The first night we checked in room 1004,it's cute, once out on the patio, look right wow there is the carribean....feels like it's in your backyard although no oceanview inside the room
However at night the noise makes sleeping impossible. Working stuff walking talking arranaging dishes right out of our door. The room is open to the pool and dining area and it's first floor.

Overall, a great hotel with impecable facilities, respectful and very helpful staff, and great location. The gift shop has all necessary things. The rooms are comfortable, with good amount of furniture, but the pillows and bed are extremely soft. The beach is beautiful and very clean, the waiters are quick and attentive, the hotel's beach area is very safe and the food served at beah and pool is delicious and reasonably priced. The hotel's restaurants are quite good, with the exception of the breakfast buffet, which is extremely expensive for the quality of the food; Mikado restaurant is phenomenal (cook's show and food) and Champions is good enough.

Great hotel for the price! The only downside is that when it rains the hotel can be a bit leaky. Our hotel floor would get wet just a tad bit. Just throw down extra towels from room service and your good. another downside was the smell of kitchen blowing into our room from the outside. They may need to change where they pump out the kitchen exhaust. But overall beautiful hotel and great staff. The photos don't lie. the food at the buffet was really good, and the beach front is amazing. sucks they don't serve drinks beach side, you have to walk up the steps and go pool side.

My husband, my one year old son and I stayed here from May 8th-13th. We had an ocean view room and did the all inclusive program, which we loved. Yes. There are things that are not included and it wasn't a big deal. Our elevator was not working in building 1, which wouldn't have been a big deal if we didn't have to haul our stroller up and down 4 flights of stairs. My husband suggested I request a different room, which I did. They upgraded us to a Junior Suite in building 4. It had two queen beds instead of the king bed but was so much bigger and closer to all of our other family that was traveling with us. We moved the beds together and they weren't perfectly matched up. The next day, the maid moved the beds together & made it one big perfect bed and moved the table to the side for us and kept it that way for our entire stay. One couple in our group had a one bedroom lagoon view and it was huge and very nice with 2 baths, a large wrap around balcony & had a nice view of the lagoon. The ice machine near our new room was out of order. I was walking back to my room near the Quetzal buffet and asked a random employee if she could tell me where the nearest ice machine was and she asked me for my room number. 10 minutes later, I had ice delivered to me! One other issue - the little ants. We brought formula for our little one and on the 5th day I woke up to our formula with little ants in it! I should have kept the container in a plastic bag. I never saw any ants until then. I called to ask for help because I needed to feed the little guy. They got us a brand new container of our formula by lunch time! Yes. some things were not perfect but they went out of there way to make it right. I was very happy. It is another country and those things could happen in the U.S. too! Our whole group, which included a few vegetarians, loved the food. It was by far the best all inclusive food we've had - anywhere! To clear up any confusion - WI-FI IS included with the all inclusive package and I worked on my IPhone from the Bali bed by the pool or surfed the internet in my room and it worked pretty well. We did rent a Bali bed daily - $25 - nice to have a home base for our large group. The servers came by as much as we wanted (we tipped a decent amount). We ate at Tempo - it was very good but I couldn't deal with the 2.5 hours it took to complete the meal. Kunah was a pleasant meal as well. It was easy to get reservations. Nami - the sushi place, has a limited menu but we enjoyed the sushi they had. There was a Mexican Theme night on Friday at La Perla. The food was good and the show was not overly impressive but it entertained my son. The lobby bar had some entertainment and was only open until midnight, which was fine with me. The weather was perfect every day. One day we did get talked into playing beach volley ball, salsa lessons by the pool, bingo & water basketball, all fun and spearheaded by the pool entertainment crew. We would have played more beach volleyball but it didn't seem there were many interested people, nor did they organize it other than that one day. Check out was a breeze. They did charge us for M&M's that we did not eat. I told them we did not take them & they removed them from our bill, no problem. If you are thinking about upgrading from Lagoon view to Ocean view - do it before you finalize your reservation. It was a small fee to upgrade ($75) for the whole week, on-line, but at the hotel - it was like $80/day! The all inclusive is the same - so much more expensive to do it after you book a regular room. Do it with the original reservation or it will really cost you. Overall, it was a great trip & the hotel was wonderful. I'd be happy staying there again.

