We stayed in St Maartin for two weeks, On the First day of Check in the staff was a bit on the Rude side, However that may have been because of all the people checking in, There after the entire time spent at this hotel was great, We would have enjoyed stying there longer but we had reservations at a Diamond Resort hotel ( trust me when I say) we were sorely disappointed with that acomindation and it cost us far more than the Hotel under review

The hotel is at a beautiful location, with direct access to both ocean & mountain views. The boat tours are great because you get the chance to see various sites around the island and walk or swim in the clearest of green aqua. the beaches are lined with class A restaurants with food prepared with fresh fruit and seafood from local markets. If you walk through town you will most likely meet the local folks who are polite & friendly which adds to the rich atmosphere and makes your journey unforgettable. I'll be back

Great location. Convenient to several shops, restaurants, and one casino. Can't beat the deal for the bus service to Philipsburg for $2 per person. The hotel is a little older and the section that we stayed in could stand a little update - nothing serious or that would keep me from staying there again. Some people may not like the airport being so close but part of the fun and the great part of this location is sitting on the beach watching the planes come in. We never heard the planes late at night or very early in the morning. Also you can walk to the Sunset Bar and Grill and watch the planes and the beautiful sunset. All of the staff members were very friendly and helpful!

A great location, up high with a nice breeze and view of Orient Bay. Some staff memebers are great and others have a negative attitude. Our room was lacking blankets and pillows. Our towels were not replaced even though they were all used and on the floor. All in all a good place to stay for Orient Bay. We will stay there again because it seems like the best option for the area.

The hotel was right next to the beach. The room itself was all right. When we first entered, it had a musty smell, and I felt disappointed. That soon went away with a bit of air. The accommodations themselves were pretty basic: a bed, a tv, two night tables, a dresser and a closet. The room lacked brightness. In order to have adequate lighting, it was necessary to open the curtains and people would look into the room as they walked by. There was enough storage space. There was also a kitchenette with a refrigerator and a microwave. If a person is looking for a "high glitz" ambiance, this would not be the place to stay. But, if you are looking for a basic, well-maintained place with a great continental breakfast and the closest location possible to the beach, then this is the place. Another very important point-if you want to rent a car, do it at the airport. I rented at the hotel and had to pay the price in euros. The agent did not communicate this to me. He kept saying dollars. When I extended the rental for another day, it was then that he said euros. I did speak to a supervisor who showed me two different contracts that the company uses: one in euros and one in dollars. The contract with the dollars can only be used on the Dutch side (that's where the airport is as well). The difference was $42. The car rental was definitely essential to our trip, as we did travel the island. A visit to Pinel Island is a must. You take the ferry from the French Cul de Sac (you cannot drive to Pinel) and it is spectacular. One last item--the shops in Philipsburg do not have deals as one would think.

Excellent place to stay. Not the most centrally located, but anyone visiting the island should rent a car and if you have a car it's fine. The hotel itself is great. Awesome pool area, fantastic rooms. Clean and spotless. Great restaurant and facilities. I wasn't crazy about the beach itself, but there are plenty of nice ones a short drive away. I would definitely stay here again on future visits to the island. Oh, one other thing. The employees were hit or miss. Some were fantastic, others seemed unhappy to be there.

Great Location & Beach access

This hotel is very close to the Philipsburg, Dutch downtown side in St. Maarten. Great location and very nice beach to rest. Majority of the good restaurants are located in a short drive, so I'd recommend you to rent a car. Be carefull that the traffic in dutch side is terrible during rush hours (5 - 6 pm). Food in the hotel is ordinary and expensive for the quality and service that you'll receive. Hotel rooms are nice, however the mattress is terrible, too old and soft, and the beds quite a bit small for a couple bed. But considering the overall picture, it's a good deal!

The hotel was clean and the staff friendly and accommodating. The positives for the hotel room were: decent size, the bed was very comfortable, bathrooms were recently renovated; refrigerator was available. The negatives about the room were: the tiling on the floor and the furniture contributed to making the room look very old; panelling on our dresser was off on the front side (not really a big deal), but it made the furniture look even older than it was and the tiles in the room were chipped and scuffed. The hotel itself is in a perfect location; the beach is absolutely beautiful - very calm, clean, clear water. It's also very secluded and doesn't have that over-developed look like Orient Beach. It's about a 10 min drive to the town of Grand Case. The food in Grand Case is amazing!

