Poor Attitude and extra charges.

We didn’t think it was possible for hotel workers in Mexico to have a poor attitude, but they do here. Watch out for the extra charges on check out. If you are missing a towel, or key-card, any of the registration documents, or even if you didn’t wash your dishes, they will charge you. Room was nice but a bit dilapidated.

Second stay and will go again.

This was my second stay at Emperador. For the price, the room and location can't be beat. It's a great value as the rooms are clean, comfortable and close to everything. The interior rooms are a good deal if you're only there for a couple days, otherwise upgrade to a suite for a great ocean view. The staff - Claudia, Ian, Danielle and Mario are sweet & very helpful. You can certainly stay at beautiful all inclusive resorts with jacuzzis, pillow top mattresses and more conveniences, but you can do that anywhere. I'm a fan.

Back from a beautiful vacation!

  • Matt and Marcos
  • Oct 11, 2011
My partner and I stayed at this hotel for 7 nights and had a wonderful stay. The hotel is very modern, especially considering how "rustic" many of the hotels in Puerto Vallarta are! The staff were mostly bilingual and answered all of our questions. The pool on the roof was amazing! We were up there quite a few times. The hotel also has a elevator, for those concerned about walking with luggage. Overall, a great value and we really didn't notice the noise issues many seemed to have. There is some construction in the neighborhood but nothing crazy. Our only complaints were having your room key power the room, so when you leave for the day, you come back and the room is VERY warm. I wasn't such a fan of that. And the power went out twice while we were there, however, that seems to be more of a local issues, as our friends were there with us (they were at two different hotels) had the same problem. But overall, a great value and a great location to experience true Mexican culture!

The hotel is not new, but has been well maintained and they are adding new things, like a new pool that opened for new years. The location is perfect, walking distance to great restaurants and nightlife. Over the holidays, it was full..yet there was always space on the large beach. I would recommend the superior rooms... Worth the little extra. Great views. The beds were comfortable, and rooms were very clean. Can't wait to go back. Just don't expect the Four Seasons, punta... You are not paying the same for a reason! Open your mind and have fun!

We stayed at Villa Premiere from Dec 23 - 31. As usual, the staff is outstanding and very attentive to requests. Rooms are clean and comfortable. We only ate at the resort for breakfast or lunch as the Malecon with great dining options is a short walk away. The major benefit of this resort is the adults only format. No loud speaker music and games. Just adults chilling out. Will definitely return.

Our Honeymoon Was PERFECT!

  • Kelly N.
  • Aug 23, 2011
Wow. Where do I even start?? We picked this hotel because of a few reasons... 1. NO KIDS, 2. Location 3. Option of all-inclusive We were not dissapointed! We went during PV's rainy season, which we were a little nervous about, but it turned out that the rain and gloom didn't even start until sunset, and then we got the coolest lightening shows all night every night! The weather was nice every single day...up in the 90's with lots of humidity. Because we went during "off-season"...we were able to take advatage of there being less people at the hotel than there normally are. It's a small hotel (compared to the dreams resorts, etc), with about 80 rooms or so. We paid for the all-inclusive package with the master suite (which is nicer even than the honeymoon suite) and it was a beautiful room....the pictures don't even do it justice. It's one block from the Malecon, and a short cab ride to the romantic zone. PERFECT location! We checked in on a Sunday, were given a drink and a massage before being taken up to our room. The grounds were beautiful, the pools weren't crowded, the bar was never busy, our room was always cleaned perfectly every single day, and turn down service every night. They had a Vallarta Adventures employee in their lobby, so she was able ot help us out with our different activities we wanted to do while we were there. The concierge service was wonderful....we had so many helpful people I don't even know where to start! They all spoke english perfectly and didn't hesitate to point us in the right direction. We do wish the food selection would have been a little better, but other than that, everything was great. We can't wait to go back! I had an 80 minute massage while I was there, and although pricey, it was wonderful. Jorge at the bar made great drinks! Armando, Eduardo and Socio were awesome servers....and Veronica in room service was so sweet and even gave us extra chocolates on our pillows :) All of the front desk gals were incredible and so helpful....Lisandro was great with the cabs and helping us with different places to go while we were there. I can't say enough good things about this place...can't wait to go back...the perfect honeymoon!!!!

Great for families! But here's some unpublished info..

