A Palace with top customer service

The town center was a simple and healthy walk across the pedestrian bridge and alone the river. We stopped for an outdoor lunch at an excellent pizza restaurant. We had already had a week of typical portuguese food and an Italian lunch was needed. Very hot day but perfect in the shade around mid-day and afternoon. The hotel staff could not be more accommodating from check-in, orientation and a perfect dinner suggestion. The pool and setting was relaxing. Upon entering our room there was a problem with our bathroom. While we had lunch the staff changed our room to another improved room. The old palace was beautiful and our friends had a room there. I stayed in the new modern addition and was very pleased with all the details. They also stock a good "honor system" bar in the library and asked you to make yourself at home which we did and appreciate.

Très bel hôtel, chambre vaste et très bien équipée. Petit déjeuner hyper varié et copieux. Ambiance calme et détendue (hôtel totalement retiré du centre ville). Mais obligation d'avoir un véhicule pour se rendre au centre ville.

Un hotel perfecto, con todas las comodidades a un precio realmente razonable. Lo único malo es que queda un poco alejado del centro, aunque precisamente por eso tiene unas vistas espectaculares de toda la ciudad de coimbra. Recomendable 100% si llevas coche.

This a very good hotel within easy access to the city centre. mp 07/07 This is a modern 14-storey, glass-fronted building. Situated in the university area of the city and 100 metres from the University Hospital. Coimbra is famous for this old university and also for the nearby Roman ruins of Conimbriga.

- Close to everything you'd need, including train and taxi stations. Also a 10min walk to the bus station and along the river near the bridge to connect you quickly to the other side via 15min walk.
CONS
- Does it's best to hide the fact that it's basically an ugly, unexciting building but who cares if you're only stopping in for 1 or 2 nights. For longer stays, look for comfort elsewhere.

Description
The Pousada de Condeixa a Nova, Santa Cristina, a former palace owned by the Almadas Family, was built in the 16th century. In the first half of 19th century, the palace was transformed in an hotel inn, later on it was an orphanage to poor Childs and finally an asylum homeless elderly people. This Palace was completely reconstructed, having been transformed in this beautiful charming hotel. The Pousada is close to the Lisbon-Oporto motorway (A1), near the historical university city of Coimbra and only 2 Km from Conmbriga, one of the best preserved Roman ruins in Europe. Its interior design, the peacefulness of its surrounding green areas and the palace park nearby, are all excellent reasons to visit this Pousada again and again.