Hotel is only a 5-minute bus ride away from the party area and right across the street from la isla mall where you can shop and dine. The hotel has a huge infinity pool which is the biggest in that area, the beach is beautiful and the staff serves you drinks and food wherever you are in the hotel. The food and drinks in the hotel are very good and inexpensive, there's a happy hour every day where you get two drinks for the price of one. The hotel offers a lot of activities such as day trips or clubbing but also free daily activities at the hotel such as fashion shows, contests, water aerobics, volleyball tournaments, salsa and Spanish and scuba diving lessons. Even if you're on a small student budget like me and my friends were you can enjoy Cancun in a luxurious atmosphere in the westin lagunamar!

Now keeping in mind this hotel just opened up on week prior to us checking it I thought it ran fairly well. The staff was eager to please rooms were kept very clean and well stocked with towels, shampoo, alcohol, and had AMAZING view of the ocean. Moving onto the food I was a little upset you had to wait 2 days to book one of the nicer restaurants, then had to get up at 8:00 to stand in line in the lobby for 20 minutes to book one everyday. The finer dining was really a treat I recommend the headche to go to at leat two of them. The buffets were good, breakfast did get a little borning, and the cheese/dairy is not like it is here in the USA. IF you are loooking to be near the nightlife dont stay here you are a good $20 taxi ride away from all the fun like COCO Bongos, stay at the RIU Cancun or Las Americancas. I hope in the future they get more activites for guest to do if it rains your bored to death here! Also hope they improve music at the pools during the daytime, and the shows at night are a little old fashioned....this place really could use a nightclub or a DJ at night to dance to.

The service is world class. The attention to detail and friendliness is very impressive. The resort is in need of some upgrades. Long ago I recycled the type of TV we had in our room. Decor is very outdated as well. Everything else is what you'd expect from a 5 star hotel.

Great beach access with life guard on duty. Plus cabanas, beach umbrellas and chaises for rent. Waiters to serve you on the beach. And a shallow 3.5 ft pool for the little ones. If this is not paradise...
Ok. There are three irritants. The dress code in 2 of their restaurants. Geez, most folks staying there were families on vacation with kids. Can't they create a family area with no dress code in these restaurants? Second, they charge for Internet access which ought to be made a sin! Third, the TV is vintage!!

if your looking to go down and stay at the riu just keep in mind there is no free WiFi anymore !! Rui head office has decided to charge there guest's for the internet they do give you an hour and a half free a day from the time you first log on you will then have to wait 24 hours before you can get WiFi again and no access to email unless you pay the rate . also heard another rumor that Rui will now charge for beach towels if you decide to change your towel more then once a day Rui is starting to get real cheap i see this resort going down hill if they don't change there attitude

Awesome Honeymoon experience

Mr. Beezly
- May 20, 2012
We were extremely happy with our experience. This place and the staff were amazing. The only little thing I would say was a negative was the water here is not the crystal blue water you expect in Cancun. The water was nice don't get me wrong, but as you are driving to this location you pass beaches with water you've seen in pictures. The staff, the resort and the overall experience were amazing. We got off the plane and everything was taken care of as I expected. I can't stress how awesome the staff was and how amazing the resort is. Thanks for the great experience.

We stayed here two nights last week and really enjoyed ourselves. The outside pool area was perfect and had just the layout we hoped for. Our room was very clean and staff very friendly. Had a few drinks down in the hotel lobby from Alfredo who was an absolute pleasure :)
You must treat yourself to this spa- it is a dream spa. My husband and I had couple massages and then enjoyed the pool, steam and sauna rooms afterwards. Best spa we have ever been to by far !!!
Food was also great but we only had breakfast there. Definitely would recommend this place and can't beat the price for how nice it is.

