Rooms old colonial but very clean and comfortable. Linens and towels changed daily. Hair dryer and extra towels supplied on request. Friendly and helpful staff. Great breakfast in the open air patio. Even though there was street repairs all around we found it very quiet.
The entrance to the Hotel is in a small park with lots of vendors, musicians and outdoor cafes and bars.
The main square is one half block down and one block over. The are many fine restaurants with in walking distance. But if you are expecting the Hilton, you will be disappointed.

Description
The Hotel Casa Lucia is a small deluxe boutique hotel located in the historical center of Merida. The colonial style Hotel has it's setting in two different neighboring homes built towards the end of the 19th century. Located in the Santa Lucia neighborhood, the Hotel takes it's name from the nearby church of same name. The Hotel building, which was remodeled recently, preserves all its historical architectural elements, while at the same time allowing for the necessary modern guest comforts
The rooms of this colonial style Hotel have floors of marble, high ceilings, and hand painted wall decorations. The bathrooms are ample and luxurious, covered with quarried Guatemalan marble, equipped with tubs, water pressure showers and taps made of English porcelain. The decoration of Casa Lucia combines several epochs. Special attention was made in preserving the French "Art-Deco" style of the building; wherefore the stained-glass "Tiffany" windows, the handmade blacksmith art works, lamps, rugs, oil paintings and furniture characteristic for that period. Here guests can enjoy incomparable comfort and luxury in a colonial style house that perfectly combines tradition and modernity.
Hotel Casa Lucia boasts its own restaurant, "Cafe Lucia", which offers guests both international and typical local dishes. A fine example being the well-know "lime soup". In the hotel you will also find the fashion-line store "Fabrizio", specializing in fashion and high quality linen garments, including the traditional yucatecan linen "Guayabera" shirt.
The Hotel is graced on the outside with outstanding gardens, abundant rose trees, bugambilias and two splendid stone fountains, covered with mosaics of hand painted Talavera tile.
Casa Lucia offers tranquility in the heart of the ancient and colonial "White City of Merida". Guests feel far away from the bustle of downtown . Hotel Casa Lucia serves as the perfect base from which to explore the many contrasts that this fascinating city has to offer.
Because of the Hotel's excellent location, guests have easy access to the historical center of Merida. Considered one of most traditional cities in Mexico, Merida continues to be a very important cultural and culinary center. Hotel Casa Lucia is only three blocks from several important tourist attractions of note: the Plaza Grande, the Cathedral, and the Museum of Comtemporary Art. The surrounding area is also a commerical center for traditional antiques. Nearby is Santa Lucia Park, where the well known Yucatecan musical Serenades are carried out every Thursday.

Great Location & Great Staff

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The front desk staff would always assist us in booking last minute tours of different sites around Merida. Additionally, they would obtain and research for us the response to any questions that we had about traveling around and outside of the city. Casa Lucia is a great location between the center of downtown Merida and the famous Paseo Montejo. I would recommend this hotel to everyone. The hotel prices are very affordable.

10 Day Yucatan Getaway!!

- Jan 22, 2012
My Wife and I spent 10 nights at Hotel Casa Lucia with all our needs well looked after by the very accommodating hotel staff -- Debbie, Mario and Enrique were always able to answer our questions and provide information on various things to do and see; Carlos in the restaurant was always attentive at breakfast and made wonderful Cafe Americano. Our room was very large and comfortable with a king bed and good shower. The courtyard and pool area are private and great for sitting to read a book or have a glass of wine in the evening. Location is an easy walk to the Grande Square and many very good resaurants. Watch out for hungry mosquitoes wherever you go in the Yucatan!!

