This is low season for tourist, So I had the big pool to myself for about 3 days. Service at the hotel is Great. Only problem was one night the A/C didn't cool the room down, but the problem was fixed the next day

We have vacationed in Mexico, seven times and five of those were in Ixtapa or Zihua. This was our first time at the Emporio. All in all, we feel the Emporio was a great value for the money. Our room, the restaurant on site, the lobby and pool area were all extremely clean. The ocean view from our room was fantastic. The only disappointing thing about the hotel facility was the lack of consistent hot water. It was hit and miss whether we had a warm shower or not. Also, the Emporio is definitely a family hotel. We are not anti-kids, it's just that we heard pretty constant screaming (in a fun way) from the pool area. The swim-up bar was a favorite hang out of the children. To solve it, we just avoided the pool. We typically travel from about Dec 15th until Jan 1st, so we are used to children being around--it just seemed like a lot more at the Emporio than we encountered at other hotels. If we traveled with children, the Emporio would be a good choice for us.

The one big complaint I have is that they advertise having wireless internet available, and they don't. I am not sure what the issue was but we asked the staff several times how to access their wifi and they never gave us a straight answer. We had to mooch off a neighboring hotel's signal (and that was by instruction of one of the hotel staff!).
Lots of families with little kids stay at this hotel. It was not the most romantic hotel for a couple to stay in on their honeymoon, but their rooms were clean and the staff was friendly.
The restaurant was okay. The menu was not very diverse, so after a night or two you have to go out in the town to find dinner because you are just so bored with the menu. I thought the restaurant was a bit over priced for the quality of the food.

The staff were helpful at all times - they changed our room to another, better room when we were appalled at the noise level coming from the air conditioning units outside (they never change their decibel level);otherwise we would not have been able to open our balcony door. The food was good, but we had to buy bottled water for our room (go out to the market not the hotel shop)as you only get the first day's allotment in the frig and that's all.

Un hotel muy comodo, donde el lujo no es una de sus caracterizticas principales, pero si esta suficientemente funcional y en relacion con su bajo precio, creo que cumple totalmente con las espectativas de quienes lo visitan.
Hay actividades todo el dia que te hacen disfrutar aun mas de las vacaciones en familia.
En los alimentos posiblemente en otros hoteles haya mas variedad, pero en este lo que preparan esta sabroso y eso si muy limpio.
Pienso que es un hotel muy recomendable para quienes no podemos pagar cantidades exsorbitantes para disfrutar de un All Inclusive.

hotel was fine with a great view and friendly people. the maid, [...], was extra special at making my roomfeel comfortable with animals made from linens and extra flowers on her shifts. somestimes the noise level was a bit high and too much.didn't use the resturant, but front desk was nice at answering questions and very good at using english.

The hotel is great wiht only one downfall (the food).
We had an spotless room, everything superb since the check in. We had a family vacations there and the room es big enough for our 4 person´s family.
The only thing to improve is the food.

What a great family resort. Wish that the at least one of the restaurants were open 24 hours, but other than that. It was great!

We did not buy all inclusive package

After reading some reviews we did not buy all inclusive package and we were happy with this choise. There are many place in close vicinity to have a breakfast or lunch, and few nights we went to Zihuatanejo for dinner. This hotel has a good location, magnificent ocean view, nice pool area. During our visit the waves were big at the break for just normal swimming, but you can do body/boogy boarding. The beach is big and not crowded, but it is not easy to find a space under umbrella, because people try to reserve the shade from early in the morning and keep it through the day.

electricity turned off for a few hours the first two days there, food was ok, had to spray for ants the first day, toilet needed fixing, elevators weren't running all the time, only one some days, service was great though

This was our second visit to the hotel. We were there in November with 2 other couples. The food is excellent at the resort and the rooms are amazing.
The hotel is posted on the site as adults-only, but there were families with children at the hotel for this visit. We thought we were paying for adults-only and were disappointed. Prices in Mexico are at an all time high. Over $150 for two to dine.

My husband and I stayed at Capella Ixtapa from Dec. 26th, 2010 through Jan. 2nd, 2011. We travel frequently and are very blessed to afford a high level of luxury. This resort truly deserves its 5-star rating in every way. It was our favorite trip so far, which is saying a lot. The room was fabulous, the service was impeccable, and there was no request the staff would not attempt to accommodate.
We are already talking about when we can go again!