Great Hotel

This is a very nice all inclusive resort. Everything was spotless and beautiful! The food was good for an all inclusive, some of the dishes were excellent. We booked 2 Garden View rooms and upgraded to Ocean Front upon arrival for $50 usd per night per room plus tax. Glad we did. The views are gorgeous!! The staff are all very pleasent and helpful. The pools are beautiful. Could have done without the hand full of drunken idiots that ruined one afternoon around the infinity pool for everyone else, but alcohol sometimes brings out the worst in folks. The marble hallways are a bit noisy with foot traffic. The small portable fan we brought with us was a GREAT idea to drown out that hallway noise at night! They could use carpet runners in the hallways. The airconditioning was sufficient, but could be a tad cooler in the rooms. This is a VERY good value! Would love to go back!

Prior to hotel: The usual cab from the airport to live aqua was 35.00 dollars (NOT PESOS). From live aqua to clubs ( mandala or cocobongos) was 6 to 10 pesos. Just depends on your taxi. Conversion rates as of May /12 = $1 US dollar=12.50 Mexican pesos. People accept both currencies just remember american dollar has more worth so stretch it out.
Live Aqua: We went for 5 day vacation to live aqua. As soon as we stepped into the hotel we were greeted with tea and a hand massage. The staff was AMAZING. The hotel was modern and chic and it invigorated all the senses which is the overall concept. Our room was an ocean view room and it was well worth the upgrade from our original garden view. House keeping came by 3 times a day. Furthermore, all amenities were exactly as described when we booked the hotel. The 7 pools were spectacular! I never ever write reviews on hotels but this hotel deserves it. My boyfriend and I booked the explor expedition and so one of our days was totally consumed at the park; although we enjoyed ourselves very much we wanted to just be at the hotel! We weren't expecting quality food or drinks as the hotel is an All inclusive hotel, however we were proven wrong- the food was gourmet all day/night and premium liquor was served ! The hotel had something for everyone.
Shopping: Close by are 2 big shopping malls that are tax free with designer stores but pricey. I suggest that you speak to the locals or other vacationers to venture into "market places" out of the tourist zone. Words of advice: ask for what you want, TIP ( we wasted 50 dollars in tips during our stay), and do not believe what others say about Cancun not being safe. IT's super safe. If you're planning on getting so drunk you can't remember a thing it is advisable to stay at the hotel.
Club scene: We are from Miami, so we know about the club scene. We decided to go to mandala 25 dollars for Men and free entry for women (please negotiate). Music was not varied. Lots of euro techno. Other clubs like dady O and XX seems to be more varied and were popping! COCO bongos was extremely expensive. In total only 5 clubs in the area.
Overall a great time and we will be going back as soon as possible.Compared to other destinations which are more hectic this destination promoted Relaxation and balance.

We have been to Le Blanc twice now and both times it was perfect! The facilities are beautiful AND CLEAN! The service is beyond amazing! Have never seen a group of employees work so hard to please you! I suppose the weight gained over our week stay tells you how the food is! It is also nice because, if you don't see something you want to eat, they will prepare it for you!! You can't go wrong staying at Le Blanc. It's easy, beautiful and the relaxation begins the moment you enter the lobby!!!

It was simply outstanding. My wife and I were completely satisfied. It was like an upscale summer camp for adults. The staff was very helpful, but not intrusive. I was particularly impressed with how the staff encouraged participation in activities ... like pool volleyball and evening entertainment offerings. Tatiana and LiLi were exceptional in this regard. We will definitely come back.
We ate at the French, Italian and Buffet restaurants. The food was excellent at all 3 places - we liked the Italian the best. Shopping is close by, we walked to shopping and felt very safe walking the main street there.
I was impressed with hotel security, the quiet ambiance, and the decor of the surroundings.

