This was our 4th trip to the Occidental Grand. Once again the O G did not disappoint. The service was friendly and helpful. Food was good and plentiful. Room was cleaned every day and very comfortable. The beautiful beach and pool area will keep us coming back to the Occidental Grand for years to come!

Nice beach and great place to stay for divers

Great beach. Best dive shop and quick and easy to get to reefs for diving Probably best beach on the island and this is what matters most to us.Pool was nothing spectacular. The buffet was not so great compared to many other all inclusives we have been to. Not best resort for kids here as not a lot of food variety/kid friendly food choices as other resorts. No water park etc. for kids. Mediterranean restraunt. had best steak ever had at a resort like this. Great dinner at royal club. Pizza really good at pizza restraunt. Drinks pretty good, not too watered down and lots premium brands. Nice that had servers to bring drinks to beach. Hard to get beach chair as All reserved by8:00am. Shows were pretty good but also difficult to get a seat unless sat down early. Far from town if that matters to you. Shops in town cater to cruise ships and close down when the ships leave. No desire to go shopping ect with all the cruisers in town. The biggest complaint I had was that checking in took forever. They kept telling us "5 more minutes" . Our room was not ready until 4:30. We later learned that the hotel was overbooked and they were sending some guests to the iberostar next door as they tried to do this to some in our group. Overall however this resort was ok. Definitely not the best AI I've been to but if the beach and dive shop/proximity to dive reefs matters most this is the best place in Cozumel to stay.

This is the fourth time since May 2011 that I have stayed at this hotel. I was there May, August, November 2011 and February 2012.
The hotel is nice and clean, the staff friendly and helpful, and the restaurant serves good food for a reasonable price. The breakfast buffet is particularly good.
I travel with my father as we are both scuba divers and we have a suite with a kitchen. Although we often eat out, the kitchen is very nice for storing water, drinks, and making hot tea at night if you wish.

Almost Perfection

Thresia
- Apr 29, 2012
Awesome resort; everything is close to perfect; except for the front desk staff (which gets a zero star from myself).
I travel a great deal; and the staff at this resort definitely gets 5 stars from me. From the restaurants in the La Veranda to the Ala Carte Staff; all bartenders are great; and the grounds and pool keepers work incredibly hard to keep the entire place immaculate.
Food is good in the buffet for breakfast; but dinner needs a lot of improvement. Dinners are excellent at both the Ala Carte restaurants. Did not eat lunch at the resort during my week stay.
Housekeeping was a little late cleaning every day; especially when we were out of the room every day at 7am; and room not cleaned till 3pm; and one day they called and could not make it.
Front desk staff is rude; un-cooperative and the most unfriendly staff I have ever seen at a resort. Too bad, as they left a very bad image of what had been an incredible vacation.

Beautiful Resort
- Michelle Piper
- Apr 23, 2012
We came here for five days for a girls getaway. Beautiful hotel, amazing view, very clean. Food was actually quite good. We had to eat in the main dining "buffet" hall because reservations at the speciality restaurants were hard to come by. The drinks were weak at times, but not too hard to ask for a double. :) The pools were wonderful, there was plenty of room for everyone. Could have probably done without the drunk spring break teenagers though. Now for the cons: People literally go out at 7am and throw their beach towels on the lounge chairs and then come back hours later. So, if you actually want a chair you have to get up early. Also, out by the beach area there was this god awful stench like sewer. And for the last worst con of all.. We left money and diamond earrings in our room and unfortunately they were stolen during our stay. Obviously, we cannot prove anything, but they were in the room and we were the only ones in the room, so you make the determination. Just a warning. We would still stay again, but use a safe next time.

Relaxing Hotel Stay

This hotel has new ownership and did a great job remodeling and upgrading the place. I like it because it is small (40 rooms) and nice and quiet (no spring break kids partying all night). All rooms are ocean view and they have a small pool. They had a band there a couple of times during my stay. The staff is very friendly and the rooms are very clean. We didn't eat dinner there, so I can't comment on the dinner food but the breakfast was good. For the value, I thought this was a very good place to stay.

A Mermaid
- May 7, 2012
This hotel is a $20 round trip taxi ride from downtown, and it is rather isolated. there is one bar/grill that you can walk to. The meal hours were very good, and the food selection was adequate. Bring your own large, insulated, water bottle. We would have liked cookies or ice cream for dessert and non-spicy foods, lunch meat or peanut butter sandwiches at lunch would have been nice for the kids. Low sugar cereal (i.e. plain corn flakes or cheerios) in the morning could be added. It was very easy to get bar service. We got drinks delivered to our hammocks.
There is not much entertainment on site. However, there were two guys wearing only sombreros in the ocean side pool, on our last day of our trip. I think they had too much tequila.

