We had a great room, well appointed with good view. Food was ordinary and service in one restaurant not good. Drink selection was fine but bars for an evening drink limited. The main bar too noisy with poor accoustics and the pool bar inconvenient. Not much chance to dance. Liked the outdoor location for the shows. Excellent cental swimming/recreation area. Beach OK but windy when we were there so can't really comment.
We would go again but will probably look at alternatives.

This was my third stay at this hotel and I have to say that the setting is beautiful ie. the property. I was a little let down with the quality of the buffet food and selection over the last two stays, but overall it still as good or better then most. The nightly entertaiment is exceptional. The pools fantastic. The staff was exceedingly friendly and accomidating. In Short for a relexing getaway at a reasonable cost you cant go wrong with the Occidental Grand in Xcarat.

The staff were very pleasant and polite. The servers at all the restaurants were very welcoming and accommodating. I wish there was more variety in the food offered at the restaurants. The quality of the food was good but there was a lack of selection if you stay more than 3 days. They may want to consider some specials every day to change up the menu a little. The rooms were luxurious and look exactly like the pictures on the website. The hote, public areas, pools, lobby were clean and well maintained.

We enjoyed our time here. It is clean, luxurious & comfortable. But it is quite a way from Playa & it is a pain to get around the resort, because it is huge!

We had a most spectacular stay at the Fairmont Mayakoba (came back yesterday). This upscale resort is set in a gorgeous lagoon with amazing wildlife that spreads over a very large area (but you have golf carts taking you around). The room was amazing (spacious, clean, ultra modern decor), the food excellent (at each of 3 the restaurants they have at the resort) and the service truly wonderful. You couldn't ask for more - with the exception of the price tag. It ended up costing us about $500 per day in all for 2 adults and a 10-year old. But hey, you can't get anything for free nowadays - not even in Mexico. We had a great time and will surely be back there. This resort was right up our alley- upscale, classy, relaxing... BTW, the pool by the beach is stunning.

My wife and I went to this all-inclusive resort and had a great time. We had our hesitations with never having traveled to Mexico but the staff at the El Dorado resort made us feel safe and welcome! We are already planning our next trip back there!

El Dorado Royale is an excellent resort! My husband and I went over the July 4th holiday for a last minute getaway and we loved every minute of it. Without a doubt, what stands out about the resort is the staff and the food. From the minute you set foot at the resort, the staff is right there, helpful, friendly and ready willing and ably providing the best service. As someone in the hospitality industry I am very aware of service and the staff at El Dorado is top notch. The food is excellent and although the portions can sometimes be small, you can order as much as you want and the waiters will gladly oblige you. I do recommend giving additional cash tips, you will definitely notice the difference in service... a dollar here and there is worth it. My only complaint is the lack of authentic Mexican fare for lunch and dinner, since while we were there the Mexican restaurant Rincon Mexicano was closed for renovations. The beach is not the best, but there is a nice stretch where you can swim. The resort grounds are beautiful and well maintained. All in all, a fabulous place!

Very positive all-inclusive experience. Excellent variety of foods and drinks at the resort. They do a good job of providing entertainment and things to do throughout the day and night. A 15-20 minute cab ride from either Playa del Carmen or Cancun will cost you about $30-40 U.S. each way, so if you plan on visiting these cities be prepared.

This was our 2nd stay at Excellence Riviera Cancun- It was just fabulous! We thought it couldn't get any better from last year and it did. They added lunch on the beach daily as well as some new entertainment....The only teeny tiny thing for us would be the beds, for as great as everything is we thought the beds were not comfortable at all. However, with a few blankets we were good to go! the food, staff, entertainment, beach, pool area were all top notch! Looking forward to year #3!

We wanted a honeymoon far from the massive and crowded resorts, but where we could also find things to do. Tulum was a very smart choice, with lots of good restaurants, monuments and archeological sites not that far away, cenotes, and the most exclusive beaches. We traveled during the off peek season and we were very lucky with the weather.

