This was my second stay at this hotel in the last seven-week period, arriving early morning both times. The first time, they let me check in early, but this time, they did not - an inconvenience i did not expect. However, they did call my cell phone when a room was ready.
Although the staff at the concierge desk was friendly, when answering questions or giving directions, some of them assumed too much about the "dumb tourist's" ability to follow their quick directions.

Enjoyed my stay at this hotel, nice rooms (a bit small but that's par for the course in Europe). Staff were professional and very helpful. Hotel is expensive though with no free wifi or breakfast, that I had at a different hotel of equal standard. But the location is great and there are plenty of food options outside the hotel

Hotel was great for price. Hotel staff were very helpful with giving directions and even telling us about takeaway places. Room was spacious and bed was very soft. only downside was the distance. the distance is ok if you know which transport to take. its around 35 euro in taxi to central Amsterdam station. and is you get the 21 bus this take you directly outside central amsterdam station aswell and this is only 2.70 euro for a single adult. overall if you can handle getting public transport over there then this hotel is soo worth the price.

Can't beat the location!

This is a decent hotel with excellent location but it is definitely not a 5 star hotel. I would call it a 4 star hotel with some reservations.
As long as you don't have very high expectations it is very adequate and considering it has one of the best locations in the city - it's a 5 minute walk to the Reich Museum, Van Gogh Museum etc.- I would recommend it. The rooms are large (especially for a European city) some with 2 queens.

Great hotel & location.........but

- Dec 22, 2012
The Barbizon is in a great location and the hotel itself is very nice, however the rooms although clean an roomy do seem to be rather dated. We stayed here about ten years ago and the room decor has not changed since then. Our bathroom still had a shower over the bath. I would have expected a separate shower in a 5 star hotel in 2012.
We struggled to sleep as the room was so hot (26 degrees), the thermostat did not work and our window did not open. I mentioned this to the staff on reception and they said that they would have it checked. I asked if we could have a fan if it could not be fixed. It was not fixed and no fan was supplied, no other rooms were available, so we suffered another restless night.
Moaning finished!
The hotel is in a very good location and only a short walk to Dam Square, all the museums and galleries. Central station is straight across the road so very convenient for travelling to other destinations and places of interest.
I'm not sure if I would use the Barbizon again based on this experience and considering that there is a abundance of hotels of various standards nearby.

The hotel was great -- clean, excellent staff and even better bed -- but we didn't realize how far from the city center we'd be. It's definitely a better business-traveler locale than tourist.

This is a very nice hotel, located in a wonderful town. Unfortunately, they do not provide the services of a top hotel. Currency exchange limited to $100 per day, not amenity offerings for people like myself that was stranded with no baggage because of a weather delay, etc. However, the people were great and the restaurant was above excellent. Overall very, very nice. Just not one of the best.

I kind of enjoyed my stay at the hotel, but I will have to say that their toilet facilities where pretty bad for European standards and it does let them down. But if that doesn’t border you that much, you will enjoy your stay.
P.S. There reception staffs were exceptionally helpful.

Very good luxury hotel

Drew The

Excellent room, large by European standards. The room is above the lobby area, I can't speak about rooms in the converted houses.
I especially like having a choice between air conditioning and an open window. The courtyard let in lot's of sun, and kept out most noise.
My main gripes: no in-room coffee/tea, and far overpriced wifi/internet access. I didn't try it, so I can't comment on speed or quality.
The downstairs internet terminal is good, and free. However it is unavailable when the business center is used to store luggage during a rush.
I don't often stay in luxury hotels, my preference being a good B&B or small hotel. However, the service here was just about worth the price.
The staff is very friendly and extremely helpful.

This is a lovely hotel that my wife and I spent 3 nights at. It is ideally situated close to a nice area for wining & dining as well as designer shopping if that's your thing. As with most areas in Amsterdam the hotel is close to tram stops and a short walk to the nearest canal boat stop. Plenty of museums close by and lovely parks to walk through. Will definitely go back.

The hotel is situated very close to the Museumplein and a tram line to the centre of Amsterdam passes nearby. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. If breakfast is not included and you want to eat in the hotel, order it the night before and you'll save €4.50pp - it's not cheap but the quality is high. Rooms are clean and comfortable.

Excellent location, friendly staff, reasonably priced. Only complaint: get rid of these 30 year old TVs and this stupid menu you have to go through every time you turn it on. Also an international hotel that doesn't have CNN on its menu should consider buying it from the cable supplier. Is 15 euros for WiFi in your room excessive? I stayed in enough hotels where WiFi in your room is free.Otherwise I would and will stay there again

There isn't much to complain about with this hotel. The staff was friendly, room was spacious and comfortable, and the location is really convenient. One of the few minor complaints I have is that the 30-minute vouchers for use of wifi in the lobby is a bit annoying, considering that there are a ton of cafes sporting free wifi all over the city. All in all, it was a very nice stay.

Hotel was great especially the staff. Always wanting to please. We arrived early and the desk clerk not only stowed our baggage while we visited around but also got us into our room about 4 hours early. She was great! The food in the restuarant was excellent but pricey. The hotel history is amazing if you're into design and architecture. The location is in the heart of the city and easy to get buses (right out front) or canal transportation which is only steps away. I would return again. For those however who like to smoke the weed, the hotel has a strong prohibition so it's excellent for the family vacation.

Great, with small reservations

- Oct 9, 2012
By Amsterdam standards this hotel is very good value at the rate we got with e-Bookers. Our basic room had an atrium style "upstairs", giving far more space than is the norm in the city. It is very stylish, but this leads to a couple of reservations that may affect some people.
Firstly, beyond a wardrobe with no shelves or drawers there is nowhere to store anything, so you live out of your suitcase or back pack. Secondly, the bathroom is a glass cube within the room, not all of which is opaque, so not for the shy! The shower has nowhere to put down soap or shampoo. Otherwise I would have scored it 5.
If you can live with those points then the place really is a bargain.
Location wise it's a bit far out if you don't know Amsterdam and aren't happy to use the trams (3 pass within 400 metres). Factor in a 1-day travel card and it's still much cheaper than anything equivalent in the centre.
The people were very good. We had a problem with our shower and it was fixed immediately with apologies and no fuss.
We didn't try the restaurant, but the bar was excellent.
We'll definitely stay here again next time we're in Amsterdam if the prices don't go up too much!