Loved Our Stay at Suites Colonial
-
bsgro
- Dec 29, 2011
About my ratings:
Amenities 3, because it's a basic no frills place. AC worked well.
Location 4, right ont the square. Easy access to restaurants and cabs. Great for our group with people going i different directions. Some might prefer to stay on a beach.
Cleanliness 5 Wish my floors at home shined as much!
Comfort 4 My ideal room would have more of a lounging area
Staff 5 everyone was helpful and frienldly
Value 5 can't be beat, especially considering the huge breakfast. We paid $634 pp for a flight from Akron to Cancun and 7 nights hotel.
Stayed at Suites Colonial for one week over Christmas with my family of eight (spilt between 4 rooms). It was an ideal budget choice. Easy walking access to shops and restaurants. Walked to breakfast at Casa Mexicana each day and then grabbed acab right outside Casa Mexicana to our beach of choice.
About the hotel: rooms were plain, but clean. Mattresses were new. My husband and I stayed in a suite. Bedroom with two beds. Bathroom. Kitchen had fridge, stove top, sink, plates, glasses, silverware and a few pots. Didn't really look cause we only used the fridge. Sitting room had table with four chairs, two seat sofa, and a folding bed.
Asked for rooms away from the bar. We were put in 201.Rest of the family was right below us in rooms 104, 105, and 106. Bar noise never bothered us. We brought earplugs, but never used them.
Very nice breakfast at Casa Mexicana included. Standards fruit, yogurt, pastry, cereal. Different hot dishes each day, plus cook to order eggs and waffles.
Enjoyed access to Wifi. I used it from my room.
This was our third trip to Cozumel. Previous trips we've stayed at Suites Bahia and Casa Mexicana. I'd stay at any of them again.
A word of caution: the tile hallways, floors, and stairs are very slippery when wet. Pack shoes with good traction.

DO NOT stay here if you're doing the Ironman
-
Ironman Keith
- Dec 1, 2011
Last time I stayed in Cozumel for the Ironman, I stayed at an all inclusive, which was nice, but I tended to stay there and didn't get out and enjoy as much of the local fare as I'd liked, which is why I decided to go with the Suites Colonial this year.
The place is adorable. The rooms are very clean and are more than adequate for $48 a night.
There is fresh coffee in the lobby every morning and the breakfast provided by their sister hotel is just a quick five minute walk and is very good.
There are a few barkers from the shops close by that you have to deal with when you leave/arrive, but you have to deal with that pretty much anywhere in Cozumel, so it's not that big of a deal.
My two main complaints:
1) No parking! I rented a scooter and while I could park it in the lobby overnight, I couldn't park there during the day, so I had to park it in a garage two blocks away. Not a huge deal, but something to consider if you're renting a vehicle.
2) The live music from the bar next door on Fri/Sat nights. Yes, the a/c somewhat drowns them out, but you can still hear them and they play until the wee hours of the morning.
I normally wouldn't care, but I had to get up at 4am for an Ironman race on Sunday and the band played until 3am Sunday morning, which did NOT make for a good night's rest.
My overall opinion? Great place to stay on the cheap if you just want a basic hotel and are easy going. If you like fancy schmancy or are doing the Ironman, go somewhere else.

Room -oversized, balcony, clean, great view of pier and ocean, cool sunsets. Beach - lots of fish, good snorkel, bring watershoes. Ironshore with tidal pools, iguanas, birds. Food - fresh tortillas, great breakfast, could always find something to eat. Beautiful beachside view. Pools are fine, drinks are fine, 5 minutes from town. Locally owned. Recommend getting stocked mini-fridge, well worth it. Clean and maintained. Rented a taxi but we could have stayed at the resort all the time, mini-golf, tennis, beach walking, watersports. Hard working friendly people. No safety concerns. Not a mega resort did not want one. We chose to eat at the buffet, many did the al acarte so I assume it was good. No complaints. Tip staff they more than deserve it.

Perfect location for the budget traveler!

Suites Bahia is the perfect location for a budget traveler. Extremely close to all the restaurants and bars towntown and within walking distance of almost everything you could ask for.
I've been staying at Suites Bahia close to 8 years now. The location, convenience and breakfast are a hard combination to beat.
It's a simple but very clean and well kept hotel. If you're expecting 5 star amenities you're in the wrong location. The rooms are always clean and staff is very helpful and friendly.
One suggestion I do have is to always try to opt for room with a balcony. These rooms will have much more natural light and if you're diving you can leave your gear out to dry. The kitchenette with refrigerator is also great. I always stop at the supermarket and buy water, beer and coldcuts for sandwiches.
Overall, I love staying at Suites Bahia. For the price, location, convenience and amenities offered it can't be beat. I dont do the all-inclusive thing as I like going to all the restaurants that Cozumel has to offer so it's perfect for me.