We came down to Mexico for a bachelor party and the hotel's pools with live DJ are really nice. The bali beds are a nice touch and very useful when it is raining outside since they are covered and you can still stay and enjoy the view and the water! Food is great at all their restaurants but most importantly the staff is very friendly, helpful and respectful. I would definitely stay there next time I am in Cancun

- May 14, 2012
Walking distance to the malls and local restaurants that were better than their own, which were overpriced. Since the hotel turned all-inclusive, I guess that no longer matters but the food quality just isn't there. We stayed in the luxury ocean front room on a higher floor. Room was very clean and the view fantastic. The staff was ok, but the least of my concern. While, I wish they didn't waste three hours of my time trying to sell me time shares (not worth it, just say no), the hotel is a great, trendy place with contemporary designs. We came here to relax on the beach and escape the city life.

True taste of Mexico with peace and quiet

Our stay at Avalan Baccar was lovely. The hotel itself is a true taste of Mexico with it's old Mexican mansion style. The rooms were comfortable. The restaurant was cozy. Great breakfast! And the beach was unbelievable. We looked left and right to the other hotels and the beach front was crammed. We were the only two people on the beach in front of the Avalon Baccara. Our own little quiet paradise. Very quiet and relaxing and the staff were very friendly and helpful!

Not a Seasoned Traveler

The hotel was beautiful and looks just like it does in the pictures. Though the beach was different from what I am accustomed, it was still nice. There is sand with huts and chairs(which are free), then a retaining wall with steps into the ocean. If you want to walk straight into the ocean you can walk a short distance either way down the beach and have a more "typical" beach area. Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville was awesome. We were not impressed by Senor Frogs. Be sure and do a jungle zipline tour. It's a blast. Make sure you bring small bills (USD) because alot of places will not be able to make change. I would not recommend bringing any 100 dollar bills. There is a safe in the room, use it. And if you do not know a few key phrases in Spanish, look them up and write them down. Though most speak some English, few are fluent, so I would at least learn to say "How much?", "What time is it?", and "Take us to ___".

I was visiting family in Cancun. The hotel was perfect. The staff was very friendly and very accomodating. There was a water leak in my room and the management at the hotel arranged another room for me. The additional room was upgraded and very nice with a beautiful view. I was very satisfied with my stay at the hotel.

Description
The Royal Mayan is the hideaway for your Mexican Caribbean dream vacation. Nestled beside Cancun's finest beach, the resort offers endless views of powder-white sands and sparkling turquoise waters. Experience tropical ease and elegance at every turn, spacious self-catering villas and an impressive array of resort services.
Members and guests can relax on the beach or by the pools and enjoy a variety of activities including tennis, volleyball, aqua aerobics and sail boating.
Guests staying on Saturday night may need to change units. The hotel will work to avoid this scenario, but when necessary, management will work directly with guests to streamline this process.
The lovingly tended gardens between The Royal Mayan and its sister resorts The Royal Caribbean and The Royal Islander are full of hibiscus, bougainvillea and other tropical shrubs to attract colorful native birds and butterflies.
From its name to the sculptures of Mayan gods and long-lost rulers in the lobby and in the gardens and even the hand-carved mahogany villa doors, The Royal Mayan takes its inspiration from the Maya, one of the most sophisticated ancient cultures in the Americas. There is even an archaeological site on the doorstep! San Miguelito is a small Mayan ruin in the jungle between the resort and the highway that dates from the Post-Classic period of Mayan history (A.D. 900-1521), when Cancun was settled by traders, farmers and fishermen.
Guests have a choice of two restaurants at The Royal Mayan: La Palapa, a thatched poolside eatery offering International and Mexican favorites and El Conquistador, an intimate setting for a romantic candlelit dinner.

