Beautiful hotel but room needs a lift

  • lilycworld
  • Dec 6, 2012
The hotel ground is beautiful and meticulously kept. The view of Sea of Cortez was perfect. The beach is clean. We rented a car and had to drive around twice to find the entrance road to the hotel. The hotel website needs to spell it out clearer. I emailed the hotel two weeks before arrival to ask a couple of questions. I never got a reply. Once we got there, staff were all friendly and wonderful. The room itself was dated and dark. We booked an ocean-view room. It turned out that you can't see the ocean from the room itself. You have to go on the balcony. It should be advertised as such. At night, there was clicking sound coming from outside the room. I couldn't locate where it came from. It sounded like HVAC pipe noise. It woke me up several times at night even with my ear plugs in. It wasn't a restful vacation as I had hoped. We went to most of the restaurants on site since we got a credit. They were all good but overpriced. Now the timeshare presentation. When we checked in, we were directed to a "welcome" desk, which turned out to be the timeshare company. The guy was very nice introducing us to the restaurants and local interests and activities. He didn't force us to go to the timeshare presentation, but pointed out we would get a free breakfast, plus $150 restaurant credit and discounts on many activities. Since we love food and like to get out and explore, the savings was tempting. He said the timeshare presentation would be 75 minutes. So we signed up. It turned out to be 2.5 hours! The manager guy came in after we didn't jump on it and slashed the price by 1/3. Wondered how he could do that. Timeshare doesn't fit our live style anyway so we declined. We did save some money but wasted half a day. We didn't like the fact that the hotel seemed to be connected with the timeshare company and gave them two desks right in the check-in area.

The Sheraton is a solid 4 star hotel. The grounds are amazing and well kept. The pools are clean. The food was definitely above average. We did the brunch buffet the first day which is a good bargain if you are going to drink too but the second day we just ate from the menu and it was awesome! The location is good. Close enough to town but far enough way from the craziness. However, it's a $40 cab ride (RT# or $20 if you take the hotel shuttle which can have inconvenient pick up/drop off times. The staff was super friendly and accommodating ##ust make sure to skip the timeshare pitch right after you check in)! Would definitely stay at the Sheraton again.

Sirena Del Mar was fantastic. A gorgeous suite, two beautiful pools, beach access, a great restaurant -- all in all, it couldn't get better. Traveling with 2 little kids, we found it very relaxing and very fun, for both the adults and the kids. The one thing that we were surprised by was that the room wasn't cleaned daily. Otherwise, it was a great experience!

The hotel "touts" ocean view rooms but unless you want to buy a time share {even if you paid for an ocean view room} they are very hard to come by. All Inclusive, { our package}... does not mean all inclusive....We have stayed in many Resorts "all inclusive" and this is the first with lots of rules, The room was huge and decorated nice . While management was not very helpful...{Again unless you want to buy a Timeshare} but. the STAFF was terrific and more than made up for any problems that arose !!!! . Management should take a lesson from its Staff

Romantic get away

  • Paul the relaxed guy
  • Dec 15, 2012
The location feels very remote yet is only 10 mins to town. The beach is over 2 miles long and very private. At times we were the only ones walking on the beach. It felt like ours. Sweet. The room was adequate despite not being overly large. Very clean and it had all we really needed. The staff here are amazing. So so nice, accommodating and personal.Could not ask for better service. The food is very fresh, healthy and wholesome. You can get the carb load type food if you like or fresh fish, fruits, etc with a mexican flare. Good quality alcohol as well. Great tequila options if you wish to pay for the best of the best. It is very zen and relaxing. We were in culture shock at first then really learned to appreciate to screaming kids or any type of crazy anywhere. Feel into the meditative state of mind here. We plan to return next year to decompress.

Trip to relax

  • FCSL
  • Oct 4, 2012
It was definitely a very relaxing resort, as there was not much to do. When we arrived we signed up for the viewing of the time shares in order to get a $150 spa credit. You had to give $20 US in order to do this and we were told we would get it back after the presetation. When we arrived for the viewing we were told that we only got a $140 spa credit, and would not get $10 of our $10 back. We left as we felt we they were not up front with us about how the process worked.