  • laforge2001
  • Jan 12, 2012
We traveled in a relatively large group. It was about 3 families going together. What the hotel doesn't really tell you is that there is an extra charge if you want your room cleaned (about $12/service), there is an extra charge if you want wireless internet in your room(about $8/night) and you only get one reservation at one of the 3 onsite restaurants. Of course, they have a "Premium Club" that you can join that will give you all those things for free at a cost of another $60 per night. It turns out to be a decent deal if you already had a bargain package vacation deal to begin with, but it would have been nice to know these limitations beforehand. With the premium club, in addition to receiving all the previous things for free (along with unlimited reservations to the restaurants), you get a top floor room that has TWO bedrooms and two bathrooms! So, if you plan to do the premium club option, don't make the mistake of booking multiple rooms for different families. It might even be better to call the hotel first to confirm before booking. Additionally, you also get a complimentary bottle of tequila, champagne and chocolates. You gain access to the "premium lounge" with your own personal concierge who can exchange cash for pesos, along with access to some top shelf alcohols that you can pour yourself. You also get a free city tour of puerto vallarta which was mostly pretty boring except for the end which was a tour of a tequila factory. The tour was informative but it felt like we were also stopping at the tour guide's buddies' businesses along the way. If you have kids you may want to buy some snacks and drinks at the drugstore across the street from the jewelry store stop. Because after that, it is a pretty long journey. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They did seem spread a little thin at the El Patio buffet area. So, we often had to flag people down to get some service. I would recommend going across the way to the los arcos side. We found the food at the El Patio side to be generally bland, with a few exceptions. In general, the restaurants onsite were nothing to write home about. The bars and bartenders were awesome and did not skimp on the alcohol at all. They were more than accomodating for things like warming up milk for the babies and what not. Even though we got our room cleaned for free, the maids often just took our old towels but did not replace them with anything. That was frustrating. Besides that, we liked the resort and would probably return.

First time in PV.

My expectations were low after reading a lot of the reviews. As a thirty something traveling solo, I found everything to be adequate and the staff extremely friendly. I billed three food/bar transactions to my room and I was charged properly. They didn't hesitate to give me the 10% discount on room charges that was advertised as part of my package. The requirement to wear a wristband is understandable given some of the security issues they mentioned (items being stolen by visitors). It was a little funky that I couldn't show my friends my room without paying a visitor fee. There is also a fee for having someone over for the night. This seems to be a common practice at the surrounding hotels. The experience was pleasant, but after learning the area, I'd consider staying somewhere else. You don't need to be on the beach, and as a local bar owner mentioned, they seem to be riding on their reputation for being the first gay resort on the beach.

Presently and for the past few years there has been construction which is pretty much fine. Portion of property was now sold to Hilton so there was renovation of the pool area and the restarant on the beach was moved to lobby area. They built a new pool (family pool) and have an adult pool which was where the old pool was which they opened up on this past monday which was after we left. I wish Ihad been aware that the pool area was under construction so I could have scheduled my vacation a week later when it was opened up and the restaurant by the pool was open. There are new owners. I think when the renovation is complete it will be an excellant resort again.

The access to a quiet beach was ideal. That was my favorite part overall. The swimming pools and the front desk lobby were very attractive. I also loved that they always had a taxi ready for you and that there is a mini mall and supermarket within walking distance. It's about a 50 pesos cab ride to the city center and 80 pesos to the airport. Both a straight shot so location is pretty good. The concierge could be a little more informative though. It was difficult to get readily available information without having to ask a thousand questions first. Also, the overall look of the outside walls and balconys could use a little touch up. But all in all a nice stay. Felt like a secure area and was generally comfortable.

A 5 star experience at 3 star prices

  • Dec 25, 2011
This is the third or fourth time we've stayed here. The hotel is right on the beach in Puerto Vallarta. The Hotel offered a great deal and we took it. The Los Archos complex consists of 3 hotels. The staff is fluent in English, Spanish, Frence, German, etc. The main hotel, where we stayed, has been renovated (it was always clean, well appointed, and everything worked) and is a top spot for peso pinching visitors from other Mexican cities. This hotel is South of the main Plaza in Old Town. It is a safe, clean, well-priced location to really enjoy a MEXICAN vacation (not like the Miami experience in the Hotel Zone or Neuavo Vallarta. The neighborhood has city housing and million dollar condos, street food (tasty and, for us, healthy) and top-flight restaurants, etc. The South of the river side of PV is the place to be. It's 1/2 the cost of the "Hotel Zone," Marina, or NV but as much fun. P. S. PV is as SAFE as Minneapolis. The police were everywhere the tourists flocked and we even saw a few patrols of Naval Infantry (Marines) from the local Navy Base.