The best romantic hotel we've ever stayed at and we travel a lot. it has all the right amenities--no mini-bar or television, but an outdoor shower, floor to ceiling windows, a private patio surrounded by jungle, and a jacuzzi just off the patio. Staff was warm and attentive, everything we needed was provided immediately. quiet and relaxing

Perfect Family Vacation

This is our second time at the Barcelo Maya Palace. We first went when our daughter was nine months and this trip she was almost 4. The years between we stayed at two different Ritz Carlton Properties. I choose to go back to Barcelo because the grounds are amazingly clean, quiet and beautiful with plenty of relaxation and activities. The restaurants at Barcelo are terrible BUT... the buffets have many "made to order" stations where you can get a piece of grilled fish and veggies, chicken, or steak. They also have a pasta station, the most amazing smoked salmon, Juicing stations, crepe stations, taco stations, etc... The made to order food is good and fresh and everyone can get exactly what they want to eat. The buffets are clean (and I am extremely picky). The fruit was amazing too.
The pool is gigantic and clean with a kids section and quieter sections. Although the hotel was at capacity when we were there we were always able to secure a cabana that provided a "home base" and shade.
The ocean/beach is amazing at this resort. You can walk out forever and still see the bottom. They sell fish food so my daughter spent hours each day feeding the fish and watching hundreds of tropical fish swim all around her.
The Palace is well worth the extra cost. Everything there looks fresher and feels a little more luxurious.
Aside from the restaurants I would give this place 5 stars only because there are plenty of fresh options at the buffet.
Last word...the service was incredible.

Very GOOD experience. The food was GREAT and the the drinks good except the red and white house (no charge) wine was horrible.
The beach was very nice and the staff helpfull.

Great time at the Grand Palladium

The Palladium complex is huge! There are 17 restaurants to choose from. The beach is big and the sand is nice and powdery - great for walking.
The snorkeling right there was great. Lots of fish. There is some sandy spots for swimming and also rocky spots for snorkeling. The rooms were nice too. The staff was great, always very friendly and always willing to help. Had a wonderful week and would recommend to everyone.

The staff are amazing! They are so hospitable and friendly. Event though it's all inclusive, we tipped regularly and the staff did give extra attention so it was worth it. They work darn hard and deserved it.
The food is okay, and there is plenty of it!
We had a room with an ocean view and it was worth the extra $20, that's nothing to have the waves lull you to sleep at night.
The VIP breakfast tour is a time share sales pitch and wasted too much time. We got a credit for spa services that were just average.
We had a blast and enjoyed the low key atmosphere. It was relaxing and what I was looking for. Great value!

This is our second time at the hotel and we like it a lot, but there are a few things that hotel needs to work on: there is always shortage of tiki umbrellas and beach chairs at the beach front and many people in order to secure it have to get up very early to through something on the chair. Sometime by 7:30 am there were no free chairs left. I don't understand why hotel can't put more umbrellas and chair at the beach. There are plenty of space there. Second, there is 'rule' that beach towel can only be changed until 11:00 am and only once a day. This is a first hotel I've been at, that puts such a limitations. It does not make sense - first of all some people come late to the beach or pool, and if towel is very wet why can't we change it after 11:00 AM? And lastly, it maybe our luck, but for some reason, cleaning of our room was happening between 4:00 and 5:00 pm, right at the time when we would get back from the beach, even if we put sign "Please, clean our room now" at 9:00 am. We had to actually go to reception and request that our room would be cleaned in the morning.

Great resort for relaxing, enjoying the spa, drinking and eating!
The staff was amazing! And the rooms were so clean and comfortable.
The spa was great. It is totally worth it to pay a little extra for the unlimited spa package. We spent an hour or two at the spa everyday and loved it!
The only negative - there wasn't a lot to do at night.
Its a fairly small resort which is nice, but not big enough for nightly entertainment. There were dancers one night on the beach. But there is not a nightly show or theatre like some of the other resorts.
Also, not all the restaurants were open, but that may have been because we were there during a slow season.
Overall worth the $$.

We were there for a week and the staff wss excellent. The food was well prepared and to our request. Especially from Rita the egg cook in the morning.
Plenty of chairs by the pool and in the sand. The beach is washed away but there is a nice one about 2minute walk to the right of teh facility.
Looking forward to return.

