the main reason why we stayed there. However, new doesn't mean clean. The first day my bed had dog hair/feces on it and I wrote a note for the cleaning lady to change the sheets. She changed that sheets and we thought it's all good. The problem was that 3 days later we found blood on my wife's bed sheets. Nothing huge but looked like someone had a small cut and let it drip onto the bed.

We arrived at the hotel at 10am after our cruise and check-in wasn't until 3pm, but they had our room ready by 11, which is great. In the meantime, they told us we could put our stuff in lockers and start enjoying the pool and grounds. I'm giving them a 4 star because everything was soo over-priced that I was pretty disgusted. The cost of the room was fine but I went to purchase sunscreen at the shop and a 6oz bottle was $21.00. A plate of simple nachos was over $15, the cheapest beer was $6. We ended up ordering a pizza from pizza hut down the street and had it delivered to our hotel. We had spent a few days in Puerto Rico at another hotel and stuff was nowhere near this. I know prices at resorts tend to be inflated but we travel a lot and this was just completely absurd. Otherwise the hotel was quite nice, spacious and clean room, friendly staff, etc. I would recommend this hotel if you don't need to eat, drink, or purchase any simple items while on your trip.

San Juan Ritz Carlton; Isla Verde

  • Grateful
  • Dec 18, 2012
It's the Ritz, so, expect that it will be nice. It's clean and the staff are exceptionally friendly and cordial beyond any hotel I've ever stayed. However, I felt like I always needed cash to tip and keep tipping, notwithstanding the daily resort fee you pay. I know that's how many employees make money but it gets old. The pool area is nice if moderate in size -- there's only one pool, so, that means kids/families, which if you go on vacation for peace and quiet, might be challenging. The beach is okay too, but, like other destinations, it has its share of debris on and in the sand; cigarette butts, used plastic straws/utensils, etc. The pool staff is accommodating and there's plenty of fresh water and oranges poolside. The lounge chairs seem a little dated -- when it rains in the morning, the foam retains so much water and doesn't dry well, we took the foam pads off the loungers and just used the slingback virtually every day. The lobby also has "free" cold bottled water and apples during the day. With the exception of the poolside cafe/restaurant [very dated and extraordinarily expensive for what you get -- $19 for 2 fish tacos?, $14 for a pina colada in a plastic cup], the hotel restaurants are nice. The Italian restaurant we ate at was 2 entrees + 3 glasses of wine = $140+, without appetizers, salads, dessert, coffee or tip. And, the bill will come with space for the waiter and captain's tip, respectively. Yes, the service and food were good but not sure $140+ and + 2 tips good. For breakfast, take a 3 minute walk outside the hotel and try Piu Bello or Las Carnarias, if you want something light and more reasonably priced than the full menu restaurant. There is a coffee bar with muffins etc. inside the hotel as well. The real issue for me at the Ritz was the taxi fares -- standard rates apply; $21 one way [w/out tip] to Old Town San Juan which is less than 15 minutes away. So, for dinner in Old San Juan, add an addtl $40+ to your bill just for transportation. There is a regional bus transport that runs between 30 - 45 minutes for $.75 that some guests used and said it was fine. That notwithstanding, the surrounding area of the R/C is very dingy, and, but for the noticeable police presence, probably not the best place to hang out. There's a "couple" restaurants on that street if you don't feel like eating at the Ritz or hiking it to Old San Juan. But, again, the area is not the best. There's also a hotel zone in an area of Condado [$17 one way taxi fare], which was more upbeat and very marginally reminded me of the south beach strip. Restaurants of note: Casa Lola (Condado area). Cafe Puerto Rico (Old Town San Juan). Don't miss: Old San Juan, forts, cemetery, churches, charm of residential streets and neighborhood restaurants. We did this all on our own -- took a cab into town and did all the sites ourselves. Very easy to do, you are on your schedule and Old Town San Juan is very navigable on foot.

Good enough

  • La Corina
  • Nov 19, 2012
At $154 per night for a couple of nights, it' was OK. No frills, but spacious, clean and comfortable. Customer service was impeccable. Furniture and decor outdated, but it didn't bother me since I just needed a place to shower, sleep and keep my stuff for two days. It has a kitchenette that I didn't use, but it would be convenient for those who use it. I'd stay there again for another quick trip. If I'm staying longer and want a little more luxury, then I'd expect to pay more somewhere else.

The hotel was very nice and clean. I liked that a continental breakfast was included. The staff was very nice and helpful. My only complaints were that there wasn't a pool and because our room was on the side of the street we could hear all of the traffic noise. Overall, we enjoyed our stay there.

We had a great time at La Concha. Good food great property and amazing staff. La Perla restaurant is a must see spot inside a giant sea shell. Prices for food and drinks were fair for such a nice hotel. If I could make one improvement to the property is the lobby bar sound system. They bring in Dj's on most nights but it was ruined by a terrible musak style sound. No base at all... Other than that everything was quite nice....