We just got back from 10 days in Paradise. The hotel just recently went all-inclusive so they are still working out a few kinks but we overall had a great time and would go back again. If you go and don't like super hard beds, you can ask for an extra (or 2) egg crate pads to be added. The beach is clean and beautiful and it's a great location for dining, clubs, shopping, etc. Massages on the beach are great and cheap! 2 1-hour massages for 350 pesos, bargain! And if you like your cocktails, they have top shelf alcohol so drink up!

The activities were good and the staff was friendly. However, they try to sell you time share or activities right when you check into the hotel. The rooms resemble the pictures, but they turn off the a/c when the rooms are not in use which causes a musky/moldy smell that takes several days to airout or you get use to it. We had to ask hosekeeping not to turn off the a/c. The food was excellent. :-)

we had a great week, but most of it was not on the Hotel site.
we had only 3 supper at the hotel, and the food was correct but nothing spectacular.
the personel is very friendly, and they try to help you with any request.
a down side was that no hotel rules are respected by the guest. (by the pool, a big sign with no t-shirt, no food and no inflated toys. every day i saw all of those rules being broken and no one was their to tell them to not swim in jeans bermuda and underware, or not to eat hod-dogs ect ect.

This was our third time to the Barcelo Ixtapa-Zihuatenjeo. We keep coming back because of the excellent service from a very friendly and hospitable staff. We always reserve an ocean front room so we can hear the fantastic ocean waves at night. This year we had the Club Premium package which made our stay even more special. The Spanish Coffee at Don Quijotes is always an impressive show and great taste! The ocean and pool are the warmest we have found in Mexico. Ixtapa is not known for its night life which makes for a relaxing quiet vacation for us. And the nightly shows at the Barcelo are excellent, colourful and well presented.

Perfect spring break with young adults

Perfect spring break vacation. We took our two college aged students with us. The hotel was in a perfect location. It was in walking distance from downtown where there is plenty of shopping and restaurants and a lot of hotels on the beach. I recommend Jacks restaurant it was fantastic.
It was nice to come back to a quiet hotel to rest and swim with hardly anyone there. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Ixtapa was a clean little town. Shopowners were always cleaning or trimming the landscapes.
One day we went to the Ixtapa Island, it was ok. Lots of restaurants there, but the best thing there is to snorkel or play other water sports. The entry to the island is a natural crocodile pond. That was worth the trip to the island. They were huge.
Also, our kids did the zip line. They enjoyed it, but said you really have to be in great shape to do this challenge.
We also met a family who lives there and spent the day at the ocean with them. We had true mexican food and the mother was an artist and the daughter a surfer. It was a great day. They only thing I can say is that we wished we could have stayed a few more days.

GOOD TRIP.....BUT.....

The hotel itself was nice, pool area, beach were all wonderful. The food was good at breakfast and lunch, however the dinner buffet was just okay. No waitstaff around the pool, which is strange. Entertainment was fair. The rooms do not have safes or fridges, again this was strange for us. I left my rings in my room and my diamond wedding ring was stole, I reported it to hotel, they did an "investigation", but of course nothing came up, they did not even apoligize to me, for this reason I would never stay here again.

First time we ever enjoyed just relaxing. We did not feel the need to do anything special. Daily sitting by the pool enjoying the adult beverages that came with the all-inclusive. Best professional staff we ever encountered.

Located to 15 minutes to the International Airport of Zihuatanejo and to a street to the Market Crafts; it has the best location that allows him to have everything within their reach. 45 Completely equipped suites that will make you to sit down like in their house, with all the comfort and privacy that can have from a couple until one family gives but he gives 6 members, with beautiful view he gives our beautiful gardens. You found everything for their rest and comfort that you invited it to return. Puerta del Mar it offers him the whole security, hospitality and necessary services so that you stay.

The hotel is as beautiful as the pictures. Food and presentation were 5 star. Great staff that inter-acted with everyone and went above and beyond to accommodate us. This was our 1st all-inclusive and 1st Club Med. All of the activities were included at no extra charge. Kayaking, sailing, tennis, trapeze and excercise classes. It was our 50th Anniversary and there were 8 other family members that were with us ranging in age from 18 to 75. No one was ready to go home.

The club had just opend after the swean flu scare, only five families in the villeage. The local help was not very helpful but the international GO team was very nice and fun. The kids have a great time and the food was excellent. No room service! and house keeping is not too great. Take lots and lots of sunscreen!
