A small hotel, portuguese style

  • Anonymous
  • Aug 27, 2009
A small hotel, portuguese style with in-built chapel. Clean and practical. Standard room has tea coffee making facilities, free internet cable, smallish Tv but functional. Though the location is not exactly central, Nagasaki is a small town and therefore easy to get around with the trams. No room service, not many restaurants around the area for supper so bring your own or head to the nearby convenience store where you can get snacks or amenities. Overall a pretty good stay.

The hotel staff was most helpful. Their English was by far better than my Japanese but still somewhat limited. We went to the Peace Park and the Atomic Bomb museum and the next day took the train into Sasebo. Hotel is a bit far from the main part of town and the Peace Park etc. but still easily reached by tram. Nice rooms, comfortable, a bit small but how much time are you in the room anyway? Very nice breakfast buffet (a bit on the pricey side) but we only seemed to eat 2 meals a day anyway so when you average it out not that expensive. SB from CA stayed March 18 and March 19, 2010.

Description
Nagasaki has the most varied history of any city in Japan and is now a busy and modern city but its unfortunate past as the second atomic bomb target obscures its early European settlers history and subsequent importance. Still very much an international city and visitors can enjoy the city and surrounding areas with this hotel as a convenient access base. (1208NN) It is a small brick building that looks like an old European guest house with a red colored roof. The hotel is located in the close place to Glover Mansion and it is approximately 8 minutes drive from Nagasaki Station.

Nice hotel, very good location,

Nice hotel, very good location, though from the photo you'd expect an even better view, which is however partly obstructed by other buildings in front of the hotel, even from the top floor rooms (without balcony!). A bit pricey, but rooms are large for Japan, and with a nice quasi-colonial feel/design. Shows some wear and tear in places, though. And the alleged swimming pool was nowhere to be found. Breakfast (not included) is overpriced and very far from worth it. Wouldn't use the restaurant - one of the classic places to eat in Nagasaki (for champon) is just 2 min walk away, and this does overlook the bay too. Hotel location also good for Glover Park, and a tram stop for going to the station and/or Peace Park is close by.

The Washington hotel is literally

  • Anonymous
  • Jun 25, 2009
The Washington hotel is literally located right next to Nagasaki China town, about 2km from Nagasaki Station and less than half a kilometre from the port area where there are ferries, department stores and food. Not far away is a cheap homewares department store where you can get just about anything. The Chinatown food choices are great where you try the local specialities. The room was quite clean. The bathroom was okay but the tiles looked a bit cracked and old and showing its age. The room size was reasonable for a single. Not all the Hotel information was in English so setting up the internet was a bit confusing and misleading. The LAN cable was hidden behind the TV and the Hotel staff did not speak much English. Staff were not as friendly and polite as in Hotels in Osaka and Tokyo but they were okay. The room was clean, okay and central to a lot of attractions. Lack of English signage and inhouse literature could be a lot better for Foreign tourists.