The beach was literally one step out of my front door. Roman the hotel manager was a little creepy and pushy. Told us every day he would get us a taxi/beer/tours. He just wanted a cut of the cash. Room was kinda gross but the bed was comfortable, gave us fresh bottles of water everyday, shower was cold salt water but we figured out that if you turn kn the kitchen sink while showering t will be warm in the shower. I recommend it but not if you're spoiled traveler.

We have just returned from out 4th visit to Dreams Tulum, so we must like it there. It is a great location, with a long beach to the south of the resort. We like to stay in the older part of the hotel, but the downside is the plumbing - we had a blocked toilet three times and had to have the two sinks and bath attended to over 5 days. Other people complain of this, so it must be endemic to the older part of the hotel.

Overall experience was great! Staff was very friendly and greeted you everywhere you went at the resort. It's a perfect spot for couples who need some quiet getaway as there aren't many kids and college students.
Food was pretty good. The only downside is that you would need to pay at a pretty expensive price for imported wines like from Argentina, France, Italy and the U.S.

25 minutes from the airport. Amazing location on beautiful Maroma Beach. Food is outstanding. Favorite meal was the veal at the French restaurant. Staff was so friendly and they'll remember you by name for the length of your stay. Rooms, pools, bars all great. Had an amazing honeymoon and would love to go back again!

The reason why I picked secrets silversands was that we stayed at Dreams La Romana in Dominican Republic last Christmas and had a wonderful experience there. And Secrets happened to be under the same company as Dreams. However, Secrets Silversands was not as great as Dreams, and we were somewhat disappointed. There's no buffet styled restaurant for dinner, and they don't serve bottled drinks for room services, whereas Dreams had that. And also, the kinds of fruits were very limited as I was expecting exotic tropical fruits, but all I can get there was regular fruit that I could easily get in Canada. The most important thing is the BEACH is not that clean. Some seagrass and wood stuff keep staying along the beach and no one cleans it. They hurt your feet, and you won't feel happy swimming in the sea, and the pictures you take there will look disgusting.
In a word, if you are staying there for a non-holiday seasons, it should be good as you are not going to pay that much for disappointment.

The distance from the lobby to the beach is approx. 1 km, the logistics of transportation is Golf carts based on where a fleet of 10 trucks to transport the resort guests and operate daily. No connecting rooms and all are of the same approximate size of 46 meters, including the balcony. The only difference rooms on the first and second floor above is that they have high ceilings, palapa (6 m). There are 3 pools: 750 mts3 for adults, another for young mts3 636 and more than 102 mts3 for children, plus has different games, water park type. You will also enjoy an estuary (river-type cenote) where you can use kayaks and snorkeling. Quiet get-away with friendly staff

Xpu Ha is in transition. We had also been here two years ago, both times with all-inclusive deals. Then it was a palace resort and more was going on. We absolutely LOVED our stay last time. Now, as a Bel Air resort, we're unsure of where Xpu Ha is headed. Many things around the resort are either run-down or gone (no animals anymore!). The only Bel Air "improvement" we could note was the addition of a sushi restaraunt (which was a strange experience). Positives that remain include wonderful staff, cool rooms, nice pool & pool bar and a general peacefulness of the place. On the downside we were first disapointed to see the animals and animal rehabilitation center gone. The giftshop is also closed leaving no place to buy amenities. The rooms are a bit run-down but still maintain some of the same charm. Palace remnants are gone such as labels on phones, menus, robes, etc. We were also disapointed in items no longer included in the "all inclusive" such as tips and room service. Finally, the restaurant menu looks exactly the same as it did two years ago and is in severe need of upgrading/updating. After a week you realize that you've had everything on there and half of the items utilize the same red sauce. We still had a nice time there but hope that Bel Air will decide to restore Xpu Ha to it's previous wonder and not run it into the ground!

This was our 2nd time visiting this hotel. We are not "lifestyle" but enjoy the openess of nudity. The best part about this hotel is the staff always going the extra mile. Things like the gym, spa, and lobby are outstanding. The food is the worst of any place we've visited, but the saving grace is the midnight pizza. It's expensive to stay, but you get privacy and an upscale experience. From the champagne in the lobby to the cleanliness of the rooftop jacuzzi, it's a great vacation.
Overall, we'll be back and it's worth the money. Hedo, Temptation, and Couples offer a college kid trip. This is an older more sofisticated experience.