Biz Merida
-
BizWoman
- Jun 6, 2010
I went to Merida for a 4-day series of Conferences. I booked online at Piedra de Agua and I was uncertain of the hotel at first. To my surprise, Piedra de Agua is a 3 yr-old boutique hotel with excellent personalized service. Cute little pool combined with a nice lit up bar. The marble stair walks you up to your room, which , at least in my case, was charmingly decorated with natural fabrics and iron works in combination with dim lights and other natural textures...even the amenities were crafted by hand.
The hotel is located only a few steps away from the main plaza, Palace of Governments, etc and on the same street that leads to bigger hotels commonly used for biz conferences and talks.
The only "but" maybe was that they didn't have enough plugs around the room to either iron or connect your cell phone or/and computer.
I did recomend this hotel to a bunch of people dring my conferences and Im pretty sure could go back to it if it was for personal reasons the I had to go back to Merida.

Nice, but below my expectations
-
El Ponch
- May 7, 2012
Bathroom is really small. There is no window in room, but a wooden door to the balcony, so a little sunlight would be nice to have.
Rooms are only cleaned before 2PM, so you cannot sleep late. Front desk called frequently to the room to ask for permission to go in and clean.
Late checkout is charged for 1/2 day rate, and wouldn't allow an extra hour.
Pool area and hamocks are really nice, and location is fantastic. Nice hotel, and great value.

A Charming Colonial Hotel In The City Center
-
Old Jim
- Mar 2, 2012
This no Hilton or Marriot, and I don't like Hiltons or Marriots. You may disagree.
The Casa Del Balam has unique charm, old stateliness, and a helpful and friendly staff. Frommer's is a better guide than their desk man, however.
This hotel's very long suit is location. It is in the midst of many of Merida's best small restaurants. You can stay out on the Paseo Montejo, and eat imitation Yucatecan food and see mostly other Americans, or you can immerse yourself in the downtown of the colonial wonder that is Merida. Life offers choices...

Hotel in Centro

Casa del Balam is a very nice Hotel located in the heart of Centro. It is bit Old but very well maintained and has the flavor of Merida that I was looking for. This was my 1st trip to Merida and I wanted to stay in Centro. You are within walking distance of just about everything ...very close to Paseo de Montejo and many restaurants. If you are looking for American TV at night, that will not happen. The continental breakfast which is included was fine. The restaurant in the Hotel was lacking. The lighting is not very good...you feel like your eating in something other that a restaurant but the service was very good. I would recommend this Hotel to someone looking to stay in Centro. The value is very good

I wish I could have given the staff and particually Alexander a 6 as he and all the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. The room was comfortable, quaint and charming. We were upstairs which outside there was a shared patio with some tables and chairs which was fantastic for a couple of cervezas before bed. Downstairs there was a shared kitchen where a full breakfast was severed (although we missed it). There is a fridge with water, soda and beer to purchase at a very reasonable price at any time.
The whole hotel is very quaint and charming and centrally located making walking to destinations easy.
There is a pool about a block and a half away at a hostel which you could use. It is actually a nice walk and a nice pool which even has some hammocks over the water.

Good hotel... just a few issues
-
Paul
- Jun 9, 2009
The staff was very friendly and generally spoke English well. After working out an issue with the booking and getting moved to the correct room; it was a good week in Merida. The only complaints are that Internet is about $15 a day and on weekends there was a band playing at a nearby bar that could be heard from my friends rooms and my room on the 2nd and 5th floors even with the windows shut and curtains closed. If you plan on using the Internet I'd suggest finding a nearby Internet Cafe and ask to be moved to the other side of the hotel if the music bothers you. Other than that; the pool was clean, the restaurant appeared to have a good breakfast, and it is in a nice location near the center of town with many shops and restaurants in close proximity.

Both nervous cells and the cells of the skin emit this substance, which is the reason why cocoa arrived at the comfortable massage spa tables, a place from where the guests will be reluctant to leave.Ambience transcends, the spa can be considered as unique in itself like the Cocoa that inspires it; aphrodisiacal, stimulating, satisfying. Wrapped in exotic aromas and natural essences and combined with minerals, in treatments carefully provided for your total relaxation in a Spa of the highest level.Fitness specialist Phillip Geerts is highly qualified and experienced to provide you professional guidance and expertise while working out. Hotel Montejo Palace is a hotel greatly appreciated by tourists and groups that visit the city of Merida, because of its excellent location, affordable price and comfortable facilities. It is a four-story hotel that reflects a colonial style. It features a colonial architecture, with an arches and columns' structure, a spacious lobby and expansive green areas, for open-air relaxation, in addition to a refreshing pool. It offers delicious regional and international food and a spectacular dance and singing show on the weekends. Hotel Montejo Palace is without a doubt a great option for the budget traveler.

