This hotel is OK if you are planning to stay only a few days. The room cleanliness and comfort are average. It does not have internet so if you are going on a business trip I would not recommend this hotel. The hotel restaurant has good food and good price.

Great location, authentic feel....

  • Room with a view
  • Jan 25, 2012
I really enjoyed my 5-night stay at La Siesta. The room was clean, the courtyard had a unique Mexican feel. Although it does not have fancy amenities, it still had enough for the value: I got free wi-fi that worked in my hotel room; there was a very nice smaller pool just not heated; and the view of the ocean was great. However, the best thing I liked about the hotel is its location close to the old city, restaurants, and stores that were walking distance away. Also, the Puerto Vijelo restaurant a block away had some of the best seafood I tasted!

Quaint Surprize

  • The Nomad
  • Nov 10, 2011
This hotel is a nice surprize indeed. The hotel is a quaint mexican style of hotel. The rooms are big and airy. Your room is kept very clean by the staff but this is a mexican style of hotel. Don't expect everything to be gold plated or top of the line. Everything is ample and this place is comfortable. The location is excellent. You are just across the street from the beach. There are many great restaurants in the immediate area with a few really good plazuela's within walking distance. Entertainment is free if you know where to look. Music and good food can be found at Plazuela Machado, dancing at Plazuela Zaragoza and so on.

I went with three girlfriends for a little getaway, and we had a fantastic time. The staff were perfect -- incredibly hardworking, friendly, fun. The place is spotless. The food was decent. The buffets were really good, and the steakhouse was also really good. We didn't try the other two restaurants because we heard from other people that they were bad. The drinks were amazing! All-inclusive is the way to go! The pools were really nice, but there was no hot tub, which was a little disappointing. The room was very nice, but the bed sizes were strange. One super huge king size, and one really small full/double --- it was more like a slightly oversized twin. It was pretty quiet when we went (january), but we heard it's way too busy in the summer.

A clean, well-maintained economical hotel. The staff are friendly and helpful. The restaurant has good basic meals and is popular with the local business people for meetings over breakfast or lunch. The location at the south end of the "Golden Zone" isconvenient to many excellent restaurants and across the street from the beach. The best testimonial is the number of repeat visitors we meet every year.

The Pueblo Bonito Mazatlan exceeded our expectations in every way. The facililty was neat, clean and beautifully staffed and maintained. All arrangements, including transportation to and from the airport, were efficient and on-time. After touring the newer Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay, we feel we greatly preferred the 'home-i-ness' of the Mazatlan location. Wait, bell, desk, concierge and maid staffs were friendly and helpful. Food was excellent at reasonable prices. An older property, meticulously maintained: just right for people like us who have modest means and high expectations.

Nice, but not our favorite

  • Coleone
  • Nov 26, 2011
We have been going to Mazatlan for 16 years and stayed at a number of resorts. This was our first experience at Pueblo Bonito. Overall, it is a superior hotel for the area and charges on the high end. At check in, the first question was "Do you want an ocean view or pool view?" That's a pretty good start. Then they told us to go see a seniorita in the corner at a desk for our room key. That was not good. She was their time share rep and we got high pressured to go to their resort at Emerald Bay (for $200 food credit). We had already seen EB, but got tired of arguing and wanted to get to our room so took the deal. It's an older hotel that is a colonial style, which we like, but the chipped tiles are showing their age. Everything does work very well - lots of hot water at high pressure, toilet that flushes better than ours at home, and a very functional kitchenette. This is a plus since food and drink prices are relatively high at the resort itself. The beds are extremely comfortable, and the powerful AC drowns out any noise that might make it through very thick walls. The location is at the far north end of the Golden Zone. This is a plus for the beach since it makes it very private, and it's a nice, flat walking beach. However, it is further away from many of our favorite restaurants than we are used to. The bus does stop right in front, which is cheap and a big benefit. The staff was inconsistent. The room was not always done perfectly despite regular tips (maybe they weren't considered big enough). We don't leave a messy room by any means, and finally just started having the room done every other day. The pool waiters seemed a bit unmotivated in many cases. The drinks are $8 plus tip for a plastic cup national drink, so most people seem to wait for the single happy hour at 4 PM and get two-for-one, which is a fairer price. They add on a "donation charge" for each day you stay there, and it appears on your final bill, although they don't point it out to you. It is small and supposedly for charity. The cashier said they take it off if requested (we left it on). It was just a minor irritant that they seem to try to slip an unannounced charge past you - petty for a first class hotel I think. Not a bad two weeks by any means, but we will stay at another resort next time.

we stayed here the 3 nights pleasantly surprised. decent price for a facility of this size and amenities. location was excellent. lots of places outside for dinner. booked thru this site and got checked in VIP, seperate hospitality check-in from front reception. Julieta personally checked us in. very polite and friendly. very impressed with service. were offered free internet access in common area and rooms. also access to their hospitality reception which had computers/internet as well as snacks and drinks. the hotel was connected to the moro and granada so had use of their facilities. the beach was ok but the pools more than made up for that. the pools were heated and large. definitely stay there again. if it weren't for the hotel being a little older than the others I have stayed at, i would definitely given it a 5+.