Positives: Fantastic location. Beautiful beach and grounds. Restaurants / Food are excellent with a choice of Japanese, Mexican (authentic not TexMex) and Italian. Quality and presentation of meals was faultless. Massage Man was amazing - genuinely friendly.
Negatives: Overbooked (we were transferred to a sister hotel for our first night - apparently this isn't uncommon!). Rooms are clean and nice-enough but perhaps not fitting for a "luxury" resort? (we stayed in the standard room but at $500+ per night you expect better...)

We really enjoyed our stay at the El Dorado Maroma. The hotel and the rooms were really beautiful and the staff was lovely, friendly and helpful. The beach was just sooo beautiful, and some of the extras - such as waiter service on the beach were very welcome!
There were some teething problems though, and areas in which I could suggest improvements. Firstly the housekeeping was a little temperamental - our room was very clean and lovely, but we got the turn down service on the first night, and no others. Some days our mini bar fridge would be refilled, but not others. The timing of when the room cleaning differed dramatically, so on one day when we wanted to spend the afternoon on our balcony after 2pm, the room wasn't clean and we didn't end up getting it done that day.
Also, we felt that whilst a lot of the food was lovely, the menus, including for room service, were a little limited, and the Italian and Japanese restaurants on-site were not that great.
One major issue we had was that an error had been made with our booking, and that of a number of other customers on the day we arrived. That meant that we had to spend our 1st night of only 5 in total in a sister hotel, a 15min drive away. We were compensated for this with a free speciality dinner, and a couples massage, but it was still frustrating, as one of our full days was broken up and reduced by the fact that we had to check out of the sister hotel, and back into our original one. Whilst they couldn't have been nicer about the whole thing, it was still a little disappointing when we had spent what we considered to be quite a lot of money, and only had 5 days in total.
We would however go back again, but I would probably try to get a slightly better rate, as I think we paid quite a lot! :)

This hotel easily would have received 5 stars if they hadn't guaranteed my reservation from [...]for one category of room (with associated higher cost), and then upon check-in told us that category of room was completely booked throughout our stay and gave us the cheapest category of room. I even had [...]call several weeks ahead of our trip to make sure all was in order with our reservation. Completely unacceptable way of doing business!! If you plan to stay here, plan on paying for something you do not receive. The beach, staff, food, kids' services are otherwise great.

The Azul claimed they had water damage to some rooms and made us switch resorts. They lied and said that they would send us to a better resort but I had done my research and knew they were trying to send us to a lesser resort. we insisted that they send us to the ElDorado Miroma and after wearing them down, they agreed. Loved the resort but could have been a disaster.

Went on a 5 day trip with my friend, I mean my sister, I mean my girlfriend, I mean my wife. Anyway, the hotel was huge. Staff was very helpful and courteous. Grounds were well maintained. There were a variety of food choices. Food was above average. Beach was big. Pools were nice. Lazy river was relaxing. All in all a very nice resort. Would definitely recommend. Just wanted to say thank's to the Iberostar staff for making our stay a pleasant one.

Exceptionally designed and groomed grounds with acres of water, tropical flora and some unusual wildlife to enhance it. Immaculately kept.
Friendly staff.

This is Azulik villas in Tulum, a small cluster of fifteen private beachfront villas with a spectacular view of the Caribbean Sea. Beautiful resort, was perfect for a family vacation. The food,rooms,and service was top notch. The beach which was over a mile long was fantastic with soft white sand and Palm trees, and of course the water was spectacular. Great snorkeling right off the beach on the reefs, with plenty of colorful fishes and turtles.
Make sure you take out a sailboat for a refreshing ride and see the resort from a different perspective.

This resort is paradise, the accommodations are clean, comfortable, and top-nocht, the beach is great for snorkeling, right at the shore, the food is good with a variety for all tastes, the best part was the entretaiment they are outstanding, our kids were never bored, they was always something for them to do, games, competitions, cooking lessons, and tours. the staff is accommodating and friendly, we are going coming back!!!!!Big time.....