From the moment we got off the airplane and our driver picked us up with cold towels to refresh and bottled water, our get a way was a dream. We were met at the Resort after a cool drive, and shown around by our private concierge. We were greeted with margaritas and chips in our room . We relaxed and then had lunch - amazing food at La Palapa Bar and Grill overlooking the crashing waves. Spa and nap and we were in heaven before our amazing dinner . Our concierge was always available to arrange our extra activities and the beauty of the Resort greeted us at every turn.

Good value for your money

  • cabowapo

This hotel is located in a highway so expect some noise at night, beds could be more comfy. The staff is very helpful. I visited the spa and restaurant (vegeterian) both are very good and at excellent price. Free wifi and complimentary water bottles. I recommend to rent a car while in Los Cabos or try the public buses.

A Perfect Getaway!

  • Genevieve professional traveller
  • Mar 19, 2010
The first thing I noticed about the Vistazul was this cool fountain out front that made the place look really huge! The front desk was so nice and check in and check out was a breeze. We got a studio room because we were there on a bit of a budget, and it was a great size. The queen size bed was pretty hard, but we were so tired from running around all over that we never noticed. Every room has a balcony overlooking their beautifully landscaped courtyard, pool, and restaurant palapa so the place looks bigger from the outside than it really is. We felt a lot of the time like we were the only ones there, even though the hotel was almost full to capacity. The room itself was very pretty... super clean and had a great huge shower and nice tile bathroom, a fridge to keep extra beer and leftovers, a TV that we never turned on lol... and a great closet that had tons of space to spread out. The rest of the experience there was so perfect I can't even explain it. The staff was amazing. The cleaning crew pretty much figured out that we slept super late so they must have waited until they saw us leave to go clean our room because they only came to the door once, but whenever we left and came back our room was sparkling and had fresh bottles of water. The nightwatchman guy brought us a knife all the way from the kitchen to cut limes with in the middle of the night and told us that if we ever wanted a beer, or wine, or food... to just call him and he'd bring it right up! Super nice people everywhere else too. The service in the restaurant was a bit slow (but you'll find that's just the pace down there) but super accommodating and the food is yummy and priced well. Our last day there they even let us order breakfast while sitting in the jacuzzi and served us over there too... it was AWESOME!!! There is traffic noise since you're right off of the highway 1 which is the main road to and from Cabo, but the fountain out front helps to drown it out a bit, and honestly, unless you're from the country where all you hear are crickets every night I don't think it will phase you. We're city people, and I thought it was tranquil. We were on the top floor and had a view of the ocean and the rest of the property we both thought was beautiful. We were there for a family wedding held at the uber swank Marquis Los Cabos, and even thought that place was pretty, we both really loved our little spot too. HUGE THUMBS UP!!!... we LOVE Vistazul, and for the price, I felt like it was a steal.

Location makes this deal amazing! Kitchenettes in rooms make the trip a little cheaper on the wallet but the fridges are the small ones. The staff is friendly and courteous. There are no ice machines when I looked and asked, but you can go down by the kitchen and they'll give you as much ice as you want (tipping is the way to go). Love the hotel restaurant Esquina, has a great vibe, food selection and bar scene. Also this hotel is pet friendly! No fee.

A group of us stayed here before our Villa was ready in Pedregal. It was just the perfect combination of boutique and quite hotel we were looking for. The beds are really comfortable and the hotel staff are very accommodating. I would recommend this hotel to those who want something not right on the water and in the heart of all the noise. We will be back.

Above Average

  • Jim LA

Marina Fiesta has a great location and very friendly, outgoing staff. All inclusive package was above average with plenty of food which was not exceptional but was good. All inclusive drinks only included "Well" drinks - no Jaegermeister or good Reposado Tequila were included. Biggest gripe was the room noise - tile floors and 5 to 6 story buildings - every morning at 7 AM the sound of adjacent rooms and cleaning crew just reverberated off the floors making it next to impossible to sleep past 7 or 8 AM.

