Venice Hotels

A deceivingly large city, Venice consists of a group of boroughs. The most famous is the area comprising the 118 islands in the main districts that are called "Sestieri." The Most Serene Republic of Venice dates back to 827, when a Byzantine Duke moved its seat to what is now known as the Rialto.

Venice is a pedestrian city, and the absence of cars makes walking a uniquely pleasant experience. The Rialtine islands - the 'main' part of Venice - are small enough to walk from one end to the other in about an hour. For a change of pace, ride a vaporetto (water bus) down the Grand Canal right before sunset. The vaporettos can be expensive, but the sights are priceless: amazing architecture, soft seaside sunlight, and a fascinating parade of Venetian watercraft. For a more luxurious Venetian experience, take a Gondola.  The Gondoliere may decrease the price if you ask but make sure you reach an agreement on price and time before you embark.

Spend a day on the islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello. There are boat services to all these islands at scheduled times, including between the islands themselves. Be prepared for long lines and long waits for the boats between islands. While exploring Venice bask in the city’s historic ambiance. Walk through the alley ways, hop on a water taxi, people watch on a plaza. In addition to the museums scattered across the islands, many churches allow tourists to enter free of charge.

Description
The Boscolo Venezia, Autograph Collection, housed in the old and prestigious Rizzo-Patarol noble palace, is an excellent location for completely immersing yourself in the enchanting atmosphere of Venice. The hotel's XVII-century façade has a portal and loggia on overlapping levels and is hidden a secret garden, the only one to be found in a hotel in Venice, which is perfectly preserved and faces onto the lagoon. The Boscolo Venezia, Autograph Collection combines contemporary comfort with the ‘period luxury’ of the precious marble, splendid frescoes and Majestic chandeliers. Located in Sestiere Cannaregio, it is close to the center but at arm’s length from the more crowded thoroughfares, and thus shows the true face of Venice and its inhabitants.

Very Good Hotel

  • Mar 27, 2011
The hotel location was ideal, as it is away from the hustle of St Marks but near enough to get to all locations. Our room (which I think was a standard room?)was very well appointed and the service from hotel staff was impecable. Our only gripe was with Venice as a whole, and that is the feeling of being totaly ripped off. Whoever we spoke to, said they felt the same - yes, you expect as tourists to pay higher prices in such a great city but Venice seems to be doing its best to ensure many will not return. I know from other reviews that the hotel charges more for drinks, being a 5 star, but 20 Euro for 2 glasses of wine (house) is a bit steep by most standards! (Dread to think what a meal in their highly recommnded restaurant would have cost - didn't risk it after the wine). You can find eateries that are off the beaten track who charge a bit less but the least amount I paid for a small beer and glass of Coke was 9 euro. Fabulous place, glad we went but probably not likely to return - would recommend the hotel though.

This was our second trip to Venice in ten years, and first with children. Previously we have stayed in less touristy areas, but thought a grand palazzo on the canal would be fun and special. It was and it wasn't, whereas our stay with Helvetia & Bristol in Florence was wholly special. First, if you go, be certain to frequent the hotel's second floor. It's like a museum. We were not informed about it until our last day, so it didn't factor into our stay. It is, though, amazing. As I suspect the rooms immediately overlooking the canal are amazing. Our suite, by contrast, had no window of decent size. We did nicely have steps up to the roof top, with sole access to own roof top dining table. That was lovely. Our room itself was rather a drywall rectangle, with harsh white paint and underwhelming fake moulding. Finally, and perhaps most significant to me, the staff lacked any sense of hospitality. In part due, I think, to the set back nature of their desk, and in part, their personal style. We never interacted with them other than most cursorarily upon arrival. This stood in stark contrast to our hotels in Florence and Verona, where people knew our surname and chatted. The immediate neighborhood, too, is high tourist, as opposed to elegant shops. So, we would not likely stay here again, unless we went full stop and booked a room directly canal side (with attendant pricing).