Basic Hotel....
- Taina
- May 5, 2011
I stayed in this Hotel my very first time in MERIDA 2 years ago and everytime I go to Merida I spend my first night here. I only stayed 2 nights and the rest of my vacation I stayed in bigger nicer Hotels, it was a very basic hotel nothing fancy, but my room was clean and it is located right on the MAIN STRIP "PASEO MONTEJO"...very nice location. The safe is downstairs behind the counter so you have to give your things to the front desk personnel and they are the ones to handle the safe, I did not like that. However it served it's purpose I was only there to sleep. My room had a small yet very nice living room with antique Spanish furniture. I had the view of the city from my balcony. It is a very economical hotel and again basic hotel.

The hotel is a reasonable experience and not anything luxury per se. The pool is small and typical of pools. The wireless access is not provided inside the rooms as one would expect but only in the lobby. The staff, although courteous, recognized only basic english phrases. The buffet is good, but costs 100 pesos (10 dollars US) which is not a listed cost anywhere that I could speak of. The first day, I made the mistake of thinking it was a free breakfast like so many hotels do. The second day, one of the staff mentioned the tip was not included in the breakfast buffet. I kinda of thought it was ridiculous to tip for collecting plates, since I could walk them 10 feet myself to the bin to be washed. Also, the hot water did not always work very well. It was never super hot, but sometimes it simply did not work, and other times, it would take minutes for it to get marginally warm. I guess the plusses are that the staff does seem to understand english somewhat...a rarity for some hotels. The hotel is also somewhat old fashioned and which is a plus if you like that kind of thing in mexico. The balconies are nice...the A/C is good, and generally the staff was very courteous. The hotel also seems to have tours you can purchase directory from one of the first floor shops though I did not do this. The buffet is good, if not a little expensive I thought. If you had to, I suppose you could do a brunch at the buffet and be good the rest of the day. It is off the main stretch so it is convenient that way as well.

Frequent traveler to Mexico

The staff was very friendly and very happy happy to please us. We arrived in late and they offered to order pizza for us. It was very clean but the only complaint I had was the bed was a little stiff but not that uncommon for a hotel bed. It's a beautiful old world colonial with a pool that is out in the sun. Within walking distance to most city attractions.

Description
This delightful 7-room auberge deluxe is located in the heart of colonial Merida. An oasis of urban tranquility, the original buildings date back to a 19th century noblemans estate that have been recently restored and embellished with modern touches to combine the best of five star hotel luxury with the timeless grace of the palatial haciendas of the Yucatan.
Built around a central courtyard and huge gardens, much of the original structure has been retained: the arched verandas, high-beamed ceilings, enormous wooden doors and cool floor tiles. Walls coated in hues of deep red, sky blue and ochre add to the hotel's contemporary character.
The Villa is blessed with a friendly Canadian/Mexican management team who create a relaxed atmosphere in spite of the grand surroundings. There are just 7 guest rooms, all different, making it feel more like a private home than a hotel.

After 30 yrs of travelling I found the worst hotel ever!!
-

- Mar 6, 2012
Ok, so the hotel is very modest, no problem there. and supposedly is also affordable, there! we found the problem!! After paying 103.00 via internet for two nights stay I ended up paying another 85 USD for the same reservation. You see, the hotel employees either pocketed the money or the owner does not know what he is doing. The rooms are smelly, the showers are slimy and the staff is unawere of the meaning of service. After many years travelling I managed to find the worst hotel ever in the whole world. Hotel Aragon! if you can help it, stay away!!!