Very good with exceptions

  • Goingback
  • Nov 2, 2012
This was our 4th time to the Marina Fiesta Resort and was as we expected - Very Good. However we were disappointed on check in, they were going to put us in their Phase 2 rooms, which are out back and we had booked a Harbor View room. We did get our room changed but to a pool view room, but very nice. The second disappointment was with our All Inclusive. There are two different grades of All Inclusive and we were in the lower category which limited your places to eat and you are given a printed menu which is a very limited selection of the main menu. When we checked in we were not notified that there is a difference and given a opportunity to upgrade if we would have liked too. Going back but with a little more knowledge

Medano Beach

This hotel sits right on the Medano Beach where everybody want to be. In terms of location - this is perfect. Staff is friendly and accomodative. We were upgraded from junior suite to 1-bedroom at no additional cost. Same thing happened on our previous trip. This is very nice of them. The room is double the size w/huge balcony-terrace.Easy access to the beach w/cabanas and food & drinks service on the spot. From the hotel its about a 10 minute walk to the marina where the night life - food places and entertainment available. This Hotel has a restaurant called "12 Tribes" which sits on the beautiful terrace overlooking the Arch and a shore of the Sea of Cortez, however, the restaurant itself could use a better quality food and perhaps a better cook considering the status of the Hotel. All else is perfect.,

Casa Dorada's rooms and grounds are new, clean and very comfortable. Patio's were spacious. The hotel and staff were very courtious but the location makes the difference. Stairs from the pool area right down to the beach We have stayed at other hotels very close - Bahia, Bonito Rose, Cabo Villa - but Casa Dorada was a significantly better experience for us. It was also very quite overall even thought the hotel was pretty full.

Great location but the hotel needs a face lift

  • Bogdan I
  • Nov 30, 2012
We spent 8 days in Pueblo Bonito Blanco. I believe this is one of the best locations in Cabo, with a nice beach, where you can go in the ocean, and close to everything at the same time. Unfortunately this place is and looks dated. It shows that once the timeshares were sold out for this place nothing was updated (except for the fees maybe). We don't own here so I don't know. However the hotel does not have a jacuzzi, nor does the Pueblo Bonito Rose next door. The view from the room is outstanding and the size is nice but the old bulky TV that has a sound below any expectations was disappointing. The internet is free only in a limited area at the next door hotel (Rose). With an update this could be a great place, otherwise it is just a perfect location.

Location, All Inclusive, Great Pool next door

Overall, we enjoyed our experience and would go back again. • Location: Awesome – 5 stars. Right on the Medano beach with views of Lovers Beach. We can do all the water activities right there and walk to Mango deck in 3 min. 10 min walk to downtown where all the night life is or $6 cab. Very very convenient. The view is spectacular every day! • Room: 4 stars. Henoc is very friendly and always there at the front desk and if you give him a good reason, he will try to give you a free upgrade to a better room. We got an upgrade and had a nice ocean view. The room arrangement felt a little weird at first. The bedroom is separate with no views and the living and dining area has the view to the ocean, but it turned out better as hubby can watch TV in living room and I can sleep well in the bedroom. I give 4 stars though as our safe broke twice. We ended up just giving up using it. Nothing was lost, more of a hassle to keep asking it to be fixed. Our shower broke once but they fixed it in 20 min so no big deal. Beds were comfortable enough. Only have double beds – okay by us as we can snuggle in one if we want to or sleep separately if we want more space. • Food: 4 stars. Lots of varieties. Love the fact we can do a la carte or buffet. At probably 5 times a day as we had the all inclusive deal (recommend this – great for my low carb diet) They asked us to make reservations but given Oct is not high season, we didn’t and got in everywhere with no issues. We love the buffet breakfast in Mare Nostrom in the Rose with made to order eggs and they made me egg benedict twice even though it’s not on the menu. We love doing lunch at Cilantro overlooking the ocean or at the pool at Rose hotel. Delicious food. Fish ceviche at Cilantro is awesome!! Sushi bar is pretty good especially if you stick to Tuna. We had Tuna Sashimi Serrantino, Fried Rice and Calamari. Others say the other fishes are not as good so we didn’t try. Dinner buffet are usually good with variety. You can also order a grill for two with all kinds of meat on it. They also deliver food to the room until 1am for a $5 charge. That was useful as we get hungry at night and there is no food option except that after 10pm. Only complaint is lots of flies and bugs in some areas of Mare Nostrom. Makes me wonder if all the food is clean if they left it open. We had a little stomach issue one day but it was mild and passed. Not sure it was from the food or the heat. • Service: 3.5 stars. I think if you don’t tip extra, you will get a 3 star experience. Service is slower and less prompt. We decided to tip often about $50 total for a week and service was much better. Waiter will remember your drink order from the day before and will also bring you a ice bucket for your water by the pool. I dislike the fact that service is different based on tips but understand why it’s that way, I guess since this hotel is not all all inclusive. The mix makes the service inconsistent. • Entertainment: 3 stars. Best night was sat night Carnival night. Show is spectacular and well worth it. Other nights are pretty dead. Day time activities at the Rose are somewhat entertaining – water aerobic class is a bit better than at our hotel + volleyball + contests. Wish they played more music. • Pool: 5 stars for the pool at the Rose. The size is awesome and perfect 3 – 3.5 feet deep. Love the cabanas which you can get if you go early. No extra charge. The pool at our hotel is smaller but also good. • Clientele: seems to have more older 45 – 60+ year old crowd and out of shape. 30% younger crowd. We didn’t mind it as it’s quiet and we can go into town for partying but would have like more eye candies at the pool. We will stay here again. Rooms have a better view and about the same price at the Rose.