This is a perfect, small Mexican family style hotel. The rooms are clean, the location is great and the staff is most attentive. The pools are clean and refreshing, the spa was delightful and priced right and the two iguanas living the in courtyard/on the roof are usually sleeping. The food, particularly breakfast and lunch were very good (AI) and the drinks were powerful. I will stay there again.

Had a great time at Dreams. The food and service was better than I expected. The seafood was top quality. We had a smaller room in the old tower. The room was small, old looking, but clean and well kept. I spoke with other guests and there are nicer rooms available but we didnt spend much time in the room anyway. Too much fun outside!

Convenient Base Camp

  • Happy Base Camper
  • Dec 5, 2011
I've stayed at Costa Sur twice. It appeals to me because it's perfectly located for a base camp or for just relaxing. It's on the beach, yet the bus stops in front and there's always a taxi available. It's far enough from town to ensure a little quiet and less vendors, yet it's an easy beach walk (about 2 mi.) to town. The pool area is relaxing and has a bar and outdoor restaurant. Popcorn is served at 5pm, and some nights have music and dancing. It attracts an older crowd, of which I'm sure I am probably MUCH too young to be part of. But I like to relax here, whether it's by the pool or from my room's ocean view balcony.

So I returned, Jan 2-6, 2012 and once again it was par excellence. The food at Emiliano Restaurant and beach Club incredible, the accomodations fantastic and the service and amenities just out of this world. This is a place where Everyone is SPECIAL and all are treated like Royalty....You become a part of a family, a pampering home away from home place you wish to return to and share with everyone you know. This is the place, the ultimate experience, spa, golf, food, drinks, service, atmosphere, ambiance...Simply the Best of the Best!!! Do not let the "not on beach" dissuade you, it is on lovely grounds overlooking golf course and you can be shuttled by private A/C van to Private, exclusive beach club 3 minutes away....Best service anywhere with the best restaurant Emiliano in PV....Go once and you WILL go back again and again. Hi We stayed 8 nights over Christmas and new year on an all inclusive deal (i.e. included food and booze). We had an oceanfront suite and the view was awesome. The room was nice and clean and spotless every day. I ate breakfast and lunch there. That was fine. We ventured out for dinner. The facilities are nice. Two things... It is by a busy beach and noisy They have terrible "doof-doof" music playing on the audio system at the upper pool all day - making it enjoyable. Otherwise, all good and VERY close to many bars, restaurants, massage, etc. I would go back. AW

Garza Blanca is extremely beautiful and the rooms are wonderful with large balconies, a hammock and jacuzzi. The food was decent, the drinks fantastic (try the cucumber jalapeño margarita. We found service to be quite good, anything we asked for we received and the wait, pool and bell staff was extremely friendly and willing to assist with anything you needed. The ceviche and the fajitas at the pool were quite good. The food service is quite slow but we just knew to expect that. We had dinner at Blanca Blue one night it was so-so. We did the all inclusive which was a great value even with us going to town for dinners. The location is remote in that you cannot walk to any type of store and there is not one at the property so it is a good idea to have the taxi stop on your way to the hotel if you want to pick anything up. There is road noise but with all of the water features in the pools and the surf it was not that noticeable. We would return.

Positives: Beautiful small hotel. Rooms are more like condos than hotel rooms. Location is good. Beach is small but nice. Staff is nice. Like free shuttles to town 4x per day. Negatives: The Garza Blanca is building a large addition across the street and the construction noise was loud from morning til night...reversing trucks could be heard from the pool. While the rooms were very clean, the pool area and beach tables were often not cleanup up by 10:00 a.m. from the night before which we found sub-par. I would recommend this hotel, but think it is a 4 star versus a 5.

