For the quiet, relaxing vacation on the beach for value, this is the perfect place. Close (1km) to Akumal beach and restaurants, and 30 min. easy drive to Playa del Carmen where there are many authentic Mexican restaurants, this is a great place to come back many times.

Good location

The hotel has a nice beach, very scenic. Although not ideal for swimming, it is very well located for walking to the heart of Akumal for shopping, eating, happy hour and snorkeling in Akumal Bay. The staff did a great job with check in, maid service, the little gal at the breakfast buffet was really right there take care of all our requests. The front desk was most helpful setting up our return transfer to the Cancun airport. Really a nice quiet spot to relax around the pool and watch the waves wash ashore.

Beach is top notch!

  • sandy beaches
  • May 17, 2012
Basic all inclusive with clean rooms and less variety at the buffet than other large all-inclusives. The main reason to go there is the outstanding beach with snorkeling right out front. We did the ATV tour off site which was fun. But mostly enjoyed snorkeling and relaxing at the resort. Laid back and staff was friendly. Would go back for sure.

Relaxing getaway

  • Trish the Dish
  • May 16, 2012
My experience was awesome! I am 30 and went with a friend. We left our kids at home and were looking for a relaxing, beautiful retreat. We found it! This specific resort is not for the nightlife thrill seeker, however drinks were great and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Many people we talked to had even been there previous years and say they will continue coming back! The only things that could have made this a 5 star resort would be better food (it was so so, not bad but not great) and the beds were hard. Overall, we were so pleased with everything else, that nothing seemed to matter! I will definitley go back, and might even bring the kids!

Great Vacation with some drawbacks

  • Skippy Scuttleberger
  • May 4, 2012
The hotel is situated on one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen. There is a fairly long walk between the beach and the lobby, but you don't feel like it is so bad since you get to walk through the lush jungle to admire the wildlife. The food was average with not too many Mexican options. A la carte restaurants were fair. I would not go back to the steakhouse or the Italian. Mexican was delicious but our service was atrocious that night (2 hours for a three course meal for 2 people). Tapas were the best option and the best alcohol. Our first night they did not have a room for us since they overbooked. However, this should not have happened for us since we prepaid. We were sent to another resort for the night and were upgraded to a suite. We also received massages and access to the wet areas of the spa as compensation. Overall the compensation was adequate, but the issue should not have happened at all.

Perfect beach, disappointing food

  • manyou07
  • Dec 28, 2011
The best part of the hotel was the beach - it doesn't get any better than that! We were there in the beginning of September, and it was probably around half capacity. This was great for us, as we never had a problem grabbing chairs by the pool or a palapa on the beach. The weather was nearly perfect too, raining a little on a couple of days but clearing up in the afternoon. Several other reviewers have described problems they had with the hotel: (1) that there is too much smoke and (2) that the hotel caters to its European clientele. While there was more smoke than we'd prefer, we weren't bothered by it too often. And although many of the guests are European (many Italians and Spaniards) the staff was always helpful and friendly and we never felt like we were being treated differently. The biggest downside for us was the food. It wasn't good. There were buffets for lunch and dinner which were ok (there was always something decent in there) but the themed restaurants (Mexican, Italian, American) left a lot to be desired (especially the Mexican one!). The rooms were clean and nice and the hotel had a very cool atmosphere - the walk from the restaurants past the rooms to the beach was like a jungle, and several different kinds of wildlife could be spotted on each trip. Overall, a great stay.

Laid Back Couples Vacation Spot

  • Blondie
  • Jan 24, 2010
We traveled with another couple and enjoyed this hotel. While we're both younger couples we take pleasure in a relaxing vacation, and this all-inclusive fit the bill. It was couples and family oriented and yet still offered amenities when we wanted to cut loose a little. I was nervous because there were some mixed reviews, but while we experienced some bumps here and there, it wasn't anything that seriously deterred from our overall experience. The two rooms varied, even though we selected the same type of rooms. They had a coffee maker while we didn't. We got a king sized bed, while they got two queens pushed together. The safes in both rooms were broke, so we locked valuables up in suitcases. The most frustrating thing for us was they charged for Wi-Fi, and we had brought laptops intending to communicate with our loved ones. The food was good. Not great, but good. I would recommend the buffet and the pizza at the Italian restaurant. Yum! The restaurants were confusing, as the hours were odd. If you want seats at the restaurants that require reservations be at the front desk at 7:00 a.m., otherwise the spots fill up fast! The employees were helpful. It seemed like we saw the same staff members day and night, so if you got you drink in "Mexican time" at the swim up bar it's because they're overworked. Nevertheless they were friendly and enthusiastic. The reef around the hotel makes for great snorkeling and on windy days, makes for a great wave breaker, meaning our beach was swimmable while the others were out of luck. The concierge was extremely helpful, and went above and beyond when we wanted to make reservations at the dive shop. I'm sure you could have eliminated some of these issues by paying for a higher end all inclusive; however I feel like we got a lot of bang for our buck. The beach was beautiful. The non-motorized water sports made for a great time in the ocean. It was my first time snorkeling and kayaking, and loved both. We met lots of friendly people from all over the world at the swim up bar. Given the opportunity, I would go here again.

most relaxing beach vacation

  • Jan 8, 2010
this is our second time at this hotel. We love it's beach with the torquoize calm water, white sand, and beautiful fish. We love the fact that it's on the smaller side for an all inclusive, therefor short distances to all. We also love the European flair: it draws many Italian tourists. the staff is very nice and helpful(except at the front desk where there is room for improvement) the food is pretty good and their is variety. my only big comment, which i guess is a general probblem in Mexico is that there is no safty code regulations reinforced. staying with two young kids on a waterfront room on the 3rd floor with a balcony that has a couple of ropes for a railing, ment we could barely use the balcony or even leave the door open. there are no smoke detectors in the room or in the corridor. when we were at the beach one of our towels caught fire because the cleaning lady placed it directly on an exposed incandecent light bulb, we came back to a room full of smoke luckily the whole room didn't catch fire. our neighbors later on said they smelled the smoke, and were bothered by it as well. we have toured many other small resorts in the area, and know this is a comon problem, but still would love to see something done about this in the future.

Romantic Getaway in Akumal

  • Experienced Traveler
  • Mar 11, 2011
I really liked how friendly and service oriented the staff was. The beach was beautiful and not crowded; we snorkeled directly from the beach and it was fabulous -- we saw turtles, manta rays, coral and tropical fish. The food at the hotel restaurant was amazing and there were cute little restaurants across the street, too. Great relaxing vacation in a small, no-fuss environment (not a gated community or resort/fortress). The hotel was spotless, bright, charming.

the food is excellent at this resort, the buffet and ala carts exceded our expectations, but the rooms and where we were situated were not the best. the part of the resort where we lived was building 43 ,it looked like it was still under development, because the landscaping was not pretty at all, very bare, with no palm trees, and dirt. Did encounter a very rude customer servise manager named Guliamme, this person should not hold the position of a manager. The beach was great, the private section always had lounge chairs, so overall it was a good and relaxing stay.

We loved this new hotel very much. The food was great at the buffet. My kids tried other restaurants and did not want to go there just buffet. The beach is great at Akumal hotel, very safe for the kids. The only inconvenience is the wait time for the shuttle. It's like you are at the bus station all the time. Overall, we had great vacation, no complaints.