Couldn't Be Better

World Traveler Ron

This is my first hotel review, but I am compelled to write it. Before we booked, we read many glowing reviews, and many negative reviews. Most negative reviews were about the location not having a beach, and the second was complaints about the food. We loved the location, had sand areas for laying out by the water or pool, but as a bonus had great snorkeling! Right on the edge of downtown for great shopping, and only 12 minute walk to the ferry to Playa Del Carmen. Saw many fish, eagle rays, puffer fish, etc right in the hotel private snorkeling area. Only 15 minute cab ride from the airport. As for the food, it was fantastic. Our friends that we met their agreed, every night we would go to dinner, we would say wow, that was excellent. The next night would be just as good, or better. Talked to the Exec Chef, who change the kitchen and menus about 4 months ago. He had four points 1) Cleanliness 2) Fresh Ingredients 3) Great Taste 4) What the guests want. Our experience was he really did a great job doing all four points. The grilled Grouper was amazing at the pool side grill, as were the steaks and ALL other foods. The Staff was amazingly friendly and helpful. Lastly, the 1500 resort credits were easy to use for excursions to Dophinius next door to swim with the Dolphins, Diving, Spa massages, excursion to Chankanaab, and even renting a jeep to go around the island. Book this resort and you won't be sorry. I've traveled all over the world and stayed at excellent resorts such as Four Seasons, etc, and this was my best experience at a resort yet.

This is a wonderful hotel, service was great and everyone was very friendly. Breakfast and food was good. We have been coming to Cozumel for over 25 years and almost always stay at this hotel. This location is ideal, without a car or with a car, you can walk to some good restaurants and downtown shopping. The only comment we have is- they need new lounge chairs at the beach.

This was a great place to relax for a few days. We were most impressed with the kindness of the staff, you were all great! The facilities and food were also great. The weekend nights were a bit rowdy but nothing a pair of earplugs couldn't fix. It is very hard to receive a five star raking from me, as it represents perfect. Aura was very close but not quite there. Hopefully they listen to the very minor criticisms I left with them which I won't list here. Overall I'd definitely recommend this resort. I hope to be back someday and to leave the five star ranking next time.

This is the place you want to stay if you'd like to be a little off the beaten path, away from the hordes of cruise ship visitors in town who expect only English to be spoken and to pay US dollars for their margaritas. It is still close enough to be a cheap cab ride or nice walk to other restaurants/shopping. All the staff at Casa del Mar (front desk, housekeeping, restaurant, diving) are EXTREMELY friendly and helpful. The rooms were ok, a bit dated, but AC was cold and you're not spending too much time inside anyway. The pool area is nice, great for sunbathing, and has a fun swim up bar. Most of the other guests I met had been coming to Casa del Mar for sun and diving for years. Didn't take the all-inclusive dining option as it was nice to eat elsewhere for some meals.

All inclusive - Affordable prices. Be welcomed. At the all-inclusive Sabor Cozumel Resort and Spa - - All Inclusive everyone has the perfect place. It could be because we are the largest beach front resort hotel on the island of Cozumel, Mexico. But we think its more about the service and the fun we serve up. Best of all, they are all included. Kayak after breakfast, play tennis or try your hand at wind surfing. There is no better place to do it than here in Cozumel Mexico. With the glistening Caribbean right at your door, suddenly the world is your oyster. Sailing, snorkeling, and live entertainment. It seems you can have it all. We dont like to brag, but the Sabor Cozumel Resort and Spa has over 2,000 feet of beach front. And yes, its the largest beach for any one resort hotel on the island. Sometimes more is more. And maybe the best part, everything is included. Meals. Drinks. Sailing. Its all a yes. Think of it this way: if you are the motor its free. Your bracelet means it could not be easier. Caribbean-inspired guestroom with private outside space to unwind. With three pools on site, you are never far from a refreshing good time. Our Water Sports Center is fun central for any equipment you would like to take out.Everyone can feel good knowing we have a licensed doctor on call during daylight hours. If a Coconut and Aloe Vera Body Polish is your idea of utter bliss, book one at our Islander Spa, for a small up charge.Four restaurants and, five bars means you will always be satisfied. The restaurant La Isla is our most popular place for a la carte breakfast, lunch and dinner. With its perfect mix of casual ambience and tasty cuisine, for dinner, enjoy the Mexican Cuisine with a la carte service. When you feel like you just cannot tear yourself away from your comfortable room or private terrace, our guests may have something tasty delivered. The scuba diving is amazing here. You might just see the elusive sea horse but certainly you will encounter lots colorful sea life along the Great Mayan Reef. In fact, its the second largest reef in the world. Enjoy these creatures from the comfort of a glass bottom boat or even from a submarine. Tour the jungle on horseback, ATV or in a jeep. The island is dotted with Mayan Ruins and they truly are a must see. We also offer spectacular golf, deep-sea fishing and even stingray encounters. Its nice to know were only 10 miles from the Cozumel International Airport and only just 30 minutes to the Yucatan Peninsula by ferry. Dont forget everyone must have a passport for international travel to Mexico. A credit card or deposit is required upon check in.