I stayed here for a week with my two teenagers. We spend a lot of time in Mexico but always stay other places--Cuatro Vientos, Los Arcos, Casa dona Susanna--but stayed here just to try someplace different. We found the Buenaventura very nice--clean, good service, overall all a "pristine" tourist experience. The kids club looked fun and all the kids were engaged and closely supervised. We ate on the property three times--one breakfast, one lunch, and one dinner. We found the food clean and well prepared but totally uninspired--your basic sort of buffet/cafeteria stuff although we did have bar-b-que ribs that were tasty. The deserts were ok except for the little tres leches cake---those were very nice!! The free coffee in the lobby in the morning is a nice little touch and the pastries were fresh. But you can walk next door on the beach to El Barracuda and get much better food for half the price, or just wander down the Malecon and eat local specialties--corn with chili, roasted shrimps, mango on a stick--all the good stuff! Or hit any of the neighborhood places for excellent local food. The Buenaventura spa is nice but extremely overpriced--a mani-pedi is $1000 pesos. If you walk one block down the street to the neighborhood spa a mani pedi is $300 pesos; walk on downtown and it's $200 pesos. The Buenaventura is perfect for people who dont speak Spanish and just want to drink, play a few games of pool volleyball, relax by the pool, and basically just chill. It's great for a very sanitized version of Mexico. For people like me, it's way too bougie. It didn't feel any different than if I had been in San Diego or Orlando or any large sunny city hotel with a pool. Personally I don't see the point.

I can't say enough good things about this hotel. If you want value for money, especially "all-inclusive style", then this is it! Fantastic Location, both on the beach and downtown at the same time!. An endless supply of unbelievably good, well prepared food. Specialty full-service restaurants at no extra charge. Friendy, happy & helpful staff. Only two negatives, and these are very small in the overall experience: Noise from guests, especially inconsiderate ones, really travels along the inside corridors and penetrates into the bedrooms (think this is the inherent nature of the open constuction of the hotel). This is a great value hotel and at the weekends there can be an influx of guests whose noise, children and different cultural behaviour can be unsettling and annoying to the traveller seeking a relaxing and tranquil vacation.

My friend and I went to this resort over our Spring Break and were presently surprised. While the first day or two we were there there was hardly anyone else there, the more it went towards the weekend the busier it got. The nice thing though is that it was never over run. The food was just average, but the Marina has plenty of great good and is really safe to walk around in. The best part hands down of the experience was the staff though. They were happy and helpful and made the experience totally worth it.

Small hotel, room includes breakfast...fruit, coffee and toast (bolillo). Staff super helpful and friendly. They speak some English, I speak some Spanish. Request a ground floor room unless you enjoy stairs for health. I did both. The price through Orbitz was more than reasonable...only three blocks from the beach and supermarket and little restaurants. I ate on the street mosltly, delicious fresh tacos. If you want luxury, not for you. More like a European Hostel, but better.

Pleasant experience. Older hotel, but very clean. Initial room given was too noisy. Told by desk it would take two days to move. Husband spoke to manager next morning, and we were moved to very quiet location. Food just o.k. Nothing to brag about. Beach lovely. Enjoyed the adult pool very much. Very comfortable environment. Would visit again.

1/10/11 This hotel is a good value in a great location. I was there for 5 quick days by myself, kind of a mental health break if you will. The staff was wonderful, making a single traveler feel welcome even in a place that seems best suited for couples. The food and drink were basic but very good and served by a staff that really seems to care. The rooms, while somewhat dated were clean and functional. Overall it’s a good solid value and well worth the price.

We just returned from a wonderful two week stay at the Marriott in Puerto Vallarta. Located near the marina, the hotel is quite and only about a twenty minute ride to the excitement of the town. The rooms are clean, comfortable and generous in size. What sets this hotel apart from others is the friendly, accommodating staff. Without exception, the waiters, bellmen, pool attendants, chambermaids, front desk clerks and concierge go out of their way to serve your needs and be helpful in any way possible. My only complaint is the weak, uneven wifi service.

This was our second stay. Our first stay was in a studio unit which was a little snug especially the shower. Our last stay was in a handicap room which was excellent for us. However a person in a wheel chair could not roll into the shower. Location is excellent and taxi fare is usually less than $5.00 to every thing you need. including down town Puerto Vallarta, an excellent shopping center, equal to or better than most state side centers, gambling, excellent restaurants.

The Villa Del Palmar in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico was definatly a great place to go. I would reccomend friends to stay here. The room was perfect for a couple and the grounds were nice. The pool was definatly the place to be during the day there. They had activities at the pool such as games, dancing, and best of all tequilla volleyball. Definatly a family atmosphere there though, lots of kids enjoying the pool and its waterslide along with waterfall. If your looking for something more intimate I wouldn't recommend this place just because it seems to be a more family orientated and retired person get away. But it was still nice! The beach was just steps away with vendors and watersports. And the drinks were good. It also had the all inclusive option which we did not take, it worked out well with us, but seeing the price [...]had for it and the hotels (which was doubled) definatly book that sort of thing online!
