Venice Hotels

A deceivingly large city, Venice consists of a group of boroughs. The most famous is the area comprising the 118 islands in the main districts that are called "Sestieri." The Most Serene Republic of Venice dates back to 827, when a Byzantine Duke moved its seat to what is now known as the Rialto.

Venice is a pedestrian city, and the absence of cars makes walking a uniquely pleasant experience. The Rialtine islands - the 'main' part of Venice - are small enough to walk from one end to the other in about an hour. For a change of pace, ride a vaporetto (water bus) down the Grand Canal right before sunset. The vaporettos can be expensive, but the sights are priceless: amazing architecture, soft seaside sunlight, and a fascinating parade of Venetian watercraft. For a more luxurious Venetian experience, take a Gondola.  The Gondoliere may decrease the price if you ask but make sure you reach an agreement on price and time before you embark.

Spend a day on the islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello. There are boat services to all these islands at scheduled times, including between the islands themselves. Be prepared for long lines and long waits for the boats between islands. While exploring Venice bask in the city’s historic ambiance. Walk through the alley ways, hop on a water taxi, people watch on a plaza. In addition to the museums scattered across the islands, many churches allow tourists to enter free of charge.

The location of Ca' del campo is hard to beat, as it's close to the main venice tourist spots but at the same time, located in a quiet street. The room i stay, a superior double, had some period features, and I couldn't ask for more in terms of comfort and cleanliness. Breakfast was ok, but would benefit of fresh fruit and natural juices. The young gentleman in main reception was very nice and would always receive you with a smile in your face. But an older gentleman lacked comunication skills, specially on checkout, as didn't even said thank you or goodbye or even hope to see you soon.

Alles in allem zufrieden

  • fbergann
  • Aug 19, 2012
Vorteile: Klimatisierte Zimmer, bei 4-Tage Aufenthalt zwischendurch einmal neue Bettwäsche bekommen, jeden Tag neue Handtücher, Sauberkeit der Zimmer ok. Nachteile: Frühstücksbuffet etwas dürftig,z.B. kein Frühstücksei oder Rührei oder keine Gurken-bzw.Tomatenscheiben.

Very pleased with every aspect. Hotel staff were efficient, friendly and very helpful. Location was great as only 10 mins walk from San Marco and rooms were well equipped and very clean. We booked a few trips before we arrived which was as we had to make the most of a couple of days. Entrance tickets for Doges Palace also included entry into various other museums which proved invaluable to escape the intense heat or rain for an hour or so.

Checked online for prices, decided to call the hotel and compare- this site was cheaper by almost 50%, which was cool. The hotel itself is located in a very easy place to find, which is perfect for the first time Venice traveller (especially if you are bringing luggage or arriving late). The staff was very competent, spoke many languages, and had good dining advice. My only complaint would be that the bed was two separate mattresses, and I like to snuggle next to my husband.

Description
The Boscolo Venezia, Autograph Collection, housed in the old and prestigious Rizzo-Patarol noble palace, is an excellent location for completely immersing yourself in the enchanting atmosphere of Venice. The hotel's XVII-century façade has a portal and loggia on overlapping levels and is hidden a secret garden, the only one to be found in a hotel in Venice, which is perfectly preserved and faces onto the lagoon. The Boscolo Venezia, Autograph Collection combines contemporary comfort with the ‘period luxury’ of the precious marble, splendid frescoes and Majestic chandeliers. Located in Sestiere Cannaregio, it is close to the center but at arm’s length from the more crowded thoroughfares, and thus shows the true face of Venice and its inhabitants.

Darling Little Hotel

  • The three J's
  • Aug 6, 2009
We spent 2 nights at this cute little hotel, which is very well situated - about a 10 minute walk from San Marcos in one direction and the Rialto Bridge in the other. The hotel was very clean and the staff was extremely nice. The room we had was a triple, and we were very comfortable, but I must admit that the room was pretty small with the third bed in it. (But who spends much time in the room when they can be out exploring Venice?) Breakfast was very good - bread, cheeses, cereal, yogurt, fruit, etc. but no hot food. We loved it!

