I stayed at the Amrath in October 2009 for the second time in about 5 months (both times as a leisure traveler). The value for the money is outstanding, in my opinion, especially compared to hotels in Amsterdam. The rooms at the Amrath - including the bathrooms - are large and clean by American standards, and the housekeeping staff know how to respect a "Do Not Disturb" sign. I find the beds very comfortable. Haarlem is friendly, quaint and picturesque, and very conveniently located to Amsterdam (less than 20 minutes by train). Rooms facing the street in front of the building can be noisy on weekend evenings because of restaurant/cafe/bar noise down below. Free TV channels are all Dutch language, so there's no BBC or CNN, etc.

Hotel manager was like the carton Hero "Tin Tin.
Hotel amazing.

I have never been in such a nice hotel and spend $1,000.00s a year on rooms around the world.
The pice should have been over $500.00/night but it was around $100.00/night.
If you are going to Amsterdam, stay at this Hotel in Haarlem and take the short train ride to Amsterdam.

Booked a getaway to Amsterdam, this hotel was perfect just a short bus ride from Schipol airport and your a 5 min walk from hotel. The staff are very helpful and I cannot parse them enough. The directions and the information was excellent, Harrlem is a very interesting city on its own and It's only a 20 min train ride in to the centre of Amsterdam.....In short Fantastic value and a lovely quiet hotel. Will stop there again.

Right in the centre of this atmospheric medieval city you will find the Golden Tulip Lion d'Or. Established around 1810, this modern-classic establishment is located within a short walking distance of the Market Square. Here you will find the famous Sint Bavo church with the Chr.Muller organ, the Frans Hals and Teylers Museum, Corrie Ten Boom House as well as Haarlem's fine shopping area and entertainment district. Beaches and golf courses are nearby.

What I liked the most about the Golden Tulip Lion D'Or was how smoothly everything run. Check in was simple and easy. Our receptionist was both friendly and helpful in terms of helping us decide what to do that night. Once we got to the room, we found it to be spacious and clean. The large shower (no tub) was a nice plus for us as well. Breakfast had a lot of nice options (hot and cold food). Check out was also a breeze. As to the location, it is essentially kitty corner to the train station, so we only had to lug our luggage a very short distance. Haarlem is a very small town, so being near the train station is not loud or anything. Our only noise complaint happened out of bad luck, as Turkey won a soccer match that night and there was a ton of happy celebrating (for hours). Luckily, the Euro Cup is only every 4 years.

Staff was great, room average red roof inn...no a/c, TV chanels where an extra charge, internet only 1 hour...for 200+ dollars I expect allot more....would not stay there again due to Value,,,stayed at a Crowne Plaza that was 3 times the room for 1/2 the price...