Quiet Nice Place

  • Minnesota Mom
  • Feb 10, 2011
We had a one bedroom suite, it was great with two bathrooms and a king size bed. The balcony with two chairs and table was great for morning coffee or afternoon cervesa. There were a couple things we needed when we first got there and they were attended to immediately. The time share ladies in the lobby jumped on us as soon as we were checked in, but told them we had been to Mazatlan at least 15 times and they left us alone after that, which was nice. The only thing I would have liked to have had was service around the pool, we sat out by the pool many days and the bar service was non existant. We did get one waiters attention one day, and he brought us two beers, and we never saw him again. We enjoyed the location, it is quiet up on the northern end and the beach is right at the door step. Overall, a very nice place for the price.

Nice stay...

  • bethw2u
  • Apr 20, 2011
We have stayed at Las Flores at least 8 times and have always enjoyed our visit. The staff is attentive and personal, seem to want your visit to be perfect. Our room was comfortable and well appointed -- except the two beds were full sized and very very firm. It would be much appreciated to have the option for a king size bed with a comfortable (i.e., SOFTER) mattress. Our shower only delivered lukewarm water for the first two days, but the requests to improve the hot water resulted in an entire 10 days of pleanty of hot water with great water pressure. We were in Mazatlan March 9 to 21, 2011 -- it was really depressing to see the very empty beaches and restaurants. It was so sad to see the beach vendors looking to make a sale to anyone, but there was no one there to sell to... There was also a higher police/military presence and a notable increase in graffiti and closed businesses. It was not the Mazatlan we've visited in the past. Though we did not feel endagnered or threatened in any way, it will be a while before (if) we visit Mazatlan again (and I say that with a heavy heart). For future visitors, the ocean front suite at Las Flores is a great option for families wanting a little privacy for spearation of sleeping and living spaces. We were there when the earthquake hit Japan but found limited access to English speaking news sources via television or radio. A USA Today newspaper was about $4.50 per day-old edition at the local vendor. Plan to bring a lap top or note book computer if you wish to stay in contact with current events or people at home. However, our internet connection was difficult to obtain and less than reliable when finally established. We ended up paying a few dollars for 30 minutes on a land-line computer to complete 'necessary' communications. NOT an ideal location for an internet-dependant working vacation. Wish you all the best on your travels.

Service was bad!

  • WorldTraveler01
  • May 18, 2011
6 of us stayed at this hotel in 2 rooms from May 12 to 16, 2011 for a wedding at another El Cid hotel. From the check in girl to the information desk ladies, service was horrible. The check in was difficult with the lady helping us as she couldnt understand that we had 2 rooms and not 1 for 6 people and gave us a bit of an attitude when we asked for a key for each of the guests in the rooms. WiFi is not free in the rooms. It took 15 minutes for someone to finally give me an access code over the phone since I was connected to 4 different people each of which informed me it was 80 pesos for 24 hours of WiFi. Servers at the buffet were attentive, but you were basically pounced on by servers trying to get you to sit in their designated areas. This was very unappealing. Our second visit to the buffet, we had Francisco, who was great. He even gave us a discount since we arrived a little late for the breakfast buffet and they put food away before we could finish eating. Pool service was great. The information desk was by far the worst! They completely ignored us while we stood there. They chatted and texted amonst themselves even though I kept saying "excuse me" in both spanish and english. I finally had to go get a bell boy for them to help us and then they gave us the wrong information. The rooms were fine. They show their age but the beds were comfortable and the showers were great. The 2nd room we had, had some issues as well. We could not open the door and finally called down to the reception desk who sent up maintanance. We were told that the batteries were low on the lock and that someone would be jumping from the balcony next to ours into our room to unlock the door. You would think the hotel would check their locks for battery life. In an emergency, this would be a great danger. I will probably not be staying here again. I'll stay down at the El Cid Marina, where the staff is competent and helpful.