The Pop Art hotel was in a central location in Old San Juan. We were able to walk everywhere, no car needed! The staff was extremely helpful. Traveling with extended family, we had two rooms with joining common area and a great balcony which we took advantage of. Breakfast was included and decent. Fantastic Stay

  • Steven the Crusiser
  • Nov 20, 2012
The staff at this hotel was so nice, kind, and helpful. They went out of their way to take care of all our needs and went way beyond what most hotels would do. The gave us assistance on places to visit, eat, etc. The hotel is located close to the forts in San Juan and other tourist attractions. It is close to restaurants and the cruise terminal. Do not need to get a taxi to go the the cruise terminal if your large luggage has wheels. The breakfast was good. The hotel was very clean. We will defiantly stay there again. The only issue is some noise of garbage trucks and cars outside of the rooms. This is a old hotel and the windows and doors do not shield out all the outside noise. I could write a book on how great our stay at this hotel.

I was in PR for a work conference. While most of my work group stayed near the very boring & industrial feeling convention center area, the Coral Princess was a very pretty walking distance away (20 minutes) in a hip part of Condado. I'm glad I chose to stay here instead of the convention center Sheraton, I got a smaller, quainter and more interesting hotel at a great price. Excellent & competent staff, Ricardo @ the front desk gave me excellent dining advice for good local food & the manager even offered her office printer so I could get some work done. Nearby restaurants were very convenient; I especially loved the Beunos Ayers Argentinian Grill on the same block for some awesome steak.

le personnel est sympa et il y a une micro piscine, c'est vraiment tout ce qui sauve cet hôtel. Petit déjeuner médiocre, chambre sale et peu confortable.

The hotel was great except for the location. It was not really feasible to walk to restaurants because of the location. But security was great and I felt safe within the hotel. Also worth noting is the complimentary shuttle to the beach. GREAT! Breakfast in the morning = superb!

It's not a cookie cutter mainline brand hotel and it's not a B&B with cute, but it's way better than either. Ultra high end fixtures and room is like an apartment or condo in size. Stayed in the 2 bed/ 2 bath and we could have fit a half dozen adults comfortably. But it's clearly not strategically designed. Short story, it's like they made a modern high end condo building and turned it into a hotel. Staff very friendly but 'front desk' is literally a desk in foyer of the building. There's no lobby. Very secure but front desk guy said, if you need to open gated garage 24/7 and someone happened not to be at the desk, just use the clicker, which was on his desk. Neighborhood very middle class, not 'rough' in any sense of the word but dead quiet residential. But just down the road is a middle rise commercial/business/office district and I did see a couple walking ladies when driving at night. For Caribbean, the neighborhood is very high end but Beverly Hills it's not of course. It's a 10 minute drive to Condado (Waikiki of PR) and Old San Juan (awesome) but thanks to inexplicable PR road signs and weird layout of roads, got lost everytime. Stateside GPS most definitely did not work properly. No turn by turn on smartphone either. BEST: delicious breakfast to order from chef, secure building with free garage parking, free wifi, huge room, very cold A/C, LCD tv even in bathroom, quirky like walk in closet (!!!) and weird room layout, ultra modern high end fixtures, super high end soap/shampoo, awesome awesome value price, perfect for family, very small private hotel with never a crowd NOT SO BEST: a little drive (<10min) to beach or anywhere touristy, quirky layout, room was very very clean but not spotless-for example, flooring was marble/granite whatever stone tile and if barefoot you felt sand particles but if your rooms are huge is it really reasonable to expect corner to corner HEPA vacuuming? I was ok with it and no prob obviously if you have shoes on, no view-you're in a residential community, so outside window are other condos and ocean in the distance but the working port not the beach, kitchen and dining area are not personal in room but rather open on the 'sub-penthouse floor' like a sitting area/club area on an executive floor in a Hyatt type place, not a big deal but not private per se BOTTOM LINE: LOVED IT!!

Their price can't be beat given the location. The rooms are ok and the parking lot is small, but the overall value is worth it. Especially since the they have Platos restaurant downstairs which has GREAT Puertorican food (as judged by me, a native).

A good place to stay

  • Tom and Carrie
  • Nov 24, 2012
The hotel was located one block off the beach. The beach was nice, the bus stop was only steps away for a trip to Old San Juan, and the hotel offered free breackfast from the top floor of the hotel which offered a nice view of the surrounding area. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful when we needed anything. The room was ok as long as you don't take a vacation for the luxury of the room. The cable/satellite froze often but overall it wasn't bad. There is a nice resturant on the ground floor of the hotel. Good place for the price.

We LOVED the location of this hotel. Concierge was very polite, helpful in finding dining, allowing us to keep our bags there after we checked out while we toured the city, and in finding us a taxi. However, for the price the accommodations were just okay. Clean and safe, but don't expect much. Just remember you're paying for the great location