The Palace was the place to be

  • Lobster Claw
  • Dec 26, 2012
First off - Cabo San Lucas is the cleanest city in Mexico I have been too. The RIU Palace was in great shape. I went next door to the RIU Sante Fe to see how it was and it was over-crowded. It was definitely worth the extra money to stay at the Palace. The food was good. The afternoon Italian buffet was excellent and the Steak House at night was my favorite. The rooms were decent yet turned over twice a day with unlimited access to the fridge and liquor. The only issue I had was with the bartenders. You had to watch them pour your drink. If you ordered an Absolut and cranberry and you were not watching them (I would have someone else watch) you would get the cheap vodka. I experienced this at different bars on the resort which made me think it was the hotel's policy. I once caught a lady mixing me a drink with the bottle that just reads Vodka and she told me I was wrong. I left the hotel a lot so I wasn't sitting at the bar all day and night. However, I thought this was poor and dishonest customer service.

November in Cabo San Lucas at VDA

  • MRjimo
  • Nov 19, 2012
This was our first time staying at VDA, we had walked through the property during a previous visit to Cabo and said the next time we came we would give this place a try. First off Pros & Cons of VDA: Pros: -The staff and locals are fantastic, so friendly and helpful. Hotel Management not so much! -Weather hot and sunny for 14 days. -Proximity to town a 10-15 min safe walk day or evening. -If you decide to not pay for All-Inclusive, Wal mart & La Europea will have all the food & booze you could ever need. -Rooms are very spacious with nice kitchens in the 1 Bdrm suites. -Pools are the typical big resort layout, quiet pool, kids pool, loud pool. Nice padded loungers. -Beach is large with one of the only swimming areas, 90% of the beach front has an undertow that makes swimming unsafe. Cons; -Timeshare sharks, you will be offered your "welcome package" and to collect it you are subjected to losing +2-3 hours of your vacation, pass unless you want to sign up. They are relentless, phoned our room every day, I just said later later until they stopped. -The west side of the hotel looks over a swamp, this is "garden view" the noise from the highway, the horns from buses & trucks made us feel like we were back in downtown Vancouver. Add to that the bug population is much greater on this side of the building. -Bugs...OMG, some folks are more susceptible to mosquitoes then others, unfortunately I had to use bug repellent whenever we sat on our ground floor suite as well as when we would go watch the sunsets at night. Daytime around the pool was less of a problem. -Internet, the charge is $12/day however the speed and connectivity is what you would have expected in 1998 with a dial-up modem. A gross overcharge for the level of service. -Management... we were very disappointed with our first room when we went back to the front desk and requested a change we were told the property was fully booked. After not backing down and spending the better part of our first day going back and forth to the lobby, we looked at a number of rooms finally agreeing on a poolside ground unit with an ocean view. As it turned out the property was 65% full at best, I'll never understand why they do this to guests, especially if you're staying for 2 weeks!?! Remember....(polite)squeaky wheel often gets the grease. -The all-inclusive deal is expensive equals +/-$90/day and the food selection is minimal only one restaurant, however you can also go to VDA's sister hotel Villa Del Palmar a 5 min bus ride away to eat there as well. We decided on saving the money, made a few trips to the Wal mart 10 min up the road and took advantage of the full kitchen in our suite. Over-all I would say this property was good value for what we paid. After we were settled in a decent room we enjoyed 13 fabulous days of sunshine and relaxation. There are a lot of options in Cabo, each geared slightly to the vacation you're after, family, adults only, partying, relaxing, adventure, do some homework to get the most out of the thousands of dollars you're willing to spend. After talking to a number of folks, one of the biggest complaints of Cabo are the Timeshare sharks at the airport & hotels. Having been to Cabo before we learned how to avoid these people who will do almost anything get hooked in. If you do get sucked in by them they will literally steal +3 hours of your life that you will never get back and possibly worse get you to hand over +$15,000 of your hard earned money on a really bad deal you can never get out of.