The mattress in our room was the best we've ever had at a hotel. The pillows were uncomfortable. The coffee maker didn't work, but was replaced at our request. The maid was wonderful, and brought extra pillows and towels at our request. The staff was very friendly and eager to please. I would definately go back here.

Upon arriving at the hotel we met many employees who offered to assist us with anything that we needed. We were there for my sisters wedding for 6 days and all 6 days the entire staff were vary accomidating from finding hair stylist for us, giving us personal shuttle rides to and from other el cid resorts, shuttle ride to the cathedral, water taxis, telling us the hot spots to go out at night, offer free room service the day of the wedding, countless things, the LIST CAN GO ON & ON. [...] and [...] were specifically the most helpful! My experience at el Cid Marina is definitely one to remember!!!

El Cid Marina Hotel is good, clean place to stay with friendly staff. They have several other properties in Mazatlan with a shuttle that goes from one to the other for most of the day. I like that. The one negative, some might consider, is that El Cid Marina is a bit outside the bulk of the hotels. Plus, the rooms were good, but not excellent. But that's being picky. Overall, I recommend this hotel.

This hotel is a bit older than most but has been upgraded and they are constantly working on it little by little. This Hotel has the best beach front in Mazatlan and the pool is next to the beach so you can watch the waves while sun bathing. The loungers al have cushions on them and no other hotel I seen had cushions. The poole is always warm and not to deep. Like i said you don't have to lie on the beach to enjoy it from this hotel. The bell Captian Renaldo and Bell Boys Rafael and Arturio cannot be beat. The most helpful bell boys I ever met.

Nice Hotel

We stayed at this hotel for 4 days as all inclusive guests. The hotel for the most part is nice and well kept, the room we stayed in was a little "worn" , but for the money we paid, it was certainly tolerable. The waiters, front desk and maids were all very polite and attentive and overall it was a very positive experience. My only negative experience was at check in. We arrived slightly early (approx 1.30pm), we were given a room immediately, but they would not give us our all inclusive colored wrist bracelets until 3.00pm. I mean, come on, how much "free food and drinks" could we possibly consume in 1.5 hours? It kinda spoilt the holiday mood a little bit but , I guess the hotel has rules about this. Other than the check-in thing, everything else about the AI was great and well worth the money that we paid. I would definitely use this hotel again.

I have been traveling to Mexico since I was nine, but it has been over 30 years since my wife and I have been back to Mazatlan. The recent U.S. press regarding the violence is SO overblown. I spoke to a number of U.S. and Canadian citizens and they felt the same way. El CID Granada is being converted into the corporate HQ for all of the El CID properties, so we were moved to the Castila across the street. Our rooms were comfortable and class to all of our dining choices, since we were on the all-inclusive program. This allowed us to eat on the run in the two buffet restaurants or take our time dining at the theme ( Argentine, marisco, or Italian ) restaurants. All of the staff were polite, attentive and respectful. You need 24 hour notice at theme restaurants. Golf, spa and tennis was also available for an extra fee. The security force, both in- house and in the city were highly visable. I can't wait to return next year.

Great hotel, a little bit out of the way

  • Jimmy Rimmy
  • Sep 19, 2011
I have stayed in Mazatlan many times, but this was the first time at Torres Mazatlan. I normally stay in the golden zone, so this hotel was a lot further north than I am used to. There are no restaurants, supermarkets, bars or clubs within walking distance, so unless you rent a car, you will have to pay excessively high taxi fares to get around. Unless of course you take the bus, but be warned the service is very sporadic in this part of Mazatlan. Having said all that, the hotel was great and they have everything that you could need within the resort. They have a little supermarket and a restaurant, so if you are content with what they have to offer on the menu, you would never have to leave. The rooms were fantastic, we had a 2 bedroom family condo and it was huge. It had a full kitchen and the living area and balcony were huge. The beach was a little rocky so it was difficult to walk into the sea without hurting your feet on the rocks, however a short walk north and the sand into the sea became smooth and flat. The pool was heated and you could right in without cringing, The waiter service around the pool could be better, we were always waiting for the guy to return to take repeat orders for drinks. All in all, it is a good hotel, the staff are friendly and we had no complaints. A little bit off the beaten track, but I would stay there again.

It was perfect.