My wife and I stayed one week here and the staff was very helpful. They always tried to answer any questions we had and made sure we were comfortable. The room was quite good for the money and the location is great, if you want to be in the city.

Nice hotel in great proximity to dock, bars, restaurants and shops

Nice hotel in good proximity to boat dock, shops and restaurants. Staff told us all we needed to know about the area and where to hire bikes, cars etc.
Rooms were large with nice finishing touches. Needs more lighting as very dark once curtains closed. Also has a tiny safe which you pay a deposit for. Handy for passports but not big enough for much more.
Breakfast was included but poor. Coffee, juice and pastries with jam. This is brought to your room at your chosen time. Nice touch but could be a lot better.
Purified water available all the time to refill bottles.

The beach was very nice, clean, no rocks. There were alot of young children under 10. the nightly entertainment could use alot of improvement and there was always a line for drinks and the buffets another bartender and quicker seating for the buffet would solve these issues. Snorkleing in front of the resort not very exciting

Description
The Blue Angel Resort is a unique, fun destination for you next Cozumel vacation. The Blue Angel Resort itself consists of Hotel, Restaurant and of course, the famous Blue Angel Dive Shop that provides the best Cozumel diving around. The hotel is one of the few hotels on the island that is situated directly on the water and not across the street or further. Do you want an ocean view from your private balcony? Good, because all the rooms are ocean view rooms and all of the rooms have private balconies! Blue Angel Resort is all about de-stressing from your usual busy routine. Do you long for a holiday where you could just slow down and breathe and you didn't have to feel guilty about it? Come see the hotel, they want you to visit them! Take advantage of their many dive packages and enjoy the convenience of a fast dive boat that is just a stone's throw away from your room. Do you like to dine alfresco right over the water and not have to take out a second mortgage to do that? Do you think you would enjoy a massage by the water that leaves you weak in the knees because you are so incredibly relaxed? Then come see them for all this things. The hotel wants you to visit them. Would you like to enjoy the warmth of the sun on your face without a noisy crowd invading the last bit of your personal space? If yes, then Blue Angel Resort wants you! If you are the type of person who enjoys the simple things in life, things like enjoying turquoise water, looking forward to your next, great 2 tank dive or witnessing the miracle that is the Caribbean sunset and laughing at the resident pelicans catching their dinner 20 feet from you, then yes, you are Blue Angels type of person. If you are comfortable with owners, staff and other guests greeting you with a smile in the morning and calling you by your first name, then please, come see the hotel Wants you to stay with them!! The coolest thing about Blue Angel Cozumel is the people that come to visit. Basically...in the fewest words... they get it. Blue Angel is a smaller Cozumel vacation resort. Why is this important? The hotel is like a family. This means that if you are on the hotel dive boat trips as part of one or their dive packages; the same hilarious guys that you dove with this morning might be having a drink in the lobby later on. The friendly people that you spoke to in the restaurant last night may be lounging by the pool today...if you visit them, take a chance and say hello...maybe even start a conversation. You might gain some new friends. high quality people and many of the guests return over and over again to connect again with their Blue Angel family. The people that visit Blue Angel mostly seem to be the type of people that can sit back and just let things happen around them, enjoying every minute of it. Cozumel diving is fantastic and diversified. There are so many different reefs and you don't have to be at a professional, technical diver to enjoy many of them. But if you have been part of the diving community for a while, they challenge you. There is an abundance of marine life in the water park and surrounding areas and protect the love of the "other world". To see the excitement and joy on people's faces when they come back from their dive trips is inspirational. The hotel also provides Dry cleaning, Library, Lobby and Reception services.