Staff was great, let us check in early...picked us up at the cuise terminal, shuttles if you need them to and from the cruise port, Venice, and the airport. We took the bus to Venice everyday.. #5 bus few blocks away straight shot to the mail bus and train terminal at the Grand Canal. 5 min ride to the airport in the morning. I would stay there again. Rooms were clean, a bit sterile in decor but not complaining, free breakfast in the morning was more than enough to choose from...

The apartment was in a great location close to Rialto bridge and San Marco square. Gondolas would pass by your window all day, though it was still quiet and relaxing. Staff was very nice and spoke english, they brought breakfast during cleaning. Breakfast would include milk, juice, prosciutto, cookies, jam filled croissants, bread, nutella, and bread. Wifi was also very fast and we were able to show video chat with our family back home so they can see the gondolas.

Great location and value for the price

  • May 28, 2012
We only spent a night and the only issue with the location is that the nigh life is pretty much dead in the San Marco area. However, during the day, it just doesn't get any better. It's only about a 50 feet walk to San Marco's square. The room was basic, old venetian style and the bathroom quite clean and pretty modern. We got a room with a balcony overlooking one of the canals which was really cool. The staff was helpful and quick on check-in check-out.

Very Good Hotel

  • phils
  • Mar 27, 2011
The hotel location was ideal, as it is away from the hustle of St Marks but near enough to get to all locations. Our room (which I think was a standard room?)was very well appointed and the service from hotel staff was impecable. Our only gripe was with Venice as a whole, and that is the feeling of being totaly ripped off. Whoever we spoke to, said they felt the same - yes, you expect as tourists to pay higher prices in such a great city but Venice seems to be doing its best to ensure many will not return. I know from other reviews that the hotel charges more for drinks, being a 5 star, but 20 Euro for 2 glasses of wine (house) is a bit steep by most standards! (Dread to think what a meal in their highly recommnded restaurant would have cost - didn't risk it after the wine). You can find eateries that are off the beaten track who charge a bit less but the least amount I paid for a small beer and glass of Coke was 9 euro. Fabulous place, glad we went but probably not likely to return - would recommend the hotel though.

The good and bad.

This was our second trip to Venice in ten years, and first with children. Previously we have stayed in less touristy areas, but thought a grand palazzo on the canal would be fun and special. It was and it wasn't, whereas our stay with Helvetia & Bristol in Florence was wholly special. First, if you go, be certain to frequent the hotel's second floor. It's like a museum. We were not informed about it until our last day, so it didn't factor into our stay. It is, though, amazing. As I suspect the rooms immediately overlooking the canal are amazing. Our suite, by contrast, had no window of decent size. We did nicely have steps up to the roof top, with sole access to own roof top dining table. That was lovely. Our room itself was rather a drywall rectangle, with harsh white paint and underwhelming fake moulding. Finally, and perhaps most significant to me, the staff lacked any sense of hospitality. In part due, I think, to the set back nature of their desk, and in part, their personal style. We never interacted with them other than most cursorarily upon arrival. This stood in stark contrast to our hotels in Florence and Verona, where people knew our surname and chatted. The immediate neighborhood, too, is high tourist, as opposed to elegant shops. So, we would not likely stay here again, unless we went full stop and booked a room directly canal side (with attendant pricing).

Description
The great fascination of the Metropole is the result of many factors: unique atmosphere, halls enriched with period furniture, an impressive antiques collection in the Gallery, and uniquely elegant rooms and suites, all full of personality and generously equipped with original furniture, including antique bed canopies and rare Art Deco pieces. Rooms are pervaded by a mysterious and somewhat oriental allure, with burning incense spreading a delicate fragrance. Service is prompt and elegant. The picture is completed by a splendid Citrus Garden with exotic palms and a sixteenth century well, the perfect backdrop for your evening meal. AN ATMOSPHERE that is suggestive and seductive, is created by means of a profusion of perfumed candles and subtle incenses. PRECIOUS FABRICS of different periods and of great beauty decorate the hotel's salons and every bedroom, contributing the Metropole's unique style.. Being my second visit I knew it was a very high standard with a perfect location since a colleague whom lives on the Lido recommended the hotel first time around. A cheaper and simpler breakfast would have been good, the one offering at 28 Euro is over the top when all you want is Coffee, Cornflakes and a Ham Roll to start the day.Not everyone wants an American style spread.

