This hotel was amazing. Less then a block away from a subway station and 10 minutes from the Kyoto Station via subway this hotel is situated perfectly if want to walk and visit shrines, temples, shops, or find a bite to eat. The room itself was very spacious, clean, and included everything we needed for our stay. I would return to the Hotel Monterey Kyoto in a heartbeat.

Excellent location directly opposite the Kyoto Station. Rooms are compact but well equipped (Main building Premium floor). Quick check-in. Did not eat in-house as there are so many other options nearby. Very quiet room despite being located in such a busy area. CNN in English free to room. Would stay here again.

very well located hotel, next to Kyoto train station. Makes life very easy for all sigthseeings. Many options for food and shopping just accross the road. Rooms are small as everywhere in Jp, but confortable enough with fridge, tea making and a small table with 2 chairs. Everything is good, apart from Internet access. They do not have wireless, although they have cable in the room. Not sure if it is free or not. They have only 2 computers in business center and costs Y100 per 10 min. I do recommend this hotel to anyone.

Hotel was easy to get to near
-
Anonymous
- Apr 16, 2011
Hotel was easy to get to near a subway stop. Also it's not a far walk from the Teramachi shopping arcade. The room was larger than most other double rooms I've stayed at in Japan. Free internet in the room was useful. The decoration was dated, and the bed was a little bit hard and springy -- not like the very soft mattresses that many places now use. Unfortunately the lobby smells like an ashtray because they allow smoking in the lobby, but I never stayed in the lobby more than 2 minutes so it wasn't a big problem. Overall, it was a good deal with a location convenient for the subway, but not right in the action.

You can't beat the location in terms of access to things outside of Kyoto. Even for the city itself, it is not bad, but there could be nicer parts of town to stay in. Still, it was the nicest we could afford and didn't leave us wanting. The Superior King room had a good view, was spacious, and had one of the best beds I ever slept in. Excellent staff, and we ordered expensive but delicious room service breakfast once. A fun experience. I would definitely consider the Granvia again.

While this place is technically a "ryokan" it has none of the warm hospitality usually associated with such establishments. The welcome and local knowledge
-
Isabel
- Feb 13, 2011
The welcome and local knowledge provided by Hiro was superb. The experience was great. As well as the convenience store across the road there is also a larger local shop around the corner and with a little exploring many other shops. Would definitely stay again and would recommend for longer stays. The Tofukugi shrines in the area are also worth visiting.Close to the road but traffic is quiet during sleep periods and did not present a problem.
PS with The JR Pass the one stop from Kyoto Central is no problem.

Excellent hotel, très moderne
-
Anonymous
- Oct 5, 2010

Best hotel in Kyoto that I had ever stayed!

I recently stayed in Brighton for my business trip. I just loved everything about the hotel, not to say how clean and specious the room was (especially for the Japanese standard!), friendliness and helpfulness of the hotel staff was beyond my expectations. The only downsize was that the hotel is far from the downtown area where action happens. There is a hotel shuttle that you can take to the business district, however, and you can find many restaurants there. I will definitely stay there again!

We loved it. The hotel is beautiful, our room was perfect (and overlooked a temple). The only negative is that it is a little out of the way (you have to take a bus from Kyoto station or walk for 20 minutes).

Reception staff patchy in quality

Reception staff patchy in quality of service provided - some are truly outstanding while others clearly require more training. Shuttle bus service from hotel to and from Kyoto Station, and willingness to drop passengers off at locations along the way is very helpful. Internet cafe was out of order, which was a bit disappointing, though free internet connection is available in room. I'd recommend this hotel overall.

Outstanding as usual. Great location for walking to temples, Gion, etc. Wonderful staff. Please note that the business office has three computers and is not staffed; best to take your own computer, or not plan to use the computer.