Description
The great fascination of the Metropole is the result of many factors: unique atmosphere, halls enriched with period furniture, an impressive antiques collection in the Gallery, and uniquely elegant rooms and suites, all full of personality and generously equipped with original furniture, including antique bed canopies and rare Art Deco pieces. Rooms are pervaded by a mysterious and somewhat oriental allure, with burning incense spreading a delicate fragrance. Service is prompt and elegant. The picture is completed by a splendid Citrus Garden with exotic palms and a sixteenth century well, the perfect backdrop for your evening meal. AN ATMOSPHERE that is suggestive and seductive, is created by means of a profusion of perfumed candles and subtle incenses. PRECIOUS FABRICS of different periods and of great beauty decorate the hotel's salons and every bedroom, contributing the Metropole's unique style.. The hotel also offers Dry cleaning, Lobby, Reception and Smoke-free hotel.A tax has been imposed by the city for stays beginning 1 October 2012, and will be collected directly at the property. Being my second visit I knew it was a very high standard with a perfect location since a colleague whom lives on the Lido recommended the hotel first time around. A cheaper and simpler breakfast would have been good, the one offering at 28 Euro is over the top when all you want is Coffee, Cornflakes and a Ham Roll to start the day.Not everyone wants an American style spread.

We had a lovely stay at the Metropole. If we weren't in Venice we would have never had to leave the hotel! The staff was professional, knowledgeable and kind. The location was perfect and the bar and garden eating areas were very charming! Our room was a little on the small side but we weren't there much. It was a great value!

A lovely place to stay in Venice

  • Sep 3, 2010
This hotel is in a great location near St Marks Square and the waterfront and close to several water bus stops. Splash out on a lagoon-view room and watch the cruise ships sail by. The rooms are tastefully decorated, the staff are friendly and meals can be taken on the pleasant outdoor terrace. We will definitely book this hotel again when we next visit Venice.

Perfect location

Excellent location right on the Grand Canal. We only had breakfast, but the choice from the buffet was excellent. As with most old hotels in Italy, the room was cramped, though well presented, but the shower was tiny. Overall, though, we would recommend the hotel for a city break but it is expensive.

Lap of Luxury

  • Jun 10, 2010
A luxurious, brilliantly sited sited hotel, right on the Grand Canal. The bed was perfect. The linens soft. The bathroom was a marvel in orangish-pinkish marble. Wide-screen television with excellent reception. Reasonably priced internet. Room soundproofing was first-rate. Our room was upgraded on check-in, and we got a spacious sixth floor expanse which included a sundeck the size of many rooms I've stayed in over the years. Our room was not directly over the Grand Canal, but our sundeck's view was marvelous, nonetheless. Looking one way, we could see the Grand Canal and the Island of Giudecca. Looking the other way were the rooftops, cupolas and spires of Venice. A few nits: Though the public rooms are as opulent and palatial as any in Venice, our actual room was done up in a largely bland business hotel style. The only Venetian touches were a passel of Murano wall sconces, a Venetian mirror and a Gothic style headboard for the bed. The hotel is apparently used by upscale tour groups so the hotel's forecourt & lobby can be bus station chaotic. This also caused the front desk to be a bit "get 'em in, get 'em out" brusque. The price of breakfast (not included) was, to put it gently, a mite enthusiastic. All told, though, the place is aces. A slam-dunk recommendation.

B+ for the Danieli

  • 5 star traveller
  • Jul 28, 2012
The Danieli is a beautiful place but the lobby - spectacular as it is - is a little tired. Time to redecorate! Our room was in the recently renovated annex which was excellent, but the service was not up to par for a 5 star property. The concierges were a little lazy and more intent on finishing their personal conversations than assisting guests queuing up at their desk. The rooftop restaurant is fantastic with the best view in Venice. Location is convenient but guests walk out of the deluxe calm of the lobby onto a mob of people, water taxis, vaporetto ticket booths and street vendors which isn't my idea of a 5 star experience. Next time I am going to try the Bauer Il Palazzo.