We stayed in the Olimpia after our cruise, and it was really quick and easy to get there. A quick ride on the People Mover (1 Euro) brought us right to the plaza that led to the Olimpia. One short bridge and half a block later, and we were there. The rooms were surprisingly large, very clean and very cute. Crossing a couple more bridges led to another popular dining and shopping area. Even though we were so close to a plaza, the hotel was quiet at night and served a great breakfast. The taxis/buses to the airport were in the same plaza, and so it was easy to depart as well.

Location of hotel is outstanding - right off of the main square (St. Marks, Basilica, Doge's Palace) and within easy walking distance of Rialto Bridge and multiple water transportation options. Only downside to hotel was street noise (pedestrians and revelers) that extended well into the night. A higher floor (we were on the first floor) might mitigate this negative. All in all - WELL worth the money. [...]

We booked late for a one night

  • lisa
  • Oct 4, 2010
We booked late for a one night weekend stay and got the last room. The room was small but good and faced the internal garden on the first floor. The location suited us, a ten minute walk from Santa Lucia train station on a peaceful canal with a gondola waiting outside. There were plenty of places to eat and shop on the street and nearby. Piazza Sn Marco was a 40 minute walk but it was good to come back to the calm of the San Croce area for dinner. The hotel has several spacious lounge areas for relaxation. The room was clean, in good condition with a modern bathroom and quiet. The continental breakfast included cold cuts. The manager and staff were helpful with information and storage of luggage before check in and after checkout. The latter was important as it meant we could extend our last day before catching the train. Negatives- the internet is expensive. In summary, this hotel is good value for Venice and we would happily recommend to friends and stay again

All the staff have wide experience in hotel business and speak English, German, French and Spanish and will guarantee you an unforgettable holiday. The word "armizo" in the old Venetian language, means "mooring". The hotel is in fact, in campo San Silvestro, one of the most beautiful and characteristic piazzas of Venice, only two minutes from the Rialto Bridge and only a few steps away from the Gran Canal, where in ancient times ships used to moor in order to unload their merchandise from all over the world for selling at the Rialto Market. Check in available at Ca' Art of Locanda Armizo First Class Inn, located in San Marco 2900, within walking distance.A tax has been imposed by the city for stays beginning 1 October 2012, and will be collected directly at the property. The tax ranges from EUR 1 to EUR 5 per person, per night. The amount has been determined by the local administration, depends on the star rating of hotel and the season of travel. This tax does not apply from the 6th consecutive night of stay onwards, to residents of Venice City and children under 10 years of age. Please note that further exemptions may apply. For additional details on this tax please check with the hotel property at check-in.

the hotel is just off a nice quiet piazza down a little alley away from All the hustle and bustle of tourists yet only a quick 5min walk to st marks square. The hotel and rooms are well kept and the breakfast is well stocked with typical european fare. Only drawback is the coffee is by machine, not through the traditional press. Overall a good experience for my first time to Venezia. I will remember this hotel for my next visit.

Helpful staff, the first room was too small so they upgraded us to as front view room for an extra charge of $40 a night. Excellent breakfast. The only complain I have was that the T.V. didn't work.

Spotless, beautiful, quaint with an outstanding staff!!! Location is fantastic as close to the train station and away from the crowded tourist area. Right on the canal. Serves a lovely breakfast with linen tablecloths. We stayed in the Cassanova room decorated in the 18th century period yet modern amenities such as flat screen tv, mini bar, wi-fi, great air conditioning and modern facilities in the bathroom. Would highly recommend!!!

Description
Domina Home Ca'Zusto, rising in the heart of the city in the Santa Croce District just a short distance from Canal Grande, is a unique structure that has preserved the striking features of the ancient, noble and sophisticated Gothic Palace. The hotel furnishings are the creation of designer Gianmarco Cavagnino who has made it a place of excitement and surprises that is strongly bound to the past. It is an alternative for Venice: an exciting and unexpected house with the colours, decorations and atmosphere of the Venetian-Byzantine tradition in a domestic but international context, which recalls Venice in the 14th century. The hotel also provides free breakfast to its guests.A tax has been imposed by the city for stays beginning 1 October 2012, and will be collected directly at the property. gutes Hotel für kleinen Preis

  • qu4dr1f0glio
  • Aug 19, 2012