Perfect Getaway, Except...

My husband and I went away and selected Villa Del Arco to celebrate our 1st Wedding Anniversary.. Everything was wonderful, from the friendly staff to the wonderful service by the pool (German was exceptional.. he was super fast and accomodating).. The Spa and Gym were both really great.. The only thing that would keep me from giving this hotel an almost perfect score is the fact that the concierge kept insisting on having us join one of their complimentary breakfast to listen to a 90minute discussion related to timeshares. We contiued to decline but it is clear that each staff member down to the wait staff are all trained in attempting to pitch the timeshare opportunities. Otherwise, the trip was perfect for us.. we stayed a total 5-days and 4-nights..

decent value and good location

the resort provided decent value for the money spent. It was a little annoying having to give your room # more than once every time you ordered drinks or food or even showed up for dinner. The other all-inclusive resorts I've visited don't do this. It got wearisome. Staff was decent but a little lacking - overall a little underwhelmed. Great views though and the pool area was very, very nice.

Very pleasant hotel., Clean, spacious court yard and pool area, very friendly staff. Good food. Perfect location. Minuses would include limited ocean view and annoying vendors waiting to sell you things you don't need just as you step out to the beach. Overall, we had a good time.,

This hotel is all about location.

We had 3 couples and 1 single lady at the Wyndham for 4 nights. We had to change rooms since we did not get our penthouse suite that was paid for. Pool music is way to loud at the time we wanted to go to the pool. Hotel says there is a new quiet area now, I say them working on it. Seems to be quiet away from pool. Had to request toilet paper in room at least 3 times. The front desk never could get my credit card straight for incidentals, very frustrating. View is great from penthouse, mediocre from other room. Would not stay here again.

THE GOOD AND THEN THE BAD: The hotel is a decent one. When you show up, they help you out and get you to your room fairly fast. The floors where the rooms are located, are a maze of hallways and stairs, some of which are not handicap accessible at all. But when you get the the rooms they are comfortable and have tv, a/c, and seem to be well cleaned. The bad thing they did to me was not tell me that the pool is under construction till the middle of august, 2012, so i showed up having to walk all the way to the beach everyday, instead of kicking back poolside. ALSO the most annoying thing about the hotel is that you cannot bring guests to your room, same with most hotels down there, which i find absurd, other than the fact that Cabo may have a "call-girl" problem. I could not believe i could not bring my brother up to my room to hang out for a bit, because he was not staying in the same hotel. Over all the stay was comfortable, but average if not a 2.5 out of 5. I mainly used the hotel as a quick hub for drop-offs and cat-naps. (do not recommend children, bring them to cancun, cabo is an adult town).