Awesome location

The location is perfect. The water bus drops you off right near the hotel. We were only in Venice for a full day and the staff was nice to organize our entire tour for us. They even provided a boat ride to Murano for us to tour the Glass Museum for free. It was an amazing trip to Venice for our first time.

great location, very pricey, but what isn't in Venice. Great spot on the roof top for breakfast - which was an unexpected treat. Large, comfortable rooms. Only downside was a very uncomfortable bed - watch your back!

AMAZING HOTEL

  • HighHeelsHighHopes
  • Oct 24, 2012
This hotel is wonderful. The rooms are beautiful, comfortable and not over decorated. The rest of the hotel property is absolutely beautiful. The gardens are stunning. The staff was amazing and met our every need. I honestly felt like royalty. I was so sad to leave. We didn't use the spa but if it was like everything else I'm sure it's wonderful. The location is perfect as it is not right in the heart of things so after a long day of wondering the streets of Venice with tons of people you can relax in seclusion. They have a private water shuttle which runs back and forth from the hotel to the main island approx every fifteen minutes so it's very easy to get around. Will definitely stay here again.

Did not know anything about Venice or the bauer palladio hotel. The hotel was beautiful and smelled of lavender. The staff was great and the room wonderful. Definitely a five star hotel. The restaurant was good and reasonable this included a buffet breakfast that was excellent and well needed for a full day in Venice. Did not know if I would like the hotel shuttle to the island but i really enjoyed the ride back, away from the crowds in Venice.. Shuttle was on time every half hour. Perfect romantic stay. Highly recommend.

  • Aug 3, 2012
Hotel was unique and old. The only complaint we had was that the room was too warm. No matter what we did to try to get the air conditioner to work better, it was just not sufficient to do the job properly. The elevator was very small and antiquated. Location the best, room spotless and staff very professional and helpful.

City Break

This hotel is perfectly placed in the centre of whats going "on" in the city of Venice. You could not ask for a very reasonable priced hotel to be better positioned than a five minute walk from St Marks Sq. The staff were very helpful and quickly put right a couple of small issues with the room when we arrived. The only down side to our room was the condition of the bath, it really was showing its age to the point that we choose not to use it. That aside I would use the hotel again because of the friendly staff and its location.

  • Nov 23, 2011
We have stayed at this hotel before, so we knew what we could expect. The Papadopoli hotel has very comfortable beds. The deluxe rooms were nicely furnished, and have good bathrooms. The hotel dining room serves a good breakfast (25 Euros), and the bar is a great place to relax after a big day of sightseeing. The Papadopoli is on a small canal, and is next to the Papadopoli Gardens. It is also close to Piazzale Roma where there is a taxi stand on the Papadopoli Gardens side. A regular taxi from Piazzale Roma took us across the causeway, and right to the new airport terminal entrance. The water taxi, and vaporetto docks are a long, long walk from the airport terminal. We took a water taxi to the hotel, and although it is a romantic way to reach the hotel, the regular cab from Piazzale Roma was easier on the feet.

3 day weekend -Oct2012

  • Sweet Venice
  • Oct 30, 2012
Positives: Lovely staff from concierge to porter, kitchen staff etc. Breakfast area large (has 3 rooms) and food was above average. Location is FAB! right opposite the train station - very easy to find. For those heading towards St Marks square area its a good 40mins walk navigating through narrow alleyways else take the waterbus (route 1) for 7 euros - takes roughly same time as it covers around 10 stops with scenery worthy of kodak moments - Rialto bridge, fish market, basilicas. For the Londoners out there, if you try their pizzas you'll never wanna have Pizzahut again. Negatives: The actual rooms were noticeably smaller than on website. Although has character can't stop but remind myself the tiny space. Having said that its only for sleeping so not a big worry.

Our room happened to be the largest room - I don't know how we lucked out - and it overlooked a short street that ended at the Grand Canal, so we had a wonderful view. The staff was very helpful. I wish we could have stayed longer. If you have trouble finding it, as we did, ask for the Hard Rock Cafe. It's around the corner from there and just around the corner from Piazza San Marco.
