Playa Del Carmen Hotels

We had a good time but there are definitely something's the resort can do to improve. First my family was Dissapointed with the beach if you're looking to spend time on the beach. There really isn't much entertainment and the little entertainment that they do have is over by 10 pm. After that there's absolutely nothing to do. We were forced to our room by 10 pm. The staff was great other than the person they assign you to speak to immediately after check in. I was so irritated with how aggressive they were for us to attend their presentation even after I said no we were not interested. On his second attempt to convince us he had a really bad attitude with us. We went to ask if we could go kayaking that day he told us they were booked we later found out that we didn't need an appointment. I don't think we would ever consider staying here again.

Not enough variety for sit down restaurants! Buffet meals were not up to snuff!

Great location right on the beach. Staff is friendly, pool is great and grounds are beautifully maintained. Food quality is average. Limited room service menu.

This is the fourth time we have stayed at the Riu Palace Riviera Maya. The food is wonderful. They have an excellent selection of foods at the Buffet each morning, afternoon, and evening for dinner. If you like to dress up a bit, (pants for men, nice shirt) the five restaurants are also wonderful. If the food was not to your taste then just go to the buffet after. We used room service each morning for our alarm clock. We woke up to a gentle knock each morning, and ate yogurt, breads, coffee, and tea on our outdoor patio. Then after a relaxing wake-up, we would put our towel out where we wanted to enjoy the beach, or pool, and would go have a delicious breakfast of Huevos Rancheros, fresh fruit, and anything else you can think of and enjoyed that with a few Mimosas and coffee. Answers to some complains I have read: If the bed is too hard, ask for an egg crate to be put on your bed, we did. If you want reservations at the restaurants make an effort to be by the lobby bar at 11:40 and you will be able to eat at whatever restaurants you would like. Bring a locking suitcase for things you buy or expensive items you have. Lock all valuables up in the safe. Don't be lazy and try and hide items in your room. To me, lock it up or you might lose it. Not any different than staying at any hotel around the world. Bring an insulated cup from a dollar store. Your drinks stay colder. Then just leave them there. If you think your drinks are weak, then order a shot with your drink, remember they are included. If you need something from the staff, we always called the front desk. Someone is always at the front desk. Don't be cheap. Yes tips are included. But you can still throw a few bucks around. An extra thank you goes a long way. Housekeeping and all the staff are just trying to make a living. We always bring a $100 in ones. And we keep them in our pocket or in the safe. We love the Riu Palace RM, no complaints in four years. Use common sense. I am not saying everything always went perfect, but then again it's far from a perfect world. We were on vacation and not at work so we enjoyed every day.

My wife and I stayed with another couple after spending a week in Riviera Maya on a company outing. We decided to stay for a couple of extra days and check out Playa Del Carmen. The condo was beautiful and very clean when we arrived. The location could not have been better. On the beach and 100 ft. to 5th ave. We were only a 10 minute walk to Walmart where we filled up on groceries. We were able to use the facilities at the resort next door and the pool was amazing. My only complaint was that there were weird sounds in the walls that kept me up at night. Our friends had the same issue. Our bed made a lot of noise also, but those were the only issues. We were on the first floor and I think the noises came from the buildings water pumps, etc so you will probably not encounter this if you're on the second floor or above. We read a lot about the sound of the club keeping you up all night but the club was not in the building as some reviews would lead you to believe. You could hear it a little in the back bedroom, but it wasn't bad. The condo and location could not have been better. I would definately come back.

We travel to Playa regularly and this was our third trip this year. I rarely write reviews unless we were truly impressed and Corto Maltes exceeded our expectations. LOCATION: This condo is on the beach in the central part of town within walking distance to almost everything and this my friend cannot be beat. The area is a "busy" part of the beach and is full of positive energy. "Busy" beach does not mean wall to wall people; merely, restaurants and beach clubs are close and you do not have the isolated beach to yourself. AMENITIES: Our condo (#303) was well appointed, the kitchen had everything and every appliance needed for cooking a multi-course meal and the roof-top terrace had its own shower and bathroom. Each condo is individually owned so decor/amenities will vary. Ours was spectacular. NEGATIVES: First of all, when we leave the United States, we leave our "expectations" at the border; after all, we are in Mexico. Mexico has made great strides in the last decade but their infrastructure is still not as developed as the US. This condo had problems with water pressure. We would have water for 2 minutes then no water for 2 minutes then water for 2 minutes etc... Long, luxurious showers were out of the question. Also, the dive shops unload their oxygen tanks at 7:30 AM and the clanking/ringing of the tanks was like an alarm clock for those who were still sleeping. Fortunately, I awaken for an early run each morning and this was not a bother for me. SUMMARY: Minus the water pressure, this was almost the perfect beach condo. I very highly recommend this place.