We had our family in a 2-bedroom suite for a week. Very friendly staff, comfortable rooms and beds, and beautiful views of the creamy-blue ocean from our hotel balcony! This is a nice resort, which caters to mature visitors or families (not your noisy, party hotel...), and you will definitely get much-needed peace to relax and enjoy your surroundings, before heading back to wherever you came from.
As far as activities, make sure you book the ocean diving course if you can. It is safe and well organized and absolutely worth it. We also booked a diver with an underwater HD camera to follow our family dive, and we now have wonderful videos and pictures of our 30-foot dive off an Isla Mujeres reef. Fantastic!
We would book the Royal Mayan again, with no hesitation!

This resort is the most fun for the money! Food is good and has 4 restaurants plus 1 buffet to choose from. Activities all afternoon at the pool and evening activities as well. The night club Patty O'S, stays open "til 5 A.M.! There are lots of beds on the beach if you just want to chill after dinner and watch the moon and lights. Things can get pretty crazy at the pool in the afternoon! Every one is topless and most even get bottomless! You can do what you want and no one pressures you to do anything that you don't want to. We had a wonderful time!

Although this hotel advertises to couples and singles, there were mostly couples there. The buffets were average, but the a la carte restaurants were great! The beach is okay, as there is a fair amount of seaweed in the water, but there was plenty of other fun to be had, especially at the sexy pool. We have stayed at nicer resorts with more amenities, but the party atmosphere was unparalleled. Do NOT go here unless you are open minded, as there are all types of interesting guests.

The hotel was fantastic, the stuff were very kind. However, the check in took very long time. Overall the hotel is awesome. The only thing that I didn't like about this hotel is its too far from the tourism area which called HOTEL ZONE!!! by the way its good for families, couples, but not for young people :)

Check in was a breeze. Arrived at 12:30pm with a fussy toddler and was allowed to check in right away. Bellboy was awesome. Requested a crib and ashtray from him and was at the room within 10min. 1 bedroom suite is sweet. 4th floor awesome view of the resort and the beach. Went to the concierges desk after we got situated and was given the run down of the resort. At the end was pitched the timeshare presentation and respectfully declined and was never asked again. 24 hr Room service was a lifesaver having a sick child. The spa was amazing one of the best massages I have had while on vacation. Disappointing that the sushi restaurant was not open and the steakhouse was not open either due to renovation. Davino's had awesome Med/Italian cuisine. Zama had Mexican with the option of a sushi menu if you asked. The sushi was good. Beach and pool service was perfect paying constant attention to my family. The beach is Ok as far as the water, the beach it self was better then average and was always able the find a spot with shade. The pools were awesome and my son loved the one dedicated for the kids. It was as warm as a bath so it was nice on a cloudy day. Only complaint is the inconsistencies of the food ordered from room service and the snack bar. Also sign ever time you order a drink gets a little annoying but if you ask for them to leave the tab open and you can continue to drink. The construction on the second phase has begun but never noticed any sounds from it while on the beach. All in all i would recommend this resort for the price we payed but we are the type the never go to the same resort twice.

The staff was excellent and freindly. The hotel gives more of a quaint type atmosphere which was very nice. The buffet was fine but not as nice as the other three hotels I stayed at prior to this trip. The Italian and Oriental restaurants were very nice. The onsite gym should be included in the "All-inclusive" price. The rooms are well kept and very clean. Overall, a very nice, relaxing getaway. I also sent my son on his honeymoon here in May 2012.

Overall it's a nice hotel. It has two pools and a really nice beach. The rooms are very nice and the one I stayed in had its own small balcony. It is mainly visited by older couples and doesn't have a fun atmosphere. Also the food seemed pretty expensive (breakfast buffet was $15 per person and was said to be cheap).

Great stay

Jaime Dos
- Mar 18, 2012
Just returned from a week at Royal Islander. Accommodations were great--functional, not opulent. We stayed in a one bedroom suite which included a full kitchen and made a number of meals there. They have lots of activities and dining options on premises at the Royal Islander and its sister properties, Royal Mayan and Royal Caribbean. We took yoga classes several times and the intro Spanish language class. We decided to make use of the loaner bikes they offered to ride up toward town, but found it very slow going. There were sidewalks the whole way, but many stretches didn't have ramps on the curbs, which required some creativity.
The staff at Royal Islander were universally friendly, never pushy or trying to sell you anything. A very enjoyable stay.

