Excellent hosts. I only marked Facilities good, because of no mini bar (didn't worry me though!). Would definitely stay here again. They recommended dinner at the Cabbage Tree Hotel, with pick up and drop off. The setting and meal were fantastic. Highly recommend motel and hotel (which has no connection to Tayesta)
Description
Inner City Victorian Style Boutique Hotel Accommodation. Built in 1896 the Victoria Railway Hotel is an Invercargill Icon with a NZ Historic Places Trust Category 1 Classification. The Hotel was closed for an architecturally designed upgrade and refurbishment in June 2003, then subsequently re-opened in May 2004. The upgrade included automatic fire sprinklers throughout, Type 7 smoke detection, Ground floor wheelchair units, CCTV and 24hr PIR access. On the 23rd May 2007 the Victoria Railway Hotel was the recipient of the Invercargill City Council Environment Award "in recognition of the work done is conserving this Invercargill landmark" and "the contribution to the environment that your property makes". This Invercargill icon is one of the last remaining Hotels in New Zealand still being used for its original purpose. The Hotel specializes in accommodation with a range of options from Standard to Executive and VIP Rooms.
Hotel also offers Dry cleaning, Library, Lobby, Reception and Smoke-free hotel.

Absolutely loved this old railway hotel - the decor was tasteful and old worldie - just what you would expect from such a place. I felt as if I had gone back in time- and first class! (The bathrooms were entirely modern - no problems there.) We had the two best rooms in the hotel (travelling with another couple) - they are at the top of the house, so you need to be comfortable climbing stairs. Iain romped up the stairs with the suitcases!
We had 'Happy Hour' in the bar - and enjoyed chatting with our host and hostess - I think we put the world of education to rights!
Dinner in the dining room was delicious - and well presented, and so was breakfast.
Would certainly stay there again any time!

The BEST WESTERN Townsman Motor Lodge consists of 20 modern, superior, spacious, motel apartment-style units, situated in a prime city location opposite a park and supermarket.
All units have heating, electric blankets, kitchen facilities, Shower and or bath with either queen or king-size beds. Also a double spa bath unit, all are serviced daily. We have Internet access, off-street parking and cooked or continental breakfast are available.
Being only a short walk into the city centre including restaurants, shopping complexes, Workingmen's Club, Southern Institute of Technology (SIT), Splash Palace Aquatic Centre, Rugby Park Stadium, parks and gardens. Handy to airport, hospital, i-SITE, museum, Stadium Southland, Velodrome and golf courses.

The ascot park hotel is set in peaceful and attractive landscaped surroundings on the outskirts of the city. 5 km from the city center and less than 15 minutes from the airport. The hotel also has an indoor heated swimming pool, spa pool, sauna and gymnasium. Description
Central location in Invercargill, a new property thats suits individuals rather than groups. There are minimal on site facilities however an excellent price. SE1208 A six storey concrete building built in 2006 Central location close to amenities, cafes, bars, restaurants, movies and retail.

Great location and very friendly staff. No air conditioning though and the room was a little warm (it was summer so I guess that's to be expected). Overall very good.

Description
A very central location and a great place to feel the atmosphere of this City. Famously the most southerly city in the World. SE1008 A modern six storey building of concrete and glass overlooking one of the main streets of the city. In the centre of the city. A two minute walk to the bus station, post office, shops and Theatre. A 10 minute walk to the City's Queens Park and the Southland museum.

A brand new property, conveniently located. SE1008 A brand new purpose built building of 3 storeys. In the centre of the city. Across the road from the Inter-city bus terminal. A short walk to the Queens Park.

The hotel provided good basic accommodation. The rooms were well heated - and in Invercargill that's a must! My expectations were not great..........it was after all Invercargill, but I would probably stay there again.
