Aruba Beach Bum

It's a very good stay for the money. We had an ocean front room. A very short walk to the beach. The food in the main dining room is very good as it has a variety of choices. But the food at the seafood restaurant, a short walk from our room, is not up to par. As a matter of fact, it's aweful to say the least. The only complain that we have is the lack of a shuttle bus by the hotel to take people to and from the airport.

Hotel was fine--the 3 star rating fits as we have also stayed in 5 star hotels.. We had no problems or issues and it was worth the money. Hint: The excursions always take longer than they say. Add 1-2 hours to the return time specified. We liked the fact that it was close to the airport.

This was an upgrade to a hotel we stayed at in Negril! Hotel lobby and dining room is beautiful with a great view of the water. Room amenities were pretty basic but had a great view of the resort grounds. Entertainment staff was excellent - always encouraging you to participate in afternoon beach activities and dance on stage with them during evening shows.

This is my 4th stay at Royal Decameron (Jack Tar Village for the old timers). Pretty good all inclusive hotel.
Room cleanliness is great. Room was well prepared and kept very clean and fresh smelling for my entire 10 day trip. Rooms are very spacious. Color scheme of room might bother some people. My room was a soothing lavender, but spoke to another guest and their room was a disturbing orange. So just something to consider.
Food was ok. In some cases, for my taste, not a lot of selection. But the fruit and salad bar was always adequate.
I am not a big drinker, but remember this is a 3 star hotel so do not expect top shelf drinks. Only basic house alcohol. I think top shelf can be had at an additional price. In any case, the convenient location of the hotel, puts stores and supermarkets, just a block outside of the front gate. So that is very easy.
Nightly entertainment was great. Kudos to the entertainment staff. Well planned and executed.
I would definitely return to this hotel.
Many many return guests due to its family like atmosphere.

Our experience at the Secrets St. James was wonderful. We went to have a few days away from our hectic lives at home and had a very relaxing time. The hotel is beautiful inside and out. The service was good and it was just the atmosphere we were looking for. The only negative comment I have is that the food is not good. It is edible, but it tastes like it all comes out of a can or was frozen. We only stayed 3 nights, so it didn't bother us that much. Overall, we had a wonderful time and would go back.

Nice hotel. Rooms are a little old. Beds are relatively hard. Internet is clumsy: have to buy a 60 minute pass from the desk and the wireless only works in the main lobby, bar and poolside. The indoor locations are dimly lit. Not that suited for business travel. More for the traveller who wants to stay close to the action in a central location. Not much parking but convenient.

Fantastic hotel! Few things that kind of bothered me about it though. 1) Staff did not inform us about where to eat, what was open, location of restaurants, type of food at restaurants, etc. Its like they thought we knew everything about the place when we got there. 2) Beds and pillows are not that soft. But you can pay extra for a softer pillow. 3) If you do not like walking this may not be the place for you. Its the largest resort in Jamaica and depending on what room they put you in, you may have to walk a lot to get around.

the trip was fantastic from start to finish with a few exceptions. first the pump for our section of our villa stopped working causing sewage to back up in the shower, however this was remedied quickly we got new rooms. second the food wasnt terrible but could be better. overall my wife and I are planning on returning within the next few months. the staff was wonderful friendly and go out of their way to help in any way. the people who said you have to tip are nuts although we tipped probably to excess she is a hairdresser and i am a bartender no ONE EVER had their hands out expecting a tip

Booked this resort last minute due to having very bad experience in Negril. Spent my last two nights of a week long stay in Jamaica and found it to be perfect. Wish I would have booked this place originally for the whole week. Doctors Cave Beach is easy to get to and very nice. The pool was not crowded and very comfortable. The breakfast is made to order with option of American style or Jamaican style. I recommend the Jamaican style--very good! The rooms are more like apartments and not like hotel rooms at all.

Its not a hotel for those looking for top notch amenties. Its great for a season carribean traveler who wants more of a native touch w/ security. There is a full kitchen in every suite. The beach is right across the road which u get a free pass. (Saving of $6 pp). The "bottom road" is where all the tourist stuff and clubs/bars are. You are right there at this hotel. You get a free breakfast which is more of a "typical jamaican" breakfast. (I liked it). They try with the "american" breakast. Lol. Customer Service is on point! If u don't like something just ask for it to be changed.

The hotel was beautiful, the pools were great, the staff was friendly, the beaches were sandy and the water was rock free and the seaweed was kept to a minimum. The food was the best food I've had at an all-inclusive resort, so many great options in the buffet! The specialty restaurants were just as good (if not a little better than the buffet) but depending on how hot it was at dinner time, I would have been happy to stay in shorts and dine at the buffet rather than put long pants on.
The only down side to our stay is that my fiancé’s brand new iPhone 5 was stolen out of our room. We're not sure if someone keyed in to steal it or if we left the door open when we left the room. The doors don't close behind you when you enter or exit the room, if we did leave the door open it could have been a guest and not staff.