This was our third time to St. Maarten but our first time to Anse Marcel. It is a beautiful place and the property was well maintained and cared for. The beach and pool are great and we never had any problems getting chairs or umbrellas. The road to get to Anse Marcel is an adventure but well worth getting to this charming spot. It is quite close to Grand Case for great restaurants. Big bathrooms, good housekeeping and a helpful concierge for dinner reservations. The only thing I was disappointed about was a resort fee they charged that I was unaware of until we checked out. I felt someone should have made us aware of this. Regardless, I would return!

This is a great value hotel. It has one of the best locations on the island. The associated beach bar umbrellas chairs (playa) is steps from the hotel and just completed an upgrade. The playa beach bar is centrally located on the best beach on the island. Staff at the hotel and the beach bar are great. Breakfast at hotel isn't much (coffee tea croissant). Television has 120 stations with 10 in french another 10 in Spanish and the rest in English. Rooms are old and very very basic with no frills; small fridge and small microwave (in the U.S. the room would be a very nice motel). There is a safe.

Upon our arrival we were greeted at the front desk by Kelly. We reserved a standard room however, were given the Bamboo room on the 2nd floor, with nothing being said. The Continental breakfast average and held us until lunch time. The pool bar, beach bar and resturant were all under construction and not open, (we assumed thats why they upgraded us to the Bamboo room). The location was perfect just a few steps from the beach. Great location and value for the price!

The first room they gave us was not great and we asked for another, which was fine. Some of the rooms have not been renovated and the second one had been painted and the room was representative of what we had stayed in previously. Breakfast was included (continental) and the staff was the weakest in morning. Astrolabe at night was very nice. We love this resort. It is in a great area (Orient Beach), and accessible to mostly everything easily. We have also stayed in Anse Marcel (Le Meridian), The Beach Club, and The Westin. The Westin is a great resort, but ridiculous to get to, unbelievable hills, (I would stay there again.) Anse Marcel is so isolated, when we stayed there the rain washed out the roads- incredibly bad roads over hair pin turns.(would not go over that hill again for anything) Beach Club is Blah. We have always used rental cars and I am not trying to seem that I am afraid to drive here. Driving on the island is not for the faint of heart. Back to Esmeralda- there have been a lot of reports about theft in rooms and the safe in the room. NONE on our trips. That doesn't mean that we leave stuff around, we are very careful. My wife read so many reviews about this, prior to our trip that I was pretty upset. Some reviews said that the power box was disabled outside to get into the safe in the room. Baloney!! the safe has its own power source (battery) and is fine. We stayed in room 505-next to Astrolabe- so it was right out in the open. There are also more security as you enter the Orient Beach area now. The security gate that was at Esmeralda was stopped because of the added security before you get off the main road. No one spoke of any problems while we were there. At the beach we used Emeralda's chairs and umbrella one time and other days we went further away. Satellite TV was upgraded- now they have all the American channels Will we stay here again-yes, but not next time. After three visits here it's time to try somewhere else. Maybe a time share on Little Bay.

We stayed for two nights because we were going to take a Catamaran cruise for a week. Wer had no Idea that this hotel was so far from the airport. $50.00 cab ride. Hotel did not tell us that there were restaurants right outside the hotel grounds. Made us believe that the only restaurant was their's. Minimal menu. Overpriced. Miserable hours. Desk staff and concierge were very friendly. Can not walk to anything from the hotel. It is at the bottom of a mountain. $25.00+ to go anywhere. If you are used to American Bathrooms, you will be very disappointed. Hand held shower with minimal water pressure.

We needed a one night accommodation before registering at our timeshare on St. Maarten. The hotel was clean, the staff were friendly, the pool was refreshing and the room was fine. A parking space for our rental car was a problem. The location of the hotel was away from beaches and restaurants.

Good All-round value

Hotel was in good location but not on the beach but there was a beach a 15-20 minute walk away. Within easy reach of public transport. Apartment was large and well equipped but lacked an electric kettle for those who like to make a cup of tea instead of coffee. Nice pool and pleasant surroundings. Cleaning staff were efficient and friendly but Reception Staff were not so friendly and lacked social skills - there was room for improvement in that area. Overall good value compared with other accommodation in St. Maarten and would stay there again. Very obliging when we wanted to stay on until our flight time.