Our stay at the Torres could not have been more perfect. It is a timeshare hotel, and we were not members, but we were not pushed to attend a sales meeting or pressured in anyway. Torres has the old world ambiance of "real" Mexico in the midst of Mazatlan's highrise modernity. Having a full suite (kitchen, livingroom, and separate bath) was a wonderful luxury at an incredibly affordable price. The mattress was perfect, and we slept like babies. Our room overlooked the pool and the ocean - all rooms at the Torres overlook the ocean. Sitting on our balcony, listening to the surf, and watching the golden sun being swallowed by the sea each evening was spectacular. The hotel and restaurant staff were wonderful (they learned our names the first day and never failed to greet us by name), and the restaurant was excellent - though the Mexican food selections were a bit "Americanized" with gouda cheese. The hotel exchanged our money at a great rate and helped us with all our vacation needs. The zipline adventure and tour of a tequilla factory (all-you-can-drink shots of the smoothest tequilla you will ever taste) is not to be missed. Stepping from the edge of the pool onto a pristine uncrowed white beach (shells galore just a short walk north!) and being away from town was a bonus, as was being north of town. There is excellent air-conditioned bus service every few minutes that goes directly to the golden zone, the market, and the center of old town - and of course a (more expensive) taxi is always waiting. We rented a car for two days (arranged for by the hotel staff) to explore the surrounding countryside and had delightful visits to small minning towns in the mountains. (Be careful of the speed bumps in all the small towns - they are not marked and quite a shock to hit at higher speeds!) At all times we felt safe and well taken care of by the the beautiful Mexican people. This is a vacation we would do again!

The 3 bedroom 3 bathroom with full kitchen and huge balcony was very roomy and quite nice. The location was quiet except for the construction across the marina. Had to drive or call a cab to anywhere you wanted to go such as beaches or restaurants. They did provide a shuttle if you needed it. Also gave us free transportation back to airport which was nice.

Great hotel, one of my favorites. Close to everything, but far enough to not get the noise from the golden zone on the weekends. The ocean view is fantastic, sunsets on the beach are the best. Due to the low occupancy or low interest they canceled the show they have once a week (which we enjoyed). Tile floors are loud with foot traffic wearing anything except tennis shoes. They do charge an extra $30.00 a night for guests (thought it was double occupancy) and $20 a day for visitors (had friends/family from town visit). Never had to pay that at other hotels in Mexico. Christy's across the street and Pauncho's down the street, have excellent food and at a very good price.

We have been going to the Hotel Playa Mazatlan for 17 years, We really love the Hotel and their friendly staff. The beach in front of the Hotel Playa Mazatlan is the best in all of Mazatlan. The Hotel, which dates back to the 1950's does need some upgrading. Times have changed and the Hotel has stayed the same. It is time to upgrade their amenities. I still highly recommend this Hotel for their location and friendly staff.

This vacation was beyond fabulous. The Pasada Freeman hotel had the best service and the friendliest staff anyone could ever ask for. Everyone was making our stay the best that it could have been. The breakfast bufffet in the morning is the most enjoyable, with the chef there serving different dishes every day, that had a gorgeous presentation. The hotel is not over crowded and the staff is very personable. Happy hour is fun and the drinks and prices are very reasonable. I wish I could go back there again tomorrow. Thank You..

Booked on line, room was suppose to be the deluxe room.Needless to say got to hotel - not the deluxe room as shown on the site ( I had printed off the pictures) we booked our vacation based on the deluxe room photos.Went to front desk with the [...] pictures and advised the guy this was not what we were expecting. His reply was more or less no way, you got the room you booked and paid for....these pictures are a suite. [...]Restaurant staff and bell boys great.

The accommodations were less than satisfactory: the bathroom sink was installed incorrectly, and not only could you not get your hands under the water (the water fell right against the basin), but the water then leaked all over the floor because it missed the sink. The shower also leaked all over the floor due to an "artistic" gap at the bottom where the glass didn't seal in all the water. Food was poor at the hotel restuarant. The lobster bisque, I am sure (no exaggeration) was made from Bisquick batter. The food was awful (sushi and shrimp and the Bisquick soup), and I paid $40 to eat two bites and no more. They would not refund our money for this horrible meal. Night 2, I decided to ask the front desk for a new room. The only offer they could give us was a room with the window broken out of it, which we declined. By night 3, the front desk has to bring us a plunger because our toilet no longer flushes. Refund or not, I decided to leave this hotel with 3 additional nights already pre-paid for, and book a new reservation somewhere else.

Secluded Beachfront Resort

Secluded beachfront resort about 45 minutes away from the main city. Very few guests staying at the resort. Close to airport. Staff was very accommodating and spoke excellent English. Cons include limited dining choices (only one restaurant on the property open during the day) and lack of activities (no snorkeling or tours available) and distance away from city.