This was my 2nd stay at Coyaba! I take vacations to relax with peace and Quiet! Exactly what you can do at Coyaba. It's a small resort with a private beach! The staff is laid back, but very professional! The rooms are very comfortable and clean. My only complaint the Quality of the food didn't make up for the price of the food. I will absolutely stay with Coyaba again, just hope the cook has moved on by the time i return!

Beside missing our flight and having to pay extra. We had a great trip. The hotel was clean. The staff was nice. Tipping wasnt required. You can tell when you go to a resort where it is accepted and where its not. They were nice just not over the top. It has its ups and downs. The drinks were always good. We asked for a king bed and it was two double pushed together. Not very romantic. Beach was nice. Ocean not a hugh fan. Lots of seaweed. Husband says I was being a big baby about it. LOL Wish they had more of a selection for the after hours food. Buffet style food. Not bad but have had better. Did try the specialty resturants. For a short getaway. It was very nice. Also it is very close to the airport and you hear the planes. Didnt bother us but lots of people were complaining.

Beautiful Beaches, Beautoful People...

Half Moon is a lovely hotel/resort. My husband and I just got back from a quick 3 day trip to get some sunshine and it was the perfect spot. 10 minutes from the airport in Montego Bay, a phenomenal staff that goes out of their way to accommodate, and beautiful beaches to relax and enjoy. I would recommend requesting a room in one of the beachfront cottages which we did not do when booking initially. We were scheduled at the Oleander cottages which were a bit away from the beach. Luckily the front desk switched us upon checking in and we wound up right on the beach. Also - the resort is HUGE with tons of tennis courts, a golf course and much more. I guess this is why it is so expensive. My husband and I were only going for the beach so didnt use any of the amenities. The food was decent but again, meals are extremely expensive. Expect to spend $80-$100 on breakfast and lunches. And $200 plus on dinners. Maybe a meal plan would have been the smarter route. But all in all, a great escape from the cold and noise of NYC! I'd recommend it to anyone.

Luxurious: beautiful location and a Jamaican welcome

If you can afford it, go for it; you won't be disappointed. The private beach is breathtaking, the grounds are well kept, the rooms are extremely comfortable and... well, you probably won't want to go home at the end of your stay.
If you're like me and enjoy cycling, they have bike hire so grab one to get between main dining area and the shops/living quarters to the east. If you don't want to be jumping in the shower every other hour then hire a golf buggy instead.
The hotel's eco credentials seemed to live up to expectations: they encourage recycling and the housemaid actually left my towel on the hanger as I requested, which has never happened in any hotel before! The golf buggies are battery powered so guests who hire them can leave charging outside their rooms; and most of the time when you need a bellman to take you somewhere you get a ride on one of these (tips are accepted).
I did dine at the main restaurant a couple of times. It was a bit expensive by my budget but still tasty. They have local fare (fish, lobster) and veg from their own garden. If you have fancy dining tastes you'll be in your element here.
The in-complex shopping area is large and well styled. It was reasonably quiet (I went out of peak season) but there was still a friendly welcome at the bar (refreshing pint of Guinness), supermarket (bananas, home made muffins, locally made peanut bars) and adjoining coffee house (cappuccino and freshly made double turkey sandwich).
Due to work (and jet-lag) I didn't have time to explore the area or take advantage of any trips during the day but they have a tour agency rep next to reception if you need inspiration.

My family of four - including daughters aged 16 & 13 - absolutely loved Sunset Beach Resort! From the moment we arrived we were greeted with big smiles from all of the staff and welcomed immediately with a cold beverage. We arrived early (before 2:00pm) and check-in was quick and simple. Coswayne (the bell man with a great personality) took us to our rooms with no wait, walking us by all the important areas we needed to see with a quick tour. Within 15 minutes of arriving at the resort, we were on the beach, snorkeling and finding some of the most amazing starfish, urchins, etc. in the crystal clear water. We quickly found the beach bar (our favorite bar and bartender - Alarecia!). There were more than enough lounge chairs (operational!) on the beach so we never had to fight for one. Also, Sunset Beach provides beach towels (that are in fine shape) so that was a plus. The main pavilion was huge and open with a constant breeze and wonderful tropical atmosphere. The buffet was good at every meal offering so many options there would be no way to try them all. The sous chefs at breakfast were amazing - handling six omelets at a time with perfection (definitely try the hot sauce in your omelet!). The grill served the absolute best jerk chicken I've ever eaten. We also tried two of the a-la-carte restaurants - La Bella Vita and Byrons - both of which were excellent - food and service. The resort offered a lot of entertainment options and had a great house band that played each night with additional performers regularly for variety. The steel drum band performance was my family's favorite. They played mostly current popular songs, all with a great island flair and fun choreography. It was infectious. Everyone at the resort was easy to work with and with a quick "No Problem" were able to sort out any issue with a smile. The bars were plentiful and always made a great drink - very healthy pours! The only minor complaint we had were in regards to the large water craft - two were "available" but neither were in working order during any part of the week. (I think they just sit the Sunfisher and Hobi Cat sail boats on the beach for looks...) However they did have kayaks and paddle boats that were operable. It was also unusual that the A/C in our rooms was turned down to 60 degrees when we arrived - talk about freezing! (of course, a "no problem" and an extra blanket took care of that right away!) Our rooms were in the East side of the Beach Wing which was very quiet. The grounds were lush and well manicured. We all enjoyed the water slides (definitely the most crowded of the pools) and the swim up bar. We took advantage of the spa services - massages & mani/pedis - and Sharon did a wonderful job on both. We did a day shopping trip in Mo Bay and another day trip to Negril & Rick's Cafe - very worth doing. We hired a driver for both - Everton McPherson - who was not only a great driver (DON'T even think of renting a car in Jamaica unless you have a death wish!) but he had such a great personality and showed us so much more than we would have seen had we taken a "tour". We all agreed that it was the best vacation ever and we would DEFINITELY return to the Sunset Beach Resort!