My husband and daughter recently stayed here from July 30th – August 8th. We had basically perfect weather couldn’t ask for better for the rainy season in Mexico. The resort itself is fabulous. This is our second time here and it has gotten better. The food is great especially all the different deserts. The pool great the beach phenomenal lots of soft sand and clear warm water. Really enjoyed this vacation! The Iberostar friends are awesome. They work so hard as do the cooks, cleaning lady, waiters and waitresses. Only downfall is people didn’t seem to be tipping. These people work hard so why not appreciate them. (You will be appreciated back!) Great place for families lots of kids of all ages!

The hotel is clean, comfortable, and pretty, the grounds are jungly and beautiful, and the food (especially the Mexican offerings) was very good. The staff are helpful and friendly. Oh, and the beach is gorgeous. It was a little crowded since we were there over spring break, but that's to be expected. Our kids also loved looking for agoutis and monkeys, though the latter are very loud in the morning! We had no complaints, and would definitely go back.

This place was great for the price. It is within walking distance of the beach (2 min), 5th ave shopping and dining (5 min). The hotel was quiet and the employees were very helpful. Most importantly the AC in the room was awesome! We will definitely stay here again.

It has the greatest location so near to mamitas beach and pretty close to the 5th avenue, walking distance. The arquitecture and desing of the hotel es beautiful!

Very nice. Nothing against kids, but it was nice to have the separation. The staff are wonderful...a facial is a must! The room was described as ocean view but it was only visible if you stood in the right place on the balcony on a windy day. The view was still beautiful, but should not be described as ocean view, not worth the upgrade. There are courtyards between buildings that offer beautiful areas. Rooms were cleaned daily along with occasional turn-down service. Room service was prompt and friendly. The food thru out was very good, lots of choices. The pool set up is nice to have a party feel or a private feel. You are not able to enjoy the ocean waves. There is a large reef that creates a small area to swim and there are nice beach areas. The transfer did not show when scheduled. The credits have limitations. Set up any appointments right away, they fill up fast and it will take half of your day to complete.

My wife and I got married on 12/30/11 and headed to Aventura Spa Palace for our honeymoon. The resort was about an hours drive from the Cancun airport. Once we got to the resort we were both greeted with cool towels and a nice drink. We then proceeded to check-in then a bell boy brought us up to our room taking care of all of our bags. On the way to the room the bell boy explained the resort, the restaurants, what was in the room, where to get what. He was very informative. Once we got to the room we thought it was ok. Not amazing, not terrible. It was a nice room overall with a two person jacuzzi tub. It had a fully stocked mini fridge as well as a fully stocked liquor bar. The one thing that I really didn't like was the bed. It was nice and big but was very firm and didn't seem very high quality. The bathroom was smaller then we expected but was still nice. The shower was large so that was really nice. The resort itself is beautiful! It has many walking paths and many areas to check out. The pool and lagoon were very pretty and was a great backdrop to just relax. The staff was very helpful always making sure you had a drink. Also, my favorite was that the pool bar always had fresh tortilla chips with fresh guacamole (yum!) as well as other toppings. You could also order food from the grill. The staff had music playing somewhat loud close to the pool bar but if you traveled away from that you could find some nice quiet areas to relax. The food was ok. I wouldn't come here for the food. It was definitely fine to eat but lacked something for both my wife and I. I suggest finding your way over to the Aventura Cove Palace (right next door) and eat there. We loved the authentic Mexican restaurant at the Cove! It was very very good! We also took a day trip up to the Playacar Palace in Play Del Carmen. There food was amazing as well. The great thing about the Palace resorts is you can still eat at all of the different Palace owned resorts in the area even if you are not staying there. This was definitely a plus for us. Also, the Playacar Palace was right on the beautiful beach of Playa Del Carmen. So Beautiful! Definitely worth a trip or taxi ride up to see it. Overall we really enjoyed our stay. The one downfall that we experienced was as of 1/1/12 the hotel was beginning to use a new computer system to book all of the activities through (using the $1500 credit they provide to guests). The system was very slow so made arranging activities somewhat longer then expected. Then when we went to checkout to head to the airport they had in their system that we went over our credit amount by $200 which we did not. It took 45 minutes for them to get it straightened out which caused a little panic as we were worried we would be late for our flight. In the end they fixed it and everything turned out fine. I recommend checking with the front desk to take care of any expenses the night before you plan to checkout so if something is wrong you have enough time to deal with it. I would recommend going here. It was very beautiful and the staff was very good. Please remember to tip the staff as they work very hard to make the resort a relaxing and great experience for everyone.