Fabulous little gem on the island!
- RobinLKJ
- Nov 15, 2011
After several visits to the island, and stays at AI's, we had seen this little place and even stopped in for lunch/drinks and a hotel tour on one occasion. I knew that we had to come back on our next visit.
The view can't be beat! And different from other hotels "in town" your view here isn't obscured by a cruise ship, its all sunset and beautiful water! Everything has this view, the rooms, the lobby, the cafe, and the pool. Its close enough to town but far enough out not to be in the middle of things.
The cafe is GREAT! We did dinner at a variety of places but breakfast/lunch/snacks/drinks here and all was good. Service was also GREAT! Be sure to try the mango margarita :)
Although located on the main road, its surprisingly very quiet at night. Rooms are minimal, but very comfortable. Best beds I've found in Mexico! Mini-fridges in rooms came in handy. The only drawback would be the walk-up to the upper floors. Toting suitcases and dive gear up four flights was rough, but well worth the effort.
The waterfront is perfect for shore diving and there are LOTS of fish & corals right there. Its next to the sting ray enclosure so thats fun from below too!
Dive shop on site with very nice staff and instructor. The pool, although small, is right on the waterfront and a gathering place for some of the local ex-pats. Every bit as charming as the rest of the place!
Owner and all staff members couldn't be any nicer or more accommodating. Once you visit here, you'll feel like family and consider it home away from home.

Good value

We visited “Sabor Cozumel Resort and Spa - Adults Only” on May 17th for 4 nights.
We stayed in Exclusive club. It was a little bit empty – only several couples stayed at the same time.
The hotel is not new and a little bit running down but they are trying to do the best. Every morning they were cleaning the hotel’s pool.
The weather was not very good during our staying – this is rainfall season so every day we had 3 hours cats and dogs raining from about 9 am to 12 pm.
There is a very good service in an airport – you can take the shuttle to the hotel only for $12 per person.
In the hotel they have very interesting pre-Hispanic show. I’ve never seen something like this even during my saying in Cancun.
The Mexican night was ok – nothing special – it was something I’ve already seen before in Mexico.
The best part was the snorkeling – we did 3 hours snorkeling trip to the reef for $40 per person but actually you don’t need to go anywhere because there are several very good spots in front of the hotel.

Relaxing with some issues

Beez and Geez
- May 20, 2012
Overall the experience was fun, food very good, bar and wait staff excellent, they work hard. We did upgrade to Exclusive, we had the lazy river outside our door that was not clean. Our room had no water when we arrived and when we did get water it was brown and we had small bugs all over the bathroom..the remedy was to hand us a can of bug spray to kill the bugs ourselves. During our stay one of the pool bars was closed most days and on a few occasions if you did not make a reservation for dinner and the buffet restaurant was closed you had to walk a distance for dinner. We would not stay again, there were ten of us.

1/2 block from ferry to Playa del Carmen.
1 block from town square.
70 pesos cab ride to the airport.
Museum & Municipal Market within 1/2 mile each direction. I found the food court @ the market to be a good value. At 1 booth there must have been about 20 different kinds of taco fillings, about 10p/taco. (Make sure you had your shots!) You can buy a beer in the store down the street & drink it there...& try the Yucatan Pork chops for 55 pesos. ($5) I love the orange marinade.

Staff here are the best didn't run into ONE person that didn't greet us and not just first time they see you but ALL the time. Beds are not so good but I understand why they can't really have the plush pillow tops as it's so humid there they would capture moisture and cause mold. That's as well why no carpet...The Place is so so clean, someone is always cleaning. Beach was ok but there is a big different in the water from one side of the pier to the other, but it seems after it rain to be clear and not so murky. Food was good get reservations every night at the nice spot it's the best. Buffet was ok and there is a great selection. Rating all of the place from one to ten I would give it a 8. We had a great time in Cozumel............

The hotel itself is a 3.5 star, but its all the other things that make it a 5 star. The hotel is very small so you never wait for anything and very personalised service. The pool is heated and an actual hot hot tub were nice after swimming in the ocean. We were there for seven days and they had pool side bands two nights. The restaurant food is good. Although you are so close to town to go out for dinner, where your options are endless. We had a 1 bedroom suite which had a full kitchen. The room itself is 3.5 star, but feels very clean. The kitchen is nice to be able to brew your own coffee and make up some sandwiches. We had two patios, one off of the main room and one off of the bedroom. This was so nice to be able to open up the doors at night and listen to the waves. When you are lying in bed or sitting on your patio all you see is sky and ocean. Its like being on a cruise ship sitting on your patio when your doing your at sea day. If your looking for quiet and relaxing, with personalised service this is the place for you.