Good value for the price. The setting was great and the food was average to good depending on the day. The staff was friendly, but we did tip well. The room was average, but we were in villa 26 and nice and close to everything on the Lady Hamilton side. The pool was huge and the beaches were great with plenty of room for everyone.

We enjoyed our stay. This was our third time to the hotel so we definitly like it. We have noticed the staff seems to be a bit more pushy as in trying to get you to sign up to their club etc and this was frustrating. The hotel needs a bit more mantinance in the rooms themselves. The food was good. And the beaches are very nice. After the third time we may be look some where else the next time reggae vibes and the jamaica sun calls us again.

I think the only ones who didn't know that Sandals is for couples were us and these two other girls. Don't eat at the buffets if possible. The food is reheated day after day. The food at the restaurants is quite good, but you need to make reservations in advance. Staff is friendly.

This hotel is in the city only a short walk away from some shops, bars and a craft market. The public beach across from the hotel is small, but clean and not crowded. The downside of small hotel was that there were fewer eating and activities options. However, there is an hourly shuttle to the larger Sandals, which has more restaurants, activities and other stuff that's included. We liked the smaller cozier feel of our hotel. By the way, it looks nothing like the picture.

Great Honeymoon... After the first night
- TXcourtney04
- Jun 2, 2011
We had a wonderful honeymoon at Sandals RC. The staff was friendly, the activities were fun, and the food was better than most AI's that I've stayed at.
The only issue we had was that we had to do a little arguing for our room. We booked through a travel agent and requested that whatever she booked us put us in a BEACHFRONT room. No garden-view, ocean-view (that usually means partial) or anything else that didn't provide us with a 180 degree view of beach and water.
We arrived on a Monday (which I think was part of the issue since most honeymooners arrive on Sunday) to a very friendly front desk. When they gave us some papers to sign and fill out, I noticed that the place on the sheet where the room number was entered had been whited-out and a new number was handwritten in it's place. We were then shown to our room.
My personal theory is that the room we were supposed to have must have been given away the day prior (hence the white out on the sheet) because the room we were shown to was simply terrible. We paid a lot of money for a "beach front luxury" room and this first floor room was in the back corner of the building, furthest from the beach, had a bathroom infested with mosquitoes, no fridge or minibar, a tree directly in front of it, and a few feet beyond that, shrubs that blocked any view of sand or water. When I expressed my disappointment, the bellman told us there were no other rooms available, but that he would inform the Front Desk and get back to us. We waited a few hours and they never did. Now, this is when I appreciate having a travel agent. After no response from the front desk, we contacted the travel agent, and a few distressed overseas phone calls later, we were contacted by the front desk and told that we would be shown some options the next morning! I have never heard of this. So, either GOOD JOB TRAVEL AGENT, or GREAT CUSTOMER SVC. SANDALS or both!
We had a beautiful room right in front of the volleyball courts on the beach, fully stocked minibar, and liquor in the room. After that debacle, we had the most wonderful time. The staff couldn't have been friendlier. By the end, most of them probably knew my name and DEFINITELY knew my husbands name. The resort even offers you the opportunity to scuba dive as a beginner, which we did.
Moral of the story: Amazing place. I would definitely recommend it. Just remember that if you arrive on an off day, make sure to double check your room category. :)

If you're looking to go just as a couple instead of as part of a group, this is the hotel for you. If you want to party in a group, go to Sandals Montego Bay. This hotel is very romantic, and the staff bends over backwards to accommodate any request you have. The beach was raked throughout the day; the water was clean, calm, and clear. Food was excellent with lots of choices each day and night. Separate pools in different areas of the resort allowed for a quieter pool experience. The staff treated everyone like kings and queens.

The Best!!
- Feb 19, 2011
We have stayed at many hotels in Jamaica. This was by far the best. We went to relax and enjoy the beautiful weather and scenery. Half Moon did not disappoint. We were upgraded to a studio right on the beach. Double doors opened to a patio about 10 feet away from the ocean. The bathroom was large with a beautiful tub and stand up shower. Extremely clean and the staff was polite and courteaous. There was so much to do, from swimming with the dolphins to using bikes to ride around the 400 acre site. There were so many beaches that we felt like we had it all to ourselves.