Perfect for those looking to unplug and avoid the all-inclusive resorts when visiting Playa del Carmen. Not very heavy on the amenities, but very relaxing and beautiful. The staff isn't in your face trying to get you involved in activities, but are there for you when needed. The food varied in it's quality from very good to mediocre with dinner. Breakfasts were same menu all week which suited me - especially the fresh juices!

location is wonderful if you:re looking for a quieter area of Playa del Carmen, yet walking distance to 5th Ave - the major strip of eats, clubs, stores. breakfasts unbeatable with flavorful frest fruit as well as Mexican and American standards.

This hotel has basic accommodations but really clean ones. If you want to be in the center of it all and save money, this is the place. I usually spend all day at the Beach and Beach Clubs, so this hotel covers my basic needs of sleeping and showering. Really recommend this place to Budget Conscious People who travel a lot to Playa del Carmen and Cancun Airport.

Booked this last minute when a flight got canceled and we didn't make the last ferry to Coz. Right on 5th Ave but quiet in the rooms. Great price. AC worked once we figured out the one we first saw near the floor stopped working years ago and there was a second one installed near the roof. Biggest issue is the hotel would not accept our reservation on our phone. They demanded a print. Well we made the reservation from our phone from the airport. There was no print. The clerk couldn't use the computer to let us print it. It was 2am and we were dead tired and had to pony up cash for a room that we had already paid online.

Wonderful spot to relax, enjoy the beach and go to the spa. One of the best spas in Mexico

This was our 2nd trip back to the Banyan Tree Mayakoba. This hotel is absolutely spectacular. The decor is spa like simplicity with beautiful Mexican touches throughout with vast views and structures. The staff is amazing; thinking of every need and then some. This is a luxury hotel and more. The food is delicious especially at Saffron and Tamarind for dinner. They outdo themselves at the Oriente for breakfast. Loved having lunch at the Reflection Pool. Efren makes the best Cucumber Daiquiri and Spa Cocktail!!!!!! Wait til you see how amazing the villas are.... If I had to make one suggestion for the Banyan Hotel it would be to heat the pools; very chilly but otherwise this hotel is unbelievable and we will definitely be back again and again.

We really enjoyed the pool area with both the bar and pool opening till late. Location is good! rooms are very clean and confortable. gret value for money totally recommend it

Couldnt beat this place for a sexy getaway to playa. Staff were profesional and room was kept immaculate. Beatiful rooms with all marble rain showers. Clean spacious. If you get a room above the first floor bring earplugs if you plan on sleeping before 0300. The rooftop parties do thump a bit. First floor rooms are plenty insulated from it though. Delicious breakfast included? ?? Amazing value. Walk to beach in 10 minutes easy. They even gave us beach club passes that got us a bed and umbrella in paradise! Go there already you wont regret it.

Decent location. Quiet street. Too many beach clubs nearby but if you don't mind the "parties" at night, its a great spot.

Easy get away. Only 45 minutes by cab from Cancun airport, 1 block from beach. Playa Mamita's is the closest public beach, about 500 yards. Great penthouse at a good price.