We had a great time. The hotel was small and very relaxing. The staff paid great attention. If you are looking for a party hotel this is NOT it. But we wanted to get away from everything and this hotel was perfect. The location is great and whatever amenities you couldn't find at Casa Turquesa you could find close to the hotel. We had breakfast there one morning and lunch on another day. While the breakfast was perfect, the lunch was not. The only thing I would say they could work on. Staff was very helpful and friendly.

Exactly What I Had Hoped For

I've looked forward to writing this since coming back from my trip. Before booking, I had read a previous review for this place which was very favorable and as the place to just relax and unwind. That was exactly what I wanted, and was exactly what I got. No hustle or bustle here, which is hard to find in Cancun. It seems like a place apart, even being on Hotel Row.
This place is truly a 5-star resort. Small by comparison (less than 30 suites)it is elegant, quiet, and simply beautifully appointed. I stayed 5 mights, looking to get away from it all, and this place fulfilled every expectation and more with grace and the utmost attention to detail.
Prior to the trip, I had some questions and the resort quickly replied to my emails both times. The resort arranged for me to be shuttled from the airport to the resort. Upon arrival, I was sat at a desk for a private check in, during which one of the staff brought me a nice refreshing fruit juice drink. Once in my room, within a half hour, a staff person brought me a silver bowl of fresh fruits and a bottle of very nice champaign on ice. Later the first full day I was there, I arrived back at the room in the afternoon to find a fresh caraff of coffee and small pastries.
Pay the extra few bucks to get a suite with an ocean view. My suite featured a covered balcony that had a jacuzzi and table and chairs. The interior of the suite was gorgeous. The suite was spacious, and in addition to the main room, there was a changing room, and separate enclosures each for shower, bath, and toilet. All granite tile floors in every room. There was a large bathtub in a granite tiled alcove, and granite tiled shower stall with heavy glass door.
The decor fit the boutique/art gallery theme of the resort. Splendid works of art on the walls. Large flat panel TV. Comfortable couch and chairs. Since it was fairly warm at night at the end of February, my favorite thing was to open the sliding door to the balcony wide and go to sleep with the sea breeze blowing threw the curtains, and the sounds of the ocean lulling me to sleep. No bugs!!
Reservations included either breakfast or lunch, of which I only had breakfasts. There was a nice variety of items to order from, some Mexican, but the traditional American egg variations. They start you off with a delicious plate of fresh fruit sliced, and a basket of small Mexican pastries. Breakfasts are served in a very nice octagon shaped building next to the pool and with an ocean view.
I had dinner there one night, a cut of steak with salad, vegetables, bread and rice. It was OK, but not gourmet. But with the wonderful dinner options in the Cancun area, many of which are cheaper and better, I would dine out at night.
Let me comment on the staff. The service I experienced here was about the best of any place I've ever stayed. They practically tripped over themselves seeing that you are satisfied. Everyone was very polite, respectful and pleasant. Most spoke enough English to understand what you are saying. And they were patient with my terrible Spanglish. The grounds are immaculately kept. The security is ample. The beach is semi-private and because there were not many other guests, I felt like I had the place to myself. I was surprised by how few others were there. A few retired couples, one small business group, and a family with four teens and an ooops child (all the kids were very well behaved).
An interesting note about this resort. In talking to one of the shuttle drivers not associated with the resort, he was unaware that the resort had re-opened. What I learned is that Hurricane Wilma pretty much destroyed the resort in 2005. It was closed until about a year or so ago. Suffice it to say, they completely rebuild the interior and the grounds and other facilities and they did a really nice job.
The only complaint I had was the really really slow wifi connection. It was slow everywhere in the building, but I think it was an issue bigger than the resort...
