A colonial Boutique Hotel (few rooms, personal ambiance) close to the historical city center and next to a subway station. Ours suites were spacious with a stylish touch. Staff was very friendly. Choice in restaurant was limited. Rooms towards street can be noisy. Cool (in both senses) lounge on the roof. No pool.

We were only here for a quick overnight, but staff helped us with local directions, an early morning wake up call, and an early morning taxi to the airport. The room was small, but modern, clean, and very comfortable. Overall, this was a great value.

Fantastic location

  • JHSL
  • Apr 26, 2012
The Best Western Majestic isn't a luxurious hotel by any means, but it has old-world charm with its talavera tiles and elevator with a safety gate. The best thing about the place is its location: right on the Zocalo, within a stone's throw of the Palacio Nacional, Metropolitan Cathedral, Templo Mayor, metro stop, Turibus stop, all sorts of restaurants, and shops. Be warned that while the view is great for rooms facing the Zocalo, it can be rather noisy with the daily 6 a.m. flag-raising ceremony, church bells on the hour and quarter hour, demonstrators, traffic, etc. Also, the rooms do not have air-conditioning or refrigerator.

Best possible location in Mexico City

  • gofeld
  • Apr 16, 2012
The Majestic is an old, mildly worn, but atmospheric place. What makes it extraordinary is its location on the Zocalo (central plaza) directly facing the National Palace and within close walking distance of the entire Historic Center. Many of the rooms front on the Zocalo, which is ideal for watching the daily flag ceremonies and other public displays. When special rates are posted, it is really quite a bargain, and the rooms, while old, are certainly comfortable and clean. One problem: Many of the rooms are out of range of the alleged in-room wifi, and it becomes necessary to do your computing in the lobby. Overall, an excellent choice for Mexican history and culture buffs.

Description
With 11 Suites with patio views and 6 Master Suites with street view balconies, the hotel has been settled in one of the most antique residences that currently maintain such particular XVII century style. Known as the "Palacio de los Condes de Miravalle", the red volcanic rock walls, the multiple doors and window quarry frames and the handmade cement tiles, along with the magnificent patios and a spectacular stone-forge staircase provide the building the unique flavor of the Mexican vice regal style. The design concept of the rooms by Cherem-Serrano architectural firm, comes from the need of maintaining the essence of the original materials as wood beams, ribbed vaults for the ceilings, clay tiles for the floors living together with the new and raw materials as the basalt floors and the red brick lattice for bathrooms partitions, achieving harmony between them. Note: Airport transfer is available at extra charge. Hotel also provides the facility of Lobby and reception.

It is a great location, just minutes away from a metro stop. It's across the street from a park that has tons of music and vendors and people going on all during the day. Important sites like the zocalo, bellas artes and the president's office are within walking distance. The room itself was not impressive--there are no amenities like coffee makers, remote controls, heat/cooling adjustment. For us, we did not spend much money and we did not intend to spend much time in the room so it worked out for us. I think the staff would help us if we needed anything but they are not overly friendly or accomodating.

This is a good hotel in a not so good area. Great comfortable rooms and huge bathrooms. It's about 8 blocks off Juarez and then about 5 blocks to Zocalo. It's not the distance but it's a hardware/retail area and after dark it's pretty empty.