The staff was very nice! The food was as well. You can't beat this location for the price! It doesn't feel like a huge resort and its peaceful but you are a quick walk from the shopping and restaurant district. If you are looking for fancy this is not it, but its not low quality either! I will come back to this place! One thing! Do Not Leave Personal Belongings in Front Porch Area!! My tennis Shoes were stolen overnight. But nothing inside the room. So housekeeping was great! Breakfast Buffet is a Must! Concierge was very helpful! So Was the wait staff! TIP!!!! Many people complain and complain about service but NEVER tip! I got Fantastic service! (not a coincidence) Walked over to 5th ave to shop around and eat at some of the local restaurants. Don't Stay Too Late! come back by sunset. No TV's in the rooms is really nice! Bring Books or get one from their library or Bring your laptop cause there's free wifi all rooms at hotel. If you like to drink on the beach you can order drink by drink or just order a Bottle!! Easier and cheaper. Ask for specials at the spa! Their spa people are great at their job! I've stayed in many places around that area and I will go back to this one.

Las Palapas is a great, quiet hotel by the beach. Staff is great, everything is clean and the food is pretty good - breakfast is excellent! The perfect place to relax, do some scuba diving in the excellent shop next door (cyan-ha). Only drawback is the music from the beach club next door (mamitas), but there is nothing hotel management can do. Luckily it is only a few hours in the afternoon, and usually the wind would blow the sound away from you at the beach.

It was beautiful overall, with one exception. This place has recently became an all inclusive. Before that it was members only or time share resort. With that being said beware, first because the members really don't like you being there and some will tell you because you are branded by a band, second they try to sell. It was nit high pressured just pestered and looked down/shunned by some of them. A little uncomfortable. With that being said I cannot say enough about the wait staff throughout the resort. They bend over backwards to make you have a wonderful vacation, and they are very grateful people for very small things. I can only name a few but there were many, Rene, Fernando, David, Jaimie, Santos, Rosalina, etc. Those were just a few that touched our life. Food was upscale and we've been coming to Mexico for some 12 yrs. As much as I would love to go back there, a little hesitant due to upper staff trying to sell and residents ticked off with us all inclusive people.

We booked the suite not knowing it is a timeshare facility!The hotel’s building is a BIG architectural mistake, it is ugly, huge, with lack of attention in the potential of the site and environment, as an architect was not easy to move around and don’t notice it!We had a card from our concierge at the door when we checked out, then a phone call at 9 AM which woke us up and that was all the attention we got from the staff during our stay! The maid doesn’t wash the dishes or clean the kitchen!The front desk didn’t tell us what kind of programs they provide for the guest and basically they don’t understand there is a difference between the time share owners and those who rent the suites! Our dishwasher was not working and one of the chairs in the balcony was torn, they didn’t get fixed during our 9 nights stay! But it is in a good location and close to lovely Playa De Carmen, it has nice pool and towel service and bars!

I've stayed at a lot of high end hotels and resorts, but this one topped them all. The all inclusive 5-star dining was an unbelievable experience. All day, anything you want - all you had to do was ask. And they delivered anywhere - in the restaurants, at the pool, in your room, and even on the beach. The chefs were outstanding. Hotel was very child friendly though I don't know why I'd spoil my kids with that experience. Had both adult pool area and kid pool area which was nice.

Extremely good. The only think was thta in high season( Easter) they were overwelmed, specifically in dinner at specialities restaurants. The room is big, and we think the best value is the one with junle view instead partial or total oceanview considering cost differences.

The staff at Casa Ticul, particularly Diego, was wonderful! The hotel is small with no on-site restaurant, but they served nice continental breakfast every morning on the rooftop. They are right on 5th Avenue so walking to restaurants is no problem. The hotel provides excellent Wi-Fi service and is perfect for travelers looking for something clean, affordable, and simple.

This hotel has the feel of a bed and breakfast but with many of the amenities of a 4 star hotel. The rooms are very comfortable and SPOTLESS! The utilities, AC, plumbing are in great working order. The daily FREE breakfast is a real plus for divers wanting some nourishment before hitting the reefs. Although I didn't use it there is a dive shop just next to the hotel. The hotel, located on 5th St., is removed enough so you don't have the nightly noise but close enough to do some shopping easily. I will be returning to this hotel soon .

Terrible, they cancelled our reservation when we arrived arguing stupid and various things because they didn't know what to do so they blamed a group of guests that didn't checked out, and also they are supposed to be pet friendly and they also based on that to deny me my reservation because of my dog. I definitely don't recommend this hotel, it's awful.

Great location in the center of all the good stuff. I found this hotel when I lived on 15th & Constitutientes while eating at the awesome local restaruant "La Fimiglia" across the street. Two blocks down 10th is the beach and Zezies beach club a must do and Scuba Playa best dive shop in town. The hotel is beautiful and very quiet in the interior. Great price for those who don't care for all inclusive.

This hotel is located one block from 5th ave, which is a plus point. Staffs are very friendly. The only downside was i have encountered ants in the room and i have complained at the reception but No solution was found. I was stuck with ants for whole 14nights. Overall my experience, i would give 3and half stars.

No hot water in the night. Called front desk but no one answered. Good location though. Hotel is true from its name: design hotels.

Stayed here 9 nights over Xmas 2011. The room (307) was a stellar value - jacuzzi tub, great bed, bright room, excellent double shower. The rooftop was an amazing place to chill, usually there were just a few guests. It's a great place to read and relax and have a drink. Hotel staff were excellent all around, really personal service. (Thanks, Oscar!) We had the daily breakfast here that was included, but added eggs, etc. Much higher quality than breakfast at most of the places around the corner. Hotel had a European vibe to it, very similar to our last stay in Barcelona. There are some good restaurants around the corner from here. Highly rec. if you don't like cheesy mega hotels and generic service.

gemütliches kleineres Hotel ganz in der Nähe der Quinta Avenida und in ein paar wenigen Minuten am Strand. Hotel hat mit 3 Beach clubs vereinbarungen, dass man denen ihre Liegestühle und Sonnenschirme benutzen darf. Als Gegenleistung wird sozusagen eine Konsumation erwartet - ist aber eigentlich kein Muss. Einziges was man bemängeln könnte ist der Lärm der Strasse - wenn man aber nicht grad in einem teurer PrivatHotel Richtung Playacar absteigt, kann man dies kaum umgehen. Im Gegenteil das ist das Aventura wohl sogar eines der Besseren.

If you're looking for a mid priced hotel in Playa del Carmen, this is it! The staff is very friendly and will help you out with meal recommendations, beach reservations...anything you need. The rooms were nice, clean and well decorated, but don't expect a 5-star hotel. We would definitely stay there again...and will next year!

Riu Yucatan provides a good value to the vacationer. Location is excellent, so close to Playa Del Carmen but removed from the yahoos in town. Having said that, we did encounter loud/drunk individuals at the resort (singing and yelling at 3, 4 and 5am!) and the staff appeared indifferent to the noise. The food was o.k. with the Mexican restaurant being the best. Mixed crowd from Mexico/Europe provided great people watching opportunities. Beach is wonderful. Be careful at the buffet . . . food-crazed humans appeared to forget manners as they stampeded through the food lines running into others without regard or recognition. With these few criticisms aside, we had a wonderful week at the resort. Definitely a great value for your money! Next year, however, we will look for a more quiet and remote resort.

The location was amazing, the staff was great. Had such a wonderful holiday! The food was not good and the beds were really uncomfortable but those things didn't really matter because everything else was so good. I would definitely recommend this resort and I would absolutely go back! Felt very safe and welcome.

We loved the Kinbe. The best part was the location ....right between the beach and 5 AVE. It was a bit loud at night but the AC muted the music from the neighborhood. We thought the beach club, Sensi, was wonderful and because of the agreement with Kinbe we got a 10% discount and had wonderful service and awesome beach chairs for the day. I loved the jungle vibe!

Our friends stayed at a $600/night all inclusive resort down the road, that we just couldn't afford so we chose the least expensive room at Kinbe to save some money. The only complaint I have is that the room was a little small, so I recommend getting one of the rooms overlooking the pool. I think they're a little bigger. Staff was very friendly and helpful, beach is within easy walking distance, and the air conditioners work great. (needed in August!) Also, not nearly as noisy as some other reviewers posted. It is a bit of a club scene party town, so be prepared. Great clubs and restaurants all nearby. Overall a great trip.
